Extremely disappointed. I brought my horn here for an adjustment, but the quality of work was unacceptable. A couple of the needles have already come loose, and there are now two new dents, one of them very noticeable. I was aware of those when I was already around 200 miles away. I brought my granddaughters Gemeinhardt flute in for service because she was using it for marching band in 100° weather. But she had a concert coming up later in the week, so Mike was able to get it fixed in time for that. It became clear she needed a marching band flute. Mike suggested a used one at a great price. Turns out also the Gemeinhardt was being borrowed from her cousin. So I asked Mike for his recommendation for a concert flute. While my granddaughter is a freshman, she is lead flutist for the high school. Mike said he sold Di Zhao. We did a lot of comparison shopping and testing, but ultimately it was up to my granddaughter, as Mike said, because she knows what she likes in playing and the sound. Most schools recommend Yamaha. My granddaughter decided on the Di Zhao. She got an 801 BEF for a great price. Most importantly I could tell Mike liked musical kids! I watched him interact as they brought their instruments in for repair. I cannot thank him enough for the time, knowledge and courtesy in taking care of three problems for my granddaughter. I received it earlier today and all was good except the slide was sticky and not functioning well. Not so good. Took it into Mike's shop and returned home. About 30 minutes later, he called me and told me it was bowed and that he could fix it for a very reasonable price and that it would be ready in an hour! Wow. Help! The crown of my flute head exploded off the end during a practice session. What the heck? In all my years of playing that had never happened. My fear was something got damaged in the flute head. What to do? Turn to Yelp and I found the answer. The store opened at 9:00. I was there at 9:10-that's how urgent the situation was to me. I had to practice, practice before my lesson. Mike took a few minutes to look at my flute and asked a few questions. He described what he was going to do and then what he may have to do if some of my other issues continued. Mike asked when I wanted my flute. I'm like, "ummmm...as soon as possible, please?" Well what do you know? I had my flute in top notch condition in a couple of hours. I AM TOTALLY IMPRESSED! That's amazing. Mike fixed bent keys, oiled keys, replaced a few cork on keys and made other adjustments. My flute sounds amazing and I'm confident that in the future if I have issues I have my go to instrument place at hand. One of the perks is that the shop is only a mile from my house. My horn has been sitting in the closet collecting dust for 10+ years and Mike and his staff revitalized it with a full-service cleaning. I highly recommend Mike Nye Instrument Repair. I received a recommendation to visit Mike Nye Instrument Repair from Dr. John Ericson, a professor of French horn at Arizona State University. Dr. Ericson suggested Mike Nye for the "ultrasonic cleaning" that Mike offers. My experience with Mike Nye and his associates was excellent! The staff is friendly, honest, polite and professional. I liked the pair of women who work there at the front desk and to support Mike in his servicing the instruments. There is a really nice "team" vibe. Communication with Mike and his staff from start to finish was a pleasure. I sense that they service most of the school band instruments in the area as well as service the instruments of many professional musicians (including the brass players of the Phoenix Symphony). Rest assured your baby is in good hands with Mike Nye and his team. A special note: I do not currently own a car so getting over to drop off and pick up my instrument on different days would have required another car rental ($$$). Over email, Mike was kind enough to say that it would be alright to leave my horn with him for a month before my next car rental. I work for an organization called Homeless Youth Connection and have a student who just started her first year at GCU as a Music Teaching major! I've been taking my alto saxophone to Mike Nye for repairs whenever it needed some tweaks. It needed some again and a few weeks ago I noticed Mike moved his repair business out of his house and into a storefront on the SE corner of Rural & Guadalupe. I dropped my horn off in the morning, he looked it over and gave me an estimate and told me it would be done later in the day. Not even a few hours later, it was done. Now, I credit this to timing on my part (no big rush orders) and Mike's love of saxophones. That said - all instruments are welcome. No COVID procedures being taken here! No mask required to enter and Mike isn't wearing one or using hand sanitizer between handling instruments. Cost is high for what was done. Took my alto sax in and Mike changed 11 pads, cost was $125. Had to bring it back in for a second time to fix a floppy front "F" key. I asked why this wasn't looked at the first and he asked how I was going to use it, wow! Figured that would have been looked at for $125 I was charged. Felt he was a bit of a jerk in his response to my floppy "F" key. When I went back to pick up the sax there were two other customers in the shop and he was handling all their instruments and never used hand sanitizer in between. I gave a one star because of the fast turnaround and the advice he did give me at the end of my 2nd visit. Unfortunately, I won't recommend this place or return here. I'll go back to Agave Music, even though it's far from where I live. read more

I was looking for a good and reasonably priced repair shop for my saxophones and flutes on the net, and I found Mike Nye's. When I called Mike, he sounded fair and knowledgable, so I took in my alto sax, to fix a couple of leaks and replace a couple of corks. He was done with the work the same day, and the charges were very reasonable, the repair work excellent, and I found Mike a wealth of information about musical instrument repair, and instrument quality. Since my initial repair order, I have purchased a slightly used pro alto and a new pro tenor sax from Mike. I am extremely happy with both instruments, and I saved allot of money on the purchases, compared to other Phoenix area retail outlets. Mike sold my old alto and my old tenor, through his consignment sales process. Both horns sold quickly, and for a fair price. I feel I have a reliable repair shop for my horns, now, and also a great place to buy new and used instruments. The staff at Mike Nye's are very friendly and helpful, as well. read more
