I came here on my own maybe against my better judgment but I've always believed that when you're nice to people, they're almost always nice to you also. But when I got to the bar it was almost completely empty with just two other guys drinking. So it was all pretty calm and I had an Ichy (the finest of nevada beers) and chatted with the bartender a bit. She was friendly and told me about the ECV stuff, which I was not familiar with before. read more

Mike's Mine Shaft Bar is a real taste of Nevada, located in the heart of Winnemucca. The owners are super cool people, and the crowd is an arse-kicking mix of miners, bikers, rock-n-rollers, cowboys, and truckers. To the one-star reviewers... Go find yer fun in the San Francisco Bay Area - stay in your safety bubble and launch some more iPhone apps, a'ight? Here's the deal: during the middle of a 9,000 mile six-month cross-country booktour in the Summer and Fall of 2015, my ride (aka the www.Follow.us Bus) broke down in Winnemucca, leaving me "stuck" for three days. The community I discovered in and around "Mike's Mine Shaft" created friendships that I'll keep for LIFE. Here's my take on Mike's place -- this joint is a 24-hour community center and emergency walk-in therapy clinic, disguised as a hard-drinking (clothing optional!) pool-hall. During ANY hour of any day you can come in for coffee, liquor, conversation or compassion. In the space of a few minutes you can find new friends, pick a fight, or get a fuck if you treat him/her right. Come in for an hour or stay all night (and into the morning and afternoon if you like.) ALL are welcome at Mike's place -- lonely old Cowgirls rub elbows with star-gazing burners; diesel-mechanic cage fighters cross pool cues with Mexican truck-drivers, and hard-working miners brave the light of day for the short time it takes to come up from the darkness of the earth's bowels to come hide themselves away from the sun for a 48-hour shift of time off to drink and howl and prowl and converse in the dark cave that is "Mike's Mineshaft." Bring attitude and a bad vibe and get a double dose in return. I've heard lots of things about this bar, and you probably will too if you ask around. I've been in there twice (that I can remember) and both times the crowd has been pretty slim. There are times of the year, though, where you will find it full of Bikers or Burners. Either way, there's a good chance you will see some extra skin on some of the patrons. The have live fairly regularly. I don't think I've heard of live music being anywhere else in town as often as it is at the Mineshaft. There are a few pool tables and a lot of room. You'll also find TVs running slide shows of photos from past Mineshaft parties. It is just next door to The Martin, so once you're done dinner (and maybe have a few Picon Punches in your system) you should take the short stroll to see what's going on at the Mineshaft. read more

The place to go for a wild night in Winnemucca. This place has a "rough" reputation, but I think it's overstated. In my experiences there, if you treat people with respect, it will be returned. However, if you plan to act like an ass or you can't handle your liquor, you'll probably get punched. An above average selection of bottled beer is available and service has been quick, even on busy nights. The usual patrons here could be described as alternative or liberal. So if you're an accountant or a Glenn Beck fan and too proud of it, you really should go elsewhere for your safety. Theme parties do happen here on occasion. read more

Clothing optional- not for those who have a week stomach you may end up scarred for life. Not for amateurs either this isn't a place you want to get trashed in. If you get cut off in this place that's your Que to leave. The shaft has a nasty reputation and I think its gotten out of control. Basically if your going out looking for trouble the shaft may be the place to go. But that doesn't mean you should fear the shaft. You will be treated as you treat others. So have respect, tip the bartenders, and don't bring drama. You'll be alright read more

Recently visited the mine shaft this year on labor day weekend, and my first impression of the place was what is my brown-A$$ doing in a joint like this, me and my friends grabbed a beer at the bar and slowly started to take the place in. The other patrons didn't look intimidating but definitely weary of our presence. I go to the bar and drink my beer and a scruffy gentleman asked if me and my compadre's where cops or bikers, I just told him were just bikers and then he continued on about his business consuming whatever it was in that Tylenol bottle, his lady friend who was in a sundress and looked like her breast were about to plop out asked who do we ride with and I told her solo, I think she was under the impression that me and my friends were part of an MC. But looking around the place the bartender was pretty and very attentive to our orders, there was this young blonde who I thought was a patron since she was sitting at the bar with her tongue down the throat of this aging gentleman but as soon as she got done tongue wrestling she want behind the bar to serve him some drinks. This place has some colorful people and definitely bucket list material. my Hats off to the employees and patrons of Mike's Mine shaft, only regret is that we didn't get to see anyone dance on the pole. read more
