Love this place! My husband and I have been here on a couple of occasions and both times, we are amazed how friendly the patrons are and let's not forget the awesome bartender, Sunny. I grew up in this area and have seen this bar numerous times but was hesitant to go in. But dang, was I surprised and now I'm glad we found a place where we can just have a drink, play some pool and relax. One of the first things you'll notice when you walk in is how everyone seems to know each other. It's got a family feel to it. Last night, one lady bought everyone at the bar a round of drinks. I've only seen this in the movies. But no, it didn't stop there, another guy bought my husband and I a couple of drinks because we brought a pizza to share for the bar. Just a great vibe to it and we hope it continues to be that way. I'll also mention that this place has one pool table and dart games. Parking is great since it's on the same lot as Albertsons. There's also parking on the back side of the bar, if that's more convenient. read more

The bartender was rude upon entering. We came to play pool and have a drink. I asked for change so we can play a couple games. She then asked for my ID. So I went back to get my ID. And then she didn't give me the change, but pointed to the change machine on the wall. So after i got my own change we played one game. And then towards the end, the same bartender comes to the pool table in front of everyone and says that we need to buy a drink and can't just come in here to 'play pool.' I've worked as a bartender and waitress in the service industry. This place is tactless. Too bad, because I love dive bars. I feel like they could have a lot of paying customers if they understood how to talk to people. But maybe that's their point. And maybe they only want 'certain kinds' of people in the bar. I've given this place several chances, but it just isn't that great. I've experienced a few different bartenders here. Some great, more, not so much. I've never seen so much Google searching when ordering a drink to figure out how to make it. Or ask me how it's made. The vibe is what I would call depressing. There have been a couple of times where there were more than 5 people their and it was somewhat fun. The majority of the time, it's just dark, empty, and depressing. TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE! AVOID MIKE'S SHITHOLE! My wife and I decided to stop by after our lunch to play pool and unwind. We set up the pool table ($1 per game) when the barmaid approached us, without greeting us, to ask what we would drink. We said we would probably order later since we had had lunch and drinks not long before. We were told we HAD to drink to stay and play pool. The rule wasnt displayed anywhere but my wife decided to order a beer so as we could stay. I wasnt thirsty to I said we would share it. The barmaid rolled her eyes and left. 10 minutes after, we were still waiting for our beer when the place wasnt even busy at 2pm on a Friday. The assistant manager showed up and we had the opportunity to talk. She was more polite than the barmaid but didnt provide any solution. I understand some people in that area may enter to use the bathroom or watch TV for free but we clearly were paying to play pool, which requires no service and is basically free money for a bar...Never had the issue anywhere else when paying to play pool...I suggested to at least put a sign to let people know about the rules, and was ignored. read more

Mike's is awesome! Its a little unassuming from the outside but when you walk inside it's much bigger than you would think. Apparently they have been there for 60 years and they have a very loyal clientele that consist largely of retired military and/or law enforcement personnel. The bartenders were awesome and so were the prices. A pool table and darts area in the back. read more

Tried this place out As I just moved to the neighborhood with a couple friends. Middle aged/older crowd (were in our 20s) and met with immediate hostility from both the bartenders and regulars. Was not very welcoming, which became clear when they tried to charge me $11 for a modelo and kicked us out 20 minutes before they closed, while we were in the middle of a game of pool. This place is actually pretty cool if you get Jean as a bartender. She is freakin awesome and will even recommend some really good drinks that are her personal favorites. The reason for the 2 stars, however, is the brunette bartender with an attitude. I don't know her name because I didn't care to find out but if you go you will know. She behaves as if she is God's gift to bar tending and has the worst attitude. We asked her for a drink suggestion like we did with Jean and she began to treat us like we were some unworthy alcohol noobs and she was an elite alcohol specialist. We came back several times to try and give her a second chance or to hopefully get Jean as a bartender and unfortunately it was still her and her horrible attitude. Good times at Mike's! Who says the nightlife is lacking in Spring Valley! I haven't lived in Spring Valley for too long, and I definitely hadn't ventured out much outside of my house, but one night we said "why not"?!?! This is your typical neighborhood bar, and it seems most everybody knows each other. But it's not unwelcoming at all, and the bartender is the sweetest. On Friday and Saturday nights they have Karaoke. Karaoke in the past would have never been what draws me into a place, but last time we were there, I sang Karaoke for the first time, and I must say I might be a little addicted. Okay, there are no beers on tap and it's cash only (yeah, it's classy that way), but seriously, you can't beat a bucket of 4 "non-premium" beers for $10 ("premium" is $12). You can't! The place is clean, there is a pool table in the back and an ATM and there is a jukebox with an okay selection of music. BTW, if you are so inclined, you could also go while you do your laundry at the Laundromat a couple doors down. I'm not going to confirm or deny that I have done this, but if you have to go wash all your blankets/comforters, I don't see anything wrong with this. Jus' sayin'. read more

This place is a super fun dive. I wish more people would check it out because it can be REALLY fun when there are more people. There's one pool table, a small dance floor and kareoke... It's moderately maintained, better for jeans and flip flops kind of night. Don't bother to dress up. This place is located in a strip mall between a clothing store and a bank. The whole strip is anchored by an albertson's. Having said that, what type of bar do you think this is gonna be? I have only stopped in occasionally on my way home from someplace else. It's not the type of place I call my palls and say, "hey, meet me at Mike's". Why not? It's super dead. Most times I've walked in there might be 2-3 other people in there, including the bartender. Those that are there are regulars. I've never had a bad experience. The bartenders are nice, the drinks are stiff and the price is cheap. It's just a little slow. Occasionally I've walked into a crowd, but that was new years eve and memorial last year. It's a neighborhood pub, and if it wasn't in my neighborhood, I wouldn't make a special trip to hang out there. read more

Extremely poor service by both bartender, Ziri and Dawn, bar manager. Within 2 minutes of stepping inside Ziri comes over to the pool table and tells us with an attitude that we must buy a drink in order to play pool. I said does it have to be alcoholic or can it just be a sparkling water? She said it had to be a drink (so i guess only alcohol is allowed). I said okay fine just give me a bud light (and she decided to never bring it). I was not happy to hear this demand before ever being greeted. I felt very attacked because she was very unpleasant. After our pool game and without a beer (as it never arrived) we decided to leave. I did feel the need to tell the owner's of the bad service we received so I asked her for their information which she didn't give me. She told me to wait for Dawn, who is the manager, who "stepped outside for a bit". I was very uncomfortable to stay in that environment. I told her I didn't appreciate her attitude and a customer (who was clearly very drunk) told us to stop shouting at her, i never even rose my voice. She should've cut him off a long time ago but since all they care about is money I guess they let everyone get plastered! Finally Dawn arrived and told us Ziri was right to ask us to buy drinks bc it's a business. I told her there is a way to ask customers to purchase drinks and that is not demanding it from them. Overall, the experience was bad, the service was bad, I never even got my beer I ordered after more than 10 minutes. Please save your time and money and go somewhere it's deserved! read more

A dusty karaoke system that plays only CD's stands lonely next the pool tables. A really good deal is the Modelo Michelada Tallboy can for $4. I myself, a friend and our 75 year uncle went down there to have a few beers and visit . We were not sure about this place but it was close by. When we walked in we were treated with great service, and free munchies, and not to mention a sale on domesitc beer all night long. The crowd was not to loud, and the juke box was just right.
