They made a cake for me and delivered. The cake was decent and was delivered in time. I am giving them 2 stars because of a huge lack of communication and not following through to the directions I provided. I wanted a designed custom cake and I provided them with photos and examples. I wanted to have a conversation about what they might be able to accomplish, and what might be too hard to do. But they would take 2 days to respond to every email. I wanted a finalized idea of what the cake will be like, but they just sent it out without confirming the details. At the end, the cake didn't turn out the way I wanted. I believe they can do a good job, but they're over booked. At the end I asked for a photo of my cake and they said they're busy so they will send it later in the day, but it's been 3 days and I still haven't received the photo. I of course got it from the people I sent the cake to. Over all, I think they should improve their communication as that is what makes everything stress free and more of what a customer wants. read more

I wanted to love Milettes. I had heard so many great things about the Cakes I decided to give them a try for my daughters first birthday. I called and never got an answer, so I decided to email. I got a response and after some really confusing email exchanges I ordered an egg free smash cake. The lack of consistency in the emails should have been enough for me to not order but I really wanted a cute cake for my daughter so I went through with it anyways. I was first told an egg free smash cake for my daughter would be $20. Then when I decided not to get the big cake it increased to $25. Fine, what's $5 in the long run. I also ordered a fondant cheetah with leaves for $28, bringing my total to $53. I paid the $20 deposit and ordered my cake. This was in mid May. Fast forward to the week of my daughters birthday, July 4. I get an email from Milettes stating they'll use buttercream frosting (which was already finalized in May) and that the cake price would be $78 for the cake and $25 for the fondant cheetah. Umm... no. We already finalized the order. I quickly respond with the finalized cake details from May. I then get a call that the person who finalized my order made a mistake and egg free smash cakes are actually usually $45. I tell them no that's not what I agreed upon. They ask if I'll compromise at $35. At this point her birthday is in 5 days... so I do it because I don't have the energy to find a new cake in 4 days. Ok so we pick up the cake for the new price of $35 for the cake and $28 for the Cheetah... the cake looks good. Now for the cake smashing..... 1. The cake is hard as a ROCK. 2. It's gross. Absolutely no flavor. My daughter won't eat it, clearly thinks its gross as well because she eats everything. 3. The cake is like 1/16 cake and the rest is frosting. I didn't pay $35 for a pile of frosting... See picture below of cake cut. Fast forward to July 11... my husband wants to talk to Milettes and figure this out. He calls, no one answers. He goes there. They're closed, fine, he decides he'll try again tomorrow. July 12... he calls, multiple times, no one answers. He goes there. Someone is there. He says he'd like to discuss this cake, which he has with him. The guy makes him wait outside the store. After an hour of waiting... he finally gets to talk to someone. The guy says there is nothing wrong with this cake, it's delicious. He says he will refund the order. Then he backtracks and says oh it taste bad because it's eggless. But a second ago he said nothing was wrong with it?? So finally he refunds the price of just that cake, minus the Cheetah. Needless to say, I will not be ordering from this place again. Their unprofessionalism alone is enough to not order again, but the fact that the cake was inedible really does this place in. read more

I had read about this bakery on Yelp and was impressed by the idea of 3D cakes. I had a special birthday to celebrate and wanted 3D Morel Mushrooms created on top. I ordered the cake over the phone and sent them a picture. They did some research and made an amazing cake! I could NOT be any happier with the result. I live in San Diego but I have a friend who lives in Plainfield. Two times already I ordered over the phone from them and had them deliver my orders to my friend and her family. The first time they delivered donuts to my friend's husband (a cop) after his surgery. They also included a note per my request. My friend's husband and the whole family loved the donuts! Donuts were $.99 each and delivery was $20. Can't complain! Second time was 2 days ago. My friend just had a surgery and mentioned to me she was in pain. Of course I rushed to get her something to make her feel better. This time I ordered cupcakes and asked them to deliver. I paid over the phone, they sent me a copy of my receipt via text, and texted me when the order was delivered. Once again, they included a note with my order (per my request). Cupcakes were $3.50 each, and delivery was $20. I don't know about IL but for San Diego they are reasonably priced. I couldn't have asked for better. I would call them again if I need to get my friend something. My only complaint is that their website is not very well organized and there are no photos of the things they are selling. Probably not a big deal if you are in town but for folks like me crazy to order over the phone their website is a pain. I can't really see what I am ordering. For example, their website doesn't even mention donuts. I figured out over the phone that they made donuts. I ordered without really knowing what I was ordering. I asked them to pick their best sellers. Same with the cupcakes. But oh well... they still did good and my friend loved what they made. Great customer service, great products. She is definitely a master of her crafts. If I could give her 10 stars I would. Cakes are absolutely delicious as well. It's hard to find cakes that are not too sweet and perfect. This is long overdue! Sugarlandia for those with sweet tooth! Definitely one of our favorite places in Plainfield/ West Aurora area. Back in my non-parent days, most of my time out was when Milette's was closed. I'd star longingly, after-hours, at their sweet treats in cases and vowed to stop eventually. Now that a "night out" starts at 5pm, I've been lucky enough to visit Milette's twice. I must caveat that I didn't consume any of the treats, but have bought multiple as gifts. The prices are a little odd to me - $1 for a chocolate chip cookie the size of my head, but $3.25 for a sugar cookie? The cupcakes at $3.25 seemed on-par with competition. The to-go packaging for cupcakes is so convenient and cute! Bonus: visit on a Saturday after 2pm, and everything is BOGO Free. They don't advertise it but I was told this when we visited. I won't take any stars away from it being so far from Chicago, because this is solely a review of Milette's crafts: her cakes and works of art! She has quite the variety, from your basic yellow cake chocolate frosting cupcake, to the exotic ube (taro root.. creamy, purple... just try it!) It's always difficult to choose one, but my personal favorite being the pistachio cake with white chocolate ganache and fresh raspberry filling. The cupcakes I've tried all have this light, buttercream frosting that to me is refreshing and not too sweet. And the cake is always super moist, they're good even when they're cold from the fridge. The presentation on the cupcakes are spot on. Simply gorgeous! However, I was SO disappointed to find that every single cupcake had whipped cream frosting!! I ordered six different varieties and every one had whipped cream frosting. The frosting wasn't even flavored. Even though the chocolate frosting looked like it would taste of chocolate it just tasted of whipped cream. Same for all of them. A bakery should know better that people don't want whipped cream frosting and if they want to offer it don't put it on every single cupcake. To me this was a sign of laziness and being cheap.
