I have owed Nick a review for too long for the beautiful custom backyard he built for us in the summer of 2022, so here it is. Previously we were not using our backyard too often - we had huge leyland cypresses along our fenceline that absolutely choked any sunlight out of the backyard. We had moss everywhere, grass that struggled to grow in the shade and grew patchy, and some large magnolia trees that would constantly get damaged by the winter snows. We love being outdoors and spending time in our backyard, but wanted to upgrade the space. We worked with Nick to create a custom plan and redesign our backyard from the ground up, including a covered patio area with BBQ grill and flat top, mini fridge, and a beautiful stone fireplace. Nick's team wrapped the columns of the patio cover with stone, and laid it all out on a bluestone paved patio. He was also able to accommodate a hot tub, and finished it all off with lovely landscaping and plants. We even added a shed and wired it up as an extra entertainment room. Throughout the whole process Nick was patient and accommodating, and was flexible as we encountered problems or changes that needed to be made. Nick's guys were on time and professional, and basically spent months with them as they did their work! I was so nervous about signing with a contractor to build our retaining wall and patio because of my incurably high expectations, but I had the sense from the beginning that Nick would care as much about the details as I do. Boom. Correct. We already had a design from a landscape architect but Nick was able to adjust our rough plans to be even more precise and suitable for the space. His crew was equally conscientious. At least three separate times, Tony asked for my opinion on what he had started building, and when I said, "How about this way instead?" he graciously took the more time-consuming route to ensure all of his meticulous stone work made me smile. Nick Noren and his crew had a very extensive task: to completely renovate a 1/2 acre backyard and patio from an architect's plans. Included was demo of the existing patio, complete regrading of the property, a new bluestone patio with firepit and stone seat walls, a boulder retaining wall, new irrigation and new sod and plants. The team was professional, creative, very easy to work with, and considerate of the neighbors, particularly when heavy equipment was in use. Nick created a detailed budget and plan, and no changes were done without our approval. Nick also has design experience, and made wonderful suggestions that slightly altered the plan that resulted in a better outcome and saved us some money. I got a good vibe from Nick, the owner of Mill Creek Landscapes, right from the get go. He is friendly, easy to work with, and professional. Not only is he very skilled at the installation part of the trade, but he had great recommendations and ideas for making our patio look great and work well for our family. My 86 year old grandmother can now safely go out into the back yard as Nick and crew made a beautiful, slightly graded ramp from her door to the patio. The new patio itself looks great! We did pavers and Nick listened to what we wanted and had suggestions for the pattern and border. We went with his recommendations and are so glad we did. He added beauty bark to our existing beds and created another beautiful bed with boulders, trees, and plants for us. Nick is skilled as a landscape architect and knows what will look good together. We were out of town during part of the patio installation and had no worries or issues with the work or crew while we were away. They are honest and trustworthy. The two other members of Nick's crew were amazing as well. They worked hard, did an excellent job and were very polite and friendly. When the job was done, Nick took the time to walk through everything that they did, including giving us maintenance and cleaning information. You can really tell that Nick takes pride in creating beautiful spaces and truly cares that his customers are happy with his work. (We are!!!) I highly recommend Mill Creek Landscapes. We started a project to build a pool at our dream house. Once we got started we realized we would need landscape around to make the project look they way we were hoping. Nick was recommend to us by a friend, but we didn't know him or Mill Creek Landscapes at all. We needed a full design of our rear patio space. Nick was able to put together a plan that incorporated all the things we loved about our existing landscape and also give us new touches that are not only beautiful but very useful. I would like to say I had a hand in designing this great space but we pretty much have exactly what the first renderings look like that Nick prepared. He provided us with multiple budget options and was honest with his opinions. We had things that didn't go exactly as planned, materials that we thought would work and had to be changed and some decisions that had to be made on the fly, but we felt guided through the process and in control of every decision. Projects of this magnitude are going to have a few twists and turns, it was great to have such a good navigator through the process and typically he had better suggestions than we could have thought of. They have a very professional crew. Every worker that was at our house was courteous and professional. Regardless of the mess that was made during the day while working, it was tidy before they went home every night. Nick and his company at Mill Creek Landscapes were an amazing group to work with. We had a very big backyard project (3-4 months) and they really delivered. We used a landscape architect for our project but in hindsight we could have used Nick for the design phase as he has great taste and understanding of landscape design. We even had to make some modifications to the architects work because it was clear it was not feasible they way it was planned and Nick always had great suggestions that we implemented. His crew had to work through the winter which was no easy task but they were always professional, approachable, and on time. The one thing I really appreciated about Nick was he was always checking in to make sure all questions and concerns were addressed. The amount of communication back and forth was welcomed and more than we would have expected. He also gave us a great referral to his colleague who built us an amazing large overhead patio structure (Stone columns, lighting, sky lights, etc...). His selection of material was top notch but designed to meet all budgets (we went with Blue Stone which is absolutely beautiful!!!). His ability to source odd and unusual specimen trees really helped make our backyard standout. We hired Nick and his team to complete a fairly large paver patio project for us that included a retaining wall, pathway and extending our existing deck steps that would lead down to the patio. We received 3 bids for this project and Nick was very competitive in price but more so it was his integrity that really shined. The job was started on time and finished as expected with Nick embracing changes we wanted to make along the way, including additional landscaping designs to compliment the patio. Nick was superb! We were in a very tight spot with a complaint from our hoa to deal with dead grass. We had been using another yard service for the previous three years whom were unable to accommodate our time line needs. Nick was incredibly responsive and flexible. I was traveling and away from home, all of this was done over email. He was able to go to my house, send a detailed bid and at the request of my hoa create and submit a drawing on my behalf. He handled the situation quickly and professionally. He and his crew were able to completely redesign and complete our job within two days. While they were working, a clearly uptight neighbor called Mill Creek security to report them for some unknown reason and took pictures...nicks crew also handled this highly aggravating and ridiculous neighbor without incident. -- can't say that had I been home is have dealt with it quite as well. Worst. Experience! Ever. Did not plant the trees I requested. Planted tiniest shrubs that looked like they came from Home Depot. Guaranteed landscaping for one year. When many plants died the first year, Nick's dad came out and looked, and agreed to replace, saying that it was due to the exceptionally hot summer. When they delivered a new tree (in the winter), it became clear in the spring that they had delivered a dead tree. Nick's dad came back out, and then blamed me for not watering (not true!) Additionally, did not replace ferns and shrubs that died. Nick and crew were at least a month overdue in completing my project. read more
