best camp ever fr. was a camper here for 10 years and worked here for 3! when covid hit they did remove bus services and trips which i understand. i miss the overnight trips to six flags and club getaway a lot, and i know my explorer girls would've loved having that. but that's life ig. anyway this is still a super cool fun awesome place to send your kids!!! 5 stars!!! oh also the pool is sooooo big and the vibes are immaculate! read more

If I could put negative stars, I would. First off my one and only child went there for two years first year she was fine. Second year had bullies. Supposedly they have a no bullying policy. Well, on several occasions, my child and several children were being bullied, and it was brought to the counselors attention to the main offices attention, and to the owners/guy who runs it attention. supposedly the child that was bullying My child and several others should have be kicked out. That's what their policy states that didn't happen. My child had to endure being bullied or what happened was we left and did not get our money back even when brought to their attention on numerous occasions that that bullying child was still there! And bullying is supposedly against their guidelines. The situation is I have one child and they were only getting paid for one child. The kid that bullied. My child had siblings so if they kicked that child out, the parents were gonna take the other children out and ask for their money back for their children. So does sum it up if your child gets bullied, they will do nothing about it. You just make your child summer a living hell! read more

Horrible management, people curse each other out in front of campers as young as 3 years old. Not a child centered camp and not worth anyone's money. It's such a beautiful complex that is wasted because of the horrible way it's run. Multiple campers in diapers and swim diapers so there's a lot of accidents in the pool and no closing for cleaning. No one should disrespect themselves by working there and no one should disrespect their child by sending them there. read more

Mill Basin Day Camp will not be getting any more of my money. My son got to the point that he didn't want to go back to camp because he was so stressed out dealing with the kids on the bus, and counselors who had favorites and ignored some of the other kids in the group. The kids are unsupervised on some trips according to my kids and some of the parents I spoke to. This is not a surprise since you are paying children to watch children. These poor counselors don't even make minimum wage and we the parents have to give them tips to make up for the lack of money they get for this job. What is my $3000 being spent on Jack? Its a shame that I feel like my kids wasted a large portion of their summer at MBDC. I will be looking for new options for the summer of 2020 and will no longer refer friends and family members to this organization. Jack please make some changes and listen to the parents suggestions, because things need to change my friend. You're a good guy, but this summer just felt broken for me and a lot of the other parents. If anyone has some suggestions for a summer camp in 2020 please let me know. it's all about the money not the kids .. This camp is way overpriced for the services they provide for a child's summer. Looks good at first impression however it's a dumping ground for the elite Mill Basin crowd or so they think. Basically they will warehouse a kid in a brick walled room that resembles a prison setting. If you do tour this camp inquire how many trips the camp takes during the summer and how much time your child will have in the pool on a daily basis. As far as the staff that will deal with your child on a daily basis it's basically other kids that went threw the camp and now have summer jobs. Staff will encourage your child to buy daily from the concession stand it's all about the money here. Very cliquish so if your child does not come from the area or is not in with the brat crowd good luck. I am sure after a summer here you will see some behaviors you never taught at home. The camp is simply a reflection of Mill Basin and not a place for an intelligent or sweet child. read more

This camp is the worst. The kids going there are terrible. Your kids will be exposed to the worst of the worst. Your kid will come out exposed to so much crap, you'll wish you never brought them here. I do. My kid warned me. I went to the parent orientation. I felt deceived, if i had known kids were going to watch my kid, i would've never enrolled. They say the "Directors" watch the kids, but they watch the kids that are supposed to watch your kids, and they call them "councelors" high school students is what they are. Teens watching younger kids. If you don't want to ruin all the hard work you've put into your kid, don't send them there. My kid kept telling me they take the fun out of everything. My child went to the Summer 2015 Camp. Charges are extremely high. You cannot sent your kid for a 4 wks session because it cost just as much as 8 wks. All the activities shown to me when I first entered the camp were not utilize by my daughter. My daughter attended 3-days a week for 8 weeks costing me $2450 whereas...full attendance cost $2600 and does not include transportation....thats another $350 added on. THIS IS HIGHWAY ROBBERY..... .Kids are the counsellors to these campers. Also an email is sent to every parent stating the amount of tips to give the counsellors which I believe its rude and intrusive......its ranges to about $175. Now if I don't give the "sugested amount....my kid would be labelled. Personally, with all that amount of money we pay ....tips should be inclusive! When I asked why can't they leave it to the parents' discretion on how much to give? They claimed that parents' call and ask. then I asked why the "suggested" TIPS amount so high.....their answer.....its a LARGE PART OF THE COUNSELLORS' SALARIES!! Basically.....we pay their salaries plus camp fees. I HIGHLY DO NOT RECOMMMEND THIS CAMP....... I STRONGLY BELIEVE THAT THEY ARE TRYING TO KEEP WELL DESERVE LOW INCOME KIDS FROM ATTENDING THEIR CAMP BECAUSE THERE IS A STIGMA ATTACHED TO BEING POOR AND UNDERPRIVILEGED!! I am updating my piece on Mill Basin Day Camp to address a nasty -yet quite untrue post by a poster who to the best of our knowledge never worked at this camp. I have been associated with many summer programs and let me tell you you won't find a better run program than the one at Mill Basin Day Camp. We have a zero tolerance policy on drugs, smoking and alcohol and at no time did I ever see this policy violated. What's more - there is a very high return of staff and these staffers are most dedicated to the camp. When I believe in something, I speak out... and I can't let a false review of a great camp go without a rebuttal. Speaking to parents out there who may be reading this... who are you going to believe?... a disgruntled teenager who claims to allegedly have worked here but describes a totally different place, or a respected college educator ? Better yet, don't just take my word for it...ask other parents here in Brooklyn ...people you know....(REAL people, not fake Yelp personalities- you may note that the author of the nasty untrue review has only one review on this site) ... or check out the camp for yourself... the owner is very nice and will personally show you around and answer all of your questions and concerns. He does not hide in an unnamed office like the owners of many other summer programs, but is an active participant of the whole process. read more

I would never send my kids to this camp!! I was appalled at the lack of disrespect and representation the counselors showed out in public to kids and adults alike. A counselor named Melissa was very nasty and rude and argued with us when she was questioned about an incident with her campers. I was floored that a teenager would speak to adults the way she did. As my girlfriend turned to walk away, Melissa said something under her breathe and made a face at her. All her campers laughed. This is the type of counselor they have as role models? Melissa was not the only counselor that showed this behavior and I was shocked! As a "Family" owned camp, there were no "Family" morals shown! read more

Wanda is completely correct about what goes on at the camp. I should know because I worked there. The reason they give you a paper telling you how much you should tip is because the counselors get paid close to NOTHING. They don't even make minimum wage. I was a Junior Counselor, and I got paid $75 PER WEEK. Thats working Mon-Fri for as long as the kids are there. The older kids are horrible, and there is little done to discipline them because they care more about the parents money. I've seen them with weed and alcohol, there is a loooot of bullying, the kids are often left unattended by counselors who just want to work there to have something to do and talk to the girl counselors. I mean, you can't entirely blame a person for not wanting to give their all to a job that pays nothing. There is a lot more I would like to tell, about the rudeness of the boss and higher ups in the camp but I think I'll end this review now. There are much better camps to send your child to. MBDC is amazing my son jumps out of bed in the morning with excitement to attend camp, the staff is organized and friendly the camp has so many cool activities for all ages, my son is in the preschool group the director Karen has been beyond accommodating....already signed my son up for next year I would recommend this camp to anyone!! read more

My 4 year old son attended last year and CAN NOT WAIT to go back again next month. I'm not sure about the negative posts here but I have to say that I have had zero negative experiences. My kid came home happy and exhausted every day, arts and crafts in hand, talking about his new friends and all the cool things he did. They took trips weekly and it seems like at camp the activities never stop. Also, I've had only good experiences with the staff. I'm really happy for this camp! read more

My son just finished his 3rd summer at camp He had a great time. Loved all the activities and trips. So much fun stuff is on site. Staff was great def worth seeing him make new friends and enjoy his summer. The owner dresses up everyday and all the activities are on site and everything is supervised. This was my son's 3rd summer here. If you want your pre-teen to be yelled at (btw he is hearing impaired but really), left unsupervised at amusement parks in other states, and hang out with a bunch of clique-ish mean kids; then this is the place for you. Unless you happen to be a part of the "mill basin" crowd ( brooklynites know what I mean) save your 3000.00 and take your kid on vacation instead. Why 3 years you ask? This year his friend attended and reported back all that was going on. My son's father had to drive down to lancaster to rescue him from a day alone at Hershey Park. The counselors make no attempt to keep the group together or include that odd kid that gets left out. Oh and then you get a letter telling you how much to tip. I have to pay you extra for not supervising my kid and yelling at him because he didn't hear you? Did I mention those things on his ears are hearing aids?? read more

I am really sory to hear about Wanda's experience at mill basin day camp but i just had to write a review to counteract hers. I don't know what happened in her case, but in my experience the counsellors are great, the kids love it and the owner is completely accessible in case there is a problem. It also does have an excellent reputation, and most people come there year after year. I can tell you that my only problem so far is the photo gallery (the software for this is terrible) But at least they take pictures of the kiddies so you know what they are doing! anyway, we are happy with it. read more

So I have a VERY picky 11 year old (he's the son of a VERY picky mom!). This has truly been his best camp experience thus far (he's attended many). Last year I lost money because his experience was so poor that I couldn't force him to continue attending. Communication is top notch. They send emails galore (I prefer over communication to under), so you are always aware of what's going on with your camper. For example: on trip days they send emails when the campers leave, when they arrive at the destination and when they return to the camp. Love it!). They also always seem to be looking for ways to improve the camp experience (for example: they've announced new activities for the 2017 camp year, and this year they added an app that allows you to track your campers bus if you use bus service). Bus service also saved my life this year as a full-time working parent. Lots of trips including overnight stays for the older campers. I can stress enough how picky my son is but he encouraged me to continue adding extra weeks of camp to our initial purchase of 4 weeks. The only Cons are: I'd love for food to be available for purchase for the older kids OR a microwave to be available so that we can include more of a variety of packed lunches. The camp is fairly pricey, but not completely out of line with other NYC based camps (and you do sometimes get what you pay for, so I can't complain too much). Lastly, towards the end of camp year they sent an email asking for voluntary tips for the counselors. Although it was stressed that this was optional, the email was a little offputting because 1) no other camp that he's attended has asked for this 2) since the notice went out late, we had not budgeted for this 3) the $ numbers for tips (plus the amt. of people whom it was suggested that we tip for) was going to get costly. As a suggestion I think that this should be mentioned upfront so that parents can budget for it. We'll probably purchase gift gards for the counselors instead this year, so that his counselors are aware of our appreciation. Overall, outstanding year and we're looking forward to 2017 read more

I am giving this Day Camp 5 Stars for many reasons, My nephews and niece came from Dominican Republic to spend the summer in the camp. My Sister and Brother in law wanted their children to meet and interact with different cultures,wonderful idea but there is one catch, my nephews and niece know very little English, This Camp &every single staff member made sure the children felt comfortable. They were so patient with them and helped the children feel welcomed. The first week the kids were so adamant about the camp because of the language barrier but just a week later they loved the over all experience and the oldest is already asking his parents to bring him back next summer. I have to also say that there was on Counselor in specific that was great with the children especially with the middle child. I'm writing this from a parents point of view. My kids have been going here for years. My oldest child aged out of teen quest and thought he'd get a job as a counselor only to be told that they don't hire 15 year olds which is not true because there are several 15 year counselors there. Year after year being told that campers are encouraged to apply for jobs when they age out of teen quest. What for?? Its the old "who you know" who gets the job. Another problem is that the teens are left unsupervised while out of state on overnights. another problem is that the pics on the website in the photo gallery never include the teens especially the cd that the owner mails out after the season ends. another issue is the owner only mingles with the parents who have money and drive expensive cars. if you drive an ordinary car, don't expect the owner to say hello when u see him. From my kids point of view, they enjoy the summer there so its money spent to keep them out of the house. read more
