I love Mike's! I've purchased both of my cameras and all of my lenses from here. They price-match so there isn't any reason to go anywhere else. The folks I've dealt with have all been knowledgeable and have made great recommendations on future lens purchases. Each time I've gone in they always ask me about how my photography is going, and even remember what my wife got and ask about how her shooting is going. Not sure if they have great memory or do recon (since I called in early to reserve a camera that just came in from shipment). I've also used them for framing with great results. I've always had a great experience and would recommend Mike's to everybody from pros to those just getting started. read more

I upgraded my camera gear from Canon to Sony and chose to buy it all at a local store to support the local folks. I had great service from Carl for all my questions and ordering items that were backordered. He was helpful and understanding. I've been in a few times now and each time he's helped me sort through my ideas of what glass I wanted to get. Mike's Camera and other brick/mortar camera stores are up against it vs the online resellers. But given photography is such a tactile/visual medium, and the camera ergonomics are so important that having a place to go is critical. I have no reservations going there for my business in the future. Also the protection plan warranties via Mack they offer are well priced and a good value. They also sell Peak Design gear, which is awesome and somewhat hard to find in Denver. read more

I have been coming here for years. Sometimes for a quick question or rental and recently to purchase some new equipment. The staff here is ALWAYS so helpful and friendly as can be. I recently dealt quite a bit with a gentleman named Carl. He is literally the best!! Above and beyond incredible customer service and he saved me a good chunk of change on my new 70-200. Thank you Carl!! They also stayed open a few minutes late for me when I was stuck in crappy traffic. I told them that very day how great they all are and promised to fulfill this review. I can't say I feel as strongly about the other Mike's locations that I have dealt with and hope one day I can change that feeling. read more

While I've been a shutterbug for most of my life, I've just recently ventured into the world of manual shooting. Wanting to upgrade my camera body, I ventured into Mike's hoping to speak with someone but a slight bit intimidated because I'm not quite fluent in photography. I had nothing to worry about. Krista is a gem of a human and walked me through my choices with patience and care. I cannot possibly say enough about the customer service I received. Having worked in customer service I know people have off days but he seemed less than helpful and would turn away every time I approached the counter for help. I know nothing about cameras! But I needed some sort of attachment to the tripod I had so I could use my Phone to record a video for YouTube. Well the staff there were more than helpful, searching for all sorts of possibilities that would satisfy my situation and then they found an item in stock that was the definitive solution AND IT WAS ON SALE!!! I was extremely satisfied with their services and when I decide to actually get a camera for video production, I'm going there! Plus, they are a 'Pun-Friendly' store! My husband and I decided to try our hand at photography and made the jump from a point and shoot Canon Powershot to a really good quality Nikon. We tried what most people do and looked online. We read a ton of reviews, but there's nothing like having things explained in person to weigh our options. We tried stopping at a big box store, but the sales person clearly didn't know a lot about cameras and referred us to YouTube if we had any questions. We stopped at Mike's Camera in Wheat Ridge in Jan 2017 and the experience was totally different and exactly what we needed. We had a bunch of questions and learned more in the 45 minutes we were there than he had in hours of research online. We decided to take some time to think about what exactly we needed and came back one other time before coming in this week to finally make the purchase. Jeff Lawson was our sales person and he did a wonderful job. Jeff was able to show us comparisons between brands of lenses and got us a great deal on a camera. We ended up getting last year's model for significantly less money and Jeff was able to show us that there weren't any significant differences. This ended up saving us hundreds of dollars. Jeff was patient with us and did a great job explaining features. Jeff encouraged us to call him with any questions and it was clear Jeff was not just out to make a sale. He genuinely wanted to make sure we had a camera to meet our needs. I would recommend Mike's Camera and will continue to give them my business. read more

I'm truly surprised at all of the crappy reviews. I've been very happy and have been there many times. It helps to pay attention to sales, and not all salespeople know all things about all products, so it helps to be clear about what you want to know. That quickly gets you routed to the right person. I had just been given my birthday present...a Manfrotto pistol grip ball head! I go to take it for a spin and wah wah wah (cue sad trombone), it didn't fit my tripod. Manfrotto is sadistic for not using the typical 1/4 screw!!! It was 4:39 pm. I search for the nearest camera store.... Mike's Camera in Wheat Ridge...15 mins away and closing at 5 pm. I drove there like I had a pregnant woman in the passenger seat. I get there 10 mins to close, with my ball head in one hand, connector plate for tripod in the other. I rush up to the counter and tell the guy, "I need an adapter!". He takes the things I was holding, knew immediately what I needed but says "we may be out". My heart sank. However, he asks another guy (I'm horrible for remembering names...Sorry guys!!!) if there could be some elsewhere. 2nd guy goes in the back and comes out with the only one they had left! First guy even put it on the ball head for me! Super cheap too because elsewhere I would have had to buy multiple adapters just to get the one I needed! I was so thankful! They saved my birthday. Poor quality poor service. This place is a joke when it comes to prints! Tried ordering prints online and had issues so called the store and of course they did not know how to solve the problem so had to go into the store to place order! Then when picking up order they shorted me on a large print and one of the other prints had damage so had to ask for missing print and if they could reprint the damaged one! They gave me attitude because they had to print the large missing print and told me I'd have to come back the next day for the damaged one because the machine was already turned off ( 6:30pm store close at 7pm )! So I had expressed that I wouldn't have time to come back clear across town and was meeting with client the next day. So only option they offered would be to reprint it the next day and I could give the damaged print in the meantime to the client which I guess in some ways is a poor solution that some may have gambled with. I for one did not want to try and pass off damaged goods and have to make up a song and dance as to why it was the way it was then have to waste more time and gas, so had to ask for a refund! Lesson learned Just beware when using this shop and always give yourself enough time and always double check your prints before leaving store! Quality is not to trusted here! read more

I went into Mikes Camera with the intent to buy a certain camera to take on vacation and realized once I saw it that it was to big for a travel camera. Rob, one of the sales team, asked me detailed questions about how I traveled, what type of pictures I take and what technology functions I was looking for. He then showed me several travel size cameras and I ended up selecting the Panasonic LUMIX ZS60. Rob gave me a quick tutorial right there and I took it home to play with it. After a couple of days I couldn't figure out how to connect the camera to my iPhone so I called and asked Rob if he could take a look and figure it out. He said sure, come on in. I went in and in 5 minutes he had it fixed. Nothing wrong with the camera, operator error. I love the new camera and will definitely go back to Mikes Camera. Rob will be my go to guy. read more

This day and age there are options to purchase everything online and just bypass local businesses. You can save a dime, and we all know customer service is basically a thing of the past. As a photographer I have endless online options. However, I like knowing there is a local place to go and a person to talk to if I have a question about my equipment etc... I have been a customer of Mike's for a few years and have had good experiences. About a month ago I decided to purchase a Nikon D800. I called the Mike's on County Line Road and was transferred to Randy. He told me the D800 was no longer available. He spent a lot of time telling me all about the D810 and all of the reasons why it was a better option and a much improved version of the D800. I was really impressed how knowledgable and thorough Randy was explaining in great detail the pros of the D810. The next day I purchased the camera and at Randy's suggestion, Elements 12. I have had a lot of questions regarding the Elements 12 and the camera. Randy is always available to spend time answering questions or help locate additional equipment. Randy is an incredible salesman. He makes great suggestions on equipment that will improve my skills as a photographer. I really find value knowing I have a sincere and professional "salesman" to assist me when an issue presents itself. Jeff at Mike's Camera in Wheat Ridge really came to our rescue at the 11th hour. Our production team has been wrestling with replacing a tripod that was paired with a very high-end video head. Extensive research could not provide a solution to our dilemma and we were up against an event the next day. Made phone call to Jeff and a quick trip to the Wheat Ridge store and he immediately observed the issue and showed us how to fix our little problem. Kudos to Jeff! read more

I bought a 18-270 Tamron lense last November. After a month using it I was not pleased with the results, almost no pictures kept. I dropped by the store and Jeff suggested some alternate settings. I thought this a good idea since the camera body was also new to me. Another month of using and I was still unhappy. So they sent the lens in to be adjusted. 3 weeks wait and the lens was no better. Carl suggested some other more specific adjustments on the body and I was happy to try them. Still the pictures were not as crisp and sharp as I think they should be. So Andrea (manager) spent probably 2 hours with me looking at lenses, explaining some differences in type of lenses and brand differences, and doing paper work. She was extremely patient with me and very helpful in helping me learn what my personal needs and preferences are so I can buy the lenses I will be happy with instead of 3 months of frustration because I chose and was sold the wrong lens! I expected to be stuck with a lens I was not happy with. But Andrea was allowed to swap the lens (Which was probably not defective and I paid the difference that was due) for one that I thought would do what I wanted. And it does! I am much happier with the 55-300 Nikon lens as the photos are much clearer and crisper. This is not a negative for the Tamron lenses, just my pickiness for what I see in my photos and how I use my camera for photography for this particular lens set up. I think it would have been helpful if more information was provided by and to me during the original purchase by the sales staff to determine what I really needed versus what I was asking for. 5 Stars for Andrea taking care of me. General experience in the store maybe 3-4 stars. Have had other sales staff somewhat rude (not Jeff), interrupting me while I was talking to another staff member because they are on commission, often act like they just want to sell and not really sell me what I need (not Jeff). read more

I called on the phone with questions and they took all the time I needed to help me make the right decision. I was looking for a lens for my wife on her birthday, as she is expressing much interest in her newly acquired Nikon 3200. When I showed up they remembered me and then took the time to show me all the lenses we talked about on phone and we looked through them all on a 5300. Even with my 2 year old son in the store with me grabbing at everything eye level, they helped me make the right decision. I ended up buying not only a lens, but a filter, tripod, and Adobe Lightroom! These guys deserve way more reviews than what are online... read more

I was in the Wheat Ridge location today (Thursday, July 11th) in the afternoon while I was out on some errands. I was in to get a feel for a few cameras to see how they felt in my hand. Two sales people were working the floor, one woman and one man. I had recognized the gentleman from my last trip into the store. I remember it because he could not have seemed less interested in our conversation (not that this should matter but, without anyone else in the store). From my perspective his attitude could of been described as aloof, snobbish, disinterested, annoyed, or some combination, maybe he was just having a bad day. Cameras are a new thing to me. I've spent time online researching but I've found it helpful to eventually talk to a real person, especially with a spec-rich and expensive product like cameras. Anyway, the woman helped me. After I had had a chance to take a look at a few cameras I thanked her, said goodbye, and proceeded towards the front door when I got distracted by a rotating book shelf. While looking at a couple books I overheard the two employees making fun of me based on my last trip into the store. Based on my last experience it did not surprise me that the dialogue was created by the gentleman. I've never experienced that before. I'm aware that retail employees make fun of customers but don't they have the savvy to do that off the floor, or over beers or something? It seems to me, and mind you that I'm relatively new to photography, that camera manufacturers drive pricing/sales. So, when I consider whether or not I am going to support a local franchise or shop online through B&H/Adorama/etc it's going to come down to customer service. I attended the recent Owl photoshoot, by Mike's Camera and Hawkquest, in Lakewood, CO. It was tremendous! Well organized, with excellent attention to where the birds were placed to provide access to them in a natural setting. The staff working the event was knowledgeable and helpful, without being intrusive or overbearing. The team from Hawkquest was also excellent, keeping the birds calm and comfortable and ensuring their safety. This is the third 'class' I've taken from Mike's, and they have been consistently excellent. I should also say that the stores are well-stocked with competent, knowledgeable staff, good prices, and all-around great support. read more

I went to have a photo copied - they said they couldn't do it that day but it would be ready today. Not ready when I went to pick it up. Can't do it until tomorrow. Really one photo? They can't find my photo that I left yesterday for a while and then are not sure that it is not the copy. But I was sure. Three people helping one lady and one incompetent person that doesn't even know the photos are filed alphabetically and that Y is at the end not the beginning of the alphabet. Finally got a refund - but that is more than 1/2 hour of my life I will never get back. read more

I came in here twice within the past two days and had not very good experiences. The first day I came in to get film for my new vintage camera and had no problems recieving the right rolls. I am fairly new to photography and needed help putting the film in correctly. It took two different associates to help me to do just that, then I went on my way taking photos. The next day I came in to develop the same roll they had helped me put in the day prior and waited patiently for the hour as the associate had told me it would take that long. I came back in to pick up my prints and the girl told me the roll never ended up being exposed, even though it was the manager and different associate who put it in there on the first place. I am very very angry that a professional camera store could not correctly help me set up my camera. Also they never offered me any compensation or help after telling the associate today my issue, which is very disappointing. I will not be returning to this particular store read more

We came here with so many questions. We started with the general 'I'm interested in a camera" stuff. It probably makes a huge difference who you talk to, but our guy wasn't as helpful as I would have liked. He was friendly, but he seemed very biased towards a specific brand (sony). He pretty much only showed us cameras from that brand.. And seemed to evade some of my questions. I'm not sure if he didn't know the answer or if he didn't want to answer them. When I inquired about a cannon, it never left the glass case. Instead something else was brought out. I understand he has his own preferences, but we were never given the opportunity to really compare cameras. We were also only shown the "in-betweeners" and it would have been nice to have some dslrs into the mix to compare. Feeling unsatisfied and still hungry for answers, we ended up sitting in the parking lot looking up other camera stores for about 15 minutes. I went in yesterday to purchase an extra battery and memory cards for my older camera before vacation. I got home, ripped open all of the packaging and went to put the battery and card in the camera. Upon inspecting the camera i noticed that it was totally trashed after my dog got the case off of the coffee table a week earlier. His chewing cracked the screen and made the lens nearly inoperable. I went back into mikes and they were totally cool about letting me return the battery since none of the newer cameras took that battery anymore even though i shredded the packaging. I purchased a new and better camera for a great price that was cheaper than the camera i bought 5 years ago. I feel i got a better deal than i could have gotten at a big box store. Jeremy was the associate that helped me and was patient and helpful both times i was in. They went above and beyond and catered to me when the entire situation was my fault. I am a novice and appreciated the patience toward me when all i was buying was a travel point and shoot camera. With every camera purchase you get free prints, a printed photo book, an enlarged photo and even classes if you want. That was presented to me after i chose to purchase the camera and is probably worth $75-$100 i'm guessing if you had to pay full price. I will absolutely be back for any camera needs i may have in the future. Now i need to get back to scolding the dog. Thank you jeremy. read more

I started with a phone call which he had to call me back about getting a camera from another store, he called back exactly when he said he would. I originally gave Mike's 1 star but am writing another review based on my last visit to pick up my camera. Although they did lose my "order" for my camera to have an repair estimate, both the Asst. Manager and Manager spoke with me and apologized when I came in to pick up my camera. In addition to their apologies, they refunded my pre-payment for the estimate and offered a discount on getting my camera fixed. Mistakes happen and I'm glad that they took to the time to acknowledge it and try to make it right. I would likely return to Mike's after my last visit. read more

I decided to buy a high-end Nikon camera locally--just in case something goes wrong...and something DID go wrong (it leaked oil!) after only a few days, and the staff at Mike's were awesome. They simply exchanged it for a new camera. I can't imagine what would've happened if I bought this at B & H. When people ask me what kind of camera they should buy, I always say I have no idea so go to Mike's, get advice and then buy the camera from them!
