I am sharing my experience so other customers can make an informed decision…read more I went to Valvoline Instant Oil Change on Franklin Boulevard in Gastonia to inquire about service. After I pulled into the bay, where technicians work underneath the vehicle out of view, I was told my oil had already been drained before I received a final price or authorized the service. I was given multiple prices: $144, then $110 verbally, and the final paperwork showed $128. I explained that I only had $106 and was $22 short. The manager, Damen, kept my vehicle keys and would not release my car. He offered to arrange an Uber ride home but said I would have to find my own way back later to retrieve my vehicle after getting the money. My 14-year-old daughter and I remained at the location for about three and a half hours in the heat. I told staff that I am disabled, was becoming light-headed, and needed to eat. My concerns were not resolved. When the situation escalated, police and EMS responded. I was told EMS had received incorrect information that I had diabetes. The responding police officer ultimately paid the remaining $22 balance out of her own pocket so my vehicle could be released, and she signed the receipt, which I have kept. This was an extremely distressing experience. I encourage customers to ask for a written estimate, confirm the price before any work begins, and make sure all services are authorized before allowing repairs to proceed.

The customer service was absolutely pathetic--staff were careless, unprofessional, and clearly uninterested in doing their job right. To make matters worse, they didn't even reset the oil change sensor, which shows a complete lack of attention to detail. When I brought it up, the manager was dismissive and offered zero solutions. No accountability, no effort--nothing. On top of all that, their prices are higher than other places, which is honestly outrageous considering the terrible service. Save your time, money, and frustration--go somewhere else.

The Service Manager (Jalen) gave me attitude multiple times and kept raising his voice at me and at other customers. He should not have a job that deals with customers, EVER! Long post alert: My…read morecar died two days in a row. Each time I called AAA. The first time, a guy named Cristano came out. He was nice enough until I wouldn't buy a battery for $350! My battery was under warranty until Sept 2025, so why wouldn't he honor it? He was pulling and pushing my battery really hard and I had to tell him to stop b/c I was scared he was going to break something. So he said that b/c my battery wasn't tied down it exempted the warranty. Day 2 Lance came out and he was nice. He kept saying that his machine said the battery was fine. After he gave me a jump, I took my car straight to Pep Boys. Stephanie (Store Mgr) and John (Area Mgr), took great care of me! They set my expectations that it would take an hour to get a reading from the battery. After about 45 minutes, Stephanie came back and said they couldn't get the battery to hold a charge and wanted to keep it overnight. I had told both AAA techs that the battery needed replacing because when I originally replaced the battery, my car was dead dead. My keyfob didn't even work. Pep Boys wasn't just trying to sell me a battery, I had seen this 2 1/2 years earlier when AAA replaced my battery. So just b/c I'm female, doesn't mean I don't know MY CAR! I don't know other cars, just the one I drive. Pep Boys replaced my battery, AND I HAVE NOT HAD ANY ISSUES SINCE! Stephanie John and Brittany are LIFE SAVERS! They sent me the screenshots of what data the old battery was giving. Pep Boys has earned a CUSTOMER FOR LIFE with me!!! THANK YOU JOHN STEPHANIE and BRITTANY!

These qualities are the facets that reinforce my trust and brand loyalty. For the past decade, despite living 45 minutes away, I've preferred driving or towing my car there instead of using a nearby mechanic. Even on the most hectic of days, the front-desk staff always welcome you with a cheerful smile. The BOSS, Howard, is very kind and will recommend only the necessary actions that you must take to fix or maintain your car. FROM THEIR OWN WORDS: Fair Repair Auto Care is dedicated to helping our community keep their vehicles running smoothly while saving money. We understand how essential your car is for daily routines, whether it's taking children to school or commuting to work. My engine locked up on me due to lack of oil and the company blamed me; stating that I "burned out the oil". No, my father was a mechanic and he warned me about oil burning out of a car blue or black smoke coming out of the exhaust and you can smell it in the AC ventilation system. Neither one happened because I didn't have any oil in the engine.
