One thing Philly is good for is small hipster eateries and Mighty Bread is one of those. We came here with a group of friends and had just planned to grab a loaf for dinner later that night but we ended up staying for some menu items. The place is nice and open, everyone is friendly and has an opinion on what you should get. I ended up getting the Spicy braised pork sandwich, it was topped off with chili honey, pickled cabbage and avocado as well. Tasty sandwhich so I would say their other sandwiches are just as good. Amazing service and amazing food! I love the chill and cozy vibes their restaurant gives. They have an assortment of dry goods and cool gifts you can buy as well. Their sandwiches are the best! And rye chocolate chip cookies are top tier for me. My husband and I just had their kale salad and although it contains dried cherries (he dislikes cherries), he thought it tasted great with the kale. The salad is plentiful, too. Mighty Bread is aptly named - tucked away on a tiny residential street, the bakery makes the most of its tight quarters, with shelves piled high with freshly baked loaves, tins of fish and jars of jam, bread proofing baskets, and little bakery-themed plushies. And all of the baked goods, from the loaves of bread, to the doughnuts, to the croissants, are mighty delicious! Our favorite thing to order is the seasonal focaccia with stracciatella cheese (basically super soft burrata). In the summer, the focaccia is studded with sweet cherry tomatoes, and in the winter, it is topped with crisp-edged, thin slices of potato and sprigs of rosemary. (The first bite of the potato focaccia was literally one of the best things we ate this year.) We also like the scrambo platter, though I will say that at a bakery as good as Mighty Bread, I personally prefer to order things that feature more bread. Service is always super friendly, and though the line is almost always out the door on the weekends, it moves fast. We always opt to dine in - and somehow we always find seating. Bread - superb; best in Philadelphia. Sandwiches - scrumptious. Service - outgoing and pleasant. Environment - casually comfortable. What more can you ask? The only challenges are that they're victims of their own success, and it can be crowded (esp on weekends) and they sometimes run out of the bread that I want. But I certainly can't fault them for that. It's gotten to the point that when I offer to take my wife and son out for lunch, they always want to go here, and I have to remind them that there ARE other places in Philly. We walked two miles from downtown Philly just to try Mighty Bread, it came highly recommended by friends and when we found out it was nominated for a James Beard award we knew we had to try it. It was well worth the walk! When we arrived shortly after opening there was a line already beginning to wrap around the dining room. The line moved fairly quickly and when it was our turn to order I decided on a chocolate croissant and chai latte and my partner got a fruit danish and a latte. The pastries were AMAZING, the drinks were good too but the highlight of our visit was definitely the pastries. My croissant was so perfectly flakey and the fruit danish was not only so beautiful but so tasty as well. I went there Sunday noonish. The place was packed. The atmosphere of the pace was nice. There was also a line to order the food. While I was waiting in line , I tried to see around on what should I ordered. All I know while I was waiting , there was lady announced "3 biscuits left !" Not too long "2 biscuit left!". That exact time , I was already in front of the cashier. She asked what do I want to order. I said "the biscuit" . So I ordered that and iced matcha latte to go. I gave 4 stars because the matcha latte taste horrible. It tasted like water. It wasn't good at all. The biscuit was good, not great. Service was awesome . I'd been meaning to get to Mighty Bread since forever, and I finally went today to get a sourdough loaf to make stuffing for Thanksgiving. They had a $5, 500 gram, pre-cubed bag of day old bread for stuffing, genius and perfect!!! I also got a coffee (which was not great but whatever they're not a coffee shop) and an Italian hoagie. I am a life long Philadelphian and I think this is the best Italian hoagie I've ever had. Generous amount of meat and cheese, perfectly pickly and spicy condiments, sesame ciabatta was to die for. This place is worth the wait! We originally came on Saturday, but the line was so long that it roped around the entire establishment that we left. We came back the following day to a more manageable line and are so happy to have returned. I wasn't sure what to expect since it's a bread company, but my favorite thing that I tried was the seasonal quiche. Take my word, it is THE BEST quiche I have had in a very long time. The crust is flaky and crispy and the side salad was a perfect contrast of light freshness. We also tried the cheese and apple sandwich which was extremely tasty. The baguette tasted fresh and crunchy. Lastly, I felt like we should try a pastry since it was a bread company and tried a croissant. Definitely don't recommend the croissant. It was so dry and tasted over cooked. There were many other breakfast items I wished I had tried, so hold off on the croissant and try another savory item off the menu. I headed to Mighty Bread on a Saturday morning to treat myself to coffee and a pastry and was not disappointed. The line was long (which is usually a good sign!) but moved pretty quickly. To eat, I got a doughnut filled with pistachio cream and covered with chocolate. I also got an iced lavender cardamom honey latte - I was expecting it to be fairly sweet but was so glad it wasn't (since I had the sweet doughnut to complement it). The only place that I get my sourdough from. PERIOD. I live in North Philly and I will ALWAYS travel down if I am out of bread. Recommend to come in a bit earlier. I usually come in around 2PM, and my favorite loaf will either be sold out or I snapped the last one. Rosemary and peppercorn ( I did snap the last one today) is my fav. Aromatics from the rosemary and the spiciness from the peppercorn was nicely done. Perfect for soup or simply with scrambled eggs. Country and toasted sesame are my go to as well. We happened to stumble upon Mighty Bread Company when exploring breakfast / lunch options near Passyunk, and we are so glad we did! The spot is completely hidden on an unassuming side street near Passyunk, so if you didn't know it existed, you probably never would. Even before getting in, the ambience is lovely - lots of trees and a cute outdoor space for customers that fits right into the neighborhood vibe. We made our way here late in the morning / early afternoon on a Saturday, and we were pleased that there was really no line once we got indoors. The indoor vibe is a bit more industrial than the outskirts, but we loved the simplicity and casualness of the spot. While waiting to place an order, we checked out their store offerings (some apparel, some cooking / baking goodies, etc.) and their variety of breads. We had plans right after brunch, so we unfortunately did not cash in on a loaf of any of their breads, but definitely will be back to try some! We focused on their menu items for our meal; while the menu was small, there were a variety of options from loaded toasts to more substantial toasts. I opted for a ricotta toast with peaches and honey - it was incredibly seasonal, the ricotta was fresh, and the bread was a great balance of toasty, chewy, dense, and light. I enjoyed it! My only complaint was that for the price, I was expecting a bit more (a second piece of toast with toppings? a thicker slice?), since I was sad when it was over. My husband went for the prosciutto sandwich on ciabatta, which he loved - having a few bites, I think he made the better menu choice than I did! We washed it down with a few coffees, which were standard but good. I would definitely make it back to Mighty Bread to try both a loaf of bread and a sandwich instead of a toast to get a more well-rounded experience - oh, and a pastry! The sourdough here is absolutely amazing, one of the best breads I've had. The outside is perfectly crisp and crunchy without being too hard, and the inside is incredibly tender and chewy. Honestly perfect for any way you decide to use it. They also have a lot of different toasts, sandwiches, pastries, among various specials throughout the year that I haven't yet had the chance to try.
