I brought in my boots for custom work, and the results were sloppy and careless. The buckle was installed backwards, rivets were misaligned, scroll plates were crooked, and he even placed hardware in the wrong spots after I clearly explained what I wanted. When I pointed out these mistakes, instead of owning up and fixing them, he got angry, rude, and even threatened to keep my boots unless I paid him in full. This is not how a professional should treat a paying customer. The work was overpriced, the attitude was hostile, and the customer service was completely unacceptable. I left feeling disrespected and regretful that I ever trusted this shop with my boots. I would strongly caution anyone considering this place -- poor craftsmanship, poor communication, and an unprofessional attitude. Avoid this tailor if you value respect and quality. I've had two bad experiences here, and both showed a clear pattern of shortcuts and dismissiveness. When I came to pick up pants I had already paid for, they couldn't find them right away. Instead of resolving the issue, they ignored me and helped every new customer who walked in. I was left standing there until the shop emptied. Disrespectful and unacceptable. (this is about the tailor specifically) I also brought in pants with an old zipper that needed replacing. Instead of doing the obvious repair, he reattached the same worn piece. Of course, it broke the first time I wore them. When I brought them back, I was told the problem was "my hips", an insulting attempt to shift blame. To make it worse, he suggested I go buy my own beige zipper for him to use because it was a rare color to find. At a tailor shop, that's absurd. It was clear he didn't want to fix the issue and was trying to get out of doing the work properly. This isn't a one-off -- other reviews mention the same rudeness and shortcuts from the tailor, not the dry cleaner. Unfortunately, now I'm out another $25 to pay a different tailor to repair the pants correctly. I've been getting clothes altered, and bringing expensive leather, suede and shearling here for maintenance, for years. Mike and his team are kind and honest. They've revitalized many a rundown piece of mine, with quick turnaround time always. Most recently, I brought in a leather jacket with a busted zipper plus two pair of scuffed, early 2000s Prada boots. When I came in to pick up one week later, Mike had brought a beautiful luster back to the boots, resoling one pair. The jacket was fixed. True to his word, Mike figured out how to get my stilted zipper working again, smooth as a lick. I am someone who rarely posts reviews, but I have to in this case. I have never had someone treat a customer the way I was just treated by Mike. I take four pairs of designer jeans to be hemmed by him (he had previously done an adequate job on a suit jacket on a rush basis, so despite the higher prices I felt like this was someone I could trust with my tailoring needs). After he marked my jeans at the hem line he asked me to return a few days later to pick them up. When I did, it was late at night so I left the shop without trying them on. What I discovered when I got home was some bastardization of the hem line where he essentially cut the jeans and then folded them back to create a bizarre looking secondary hem. While the length was good, I noticed they flapped around while I walked (similar to bellbottoms on a man) and didn't sit right on my shoes - in both cases because the original hem was gone. In a panic, I took them back to Mike the next day (who thankfully still had the hems). After remeasuring and assuring me that he would taper them to fix the bellbottom effect, he then tried to upcharge me $12 (in addition to the original $28 I paid for the "non-original hem line") per pair and then an additional $25 per pair to taper the jeans - something that was only necessary because he had cut the hemline inappropriately in the first place. I'm someone who cares a lot about my jeans and how they look and have been getting them hemmed for years. I have NEVER seen anyone hem jeans without reattaching the original hem correctly (how else would you get that faded look on the hem and have the jeans fall appropriately over your shoes/sneakers?) So, while $65/pair is a high price, it's not something that I would necessarily be unwilling to pay for a good job on the FIRST TIME. However, when I asked if he could comp the original hem charge as this was my original expectation of the work to be done, he flipped out and said it was unavoidable as he now "had to do double the work" - notably this work was only necessary because he mishandled the pants in the first place. After this - we both got at heated at his shop and I eventually had to pry the jeans back in addition to the loose original hems, so I can now take them to an actual tailor (please note - he rejected my request for a refund for the original work as well). This is possibly the WORST customer experience I have ever had ANYWHERE and as I promised him when I left his shop, I am now letting other people know by leaving this review. DO NOT GO TO MIKE! read more

Not only did Mike make two pairs of pants too short totaling $500, when I came back asking to fix it he offered no solution and refused to refund me. He said I can't refund you because I did what you asked and provided the requested service. However, obviously that's not the case when he turned my pants into capri pants which I did not ask for. Mike still refused a refund for the tailoring or replacement cost for the pants that were ruined. Lo and behold I take the pants to a new tailor and they confirm that Mike actually had tapered the leg of my pants which I did not ask for this contrary to his response, these are long flowy pants that should not be tapered (and of course they are not meant to be capri pants either). What's even worse is as a solution, Mike suggested I order new Vince pants and said he'd switch the tags for me so I could get my money back and sneakily return already hemmed pants. I respond asking , so you made a mistake you want to hurt other businesses as a result? He then denied ever saying this. It's okay to make mistakes but it's not okay to not hold yourself accountable, gaslight the customer, try to hurt another business, and invalidate their concerns (and yes I lost $500 on pants and $120 on tailoring because of him which was already way over priced). I will not be going back to the business not because they made a mistake but because they lack integrity as a business. read more

I can't say enough amazing things about Mike. I took my 16Arlington dress that I got as a second dress for my wedding into Mikes shop to get the bodice taken in as it was probably two sizes too large for me. It's a fairly pricey dress on its own, so I wanted to make sure it would be well taken care of. I walked in with my dress and Mike immediately had me go to the back, try it on, and started pinning it to the perfect size. He was kind, professional, and you can tell he really puts a lot of care and attention into his craft. After he was done pinning, he told me it would be done in about two weeks. I was in and out in about 15 minutes. Fast forward to two weeks later, my dress was completely finished on time and fit like a glove. He had me try it on to make sure it was perfect before I left (which of course it was!) I've already recommended Mike to all of my friends and coworkers who have been having trouble finding a good, reliable, and price fair alterations specialist. I would not recommend this place for any serious / expert level alterations. I came to shorten the sleeves of a suit jacket that had 4 functioning buttons at the cuff. The tailor tells me no problem, it'll be done in a week and at $60 I have since learned that preserving the buttons of a design like this requires the tailor to shorten the sleeve from the top end (shoulder), not from the bottom (wrist/cuff). It requires a bit more skill and effort than shortening a sleeve without buttons. However it didn't seem this extra challenge or "right" way to do it even occurred to the tailor (or me at the time) When I came to pick up, they were busy. I asked if I should check the alterations before leaving, they said i shouldn't have any problems but if I did I could always come back I got home and realized the sleeve had been modified to basically just cut off the sleeve between buttons #2 and #3 (4 buttons total). I thought this was a pretty fundamental change to the design of a fairly nice/expensive jacket that at least should have been run by me before executing .. After this I realized I needed a proper expert and did not bother going back to Mike's. I was able to find a different tailor (Ardian in the West Village) who thankfully was able to "undo" the damage and shorten the sleeve correctly from the shoulder. They seem like nice, hard working people at Mike's but wanted to share this review for anyone else who may be needing more expert alterations. read more

They say 1 of the 10 Professionals a Well Dressed Guy needs in his corner is a good tailor! Mike happens to fit that description. I am not sure why I have waited so long to write a review for the BEST tailor in New York City but here we go: Myself, friends, and family have been taking suits, pants, shirts, jackets, coats and shoes etc. to Mike to be altered,shined and/or dry cleaned for as long as I can remember. To put my support in perspective, I've known these guys since their store was on the opposite side of Flatbush Avenue. I'm talking about before Barclays Center, Shake Shack, and Woodland were even a thought (in fact Mike was around when Woodland was Royal Video and Silver Spoon was on Flatbush avenue) I personally started stopping by and supporting this small Cleaners & Tailor when I was a senior in High School looking to get my tuxedo tailored. Needless to say, I was the best dressed at prom and was impeccably tailored. Mike did a phenomenal job and his expertise really showed. I also remember the time when my golden retriever chewed the leather off the back of my Allen Edmonds wingtip shoes and Mike was remarkably able to fix them. He went out of his way to find sturdy matching leather and to put the shoe back together. This was a very complex and difficult job. Now, at 30 years old, I look back and and Mike has tailored over 60 suits for me. His is very professional, does high quality work, has unmatched and meticulous attention to detail skills and works with his customers to get the perfect and most comfortable fit they are looking for within his constraints. He is truly a craftsman. In a rush? Mike's turn around time is also lightning quick, another reason why I continue to support him. I have recommended Mike to several of my friends and they all rave about his services. Lastly, the guys over at Mike's Cleaners & Tailors are stand up guys (even teaching me how to polish my own shoes). In today's world, you don't come across honest and genuine humans like these guys.
