Steve's new store on Sainte-Catherine is a must for every musician in Montreal area, they don't…read morehave any choice as Palais des congrès ( Congress house) ask them to moved as they are rule by government it was move or die choice. so after being on sainte-Antoine street (old Montreal) since 1965 ! They moved to downtown last summer. Their store is in a nice spot in front of bar Foufounes Électriques on main street ( Sainte-Catherine) and inside they have less space but everything is nicely placed (unlike the old store were everything was place in a spot wherever they can put it. And they have a nice stage were they want to put live artist and it should be really interesting new idea in future. After the owner died (Steve Kirkland RIP), his son want to keep it going. I will see if they can survive in this new era were most peoples buy used in Canada as most new music gear is overprice cause of USA currency over CND dollar. But this is the the ultimate music store in Montreal, the only thing is that they don't do exchange (old guitar for an new one) unlike lots of stores in the province, so maybe it can be a new thing that can make them earn more profits if they change it. When i was younger salesmen were rude, but now they are super friendly ( maybe it's because older peoples have more money than younger ones but i think that they should take care more of their customers. But now they're friendly and competent. This place was the place were any Montreal musicians went to buy gears. In their old store they have a wall full of pictures with autograph pix with well known musicians like Aldo Nova, April wine, Frank Marino, Voi Vod, Simple Plans etc. So if you want to go to the Montreal best music Store you'll find the place. Long live Steve's ! Long vie à Steve's music !

Toby and his team are the most knowledgeable, professional and capable guitar techs in the city…read more I've trusted them to setup several of my guitars, electrics and acoustics, over the last few years. They do a stellar job every time. Most recently, I had to bring a new Martin OM28 in for a repair because the high E string was too close to the edge of the fretboard (such that if I did a downward pull-off, the string would roll off the crowned edge of the frets, killing those notes). Toby immediately spotted that the nut slots were improperly spaced (which was kind of disappointing for a brand new Martin, but at least Martin covered the repair). The repair and setup was done PERFECTLY! I couldn't believe what a difference it made...to the point, I felt compelled to email Toby to thank him and to post this review (something I never do). Montreal guitarists need to know about this place. They are the authorized service center for all the big name brands (including Martin, Taylor, Fender and Gibson). Yes, they unfortunately have a two month waiting period at the present time, but that's only because they have a stellar rep. But not to worry, you don't have to be without your guitar during that period. Just contact them to make an appointment and reserve your spot. Then they'll contact you when it's time to bring your guitar in and it will be ready for pickup within a week for simple repairs or setups. All I can say is that it's well worth the wait! If you want your guitar to play and sound its best, do yourself a favor and take it to Montreal Guitar. Thanks Toby and gang! You have a loyal customer for life (for the record, I am not affiliated with Montreal Guitar in any way...I'm just a very happy customer who wants to spread the word to my fellow Montreal guitarists). Happy picking!

The staff is knowledgeable and helpful. It's a family owned business and the owners are part of the team. The repair technicians are first rate. They have a huge selection of wind instruments at all price points ranging from some second hand ones for a few hundred dollars to ones that rivalled the price of a small car... There is also a small selection of other instruments like guitars, drum kits, and keyboards, but clearly brass and wood winds are their forte here. Service was wonderful, the sales lady took the time to bring out several models at various price points and explained the pros and cons of each. There wasn't really any attempt to upsell us on a higher end model. They have sound proof practice rooms and my daughter got to try out all the different models on her own. We left with a shiny new trumpet that was within our budget, very happy with the service and our purchase.

Long and Mcguade is a music store founded by Jack Long in Toronto in 1957…read more Jack Long was a professional trumpet player who decided to sells instruments to his friends. And it was his bussiness partner Jack Mcguade (who is a drummer)who gave lessons in the same building. However their association last until 1965, but Jack Long kept the name and continue his musical bussiness and the rest made history as Canada's largest chain of music retailer. What's good about this store is that not only they sells all the big brand like Fender, Gibson, Marshall, tama etc. They also take you old instruments and give you credit so you can buy better ones. And unlike Steve's music the service is good you don't have to chase a salemen to try a gtr ! Recently i bought an amplifier from Laval store amplifier had doesnt work good, and they order another one from Markam store for me, and i was able to have it one week later like they said. So they try to satisfy their customers and with so many stores it's easier. I think their next moves should be to open a big store neir dowtomn Montreal. As their ahuntsic store is very small. I think they prefer to have stores in suburb like Laval and Longueuil stores. I recommand it if you want to change your guitar or bass for a better one you can exchange it and with extra cash acquire a better one.

Nothing is better. When I returned an item last week that didn't fit my needs I was shocked that the employee would rather refund me then give me a store credit! How cool is that? They really go out of their way to make you feel important. Simon the guitar technician fixed a fret issue that was plaguing a guitar and refused that I pay since it didnt take him long. Thanks Simon.you rock. Biaggio (hope I spelled it right!) and Daniel are by far the friendliest musicians/sales advisors I've ever met. They actually ARE musician, Daniel plays with TheBox! I used to go to Steve's downtown or italmelodie and used to be that I would walk in and the crew there would make me feel like I was wasting their time or wasnt worth the extra effort needed to adress my questions. Or most of the time would ignore me. I've spent thousands now at the Laval store of Long & Mc Quade and will continue to do so as long as they keep doing exactly what they do now! I'm going in this morning for an Orange 30W tube head, I know I'll be welcomed by name and not with looks of "oh no what the hell does this guy want again". Don't take my word for it, go check out the store and admire everything laid out for you to try before you buy, their wall of guitars is something to behold! Tell em Ray Malone sent ya! Cheers!
