waited 4 hours for brake and tire change then when I got home I noticed the lug nuts for the back tires were stripped! That told me they didn't use proper torque to put the lug nuts back on and did it by hand, also explained why the guy gave me a 10% discount for no reason! Do NOT GO HERE! read more

Long post alert: My car died two days in a row. Each time I called AAA. The first time, a guy named Cristano came out. He was nice enough until I wouldn't buy a battery for $350! My battery was under warranty until Sept 2025, so why wouldn't he honor it? He was pulling and pushing my battery really hard and I had to tell him to stop b/c I was scared he was going to break something. So he said that b/c my battery wasn't tied down it exempted the warranty. Day 2 Lance came out and he was nice. He kept saying that his machine said the battery was fine. After he gave me a jump, I took my car straight to Pep Boys. Stephanie (Store Mgr) and John (Area Mgr), took great care of me! They set my expectations that it would take an hour to get a reading from the battery. After about 45 minutes, Stephanie came back and said they couldn't get the battery to hold a charge and wanted to keep it overnight. I had told both AAA techs that the battery needed replacing because when I originally replaced the battery, my car was dead dead. My keyfob didn't even work. Pep Boys wasn't just trying to sell me a battery, I had seen this 2 1/2 years earlier when AAA replaced my battery. So just b/c I'm female, doesn't mean I don't know MY CAR! I don't know other cars, just the one I drive. Pep Boys replaced my battery, AND I HAVE NOT HAD ANY ISSUES SINCE! Stephanie John and Brittany are LIFE SAVERS! Horrible deal Breaker! Purchased set of 4 Cooper Tires last day of sale at half price plus installation. Paid in full online and scheduled installation appointment for two days later. Received immediate confirmation via email. Morning of appointment received call that store has to order tires from another store as they don't have them in stock. Then said they could not honor the half price deal because that deal had expired but could give me a get one free with purchase of three tires. When I said that was bad business the caller said it wasn't their fault and rudely hung up. Just as well as I won't do business there again. Shady! read more

I have been using this pep boys in Gastonia NC since the doors first opened for business, bought tires, auto parts and actually bought a leather jacket from this store when they sold stuff like that years ago! But on my most recent use of this store buying tires for my wife's car, which started out bad to begin with,because they didn't want to honor one of their deals after we had already bought the tires online but they did offer a different deal that was going to cost more money, but after my wife wrote a review on yelp and google they changed their mind and decided to honor the deal.Thanks to the manager for that! So we agreed! During the installation of the tires conveniently there was a problem, which brought the price of the tires back up to nearly the price of the second deal that we were offered ! I had stepped away from the shop so they called my wife and got her to approve the upsale.Unfortunately I had forgotten my phone so I couldn't be reached! When I returned to the store no one mentioned the upsale to me until the tires were installed and I was checking out! This was a serious red flag and scam alert to me! I questioned the upsale but payed the bill anyway and with a few choice words I started leaving and then other things happened that actually had one of their employees threaten me with bodily harm, I am two months from 70 years old! So bottom line is I feel we were scammed by this store so that they could recoup the money that they were losing by deciding to honoring the original deal! read more

He went back and the girl at the front told him to, "deal with it." Good thing I didn't go with him. The breaks that they never touched got so bad that we could hear metal on metal. At this visit, they were asked to change the tires. They had for two days. The tires were not changed, only pumped up. No matter what my husband told them, they stood by their comment. The last straw was yesterday. They got the car at 7:00 am, said it would be done by 12:00 pm. They would call him. He ended up calling them and it was not ready. We went and got the car. I am currently stuck at a gas station over 200 miles from home because of this pep boys! Last weekend I took my car here for the second time for the same reason- my engine light is on and it takes a few minutes to start my car when I fill up gas. They told me that they fixed the problem. I trusted them and took my car on the road because I had a death in the family and I'm on my way to a funeral. My engine light is back on and since I had to stop for gas, I'm stuck here until my car is ready to turn on again. It is almost midnight! I am not happy!!! read more

I have been to this location many times. they are always super friendly at the checkin They give you an estimated price and then you can wait or be picked up. I don't like to wait there because the wait area is not customer friendly I go to bed bath and beyond next door to pass the time I'm not going to return again. Ordered tires through a third party, who had a partnership with Pep Boys for installation. I booked an appointment for 10:00 am on a Saturday. I received a message the morning of warning me that 3 other customers had appointments at 10am. I asked if I should come earlier or later, and was told to come at 2:00. I showed up at 2:00, and was told my tires had not arrived. I was understanding that there was a miscommunication since I'd purchased from a 3rd party. I was told that he would order the tires through their supplier and they'd arrive between 12 and 1 the next day. I started calling at 1:30 to ensure the tires had been delivered. After multiple attempts, I finally got an answer about 2:00. I was then told that he'd made a mistake--they don't take deliveries on Sunday. I was then assured that the tires would be there in Monday. I asked what time they closed, and was told 7:00. If I was there before they closed, they'd make sure I got my tires put on. Again, I was understanding. We all make mistakes. Trying to be courteous, I left work an hour and a half early so that I wasn't arriving at the last minute. Getting there at 5:30, they'd have an hour and a half before closing. I was told that there's no way they could put tires on. All of the technicians had left for the day. But, I was told yesterday that they were open until 7. No apology. It was all my fault. If I'd purchased tires from them...If I'd made an appointment....If I'd called before coming...yada, yada, yada. I just took my tires and left. I'll find another shop to install. I usually try to find one positive thing to include in a review, but there is not one single positive thing to include. I guess the positive is that they didn't get to touch my vehicle. Me and my girlfriend have been here over 2 hours for 2 inspections. They got my care done within 30-40 mins. Cool great. Reminder we turned in our keys together at the same time. It's been over a 1 /12 hours since I received my car and she has still yet to receive a call or anything this is the slowest place I've ever been too. Bought two auto batteries for $129.99 each, each with three year warranties, from this place on 03/15/2019. One of the batteries went dead and was returned for a replacement on 1/07/2020, just over 8 months of use. A new battery was provided but was told that this new battery would not come with the normal three year warranty as I had already used up 8 months of the three year warranty period. Now the warranty of the new battery was reduced to 2 years and 4 months. I contended that the battery that I returned was defective and that I should get the 3 year warranty on the replacement battery. To no avail. On 2/10/2020, the other battery that I had purchased died. When I returned it for a warranty replacement, was told that the warranty on the new replaced battery was now down to 2 years and 3 months ect. Also, snotty manager when tried to argue my case. People at Advance Auto told me never heard of such an attitude and they honored original warranties on returns. BEWARE. NOT GOOD! read more

So i checked the prices online and i thought this would be a good place to get my oil changed. After coming in to schedule an appointment i felt weird that they didn't quote me a price then. So i came in at my appointment time and got my price. Almost 100 dollars!?!? Okay so the price of the labor was not included online. So i find out my air filter is dirty and i have a light out they want 40 mor dollars to fix this. Lol. So im not getting the light fixed or the air filter as i can get it cheaper myself. This place is just out to make as much money for the crappy labor that is done. My car came back with all kinds of oil on the steering wheel and dirt on my floor. If I am taking my car to any service center, I usually have a specific purpose in mind. At, pepboys they do not. Every time I have been they have taken much longer than necessary to perform the given task because they are busy looking for other issues. Example #1: I go in order to get a simple oil change. After two hours of waiting while my car was already in the bay, I am greeted with a bill of over $250 worth of preventative maintenance and replacement parts (none of which had even been performed, including the oil change). Example #2: my car is in need of an inspection. They keep my car for a total of 7 hours which carried over into the next morning. The exact same thing happened, the bill was $450 for everything extra, which again was still not performed. I will not make the mistake of using pepboys a third time. read more

Made an appointment at charlotte location and had the woman make sure they had and would have the tires i wanted, got there and nope no tires, so get sent to this location an hour away and while they did get my tires done i asked them about spline lug nuts and they had to get some delivered and charged me 80 dam dollars for a 40 dollar set after i had said i would run down the road real quick and grab them myself before even getting started but they insisted they had them or could get them, failed to mention the 100% markup, take your parts to them, dont let them buy your parts for you read more

Quality of service has went down since I began taking my car in. My work schedule only allows me to have work done on weekends without missing time from work. In the past year or so, service managers have changed 3 times. That in and of itself should speak volumes. Sadly, I had to suffer through 4 "fixes" only for the problem to remain. Each time, the same part was replaced and warranted out. Even the last time when the part was ordered from Dodge/Chrysler. After spending every weekend at the location for a month, I was apprised that the issue was out of scope for them and I would need to visit a certified repairman at my own cost. This was even after I had contacted corporate and enlisted their aide. I don't think I need to say I will not trust this store to even put air in my tire from now on. read more

We took our car to be inspected around 10am yesterday and were told they were absolutely slammed and to bring the car back at 2 and they would be ready for it, no problem. When we showed up at 2, they told us there was no way they would be able to get around to it this weekend and didn't even seem apologetic that they weren't going to be able to do what they promised us earlier. We agreed to leave our car overnight and were assured that it would be ready for us at 10:30 this morning. When we showed up at 10:45 this morning, our car hadn't even been looked at yet. This is the worst place I've ever been to to get my car looked at! The assistant manager Daniel took advantage of me and lied about what was wrong with my car just to get more money out of me!! He tried charging me almost 700 dollars then proceeded to try to push me to get it all done before leaving. The technician told me that the stuff he listed was not wrong with my car. When I left the assistant manager Daniel followed me to my vehicle and starting beating on my driver window and windshield then proceed to scream at the top of his lungs at me; calling me a liar and he was also screaming and saying that he didn't take advantage of me! I rarely go in a Pep Boys and after my last visit I now know why. I went in this one only because I happend to be in the area. I walk in and the store, as large as it is, only has about 2-3 customers including my self. I roam the store and never run into an employee. Then I found out why. They are all at the parts counter BS'n. As I walk past, no one stops their conversation to ask if they can help me. I end up on the audio aisle as am looking for some stereo equipment for my car. Two employees then walk down the aisle past me, again never asking I they could help me. I find a set of speaker boxes I knew were cheaper than any where else and take them the the cashier. Finally! A friendly person who speaks to me and thanks me for my purchase. I was in the store about 20 minutes and the cashier was the only person who spoke to me the entire time. If I'm in the area, I might stop in another Pep Boys, but I would never make a special trip, or drive out of my way to get to one. read more

Ordered some wheels for my jeep from Tire Rack and needed to pick a location near me to have them installed. This was one of the recommended locations near me where I am currently working out of town. They did a great job and even boxed up my old wheels and loaded them for me. Only reason I'm not giving five stars is because I did have to wait for about 20 minutes after I got out of work to get someone to help me so I could Pay the bill. Bought 4 tires online, I only wanted 4 tires mounted & balanced. After speaking to 3 different people & numerous questions about the tires, they tried to sell me a front alignment I don't need. They finally gave me a quote for mounting and balancing 4 tires, I already have. 135.00 they obviously work on commission at Pep Boys. Terrible service! I'm not quite sure why I choose this place over others - perhaps it's because it's a national brand you would hope to trust. This is the second time I've visited this location. I had a slow leak of freon that could not be detected during my first visit. The manager said that if by the end of summer, I loose my AC, it would indicate the slow leak. Here I am, 3 hours later AND after requesting an update, the manager tells me it's going to cost $744. No updates over the course of 3 hours, no repairs done. Went in Sunday 12/27/15,with an appointment@2:00 to get a"New"Set of Cooper A/T's put on,First thing I said before I even gave them my name was, Does that price quoted include new TPMS sensors,and myt TPMS light WAS on!Yes! @3:15,girl says trying to get a bay cleared to get You in!Finally,after 4:30 they get the tires on,and I ask about the results from the free diagnostic,and she went to manager,and instead of a printed out copy as it said I'd get,I got somebody's work order/receipt with the codes scribbled on the back,and we walked to my car where he zero'ed out the codes!Well as soon as I start the car to leave,the TPMS comes on first thing!I called him over to see this,and he says"Oh it's gotta run thru a cycle,just drive it,and if it don't go off,bring it back!"I asked again did they replace or rebuild the TPMS sensors?? He Said,"Yes,I watched them do it"! First thing if they were properly rebuilt and working,I wouldn't have a damn light on,esp,being that he just cleared the codes from the computer!I drove from Pep Boys in Gastonia,N.C.back home to Shelby,NC and no futher, wake up Tuesday morning,when I am told by my girlfriend,you might wanna go move your Truck,their fixing to put new gutters up! I go to move it,and it would hardly move,i check the park brake,still not wanting to move,so i give it a little gas and back it off into the grass off her driveway!I walk around the truck and the back passenger tire is flat & off rim!I was HOT!So I call,and tell the gal that answered,what's going on,she says I'll write something up and send it up front!An hour goes by,I call back,another gal answered,and I said what's gonna be done about this,she knew nothing about what I was talking about,So I tell her the story and end up on the phone with the manager,and tell him it can't be just filled with air,the tire is now off the rim! He says"Oh you'll have to call the tow service,and set up a time for them to tow you in,I can't initiate that!I said"Well I'll call them but,I'm not paying a tow bill when I just spent,$691.00 on new tires and sensors,and have not even drove it but from your store back to home!And he says they'll pay the cost!So I call the tow service who tries to charge me and has to call the store,to make sure store is gonna pay for the tow,and finally,she comes back saying someone should be there by 2:05!Some time later after 2:30 I get a call from the tow company that Pep Boys Tow Service has Sent up to pick up my truck,saying"We are coming,but it'll be a bit!Not 5 minutes later the PepBoysAutomated calls me wanting me to press 1 if the tow service had arrived or 2 if they had not,I hung up!A few minutes later the tow company showed up,two nice guys,that couldn't believe what had happened,and were very sympathetic!They were a private tow company,paid by Pep Boys! I pointed out a bur in my wheel that I told them to point out that was not there prior to the new tire installation!The tow driver's say"we're gonna have to turn the truck around to get it on the rollback!And i said"the only way is to drive it and the tire's practically off the rim,I hate to move it,onto the drive!And they said it's gotta be done!So I slowly move it around,as slow as it will move,and of course,it screwed up the rim,and I said to make sure to point that out,because they should for one be liable,and 2 they should have more sense than to just put the tire back on that rim, least they should do is mount the new tire on the spare tire,but they should make it good!Since the"idiot"manager let me drive off with the TPMS code back on!Well,I missed their call that my vechile was ready,I was so pissed!I called the store,some guy answered and I said I'm calling about my Hummer that had the flat on the new tires and was towed in,and He says,it's ready,and I ask what was the problem,he says"There was a nail in the tire,and we fixed it and remounted it!"I said"In that screwed up rim?"Yes"I said"what are you gonna do about the rim? he says"you need to talk to the manager!So The"Idiot"manager says"Oh we go it fixed,it was something about the TPMS sensor on that tire,and it didn't seal properly,that's why your tire went flat!"I asked"Did U put a new tire on and did you put it on that screwed up rim?He says" No,new tire there was nothing wrong with the tire,and yes we put it back on the same rim!I asked"What are you gonna do about that rim,and Why'd you mount that tire on the screwed up rim,and if you weren't gonna replace the rim,why didn't you at least mount it on the damn spare tire rim?He said"Your Truck is here ready,and We are not gonna replace the rim,or tire,it was not compromised that would be a liability if it was,we fixed whats wrong and it's here waiting on you!"I said Liability?,like sending me home on a screwed up tire that was apparently already going flat on my way home at 70mph?That wasn't a liability?I just said"I'll be there first thing in the morning since it's so late!12/30 left Pep boys,went 10miles,TPMS sensor back on? read more

The last two times I went to this Pep Boys for an oil change, the staff would barely acknowledge me and when they did they were rude. I decided that I would give it one more go and see if things had improved. Well, they did! Brian greeted me with a smile and a handshake. He was incredibly professional and went above and beyond when inspecting my car even though it was for a simple oil change. I really appreciated his level of professionalism and friendly demeanor. When I called and asked if they could do an inspection, they said yes. I then asked if they could fit it in if I got there at 7:30p (they close at 8:00p), they said no because they don't have anyone there... Which mean that they can't do an inspection. Why a company would stay open until 8:00p but not have staff until then, I don't understand. Why you tell a customer you can do something but you can't is just horrible customer service. I have never been to Pep Boys and never will after not being properly informed and after such poor customer service. read more

Not a good experience. I purchased tires here, well within the warranty mileage still, and the tread started tearing off. They told me it would not be covered. During the tire installation I had to wait about 3 hours. I would recommend going down the road to Discount Tire for anything tire related. read more
