On Tuesday, September 30, 2025, I came in to see Isabel at the Hillside European Wax Center. She had no idea at first what I was going through -- I had just experienced the unimaginable loss of my mommy, sister, and brother-in-law in a tragic murder-suicide that happened right in the community where she lives. During my appointment, I received a chin wax, eyebrow wax, and tint in preparation for the funeral for my mother and sister on October 4, 2025. I broke down crying as I shared what had happened, and in that moment, Isabel showed me a level of kindness and compassion that went far beyond anything expected in her profession. At the end of my visit, Isabel gave me what I believe was the amount she had earned in tips that day to help me in any way she could. It was an act of pure selflessness -- something I will never forget. In a world where genuine compassion can be hard to find, Isabel's actions reminded me that there are still truly good-hearted people out there. It's been nearly 6 months since it was removed, and it has only grown back about 2/3 of the way. With any luck I'll have a full toenail by the end of sandal season this year.
