I recently rented a Portable toilet for one of my construction sites. The service was fast and pick up was quick. I called in Thursday morning and they brought it over the same afternoon upon my request. Pick up was quick as well I called in the previous day and asked them to come as soon as they could. Total price I was told to at 171.38, later I got a letter in the mail saying I owned 7.50... This was my only downturn with the company everything is great. Still recommend it. Will still use them again except this time I will expect another small bill in the mail. read more

I just got hung up on in my face for the 2nd time with these folks. I've called them maybe 3 times since I moved here and am forced to use them as no other refuse service collects from here. They are horrible and don't care about how it comes across on the phone. You can call them about billing, service whatever and still the same rude behavior. This company really irritates me... they remind me of a company in the former Soviet Union. The office staff is really hostile, rude and not interested in being helpful. Why should they when they have a monopoly? Where are you going to go for trash service? See, just like the former Soviet Union. No competition - they have it all locked up. Really surly office staff. I agree with the other comments about their rudeness. Their customer service is horrible. The woman who answers the phone could not be ruder or less helpful if she tried. This company proves that without competition, a business will not make any effort to improve. One star is too high, however, NONE was not an option. They are your only choice for garbage if you live in Mill Valley and I have for 22 years. Their "customer service" people are rude and not helpful anytime. There are rules upon rules for everything especially where to leave your items to be picked up. Also, rules about leaving items on the side of cans that will not go into a can (larger boxes). Then there are surcharges for anything they can gin up. I long for the days when you just put out garbage and it got picked up. Instead there is a bureaucracy that is finicky about everything. read more

Here's an example of how great Mill Valley Refuse Service is...their trash collectors break the trash cans, lose the lids, or leave them in the street to be run over. Then you need to go shopping and pay for a new can. Then they want $8 to throw away the can they ruined. Oh, and you have to call them in advance to set up that special service. Scam! read more

I hired them for a porta-potty ...and I found out kind of late that they were not forthcoming in their pricing at all, or what you pay for the service and when. I got a surprise bill at the end that far exceeded what was anticipated - no apologies or any willingness to work it out. I see their porta-johns out on a lot of sites around here, but my advice to the homeowners would be to go elsewhere (no pun intended). read more

I hate this company with a passion. They're incompetent. Continuous problems with billing, they refuse to pick up trash and recycling on the same day so there are cans all over tiburon, it is highly irritating to be taking out cans twice a week when every other company I know of does both on the same day, they will leave your trash because they can't figure out how to bill you properly, endless issues. I will be petitioning the city of Tiburon to revoke their license and open this town up to competition, momentarily. Unacceptable. read more

This company was very difficult to do business with. Although I did over $3,000 of business with them (hauling boxes of dirt out of Belvedere) evety time I called to request a box pick-up they were...mean spirited, like l was taking to much time or asking stupid questions. Kind of like they had an exclusive agreement to service this area and if I didn't like it, to bad. On several occasions they made a commitment to exchange a full box with an empty box but their driver would arrive, pick up the full box, and and tell me he would bring out an empty box at a different time. Most times they would not arrive with a empty box as promised. They would say they would do an exchange at early morning but would come at late morning. It's very difficult doing business with Mill Valley Debris. I suggest using a different company (yes there is another authorized company that can hall debris in Belvedere). I used Grange for the remainder of the job. Grange was cheaper, willing, and happy to work with you in your efforts to haul out debris. read more

We have been using Mill Valley Refuse Service for over 45 years and have had few problems. One time they misplaced my payment and I was not happy that they put the burden on me to prove that I had paid them, but net net that was a minor problem. Pickup is like clockwork, predictable and consistent. it is easy to schedule an extra can, and we have used their debris box service. I would say for a public utility/franchise type of operation they are pretty good. read more

If I could put zero stars on this I would. It seems odd that this is the only choice to be had if you live in Mill Valley, so it seems this is not going to really make a difference as they have a monopoly on garbage service. If there is an alternative please let us know. In the past they have not picked up cans, (not sure why but they always have an excuse) Not provided service for example: the compost container they gave me broke. Fine. I asked for a new one. They told me they were low on them and would replace when they could. What am I supposed to do with my yard waste in the meantime? In the end I ended up having to pay someone else to come pick it up. No credit nothing from MVRS. I did eventually get a new can but literally not for 6 months. Billing dept is completely inept. I signed up for auto payment only to be told they did not get my check (yikes ... is that still floating out there somewhere with all my personal information) with the form which I assured them I sent. My word against theirs. I lose. Because I assumed I was being billed automatically (my mistake, I should have realized they would have messed this up) as a result my first bill lapsed I got charged a late fee. It's not the amount. It is the sheer frustration. I have never had an issue with any other company public or private before. This company is unapologetic for their poor service & horrible customer service. Shawn/Sean who ever you are should not be allowed to deal with the public. You are rude and ill suited for dealing with customers. You have hung up on me, berated me, accused me of lying. I don't get it. Like others here I have never written a review but I am at my wits end. Does anyone have a suggestion. I'm seriously thinking of just taking care of disposing my trash on my own. read more

I couldn't get any definite commitment on picking up my trash. Please, please, please someone break this monopoly. Their drivers are polite and helpful. They have gone over and above for me on numerous occasions. The customer service staff has always been professional and attentive. Last year our garbage collector yelled at my husband because he didn't give him a tip during the holidays. This year, assured of not getting a tip because of last year's yelling, our collector threw our can in front of our gate the day after Christmas and took the bungie cords we used to keep raccoons out. We pay to have our garbage collected and I know the collectors make a very good salary. If there was another option, we'd take it. read more

Our experience with Mill Valley Refuse dating back to 1991 has been excellent. We just moved from Mill Valley to Corte Madera and were delighted that Mill Valley Refuse will continue to be our garbage and recycling service provider. We're always had wonderful service from the pickup crews, who go above and beyond the call of duty to be helpful. For years one them picked up our newspapers from the driveway and tosses them up to the front door, and took a few extra moments every week to move our bins up the drive. When we moved, the office staff was great to deal with. The whole organization is an example of great personalized service. Two weeks ago they forgot to pick up our bottles and cans. No, biggie. Mistakes happen. When I called to report the issue, I was told it was too late and I'd have to wait it out for another two weeks. So, we had to keep the overflow in a bag, which then went up to the curb with the completely full bin on collection day. Problem is, they didn't take the overflow because it wasn't in the bin. When I pointed out that the bin was overflowing and couldn't take more, I was told that I needed to put excess bottles and cans into a hard plastic container in order for it to be picked up. What??? I have to go buy another plastic container in order for my overflow -- which was their fault in the first place -- to be collected? Or, I was told I can pay $25, which is essentially paying them twice to do the job. Customer service was utterly unhelpful and honestly, she felt like she was enjoying the power trip. I left two messages for the owner. Zero response. Time to report to the Better Business Bureau. read more

I am very frustrated by the lack of consistency of this company to pick up our recycling from an apartment complex in Mill Valley. Their reason: the driver has difficulty in making the turning radius into our driveway. Answer: they make a decision not to pick up the and empty the bins weekly. Shocking customer service with their accounts department. Moved and cancelled service and it was impossible to get refund owed. They encourage you to sign up for automatic bill pay on their website and then continue to deduct after service is cancelled. When calling to try and stop it they got incredibly rude, blamed me for setting it up on their website and said it would take 6 weeks to refund the $532 they had debited without the provided service. read more

My 80 year old mother lives in Marin and, as she's gotten older, she's gotten weaker and more frail. She called me recently, crying, that MVRS called her to inform her that she would have to pay EXTRA because she cannot physically drag her trash cans about 100 yards across a cement parking lot every week. I was actually convinced that my mother had to be wrong, as this is clear violation of ADA and this company is charging seniors and people with disabilities more for the same service. I called the company and they were shockingly rude and almost smug, making comments like, "Well, the City of Mill Valley approved it so..." as if that is some type of moral barometer. I contacted someone in Marin County government who looked into it but that didn't seem effective. Still VERY shocked and disappointed that this city agency is allowed to discriminate and financially prey on the elderly and disabled. What an embarrassment. I'm sad to say that my mother passed away recently but one of the by-products is that these morally deficient assholes will not get one more cent from me. *UPDATE-Thanks for your response, however, this was not my experience with your company. I was told repeatedly that my 80 year old mother had to pay an extra fee because she could not drag her garbage can across the full length of the parking lot. Your customer service person said her address had been "assessed" and this was the best you could offer. I understand why you wouldn't want this to be publicized as it doesn't make MVRS look very good. I contacted what I thought was your governing body in Marin County Govt. so hopefully they have contacted you as well regarding the ADA and it's application. read more

im a senior citizen. my garbage can is located down my driveway around 20 ft. my driveway is on an incline. today they didnt pick it up. i called. i was told that i have to now bring it to the curb. i asked why. the answer 'thats what we decided to do'. why? Lynda Mendoza and team provided a very price competitive quote and a level of service that we have not found with the other providers we have used in the past. Mill Valley Refuse has been a great company to work with! We use them every year for our school carnival. They are extremely professional, great to work with and provide excellent communication. The delivery and pickup was easy and the units delivered were in great shape. Also, they had a new delivery person who was excellent! Very courteous and prompt. We needed a storage container so I assumed the ubiquitous Pods were the best option. Wrong. Pods is a massive business and operates like one. They actually charge less if you allow them to take unit away/store/return it. Mill Valley offered bigger box for less $s and unlike Pods, they pro-rate. The drivers that dropped & picked-up container couldn't have been nicer too. read more
