New ownership= slower service, took about 25 min from order to food in hand. The cheesesteak I got was called The Godfather, Cooper sharp, ribeye, onions. On the menu photo it looked huge. 15$ cheesesteak. Come to find out, they only make that in a small after i paid for it, so kind of false advertising if you ask me. With that said, steak sandwich was pretty damn solid. But for 15$ I'd go to Tonys in West reading, or even V and S on 5th street. read more

I've ate here a lot before new ownership took over ,decided since I was back in the area a few weeks ago to stop and get a cheesesteak.ordered ahead and got there before my sandwich was even started ,no big deal .watched them pull half cooked steak out of a container and heat it and melt cheese on it on the flat top.got home,short drive 15 min steak was gristly,and the roll was def not fresh at all.very bad!with all the sandwich shops around I have to say I won't be going out of my way for one here again! On top of that I had made this same review on their facebook page and they since deleted it and blocked me from their social media! We have been going to Mike's for over 20 years. Since the new owners took over the service and food has changed greatly. Its atmosphere is cold and is unfriendly and the food isn't as tasty. We gave it another chance and it wasn't any better. read more

Had not been to Mike's in a long while as there were better options. The last few times here pre-pandemic were kind of blah. Found out they were under new ownership and decided to retry as they have been advertising more. Food was way better than my past experiences. Red Knight cheesesteak was great unlike my past experiences with dry cheesesteaks there. I can say it's the best I've had from Mike's. Burger was good. Cheese cubes like Shell's. Everything was good. This is my favorite place to grab a sandwich in Reading, period. It's a combination of the sandwiches, the fries that are made when you order them, the hard AND soft rolls, and the prices. One last thing: you are going to be served on paper plates and the crowd is generally locals who all work for a living. If you want a fancy presentation or chain food, you won't find it here. I graduated from Wilson in '93. Way back in the day we used to have open lunch and we'd goto Mike's about once a week. Out of ALL the places that I revisited on my last trip to Reading, this place still has been doing it right all this time. My favorite Chinese place was utter crap, my favorite pizza place was closed for renovations, but this place looked exactly the same and "the thing" which I always used to get back then was straight up the best cheesesteak I've ever had in my life. I highly recommend this place. My friend and I drove from Washington, DC to Reading, PA so he could pick up a car he bought. The car needed work so we spent a few hours in Reading. M. Night Shyamalan kicked us out of The Pagoda so we ate Philly cheese steaks at Mike's. I've been to Philly and had the real deal and I have to say I was very impressed with Mike's. Me and my daughter order 2 cheese steaks and a order hot wings. I order fried onions, hot peppers and extra cheese. This was the worst cheese steak I every ate. There was no fry onions in the steaks and all the cheese was at the bottom of the roll not in the meat. Also the wings were hard just with hot sauce throw on them. First time in Reading PA so I decided to skip the Subway and Wawa and try some local fare. Had to do a u-turn to park as Mikes is on a city street and parking can be a challenge. I was not disappointed. Very good Sandwich. I really liked the old school style of the shop too. Stools, counter and a very 1970s feel to it. The woman making my Sandwich made a mistake and quickly corrected it. Plenty of meat and cheese and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Grabbed an iced tea from the cooler and it was cold and tasty. If you want to try some local food try Mikes Sandwich shop. By the way. I'm eating healthy so I got turkey but their cheese steaks looked amazing! Enjoy. read more
