This was the last dealership that I visited in response to a Facebook ad on a car. When I went to check it out, they ran my credit and told me that I was approved for the sale with my down payment. I went to another dealership to inquire about the offer they had given me prior to this one, because they had ALSO already ran my credit and approved me with better terms than this dealer, because this one "didn't believe" that they had already done so, even when shown the offer physically. I come back a couple days later after mulling it over, and they have me sign all the paperwork after I recapped the terms again, and then we go over to Finance - again, after all the paperwork was already signed and I was already told that I was approved. I wait around for another hour and a half while they "finalize" everything, and I get alerted that they're running my credit yet again, incurring more hits. After spending a total of about 4 hours there, after signing paperwork, agreeing to pricing, and the car comes out of detail, I get told that I now need a co-signer, or a huge down payment. Waste of time, and affected my credit. If it was possible to leave 0 stars, I would. The kicker - I get an email from "Cory Brewer" who thanks me for my purchase. ....what purchase? I called back (twice) to figure out whether or not I have the car, just to not have an answer either time. Probably the worst possible buying experience you can ever have. If you value your time, money and credit, go literally anywhere else. If I could've walked away and had them reverse the sale, I would've, but since paperwork had been signed I couldn't, BUT I can prevent you or anyone else from the headache we experienced at Mike Shaw Toyota. I would not recommend buying a car here, not even to my worst enemy. Not after the sales lady said "I have never dealt with such rude customers." I have the voicemail to prove it too. My husband had found a car here and been in contact with one of the sales ladies. We told her we'd be coming Tuesday (mind you we were driving down from Houston). She said that was her day off, but she'd come to help us around 10 and then be on her way. She also said she'd expedite everything by having the paperwork all ready, so we'd be able to sign and go. Well, she didn't come in and I don't blame her, it's her day off. We got assigned to another sales lady. We arrived a little after 10 which I had already told the other sales lady we'd be a few minutes late. We ended up being attended to by Christina. She showed us the car, took us on a test drive, and then we got to the paperwork. She sat down and then realized it wasn't the right paperwork, so she went back to get the paperwork with the VIN number on it. Once she did that, we got to signing. The next hiccup was financing. We had done the online application, but we were told we'd have to do the paper application too. We did that, no problem. After being there for close to two hours, the financing lady, Davis, finally called us back. We told we'd been told this would be expedited, but so far it hadn't been. She told us she was the only one working in the finance department that day "and like at the doctor's, there's a process." Ok cool. Got it, but still, we had been told the online application would speed this up and it didn't. The financing lady ending up not taking off the money we had already put down for the car, I caught her error, so she had to fix it and reprint. She was also talking about having messed up someone's financing paperwork and she had to drive to get them to re-sign. The irony is coming... Once we signed everything there, Christina said she'd take the car to get detailed. We started to wait around and good thing we did. While we initially waited, Davis (the financing lady) came out and she said she messed up the numbers on paperwork (again), so we had to re-sign. It was already after 12:30 and our kids were hungry plus they had already patiently waited over two and a half hours thus far. There was no way I was telling my kids it would be another hour. We told Christina we'd be back. I got a call around 2 saying the car was done. We were heading to the beach which is what my kids had been waiting all morning for, so I asked when they closed, she said 9, so cool, no problem, we will be back later. We arrive right around 6. The receptionist called Christina to bring us the keys. She hands us the keys and we leave. A voicemail pops up on the phone. It's from Christina. I can hear us telling her "thanks" as she hands us the keys, then she walks off and tells some coworkers that she's "never dealt with such rude customers." I'm really not sure what happened to make us rude customers. Maybe because we didn't want to wait another hour for detailing? Or maybe because she asked my husband if he wanted help setting up the Toyota app, but he just said we wanted the keys? Whatever the reason, there's no excuse for HER rude comment. I went to chat with the manager, Abel, and told him this whole story. He explained the online financial application can't be expedited. He did admit that the car should've gone to be detailed while we were signing paperwork. Lastly, he said he'd have a chat with Christina. My husband pointed out to the manager that we didn't haggle the price and we felt like we were an easy sale. Ultimately though, it was not a good experience all around. If I could give this dealership less than one star I would. Stay far away. I called before going into the dealership to get my Camaro appraised to sell it, and upon calling I was transferred to a buyer named Theodore (they called him Ted when we got there). We agreed on a time to meet, and my husband and I arrived there upon the agreed time. We were greeted by Veronica since Ted was in a sale. Crazy how you can agree to meet someone then a sale comes in and you bail on the customer you were supposed to meet with? Strike #1. Strike #2, Veronica stated that she would help us get everything started since Ted was busy with a client. I agreed since I did not want to be at the dealership all day JUST for an appraisal. I AM SO GLAD I went with her on the drive around the block since not only did she get my RPM's over 3000 (we were on a feeder road that only goes up to 45MPH), she didn't know how to not have my car in-between gears making my RPM's go higher everytime she let off the gas pedal right before it was about to shift then pressed on the pedal to go faster, making it look like the car would not shift. MA'AM, it is a 2023 and is mechanically SOUND. YOU just do not know how to drive a high performance vehicle. PERIOD. Strike #3, we pull back into the dealership after she drove it, at that point I'm a little irritated with how she drove my car, and when we get out she SLAMS and I mean SLAMS my car door into a pre-owned vehicle (blue/grey Equinox still with tags on the window that I hope and pray someone was not trying to buy), not only transferring my paint onto the Equinox, putting a dent into it but also now scratched my door. Now, I'm heated and debating on even selling to them. I tell my husband when we get back on how everything went, and decide to tell them we just want to think about things and go over finances and if it is a good decision. We tried to be nice. But when I tell you that they did not want to give me my keys back (its my vehicle not my husbands, his name isn't even on my loan), they visibly looked agitated that we even asked. Strike #4, incomes the manager, forgot his name, but gives the run down on how many Camaros are going to sell, blah blah blah, I know how it works, many family members work in the car industry, I've done my fair share on buying/selling vehicles so I know the ropes. Thing is, my trim on my Camaro, you can't find these often. So I feel like that's why they were so aggressive on keeping me there, not giving me the CHOICE to leave and not letting me hardly speak. My husband got a call from his job (thank GOD) that he had to go in urgently because someone called out. AND THEY WOULDN'T LET ME DRIVE HIM HOME AND COME BACK BECAUSE THEY STATED ITS THEIR CAR NOW. Excuse me, Veronica, I haven't signed ANY papers. NOTHING tying me to a single sale with you. I blatantly stated "That's fishy, I'm driving him home." After more conversation about how she HAD to have one of the insured employees drive THEIR vehicle, I could see my husband getting antsy. I did not back down, I was getting heated. I looked at her, and I feel like she finally got the memo that they weren't getting my sale and finally let us go. Told us on the way out that she was going to text us to confirm in about 20 minutes if we weren't back but we never got a follow up lol. They knew. When I was walking out I told the poor guy who got caught up in the middle (he was the one to drive my husband home) "Yeah I don't trust her, she dinged the shit out of my door and can't drive my car properly. I'm sorry." as I was walking away. I stuttered a bit because I was shaking with anger at that point. STAY AWAY from Mike Shaw Toyota. They don't care about you. They care about that sale. Went to Autonation, who will always have my business, and not only did they give me more on an appraisal, they ACTUALLY cared. Didn't feel trapped, I could talk, there was pleasant conversation and even joked about how Veronica got my cars RPM's so high while only going 40MPH. Veronica, learn how to drive cars properly if you're going to sell them. Theodore, actually attend to your clientele. I go back to finance and then I am told they did not take anything off the price of the car. He proceeds to tell me that despite my good credit that nobody wanted to finance me because I was cosigning for my son who did not live with me. He said my best option was to finance with Toyota Finance. The interest rate was higher than I had researched I could get. It was at end of day we decided to just get the car. Mike Shaw Toyota in Robstown, Texas (used car department) are scammers. Be careful because they are very good at it. I received a written on-line offer to purchase my used high end vehicle from a sales representative in their used car department. When i arrived at the dealership they test drove my vehicle and then made an offer to purchase $7,000 lower than the written on-line offer. Their explanation for the lower offer went something like this: "That offer was computer generated by a third party and not from "Mike Shaw Toyota" so we are not bound by that offer". Of course, I quickly pointed out that the Mike's Shaw sales representative's name was clearly visible on the offer. Even the sales manager got involved to throw in his 2 cents of non-sensical malarkey. Here's the scam: make a relatively high written on-line offer for your vehicle to get you in the door. Then, ignore the written offer and make very low offers to purchase and frankly, totally waste your time. I've read Mike Shaw's Customer Bill of Rights and they should take the time to read it to because their used car department certainly has not. read more

STORYTIME Bought from Mike Shaw Kia March for last year & that was literally the worst experience of my life. Took the L on my downpayment and traded in my brand new Kia Carnival due to manufacturer defects on the interior and no one having an answer or solution for 3-4 months (issues began the within 12 hours of buying a BRAND NEW vehicle, crazy right?) Fast forward to days after my trade in, they didn't want to refund any bit of my warranty which was nearly $4000 and we had this vehicle for a few months. Anyways, got my refund after several arguments. Went to Mike Shaw Toyota considering getting a second car preowned, but right away they wanted to pull my credit without actually showing me a single thing I liked. Ended up leaving, and buying a brand new Hyundai Elantra the next day at Autonation. Day after that I get a call from Cosmo (sales manager) with him going on about how he fully thought they could trade in my 2024 palisade, possibly roll over some equity, and low my monthly payments with purchasing a vehicle from them. I mentioned that my credit was eh, and I had literally just bought a brand new car. He still seemed determined and convinced me enough to at least come in and see what they could do. Met with Angel the following day, pretty knowledgeable salesman, but we also mentioned we were more interested in what our trade in could be, or what we would still owe. He pushed that he should run our credit just so we could get accurate numbers towards a Great Highlander and what payments could be like. We were advised he was going to only run this through Toyota's own financing, not 10+ banks and with this being a late Friday, he wouldn't have anything back until Saturday morning. He said he'd give us a call and we could see where we wanted to go from there. Never did get a call, so I gave Cosmo a call and am told he will call back in 10 min with our info. This was Saturday, and it's now Wednesday. Every call we have made has been ignored. Finally got through to Calvin (I believe he's above Cosmo?) and he asked that we give him a chance to make things right and he will give me a call in the morning. Well guess what? No call. I don't know what's crazier; multiple levels of employees not wanting to take a loss and just admit that weren't able to do what they thought they could, or the fact that the only professional people I've spoken to are literally their receptionists. I definitely do know though that when we do decide to buy new again, probably later in the year or next, I won't be coming here. If you can't communicate basic things like credit reports, appraisals and such, why would anyone depend on you to fix issues after purchasing? read more

UPDATE: Well, I very well knew this would happen. The service manager Mr. Barlow never called me back like he said he would and I had trusted in him to do the right thing but nope, he didn't. I don't know what the deal is. On 5-23-23, I took my car in for an oil change and it's the service manager Mr. Barlow working taking in cars early in the morning. I reminded him about the tire. He just said "oh yeah", but he didn't mention anything about the tire issue so I knew he didn't do anything about it or would do anything about it. AGAIN , NEVER BUY TIRES FROM MIKE SHAW TOYOTA IN CALALLEN! You'll be sorry if you do. I take my car in for an oil change and tire rotation and of course pay $80 plus dollars for the oil change and when my car is ready I check my tire pressure because I had checked it before I turned over my car to them and the tires were all off from the right setting. I check the tire pressure and the tire pressure is still the same on all tires all of them off. So I go back inside and tell the service manager Mr. Barlow if his guys even check the tire pressure because I tell him that my tires need air pressure and that they were the same pressure all off when I brought the car in for the service. I don't know what the heck is going on at Mike Shaw Toyota honestly. I hope they're changing my oil since they recommend 10,000 miles but I'm having it changed every 5,000. If you ever have issues at this location , speak to your car salesman. You might get things done because he'll go straight to the GM of the dealership. We bought our used 2014 Expedition from Mike Shaw in 2018. They promised to replace the front drivers seat as the there was a gash in the seat. They replaced the seat cover but was completely the wrong color and at first expected us to accept this extreme difference in color from the other upholstery. Their solution was to dye the seat. After a few weeks the color was wearing off and we requested a tube of matching dye, after many calls we were ignored and gave up. We brought our Expedition in recently to service and thought we were still under warranty. Our windshield wipers on the passenger side were not working. Our windshield wiper on the back had stopped working. When we called to receive our diagnosis they told us we were not under warranty ( we believe we had different information in our packet in the car which was no longer there at the time of pick up) The estimates for repairs were $3,925.20. The suggested repair cost for the the front passenger windshield wiper was $620.91, they claimed that there front wiper was worn and inop in the report. When we picked up the car there was a rod in the back seat. I asked what it was but they didn't know. We asked our handyman to look at the problem and showed him the rod that we found in our back seat, it was the missing connector between the motor to the passenger windshield wiper. One hour and $80 our windshield wipers were working in perfect harmony. The back windshield wiper was not working on the back rear hatch. They told us our motor was shot , they had dismantled and had not reinstalled it. It was all laying all over the the back of the car. Their estimate to repair the back windshield wiper motor was $557.90. We insisted that they reinstall the back panel and guess what the back windshield started working no problem. No motor problem. Would never buy a vehicle here again. read more

Then they try and upsell me a newer vehicle which cost more and that's suppose to make me feel better??? I bought a used car at Mike Shaw Toyota about a month ago. They ordered the plates for me and we went to pick them up today. I must say that our purchase from AJ Adams was the finest purchase of a vehicle I have ever experienced. I am female and have been treated poorly in the past as salespeople feel they can only deal with men. Several men have lost a commission as we have gotten up and walked out when they start to talk to the MAN. AJ was a pleasure to work with and today when we went to the service department to get the plates put on + a couple of minor concerns looked at, AJ passed through. He taught us how to reset an alert that has been coming on, took the car and filled it with gas, which he had promised to us when we purchased but the pumps were not operating that day so he filled it up today and as I was getting in the car I noticed the car had dust and just then AJ asked if he could rinse that dust off. I use to work at this location as a detailer for the company Finish Line Detailing. This company pays you 8 bucks an hour, and only way you are making a good check is if you work overtime. 55 hours for $437 is crazy, and they expect too much for very low pay. My first issue being that everyone there would treat us like absolute crap, including my own managers. One of the sales managers at this Toyota, "Kalvin" is his name I believe, had made a threat to me saying "I'll put my job aside and handle business" clearly stating that he wanted to be physical and violent over a windshield being dirty. This location is no professional place of business at all. Most importantly any customer who had bought a brand new vehicle and payed for the "Ceramic" package needs to test it by pouring water on their car to see if it beads off, if it does not bead off then it didn't receive the ceramic. A lot of brand new cars didn't get this package therefore have been scammed out of $1,600. A lot of these brand new cars were just ran threw the wash machine. Also use to work at the location Kia in Corpus Christi and a lot of the brand new vehicles didn't get the ceramic either and I believe they were charging $2,000. This company that's contracted with the establishment is absolute crap and are only there to make a quick buck! read more

Called several times trying to get warranty for defective car battery . No one in the Service Department would answer their phones. Left messages, no return calls. Had to drive across town to other Toyota Dealership and still have to wait for Mike Shaw to send copy of original invoice. Mike Shaw has such poor service. Some of the people work really hard there but something is definitely not correct with how they provide service. Have had issues with service there in the past. Thought it had improved but, "No"! Where to begin.... (TL:DR - Go to Autonation Toyota if you're in Corpus, and skip these guys completely) First, we'll start with cultural and, dare I say, ethical issues. A TRD Pro Tundra was listed as available, which I inquired about. Was told it was ready for a test drive, and they would gladly set up the appointment. We live about 3.5 hours/220ish miles away, so I asked that the vehicle be secured and the test drive/appointment set up for monday morning. All confirmed, so we hit the road first thing Monday AM. I emailed ahead of time confirming we were on our way, so there was no concern of us skipping. Johnny replied and said he was ready for us. We arrive to be told the truck had sold a week ago 'BUT! We have another white Tundra with a great package ready to go!". No. Sir. I knew what i wanted, and you told me it was available. I politely (first mistake) expressed my frustrations asked not to be contacted again, and we promptly left. I received an email about 20 minutes later apologizing, stating he'd found another one locally that was identical which the dealership could trade for. I (second mistake) asked him to confirm, and immediately notify me, since we were grabbing a quick lunch before heading back. He promptly provided the build sheet with the additional options, and said he was working solely on getting that vehicle to his dealership. Fast forward 2 hours, 3 emails, promises of personal pickup and expeditious paperwork, he said the truck can't be physically released until the following morning, but due to the issues, they will deliver the vehicle to me, free. Fine. Tuesday AM, I text at 10am and am told "Been working it since first thing, I'll have an update for you shortly". Not a reply since. I contacted once more, asking to simply confirm if it will happen or not, and I've heard nothing. Here is the long and short of it. I was lied to, in order to get me to the dealership and they knew full well how far away we were, what my intentions were, and it was just misleading. Second of all, they're leaving sold trucks online for expended periods (I'll give you 24-48 hours from sale, tech department, to remove a vehicle from online inventory, even though thats borderline inexcusable. Don't @ me) solely to drive internet traffic, phone calls, contact harvesting, and clicks. Its 100% clickbait. Yes, their vehicle inventory, including sold vehicles, is exactly the same as those stupid facebook "You'll never guess what XXX said while filming their latest blockbuster!". The latter is my biggest issue with the dealership. It is also why I included the sales manager in this review. Mike Shaw Toyota has allowed a culture to develop and act this way. They sold a vehicle, allowed it to remain listed as available, AND allowing their sales staff to book appointments and test drives on vehicles that are not available. That isn't poor communication within a department, or someone 'dropping the ball'. Thats culture. Nefarious tactics. Shady methods. Downright misrepresenting their product (inventory) to attract buyers and traffic. Mike Shaw Toyota is a shame to the brand of Toyota, to the honest dealerships out there, and intensely worthy of the title "Stealership". Avoid them. Heck, don't just avoid them, but warn your friends and family to stay away as well. By the way, I called Autonation Toyota right p the road and found the TRD Pro they claimed was now theirs, and bought it. Free delivery to Houston, and everything handled within a half hour, this morning. Thats how you do business. read more

He then told me he had a Rav4 newer model that was traded in by a friend. He also had a truck. So being that I have always wanted a truck I wanted to see the truck. My vehicle was a Rav4 2018 I kept up with all the oil changes it was new when I bought it. It had only 50000 miles. Sales takes me to see a 2015 truck with more miles than mine. The tires looked bad. The truck was very used. It did have a bigger engine. After some thought I declined. He then took me to a 2020 tacoma. Beautiful truck less miles. I said ok lets see if numbers will work. He told me it had more power than my Rav4. I was so excited. Newer vehicle more power it was just what I was looking for. I never was ask if I wanted a test drive. But being it was newer I trusted sales guy was being honest. He worked numbers and I got the truck. After I waited while they cleaned it up. Guy pulled it up. I got in so happy. I took off and it felt like my Rav4. I had to get onto freeway and noticed it didn't pickup much right away. I just thought well maybe I'm just not use to it. I drove it for a week. I finally asked my son who works for Mike shaw to tell me what size engine it had. Well it has the same engine as the Rav4. I felt so betrayed. The sales guy had lied about it having more power. Don't get me wrong Mike Shaw has good people who are honest and do everything in their power to make things right. I just got a sales guy who lied. I went back and spoke to a very sweet young lady and she tried to help me. I just wanted to swap into a vehicle with more power. However to my disappointment I was told I had 5 days to return vehicle. I was never told 5 days was cut off if not satisfied. I also would like to add this Sales guy needs training. What one sales guy does reflects on the dealership as a whole. He needs training on how to talk to people who are coming in to buy. He called me mama's. I would have rather have been directed as Mrs. Lopez. At my job we work as a team to accomplish what we are there for, so when one of us fails it reflects on our team as a whole. I am stuck with this truck now for at most 1 to 2 yrs before I can get what I was wanting. So people take someone with you who knows engines and check reviews on sales guys. Ask for test drive and ask a lot of questions. I don't recommend Abel Padilla if you want someone who is going to be honest. However I would still ask that you buy from Mike Shaw because I truly believe there are honest sales people there. Was in talks with a salesman here for a couple days, took some time off work to go talk in person and test drive a truck on a Saturday. Waiting to hear back all Monday while they "work on trade numbers." Text the salesman Monday to reach out and tells me he's with other people and sent my trade to a manager to see if they could get more. Didn't hear anything all Tuesday. Check the site Wednesday and the truck I was interested is no longer on it, kinda iffy to not let me know to stop wasting my time there.
