I've always wanted to learn how to play the guitar - since High School. The question of what guitar to buy was a difficult one. I visited several music stores in Haymarket, Gainesville, and Warrenton, VA in my quest to find the right guitar. I had decided I did not want to spend a lot - I was thinking I wanted an entry level acoustic guitar - something in the $200-$300 range. What I found was a bunch of mass-produced, factory-line, made in China guitars, all of which felt soul-less to me. The whole point of my doing this was to heal, and somehow "mass-produced" and "Made in China" was not going to fit the bill. I happened to visit Drum & Strum Music in Warrenton, VA and met Tim Dingus the store owner. I explained I was looking for my first guitar, the price range I was considering and such. Tim advised me at that price point, I would be getting "Made in China." Then he showed me a guitar NOT made in China, but rather made in Canada. Art & Lutherie Guitars. Each guitar is hand crafted. I signed a lease with my band and put my drums in a room. One day, my band decided to change music…read moredirection to something with more synth and less drum-heavy. So, they wanted to part ways with me, and as part of that, wanted me to move my drums out of the room. That would have been perfectly fine if they respectfully had asked me to leave, but that's not what happened. What really happened is they went to the management of this studio and asked them to change the lock combinations to prevent me from accessing the room with my belongings (despite us being on good terms before that). A respectable studio would have not accepted such a request given that my name was on the lease and I had full right to access my equipment. They would have asked me to simply come pick up my drums. What happened is I lost access to my own belongings despite having my name on the lease. This is theft, let alone obviously very disrespectful to me as a customer! And, I didn't hear back from the band about when exactly I could pick up my drums for a while, so I contacted the studio management to help me move my drums out since I am on the lease and have the right to my belongings, which oughta be respected. I didn't hear back for 2 days, telling me they could not help me get my equipment, which is again considered theft. Fortunately, my band members eventually got back to me, and I got my drums out of the space. Long story short. The place discriminates against their customers. They respect some of them while not respecting others despite being on the lease. A place with this kind of discrimination is unethical, and you cannot trust it with your belongings. Your items could get stolen as a result of this, and you will not receive respectful treatment if in their discrimination, they decide you don't deserve respectful treatment. Even if I was respected at this place, if I heard a story like this, I would pull all my items out in a heart beat and never rent any room there. A place with that kind of untrustworthy service should not be in business, and places like this go out of business all the time.
