Mike is a grumpy pos. Took my truck in with popped core plug and video of exactly where it was. he looked at the video for 2 seconds and told me it would be a pain in the ass and he wouldn't touch it. i asked to help me diagnose a different issue and he just told me to get a new truck and turned his back to me and started playing with shit on his desk. cant even give me the time of day to bring him some business. judging by the other reviews i guess i'm the lucky one. if he had decided to take a look at it he would have likely done nothing to fix the problem and created 2 or 3 more all while charging me hundreds. HEY MIKE! i fixed my freeze plug and 2 more in a matter of 15 minutes. cost me 10 bucks. truck still running strong. youre better off going to your dealership and getting overcharged, at least they'll look at it and fix the problem. can't believe this place was so highly recommended. read more

Mike is amazing. He always finds the problem fast, fixes it quickly, and is super reasonably priced...and sometimes does it for free! I could not recommend any business more highly!!! I brought my car into Mike's for problems with my car. Mike told us it was the alternator that needed replacing which he did. A couple days later, my car breaks down. Took it to my car's dealership and found out Mike put a defective alternator into my car (most likely in hopes that we'd bring it back to him). He said it was a simple fix - and so he didn't charge me for it - even though I offered twice to pay him. It was pretty refreshing to have a business just want to help me solve my problem. My son brought his car here for repairs and a complete check up, he did over 2k worth of work and my son ended up taking it to a different mechanic for a second opinion and the second mechanic took photos and showed the work was not done, mikes said they would not give any refunds whatsoever, we have photos and proof of the work not done, DO NOT GO HERE!!! My elderly mother was driving up north when her "check engine" light came on. She was near Stillwater and was advised to visit Mike's. Mike ran a diagnostic and found the issue to not be critical and said the issue could be resolved at a later date and sent her on her way. If he's taking great care of those just passing through, I can't imagine how great he takes care of the locals. I don't know how this place has any good reviews. Taking my car here was an absolute nightmare, "Mike" was rude from the get go, like me going to his business was an annoyance and inconvenience for him. Then he proceeded to give me the wrong starter for my car - I bought a refurbished one with a warranty and it didn't work when he installed it, so he gave me my old one back and I couldn't return it to get my money back to buy another one and he refused to take out the one he installed (that didn't work) insisting that he would have to charge me double ...He wanted $400 for a part that cost $160 at MOST and then wanted to double charge me. It's a 20 year old car and I'm a single mom on food stamps ...without having the money to pay him or have it towed he then went ahead, without telling me, and had it towed off. STAY AWAY! Mike's will charge you money to break your car. I'm not exaggerating. This is exactly what they did to me. Here's the story. I took my car to Mike's for a busted AC. Mike's replaced the AC motor, but the AC barely blows at all; it's not fixed by any stretch of the imagination. So right off the bat, I know my car's still nearly undriveable in this late summer heat, I'm out $300 for AC repairs, and I'll still have to pay more to somebody else to actually fix the problem. This is pretty terrible. But wait. It gets MUCH worse. Mike's also killed my battery. The battery never had a problem before; the car started the first time, every time. But Mike's managed to drain the battery completely, and it just never recovered. The whole ensuing interaction was shady. When my car wouldn't start in the shop parking lot, an extremely grumpy technician hemmed and hawed for a couple minutes before reluctantly jumping it for me. He couldn't (wouldn't?) explain what had happened to drain the battery in the first place; he blamed the failure on the brand of battery, he dismissed my suggestion that he investigate the problem further, and he couldn't have made it more clear how annoyed he was to have to help me at all. The battery took a jump once, limped home, and then died completely. (I like to think it tried its best. RIP, little battery. You deserved better.) Now, to be clear: that's hundreds of dollars spent on repairs at Mike's, and my car is now MORE BROKEN THAN IT WAS WHEN I STARTED. Now I have to buy a new battery AND still pay another shop to do the job Mike's charged me hundreds for and failed to complete. I'll be honest - when I realized my battery was completely shot, and I really understood for the first time how badly Mike's had screwed me over, I broke down and sobbed right there in my parking lot. This is just so screwed up. Mike's shouldn't be able to treat people like this! They shouldn't be allowed to take hundreds of dollars from me to break my car. Maybe that's not a lot of money for other people, but for me, it was everything. I feel so helpless. There is nothing I can do about any of this... except try to warn you guys. So maybe you won't get conned like I did. So that, maybe, some kind of good comes out of this horrible experience. Nobody should have to pay to have their stuff ruined and broken. It's just not okay. Be safe out there guys, and for god's sake, STAY AWAY FROM MIKE'S. read more

Here's my experience at Mike's... (always been good so far) I needed the oil changed and everything checked out on a 18 year old car. After doing the oil change, got a call that I needed a ball joint replaced. He tells me how much that will cost and I got to say yay or nay. He said it would be $150. When I looked this up, I saw some places charge up to $500 for this repair. The part could have been $30-$80 and with labor and the oil change and diagnostic tests of everything else, this is a good deal. I brought cash to pay and they round the bill down if you do that. They are very helpful and professional. Sometimes it takes them a little longer than it might at other places. They are cheaper than dealership mechanics and I think they have more experience than people at places like jiffy lube or a tire store. read more

Mikes is my auto repair shop of choice in Stillwater. Out of town parents can rest easy. No rip offs here. These are easygoing folks who build and race stock cars locally. Labor rate is average, but they bill actual time vs. the computer estimated time, which is a savings for the customers. Get the higher quality parts, I suggest. I would have to give this shop a mixed review. My son broke down while at college and I know absolutely nobody in Stillwater, instead, I followed the comments on yelp. They did fine with what he said was wrong but did not diagnose the problem correctly to begin with. So when he broke down the next day, same problem same description of the problem - - - the shop did not step up and do the right thing. . I had taken my car to Mike's for a second opinion. Glad I did! I had noticed a leak under my car which appeared to be water to me. I took it in to the local dealership and they told me I had an oil leak with an estimate of approx. $1300. After Mike's checked out my car, they asked if anyone had said anything about the water pump....they could hear it when the started it. Very obvious. There wasn't an oil leak but it was my water pump was bad. I was going out of town for the weekend and he was able to expedite my repair and get me going. I really appreciated this company's customer service, expertise and professionalism. I recommend you go here first and let them take care of your automotive needs. A great mechanic. Ended up having my 12 year old VW towed here after spending 2 days at another place in town that wasn't able to even diagnosis the problem (granted they said their testing computer was broken). Called them late in the afternoon and they were able to check it out the next morning. Had a diagnosis by midmorninng and it was fixed before 1pm the same day! And the price was very reasonable. It's an old school shop with engine parts laying around and a bunch of older cars being worked on. From what I could tell there was no waiting area so you'll definitely need a ride home from a friend while you wait. read more

I have been using Mike for car repair for almost 19 years -- since he was literally working out of his home garage. My first experience was an air conditioner compressor. After crazy high quotes from a couple others, a friend recommended Mike. He is ASE certified and actually was a mechanic for a major dealer. He realized that he could charge less than the dealer and make more for himself so he went out on his own. Given that story, I tried him out. Quote for Air conditioner was about 60% of the next higher, so we went ahead. No problems. A friend heard that we had gotten our AC fixed and theirs was out. They were sitting on three quotes above what they could afford. We sent them to Mike. A belt had come off that every one of the other mechanics would have seen. He fixed at no charge in a few minutes and didn't charge them a dime. You can guess where they now get cars repaired. His prices are a little higher now, but still reasonable and lower than others. The thing with Mike is he's honest and only tell you what your car needs. One forth of the time he tells me I don't need anything, it's not worth fixing, or that he spent so little time on it there's no charge.
