Very nice owner who takes gently used kid toys that my boys had outgrown. She was so understanding and kind to my 2yo and 5yo.

Public outcry was so great (because these people do real good in this community) that they've been allowed to stay.

And what I scored: a vintage very deep purple, almost black toggle button wool coat with a matching hood that's detachable--quilted purple lining with another flannel lining on the inside and on the hood. It's a very intimate little space that's located upstairs, a very disabled set of stairs leading to a small room with carefully arranged and hung clothing. There's also small objects of art and stuff also beautiful and surprisingly affordable. What I loved about this place is that it's not one of those high priced places where you walk in thinking because it's consignment or vintage, you're gonna get a good deal-but it's outrageously expensive. Nope. This has so many gorgeous things at unbelievably reasonable prices, you want to get everything! The owner/shopkeeper was really sweet and civilized, no pressure to buy and we browsed till we were ready. This is a must try if you're anywhere near the area!

I mistakenly thought the store was open because the door was wide open, completely missing the closed sign posted on the door. I walked in and my family who was with me followed me in. I was inside looking at the wallets when I heard someone asking why we were inside. An elderly woman, short, with glasses, and a hose running with water continued to rudely usher us out of the store. She complained about us not seeing the sign and continued to attack us for being in the store despite it being closed. We apologized and let her know it was an honest mistake. We were outside the shop at this point. She continued to express herself in an angry and rude tone then insinuated we seemed suspicious because we were near the register. I assume she meant we looked like we might be stealing. In that moment I interrupted her and told her we were sorry, it was an honest mistake, and we were not stealing. I was upset at this point and let her know sternly that we did not appreciate the way she was speaking to us and we would appreciate kindness, especially from an employee/store owner. I told her I would write a review about my experience and here it is. Next time I suggest you calm down, assess the situation and approach potential customers with kindness and ease if you want us to come back. If not, then by all means continue being mean and project your negativity on other people, that will for sure keep people away from the business.

Basing a low rating on a snippet of conversation you disagreed with seems a bit off-base and more than a little judgemental, no? Especially when you noted the warm greeting and polite exit. Thrift stores are about community and reuse, not ideological purity tests. The Ark is clean, welcoming, and packed with affordable goodies--who cares if the chit-chat behind the counter doesn't match your specific worldview? If we started judging businesses solely on overheard opinions, we'd all be shopping in echo chambers. Props to the polite team; they've earned my repeat business for the deals, not the discourse.
