When I initially started using them several years ago when Lonnie Daugherty still owned the business, the prices, parts and services were what I expected. Since Lonnie Daugherty has sold the business, my last experience was overpriced and they are using cheaper parts. They had the car for a week. When I drove the car out onto Perkins Road not more than a block or two there was an uneven place on the road not a chug hole I heard a knocking noise in the left front. I heard the noise again on 6th Street. I called Stw Auto and told them what happened and I was coming back. Mind you they had worked on the front and back end of the vehicle. I asked them when I arrived if they had done a test drive after working on the vehicle and I was told no that they can tell what is wrong with a vehicle by having it on the lift. Well, evidently they can't! I paid them $3,200 plus dollars and will not use them again. I no longer trust them. When I asked to speak to the new owner Tylar Callaham, former shop foreman, they told me I couldn't speak to him because he was busy doing things that an owner does. Oh my word! Not what I wanted to hear and very poor response and customer service. Everytime I used them, everything kept going up in price. The vehicle is old but their reasoning for different issues was poor. Be Careful about dealing with these people and never get a battery changed by them. I have on 06 solstice that requires half an hour to change the battery which was done at Howertons for $50. Stillwater Automotive charged me $187 in labor which equates to three hours to change a battery. Prior to confirming with me that I wanted an assessment done to determine the battery or the starter they went ahead and did so and charged me an additional $70 making my total for a 2 year battery $486. They are not honest people and you should think twice before ever doing business with them. They are the definition of a crook auto shop that looks to excessively charge you without remorse. Whenever they told me the starter needed replaced I asked for a quote and it was $200 more than Extramile autocare who offers the same warranty and has employees you can actually trust. Basically if you want to be charged hundreds of dollars more than necessary under the claim of accredited acclimation then go with Stillwater automotive. We brought my daughters car in to see why it over heated. Charged me $75 to tell me it was on o-ring. They quoted us $1000 to replace said o-ring because it would take their mechanics 5 hours. Really!?? My husband watched a video and replaced it in less than 2 hours and he isn't even a "mechanic". after I paid them the $75 I asked where the car was and they pointed in the direction behind the building. I had to go look for it and take all their trash out. they wouldn't even drive it to the front. would not recommend them read more

I took my vehicle here to have the air conditioner inspected. After I got it back, the air conditioner was worse than when I took it to them. The technician was "pretty sure" it needed a certain part. After another $153 for that, it still doesn't work. I don't have any more money for them to guess at what part my car needs. They also found a coolant leak and quoted $400 for a hose that I could get directly from the Chevy dealer for about $95. read more

BEWARE!!! RIDICULOUSLY OVER PRICED!!!!!!! Check other mechanic shops before you take your vehicle here. They charge twice as much as other places. To replace the front right upper and lower ball joint it was 256.73 for parts 580.25 for labor final total was 836.98 not including taxes....I called another company and asked what they charge to do my front left upper and lower ball joints, parts and labor 350 to 400. I live and work around Stillwater, this company is ripping people off. Its my fault I should have shopped around before just going with my first call. read more

This place is always busy, it is a good idea to call beforehand and many times you will have to wait a few days before you can get in. I had them do some pretty significant repair work on my car, and it took a while but I can see why they are so busy, they do quality work and have a staff of experienced mechanics who know their way around a wide variety of vehicles. Major car repairs are never cheap, but I'd say it was around half of what I would have paid at a dealership, and maybe a little less than that. I would especially recommend them to drivers of older cars who want to maintain and keep them running long-term. They are really good with customers and are good at explaining things and letting people know what the options are. I never felt pushed or pressured into agreeing to anything. I am still pretty new to Stillwater and am glad to have found a great place to take my car. Just wish they were open on Saturday, but I guess when you have a steady stream of customers you can afford to only work 5 days a week. read more

Wonderful service. I love the service report. It contains video or photos of what is wrong, recommendations for routine service, and reports on other items that should be addressed (such as a belt showing wear or a dash light that needs diagnostics). There is no pressure to get everything fixed immediately, but the information is there and costs are available so that you can plan. The staff is extremely helpful and kind. They even offer transportation from the shop to work/home when dropping off your car and offer to provide pick-up service when the car is ready as well. Absolute crooks. I went in to have my transmission flushed. They didn't flush my transmission they told me it had to be rebuilt and also that my ball joints were bad. They said "your ball joints are so bad I wouldn't drive the truck off the lot, it's unsafe." They tried to screw the wrong person considering I am mechanically inclines enough to do everything they do I just figured I'd save myself some time on flushing the tranny and have them do it. Also, I had just replaced the ball joints on the truck 3 weeks prior! So for all those people so happy with their service you should get a real mechanics second opinion before allowing Stillwater automotive to touch your vehicle read more

Went in there to get my AC Fixed. He did a good job but 2 months later it's out again. I call to see if he will fix it, cause I paid $230+. Oh he will fix it but for more money. $100 to run a test and then another $100+ to fill it back up. Not including fixing where it was leaking at. SO IT WOULDA BEEN AROUND $500 TO FIX A F-IN AC???? I found Stillwater Automotive on the "Click and Clack" website several years ago. I was visiting friends, and my car needed an oil change. They were able to do it the same day. Last summer the radiator on my car sprang a leak while I was here. They had to get the part, but the replacement was done in a timely fashion once they had it. They even replaced the thermostat without having to be asked to do do. This year all I needed was an oil change. Again, I was able to get it done the same day. They routinely check the other fluid levels, hoses, belts, tire pressure, etc. In other words, they care about your car and your safety. If I lived full time in Stillwater, this would be the only garage that I would use. The people are friendly and extremely competent. The shop and professional mechanics are clean (something which is not always true) and professional in their manner. All of the work which I have had done has been excellent. The garage is a family business, and they make you feel welcome and a part of the family. I can highly recommend them whether you are a permanent resident or someone who is only passing through. read more

They may be great for oil changes and small issues, but I can't rate them very high. They incorrectly diagnosed what was wrong when we had our daughters car towed to them. (College student away from home, to the Dads out there). This trip was almost $500 for what ended up being a new battery and fuel induction cleaning. After calling to say the car was ready, my daughter picked it up and stalled out again on the way home from their shop! I told her to take it back to them immediately. Now I'm starting to question if the work performed thus far was indeed the root cause, or at the very least, even necessary? After "researching" a considerable amount of time, they stated that the CVT transmission was probably the issue. They suggested a partial (CVT tranny fluid very expensive) transmission fluid exchange might fix the problem, (the other option would be a new tranny). However, they'd be unable to reset the Transmissions degeneration code within the Nissans computer, should I elect to let their shop perform the "partial" fluid exchange. Instead, I decided checking with a dealership and found out a dealership auto repair shop was actually cheaper for a full transmission fluid exchange. After taking it to the Nissan dealership, I paid a small fee($49) to plug it into their diagnostic computer. Guess what?.... Nissan diagnosed in minutes and identified a bad CVT transmission. NOT what Stillwater Automotive's mechanic guessed was the problem on our first visit to their shop. Needless to say, at $3800 bucks for a new CVT tranny, this 2008 model car is not worth the expense to repair, nor did I even need to consider a transmission fluid exchange at all under these circumstances (Bad Tranny), agreed the Nissan dealership service department. Understand, that had this diagnosis (bad tranny) been identified on the initial visit to this shop, I certainly wouldn't have spent near $500 on a new battery and fuel induction cleaning. I mean really, who puts a new battery and cleans the fuel system in a car with a bad transmission? Make sense? We asked Stillwater Automotive about discounting the labor cost since it was still not fixed, but they didn't budge, because they spent soooo much time trying to diagnose the issue. I towed my ford escort in here when it died and wouldn't restart. They called me the next day and said that it had no spark and needed a new ignition modulel. They told me it was going to cost 250-300 dollars to repair. I could not afford it right then so they made me pay $40 for a diagnostic fee. I tried to replace the module myself only to find out it was not bad in the first place. So after a week of tinkering I took it somewhere else to get a second opinion; and it turned out to be the battery terminals that were bad. I replaced them for $8 each with no diagnostic fee. Only one experience with Stillwater Automotive so far, but I would return. Had a high mileage Nissan serviced for routine maintenance. There was a bit of a price-tag, but it was fair considering some of the required maintenance was to out of the way parts. The service here was prompt and courteous. I felt very informed when Lonnie called me to give me recommendations, and, most impressive of all, he gave me options for repairs in the order of seriousness/importance. This is always a sign of a good mechanic in my mind. The folks at Stillwater Automotive even noticed a broken engine bracket that had escaped the notice of several servicemen before them and could have given me bigger problems down the road. Most importantly of all, my car is running much, much better after only about 24 hours and a reasonable monetary investment from me. Good work! read more

We discovered Stillwater Automotive through another person's recommendation. After the initial repair, we won't take our cars anyplace else. First off, the work is top notch. We have never had to take a car back to get "re-fixed". Our cars have been fixed right, the first time and that is my main concern. After that, the staff are very friendly and the times when I have waited on an oil change have been fun due to the conversations. Great place to go. Wish there could be negative stars!! Just was waiting for this 4 year ordeal to be over before I commented. July 2011, my corvette engine was blown by one of this "mechanics" helpers. It was taken in for a minor repair. Long story short, after 6 months and he thought it was fixed I got the car back. My next year I spent taking the car in several times to a mechanic that confirmed there were missing pieces that Lonnie and his crew did not put back on (one of which could have cause a fire while driving the car). This establishment never took any responsibilty for a car whose engine was fine when dropped off in the morning and having to be towed from a dirt road near Perkins OK to his shop by afternoon. (never received a call by the way, I called to see if it was ready to be picked up). For the last year and a half the car has been in a shop getting another replacement engine. Sold the car today.......much grief and heartache and senselessness... if only taken to a knowledgeable and responsible mechanic from the start. read more
