Had a very nice meal here! The ambiance and service at Milano was great! The pizza was delicious and fresh. If in their area worth going for a classic artisan pizza meal.

Calabrese Pizza - "back by popular demand"
    David T.

Looking for a place with no wait after a stroll to Ross Castle, I popped my head into this place. The ambiance was modern and classy, and it seemed I had barely snatched one of the few remaining open tables. The menu choices are all somewhat pricy. The garlic bread appetizer was a single bread on which I added just a bit too much black pepper; still tasty, but not quite worth the $$. That came quickly enough, but I was left waiting quite a while for the main dish to arrive--the Calabrese pizza which, according to the menu, is "back by popular demand". For the wait, my verdict is: longer than usual, even considering the circumstances (two families that ordered after I did were served before me; one even finished before my pizza arrived... did they forget my order?). So, the Calabrese pizza. I was a bit taken aback by the polarized reviews here (in general), but I ended up deciding on this pizza because it wasn't a familiar pizza type that I might judge based on preconceptions. I decided that an unfamiliar pizza would allow me to consider it based on its own merits. The initial spicy kick hits pretty hard followed by a slightly sweet follow-up, and then... salty, like, pretty salty. I liked the combination, but they could have toned down the last bit. The arugula (rocket) and pesto topping is a nice addition that complements the meat nicely. The mozzarella could have been more stringy/stretchy, but that might have been because of the wait. At the end of the meal, the check came in a timely manner.

    American pizza and mixed salad.

Sorry folks, but we tested the basic American Pepperoni pizza and their mixed salad. If you want a thin crust, they charge an additional E2, (2 Euro), same amount of dough, just spread out bigger. Unbelievable, but true. The pepperoni was more on the salty side and 1/2 the size of our standard pepperoni slices. The pizza cost $14.40E ($15.85) and is about the size of a small pizza. We've had pizza from Italy, New York, Chicago and San Francisco that were truly mouthwatering great. Still dream about some of those, they were that good. We were truly disappointed since the Yelp reviews raved about the pizza here. Don't waste your money. It was barely fair in taste, not something I would look forward to having again. The salad was the only thing we enjoyed. The house dressing was light and flavorful. We kept it simple so we wouldn't be swayed with various flavors. Not recommended.

    Leggaro Superfood Salad with Chicken

My boyfriend and I were in search of some dinner while staying our one night in Killarney. We were going to go to a pub of sorts but apparently they weren't cooking any food that day so we had to find a plan B. So, we spotted Milano and decided to try it. I saw a salad on the menu posted out the window and got super excited because I haven't eaten like anything healthy this vacation. Atmosphere: Italian restaurant feel but a bit more classy, clean, and modern. Lighting was romantic, dim with candles. Plenty amount of seats. Tables were set nicely - I was a fan of the blue glass water glasses personally. You can see the chef working in the back. You could get dressed up to eat here or you could go casual. Service: Excellent. We were greeted right away with much cheer. Our waiter was funny and acted like he was really passionate about what he was doing and the food they served there. He made good conversation and checked in to see how our food was. The wait for the food was 10-15 minutes. When our food came it was right and he went out of his way to make sure I got my salad dressing on the side after I forgot to tell him. Our bill came in a timely manner. Food: My boyfriend had the Padana Pizza which was goat's cheese, mozzarella, tomato, caramelized onions, spinach, red onion and garlic oil. He said it was good pizza. The goat cheese and caramelized onions really made the pizza. The crust was very crispy and thin but not burnt. Pizza was much larger than expected (which is a good thing). I had the Leggera Superfood Salad with grilled chicken. It was freakin amazing. I have never been so happy to taste green stuff in my life. The base was a mixed salad blend with rocket, with a mix of black rice, edamame beans, red quinoa, mung beans, chickpeas, cranberries, pumpkin seeds and kale in a vinaigrette, plus cucumber, roasted red & yellow peppers, red onion and fresh parsley. The dressing was a light house dressing that was delicious. Everything blended together so well. The roasted peppers in particular stuck out to me and the dressing really made everything complete. The menu states that the salad is under 500 calories too (without the chicken) which is crazy because the salad was big and filling. It was also beautiful as far as presentation too. Cost: A little on the pricey side but you get gigantic portions, so you are really getting your money's worth. Most entrees, pizzas, and salads are somewhere around $15.00. Absolutely worth it. I would totally recommend going. Our tour moves to Galaway tomorrow and there is one there so who knows maybe we will go there again for dinner!

    Dough balls

Milano's pizza was a great break from eating traditional Irish food on our vacation. There were about a dozen wines to choose from, served in different amounts. The baked dough balls were an excellent appetizer, served with a tiny bowl of butter. We tried a Romano-style pizza, which is "a bigger, thinner, crispier pizza, inspired by pizza from Rome." We got the Pollo ad Astra pizza, which was pretty good. The service was okay - it ended up taking a while for us to get our bill.

Superfood salad with salmon. So good!

Pizza was fantastic. Salad also super fantastic. Best salad I've had in Ireland. Very the superfood salad with your choice of meat if you desire. Service was on the slow side however.

We arrived late in the evening but they still took us. Food was great, service was friendly and we didn't feel rushed despite arriving late. Great bustle about the place even on Monday night. It's a chain but feels like the team take pride in what they do here. Well done guys :)).

The pizza was very average but I felt like there was too much pepper on top of it. I would still recommend though.

The antipasto is very tasty and highly recommended. The frutta di mare dish was alittle disappointing it lacked flavor and the prawns and mussels were small, considering it was the highest cost item on the menu they can use larger ingredients. We had a group of 12 and the place was not that busy during dinner, we asked the waitress if the chef can come out and see us so we could complement some of his dishes and she comes back saying we can stop by the kitchen on our way out! Really! We probably spent the most money that evening. Sounds like the owner chef needs some training in restaurant hospitality and the waitress lost an opportunity for a 20% tip. This is what happens when tips are not part of their compensation in Ireland. Anyway good food for sure.

Cronins sits on a Main Street through Killarney and feels like old world Ireland from the road to the table. It has a storied past in Killarney, being open over 60 years at this point. The space is as you would expect, cozy, local and welcoming. The menu is rooted in local ingredients including seafood, beef and veggies. We popped in for an early dinner and had an appetizer of the Smoked Irish Salmon, which was fresher than expected. Such a simple dish, but it was executed perfectly. For our mains, we had a burger and the Shepard's Pie. Burger was good. It was juicy, well cooked and the onion relish thing they had going on was *chefs kiss*. The Shepard's Pie was spot on. Both were made with local beef, which was cool and extra tasty! Beyond the food, Cronins also has their own cider, which was phenomenal and oddly enough, the only cider I had the whole time I was in Ireland! That speaks more to the hold Guinness had on me and less to the variety of cider. After the cider, we went with a few house cocktails including the Clover Club and Dingle Donkey. Both were well prepared, vibrant and tasty! Service was uniquely local, friendly and fun! From the bartender to our server, they were both excellent! Overall, Cronins is a stellar spot in a great spot in Killarney! When we get back over the pond and to Killarney, Cronins is on the list to swing by again!

I had a cosmo which I feel was out the bottle, way too sweet for being freshly made, not that great but having had a 5 hour drive it went down nicely. Then onto the starters, Alex had the mussels and begin I the baked Brie. The Brie was lovely and perfectly complemented by the cranberry sauce - the cheese literally burst out of its crunchy shell once cut into which I loved. I also tried the mussels, the sauce was rich and tomato-y but the dish wasn't warm enough which made me a tad nervous. Huge portions though! Next to the mains, this is where if I could, I would give it a 3.5. The lam shank was topped with onions and a thin gravy and then cooked in pasty = lamb shank meets beef Wellington. It was great, the lamb fell off the bone and it was really well cooked and juicy meat. Served on a bed of creamy mash and fresh veg. The veg was slightly under cooked sadly but the rest of the dish, fantastic! I tried some of Alex's ham hock and that too was great. Really flavoursome and soft meat - if, however, your not a big fan of Dijon mustard I wouldn't recommend as it's literally covered in it!
