During the 2025 legislative session, I heard bills relating to water safety. (HB1234/SB1223). Neither bill advanced, but their purpose was to address youth drowning, a leading cause of death for children - even here in Hawaiʻi. The testimony was compelling and made our house reflect on what we can do our granddaughter. The instructors are so patient and skilled in teaching the children. To watch her progress over these past few months has been amazing. It's a great opportunity to develop courage and resilience while teaching a necessary skill. read more

PLEASE NOTE - this is NOT a negative review towards the Mililani YMCA, which had always been good to me in the past (and they were great). It is, however, negative feedback to the YMCA system when requesting assistance - it's non- existent. I had been a member of the YMCA several years ago and it was fine. However, due to time constraints and other obligations, I had to stop. I did the gym and very few classes, mostly the small fitness room. In Jan. 2026, I decided I had time to do it again so signed up again. By April 2026, I hadn't set foot into the facility. Zero classes (don't do virtual), never went to the facility. Tried to clear my schedule to see if I could attend, but obstacles kept cropping up so decided I'd quit. I looked on the web and it said email them to let them know that I wanted to cancel. I did that. Not once, but twice. I received a response (obviously a system generated response) saying thank you for the email, may take a few, but we will get back to you. I emailed again (second time) hoping for a response. Guess what - finally get a response! Your account is closed, thank you for being a member, Yasuda-yadda-yadda. All good, right? NOPE, the Y strategically closes the account the same day payment is due. So my membership is closed on the same due I'm hit with a payment. Shady AF - again, never stepped into the facility since I joined in January this time, but yet I'm charged even if I requested to close out nine days prior? It's not a big amount, but I'm closing the charge card to migrate to new Atmos card - it's the principal of the matter. Never doing another membership with the YMCA and no more donations to them either. Done. Pau. Do better because right now, my perspective of the YMCA is very negative. read more

We joined the YMCA Last month primarily to use the weight room and fitness room. My son is 14 years old and I was a little worried that he would be lifting on his own, but there is always an attendant in the weight room so that is a great benefit. I use the fitness room and I like the selection of machines and that the machines are consistently being cleaned. The staff has always been very friendly and I have been enjoying my time at the YMCA. read more

Mililani West Oahu YMCA is all right overall, but the facilities are not as big as other locations I have been to, and yes it is open-air for the most part. There are two smaller fitness centers, one for the cardio equipment and the other for the regular and free weights. Some of the regular weight machines were stationed right outside in the hallway, next to the pickle ball courts. I did not try the showers, as the ground looked rather dated and dirty. On-site parking is very limited, and if that runs out there is the adjacent street. read more

REVIEW ON THE HULA CLASS: My daughter took hula classes for 3 months and she loved it here, but EVERY MONTH the kumu always canceled a weekend due to other hula commitments. I asked YMCA to prorate it, they said they would, but never did. For non YMCA members, we are paying $50 a month, and to be paying that much for classes to be canceled every month is not worth it. For this reason is why we stop coming here. read more

Notified the office staff of the previous school year mix up with my financial assistance documents... surprise, surprise, the ever elusive Brian is on vacation. I have the worst timing! So this year, filled all applications out for club mid/intersession, brought all the necessary documents (same as last year). This time around my information was entered into the computer system right away and processed while I waited. Now my oldest is all set for SY 2019-2020 and everything is paid for, *phew*. I really do appreciate the club mid after school program for the middle schoolers. They have their own bus that picks up students after school, as well as later for kids that have after school activities. Such a life saver for working parents. Crazy times in the parking lot are about 1715-1745 though! Hard to find parking and loading zone is supposed to be off limits so *shrugs *... read more

I had been a member of the YMCA for many years in Washington state. I moved to Hawaii in May 2023 and joined the Mililani YMCA. I have been a regular attendee of the aqua exercise classes at Mililani and the Leeward YMCA. I want to commend Ryoko Ferreira and Kii Kahalewai for their enthusiasm and cheerful attitude at every class. Their music selection really adds to the class experience and makes exercise fun! These instructors make a positive difference in why I will attend classes even though sometimes I would prefer to do other things. I always feel better after a class. I also want to mention lifeguards Jeannie at Leeward and Laura at Mililani who are very personable and I feel that they would keep us safe in the water if the need arises. They have taken good care of me growing up being part of the YMCA for many years in the A+ program, teen program, swim lessons and swim team. They provide great well service and value as well. I highly recommend this place for kids, teens and adults. read more

I was once one of those kiddos in the Summer fun program and now I get to bring my son here to try out the other amenities. I put him in swimming lessons when he was 3 and he always looked forward to once a week practices. It's hard to catch the next sign up time. I usually call when it has already started..partly my fault as I should write this down. The girl would say when to call in, usually around the middle of a certain months..can't sign up in advance. The website doesn't have an updated schedule and sign up time for the next session last I checked. Practices are less than an hour and an instructor works with about 2-3 of the kiddos in the younger class. At the end of the session, they will let you know if your child is ready to move up to the next level. As for the gym, we used to frequent this one a lot as a member. It's a smaller 2 room facility. One room has the cardio treadmill machines and the other is a weight room. I'm not sure if there still is a trainer, but there used to be one walking back and forth between each room and you can ask him questions. We never tried the child care services bc 1. Wasn't sure if we had to pay, I think it was $10 even if you're a member 2. We thought you had to call and reserve your time to drop off 3. The hours didn't really work for the times we would go.. especially Saturday afternoons or late evenings. As for the summer fun program, yes the leaders are high school students or had just gotten out of school so the customer service skills aren't the best. I haven't seen them on their phone and usually they are interacting with the kiddos. As a child, I had a blast! But now that it's my turn to pay, yikes. Side tracked a bit. But I don't understand why summer fun doesn't immediately start after the elementary school kids are on break!? read more

I have been a member at several gyms including Honolulu Club and 24hour fitness and UFC and this place is the best. First of all the weight and cardiac rooms feature all new equipment and the attendants are helpful and friendly. Second they have 2 fantastic pickleball courts and players will go out of their way to teach and play at all levels inclusively. Third the group classes are all phenomenal. I have tried 5dkfferent classes and all instructors are different, yet excellent in their own way. Fourth, the pool is well maintained, heated, and instructors are trained professionals. Love the aqua classes too since I am a water person. Finally it may not be the brightest shiniest biggest newest facility, but they have a superb attitude in all the different venues including a free kupuna program, and for me that is what counts the most. It may explain why this place is still around while many others did not survive. read more

This review is for the Biddy Sports program through Mililani YMCA. The program introduces preschool age kids to different sports on a monthly rotating schedule. For example one month is flag football, one month is soccer, one month is t-ball. While the concept of the program I found immediately intriguing, it's too bad it is run so poorly. There are WAY too many kids (25+ on most days), not enough equipment ( 1 tee, 1 basketball hoop, etc), and only 1 lackluster coach, who gives zero guidance... all these factors lead to A LOT of downtime. Kids just sitting and waiting for their turn to hit, shoot, kick. $44 a month (I realize this is cheap) per-kid x 25-ish kids... can't you get the kids another tee/hoop/goal for goodness sake? How about two coaches that break the kids into two groups so they have more time ACTUALLY PLAYING? Did I mention they canceled practice twice this month? YMCA Biddy Sports is going to be a pass for us from here on out. read more

The most unprofessional, unorganized YMCA I've ever been to in my entire life. I left them messages 3 days in a row just to get a call back. When they finally did we resolved the issue. THE NEXT DAY they called me again and completely forgot that we resolved the issue and they gave me such a hard time. I went over there in person to talk about so there would be less confusion but the person I was speaking to on the phone didn't even want to come out and see me. All I wanted was to reschedule swim classes because I was signed up for the wrong session and I never attended any of the classes because of the mix-up on top of me being hospitalized. They never gave me my money back for never even going to the class. Keep the chump change, I'll take my business elsewhere and I'm done. These people are incompetent and extremely rude. The MILILANI YMCA has really changed, there is no ALOHA ! I miss Shim! These leaders are not teaching these young leaders how to greet,meet, and take care of your child. When you can please pop in while the class is in session. When you DROP OFF or pick up your child there is no greeting to you or your child they just give u a LOOK... You are paying the YMCA to care for your child! So if you see something you don't like bring it up to the supervisor. I would like to share this with you all and this is the TRUTH She attended the Park and Rec summer fun so she was cared by the YMCA in the AM & PM This was my daughters first day at summer care, I had to walk up to the young girl who was sitting at the table to introduce myself , and my child I told her my child's name and mentioned to them that this is her first day. In the PM the transition between the park summer fun to the YMCA didn't go well. Again this is her first time and they didnt help transition her to the YMCA care. At 246pm I get a call from the YMCA leader ,being at work I wasn't able to answer the phone, there was a second contact number and they didn't call it-- my child calls me at 4:56pm and ask me when am I going to pick her up. I was like wth! The YMCA PEOPLE KNEW she wasn't signed out for pick! Nor did the go looking for her! She was outside for 3hrs unsupervised! I wrote to the head office and see if they cared ! After mostly sitting on my butt for a few years I finally decided that it was time to get back into shape! I really didn't want to join a gym or fitness center, been there and done that...not the friendliest atmosphere cause most are concentrating on their session. Now that I've been coming here for a few months I can say that I really have enjoyed the classes! The morning aqua classes are mostly seniors, many who have been there for years. They are very friendly and easy going so even though I don't get the hardest workout (depending on the instructor), I enjoy the camaraderie. Have tried the Tai Chi, many of the students know the routine. Most of the instructors are very good and enjoyable! It's almost like being part of a club! I pay fifty bucks (no financial assist.) and it goes a looong way with so many classes to choose from! I can also go to any of the Y's on the island too! Sometimes I have trouble deciding which class I want to go to and sometimes I just to to multiple classes! No extra $$$ to pay for it! Yeah! Another thing I like is that they have fun stuff like the book club and just today, the chili cook off! I told the hubby that I should have joined the Y years ago! read more

A great alternative to 24 hr fitness. Cardio and weight rooms are small but has everything you need. Lot's of classes if that's what you're into. Nice pool too. Staff are friendly. Basically it's a cool place to work out. No BS. read more

I have been a member now just a little over two months, Im also a member at 24 hr fitness. The pool is much much better than the 24, and there is always a lifeguard, but the lap swim hours at the Y not great at all. I go for either the swim or the workout room, have not tried the classes. They also have nice clean showers and good water pressure with non see through curtains, lots of chairs and large room to change in and out of clothing, havent used lockers, but lots of them on premise. The staff are all nice and friendly, especiall one personal trainer Jennifer, now she went out of her way to help me with an issue with the stationary bike. I needed to charge my phone and did not have proper hardware. Jennifer went out of her way to get me the things that I needed, Im sure she was busy with other things, since it was a busy open house that day. Jennifer was great and so friendly, just full of spunk, she is a great asset to this Ymca. Thank you Jennifer, also just found out you can get a complimentary pass either through a member, or see if you can just get one. I know on open house day they were giving ten day passes for the month of January. The Y is smaller not loud and noisy more personal than a much larger gym type establishment. read more

I've been coming to this YMCA for about 5 years now and I gotta say I really love it! Great environments where the employees love talking story with you and making you feel like home. They have 2 great workout rooms, one for Casio and other for weights. They open at 530 and I gotta say you gotta come at certain times in order to avoid the crowds. It's usually crowded after 8:00 due to the Zumba classes and after 2 cause of the school rush. Just have to plan. read more

I recently joined the Y for their summer special. It's a really good deal and if you go 36 times in three months you get the fourth month free. I am all about free so I try to go every chance I can. I love their exercise classes during the day. Yoga class on Sunday is the best way to relax. And the Core class they have on Monday and Friday is definitely a work out. I used to be at 24 but the YMCA is so much better. It's small and never crowded. read more

My son went to the summer program and he had a lot of fun. The leaders always called for him when they saw him so that made me feel better. The schedule and hours are wonderful especially since I work in town. The leaders are a bit young but I've also seen older adults less friendly and less responsible so I don't always think age is an indicator of quality. They also had an option to have the kids lunches prepared and ready everyday- that was great! read more

Good family activities. Membership is reasonable and they offer a lot of activities to keep kids busy. But the summer programs are pricey.

This one star is based on the A+ program as I have used other programs in the past and recently. As a returning customer and school coming up, I submitted my child for the before and after school program within the first couple days of open enrollment. Two weeks before school starting, I received a phone call saying that I'm on standby and that they won't be able to support my request. Confused I asked why and they said that they didn't meet minimum requirements for the before school with being 6 students short of their goal. And the after school program was too full and they didn't have enough workers to watch the kids. With my spouse and I working full time, they didn't offer alternative options. Talking with another parent, the assumption led to that the YMCA didn't want to hire more workers and relied on the free volunteer staff. Based on the conversation, it felt as if they were using COVID as an excuse as to pushing for parents not to use their services but by exercising the option to take off work to watch their kids. Unfortunately most jobs are back to full operating standards and days of teleworking are dwindling. This is frustrating as I am on a search for schools that will accept a student from another school outside of their district. I'm very disappointed in the response from the Y and not being proactive in the children's needs. read more

The swim instructors are not very helpful or patient to begin with. Many of them are probably still in high school with little to no experience with children. For the child care center, kids are mostly confined to the small room, with maybe one or two trips outside at most. 4/10 would not recommend. read more

This place is unbelievable! They don't care for the children, and you shouldn't be fool by the smiling faces and occasional hello. The director is awful, which explains why she hires people who have no interest in children, their just there to make a paycheck. She (the director) needs a case opened on her, she has know clue what she's doing, nor should she be in charge of young children. I'm actually asking myself how the ymca qualified her for the job? All I have to say is this, WOW. My little sister went there and had an AWFUL experience. First off, the bathroom she was allowed to use, had NO doors for the stalls. Children were simply told to "not look". Secondly, she was outside long enough to get a very painful sun burn and NO sunscreen was supplied and parents weren't told to use any. Thirdly, one of the instructors told children "no goofing of or having fun unless it is a planned activity". UNBELIEVABLE. My little sister is 10 and I could take care of her at home with more activities and better care at NO COST. Fourthly, oh yeah, I didn't mention the activities, she painted 2 paper plates and was not allowed to bring them home, instead, they were mandatory for decoration for a play that was not included in the day camp. Then there was kickball. There were 13 kids selected at random to play kickball OUT OF AROUND 25 KIDS! Those kids had to play weather they liked it or not. Mind you, this was the experience for ONE DAY! Needless to say, she will NOT be attending the day camp ever again. read more

YMCA mililani spoils my day bcoz I was so excited to register my daughter for parent and tot swim class for their spring schedule. I called today to ask if they still have open slots and their RUDE receptionist/staff said that there are still several skeds open so I asked if I could register my daughter for the remaining 7 sessions and she said "yes and u need to pay the full register fee" then my blood starts to boil when she said that and I asked her why and she only said "that I couldn't answer " then ive started explaining to her "that u know it's not my first time to register my child for swim class. We used to have her swimming class at YMCA NUUANU and same thing we have late registration and we only paid for what's left for the remaining sessions " then she put me to on hold maybe to ask if that's ok then she talks again she said "still u need to pay for the full fee for the month of March- may " so I requested her to give me mr Kevin Tang (aquatics director's) # and she said" we are not allowed to give away any number from our instructor" w/c is BS coz it's on their website then I'm just so mad and told her ok so pls tranfer my call to him coz I need explaination why u guys will let me pay for the full amount of the registration fee even if will have to attend the remaining 7 sessions. So as expected there is no return call from Mr. Kevin Tang. I'm very disappointed for both of them but I've got my sweet revenge here on Yelp. So will just have to search for other swimming schools coz YMCA MILLILANI swimming program sucks!!! What a shame!!! U guys doesn't deserve any star but again I have to post this read more
