Mixed bag here--I had failed to stop an hour before at the cluster of markets we passed so had been looking for another and found this one. Outside they have plastic fake fruits and vegetables on display and some dead/dying plants. But everything is really inside. They have fresh fruits and veggies, cheese/eggs/meats/eggs, bulk spices and nuts, noodles and other dry goods, jams and jellies and other canned items, fresh breads, and tons of cakes and pies. Initially I was honestly creeped out by the old timey supermarket music, dim lighting, and the display outside, but we did find some great stuff. Finally stopped here. There is a food truck next door where you can get all sorts of stuff. Folks were eating lunch. This review is not about the truck. The market is an old place. The part I didn't like were all the flies around and on the produce. Big turnoff. Tomatoes were very blemished. Just didn't feel comfortable enough to buy anything. Not a ton of parking. There are many better places to stop between Ocean City and DC. Try those. read more

we stopped here for the first time last Sunday. my first impression was that it didn't smell good inside. It isn't necessarily a rotten smell, more just off and unpleasant. the selection is okay. there were some decent peaches, but they were relatively expensive. The bread selection was mediocre at best. Finally, at check-out, the employee seemed hardly interested in ringing up our purchase, never mind being pleasant. we won't stop here again. read more

During my "adventure" I stopped here as well.... Still looking for friendship bread..... This place smelled funny on the inside and they were pretty cold but I kept asking questions (it loosened the mood a bit but it was cold). I decided the produce may not be fresh and some of the coolers were out of order. It was giving not fresh vibes but they had candies and I had to try them (dollar sticks reminded me of the good ole days). I saw zucchini bread and the cranberry orange bread but no friendship bread. Uggghhhhhh...... There was cake (from smith island - to which I got a quick lesson on). The cakes are supposed to be famous but the aforementioned vibes made me not interested (unsure about the freshness). The store accepts credit cards with a $10 minimum. Thats a blast from the past (who charges minimums anymore). I asked a few questions at the food truck. It said "fish fry today" so I got excited but they have rockfish and cod as well, so it is a no for me. The rest of the menu was basically burgers and such. I didn't try anything. They had bbq but I didn't smell or see smoke - so really no fish fry or bbq. This place is nice on the outside - an eye catcher - but really nothing to see here folks. They have a giant metal chicken, a giant strawberry, and dozens of fake watermelons lining the fruit stands outside - we had to come in. Inside, there were some Amish products and fresh fruit and veggies for those looking to bring home some goodies. We saw the iconic Maryland state cake called the Smith Island cake. We bought a slice for $7 (gulp) - wish I could tell you how it tasted but SOMEONE IN MY FAMILY ATE IT WITHOUT SHARING IT WITH ME. I'm not naming names. Grumpys - the yellow "food" truck parked in the Mill Creek Farms parking lot. Although we discovered this food truck with fried fish sandwiches late October 2024, and had a good tasting eating experience, I can't say the same for recent July 26, 2025 visit. Grumpy is an understatement! The person behind the sliding window is anything but pleasant. More concerned that the air conditoning in her truck space would be lost if you take too long to make your order. Which is CASH ONLY. The ribs tasted like they had been cooked a few days earlier and just microwaved to heat them up. The sauce was scarce. Essentially, the $64 of "food" we bought was anything but ... grumpy. read more

We stopped by this small market right off of Route 50 to take a look. First off all, it is very deceiving from the road. This market is much larger that it appears and they have a really nice grocery inventory for its size . A lot of homemade grocery items and the Smith Island cakes and bakery items look incredible. It is a little pricey but they had a number of items we cannot by in the DMV area. We did not try the barbecue put food truck but that looks OK on the cover. read more

Have stopped here many times over the years, as I did yesterday. Great produce, Smith Island Cake (!), some trinkets etc. Unfortunately I had to use the restroom when I stopped; there not being one inside I was directed to the two PortaPotties outside. Disgusting beyond belief! Obvious neglect that reflects poorly on the otherwise pretty good long standing establishment. Hard to imagine the proprietors are ignorant of the situation; I'm guessing they think it's somebody else's problem. If you stop there, great, just don't have to use the bathroom. Four stars for the business, zero for the accommodations. read more

Just abandoned my cart and left in the middle of my transaction because the manager/owner/old man was so indignant to me over corn. He said loudly not to peel it because it ruins it for other customers. Totally fair, and I responded I was happy to stop and that signage might be helpful for the future. He continued to be rude and responded that he buys the corn blind so we can, too. He was so unnecessarily unpleasant that we decided to leave without spending our money there. It was sadly a poor representation of Maryland's hospitality. Don't let the crab flags fool you - there's far better stands to get produce from and to invest in the local economy. Plus it smelled, it was dusty, and the carts are grimy. 0/10, not for me. read more

After all these years of traveling home from Ocean City, I don't think we ever stopped at this Amish style market on the Eastern Shore before, but I'm glad we did. My son had just described to me the Smith Island cakes the day before, and turns out this was the place to find them ($30-50). Even though it was my birthday, I passed because of overindulging the day before, but I could see they would take time to make. Maybe next time. The store is full canisters filled with candies (including hard to find vintage) fudge, spices, dried fruits and I could go on and on. We visited our favorite little road side farm yesterday to stock up on herbs, spices and jams and jellies for the winter months. They have the most wonderful soup mix with herbs, dried vegetables and spices just waiting for a bubbling pot of beef or chicken broth making soup or stew. They have homemade noodles and pastas and wonderful fig jam. Hurry before the season ends!! read more

Bottom Line: A seasonal roadside stand/small store with fresh produce, Amish goods, food trucks and porta pottys, So I am should have pulled over for this road side stand because they were advertising fresh, healthy produce but the truth is that I was intrigued by the thought of getting a Smith Island cake! Mill Creek Farms is basically a small seasonal grocery store/produce stand that carries locally grown produce, Amish goods like jellies and spices and Smith Island cakes. There is also an ice cream stand/food truck and on the day I visited, a fish fry stand/food truck. I ended up spending $32 on a six-inch Smith Island Cake which ended up being a bit dry for that kinda money. This stand looked super cute and charming from US50 but it wasn't as great as I had hoped, perhaps because they are getting ready to close for the season. read more

OMG this was my first day going and I'm already obsessed. First off Grumpys the food truck was delicious and very well priced. The owners are so sweet it's as if they made the food with all the love in their hearts. The ambience and their cat George was so cute as a cat lover I was touched to see the cutie. Not to mention that I didn't even need to sprinkle old bay on my fries they were sprinkled throughout and tasted like a fruit from the garden of eden. 2nd off the store is sooooo cute!!!. Things are very well priced and there's lots and lots to buy I'm dairy , spices , plants and even baked goods it's a great place to go. Purchased 1/2 an orange flavored Smith Island cake for $31.75 on way back from beach. I picked a cake from the freezer and had a cooler with ice to put it in for 5 hour trip home. When we cut it that evening it had mold in it! I have been trying to contact the store at the number on the receipt (410-820-2323) for 2 days and no one answers. I called the Smith Island bakery and found out these cakes are not from their bakery. Disgusting to pay that much for a knock off and then it isn't fit to eat. Buyer beware! read more

This place is great! The food truck was exactly what I was craving! The prices were not bad as some of the other reviews have said. They make the food fresh at Grumpy's. They were so nice and friendly. The store is just awesome. Everything in bulk you'd ever want! The prices were also great inside. I compared their prices to items on Amazon and they were wayyyy better. Got some caramel puffs on a whim. They had every spice combo, candies, local honey and even had lucky charms marshmallows in bulk. I can't wait to stop here again after every trip from the ocean. read more

(7/16/2017) Of course, stopped by a few produce stands on the way west from the shore on Route 50. We missed the turn for our usual place, Wright's, so forged on (also desperately needed to pee). Saw a sign for produce and a stand with tomatoes and watermelons out front. Hysterical thing is, these are just show "tomatoes" (red painted squash balls) and show "melons" (green painted giant plastic Easter eggs). Does the trick I suppose, it's a vibrant display, never rotted or wilting. Produce is inside the store (kind of decrepit, in desperate need of some maintenance), it's a mix of local and wholesale bought and retailed to you (some still with the stickers). The draw, I think, is the "Amish" goods. Most appealing to me was Troyer's thick sliced pepper bacon, butter rolls, and scrapple and the bags of handmade dry noodles, like wide egg and pot pie squares. There's plenty of dry goods (soup and dip mixes, packaged nuts and candies (I wonder about all of these, they look like repackaged bulk). There's a couple of fridge cases of slices, halves and whole Smith Island Cakes. Looked pretty. Pro tip: park on the east side of the store (right when you pull in), if you think there's more parking on the west side, and take the driveway past the store, there isn't. You will be in the exit lane and will have to off road it if you are intent on staying. NOTE: 2 port-a-potties available labelled men's and women's (although both have toilets and urinals). If you gotta pee, stop at Wright's (they have real plumbing). read more

Love Grumpy's, the Food truck/stand and the Mill Creek Market! Everyone was wearing a mask inside when we went to the market. Love the Smith Island Cakes, Cinnamon licorice, corn, popcorn kernels and fruit/produce. Fun place with lots of candy choices too. From Northern VA... Like going to the beach without the far drive! Grumpy's food was delish -every time! Soft shell crab sandwiches outstanding. French fries just right. Cole slaw very good. They were very kind, and even gave our dog a free half of a hot dog, maybe because they recognized us from coming two weeks in a row! Highly recommend! Great road trip for food and grocery purchases - and then take a nice walk in Wye River Nature Preserve or explore the area otherwise. read more

On a recent trip back to DC we stopped here. The enormous strawberries, visible from a mile away, coupled with the "Amish Goods" sign were enough to attract us. We enjoyed looking at all the jams (berry jalapeno!) , jellies, nuts, spices, etc, along with all the fresh local fruit. I picked up some peanut butter fudge, peaches, maple syrup, and Amish pork sausage; my wife picked up some squash chips, okra, and fresh strawberries. We left our dog in the car but noticed a sign that "pets need to be leashed at all times," suggesting that we could have brought him inside. Overall, the place didn't turn out to be the tourist trap its appearance suggested it would be. read more

Stopped on our way to the beach to stretch our legs and grab some ice cream. Didnt have flavor we wanted and said ice cream was too soft for cones. Not a big deal, picked a different flavor. Ice cream was nothing special. Lady behind the counter could have been nicer, but nonetheless I was polite back. Decided to check out the little store. As we entered the man who was stocking the shelves yelled at us to "close the damn door" when my mother I was with asked if thats how he treated all of his customers he replied "I've got the damn air conditioning running" and so we said we were leaving and the less than kind man told us to never come back. We love supporting the local businesses, but will not support the foul treatment we received. We will not return. read more

We stopped on our way back from Easton Md. The food is very good, ended up getting dried fruits in the plastic container. Pricey but good. The ice cream part, connected to the store. $4 is way too much to charge for an ice cream cone. The jumbo size Crab was not even 1/4 size of a real jumbo crab. There was also no sell by/good by sticker on the containers to know when they were even made. Thank God I didn't spend the $50 on a Smith Island cake like I was debating!
