Even though I had most of my belongings in plastic bins, some furniture had rat urine stains, it was terrible. Once Nora helped me, they moved me into another unit. What matters to me as much as the safety and security of my belongings, was working with Nora for over ten years. When my fiance and I moved into a condo with…read moreno garage, we decided to keep some of our belongings in storage (he builds cars as a hobby and there was nowhere in our home for all of the tools and tires). It was a short-term solution that should have been pretty uneventful, however, we found San Rafael Self Storage to be sub-par. Two major issues accelerated our choice to move things out quickly after we moved into our house. 1. Leak in the roof. We had our items in temperature controlled storage on purpose. In addition to car items, we also kept some keepsakes here. We were SO disappointed to find a leak had let a ton of water into our unit over the winter. Very thankfully we had our items in closed plastic bins, but this not only should not have happened, but when we reported it, their resolution was lack-luster ("you can move your things to another unit, but we do not promise there will not be leaks.") 2. Homeless people sleeping in the entry and using facilities. This is supposed to be secured storage -- we have to punch in a custom code every time we come and go. Unfortunately, the local homeless population seems to jump the (very low) barriers to the property and on several occasions I found people using the bathrooms to shower or sleeping in the building. In a facility that often has no onsite staff, such lax property security made me feel very uncomfortable being there alone or after dark. I'm not sure what better options are available, but I would certainly not recommend San Rafael Self Storage.

I really thought they were great at moving my items until I saw the size of the truck. The truck…read morewas too small and should not have been used for the amount of furniture I had. A year later I'm still finding damage when I get down on the floor to clean and I see chunks of wood missing from my table legs and white scrapes on the chair legs. This furniture was about six years old when they moved it, and I dusted and covered any dings regularly. I had regularly examined the furniture, but I didn't have kids at the home so it was in great condition. The supervisor complained that he didn't know that items in the garage were included in the move. He didn't think they had enough room, but he canceled the second truck, which they honestly should have used. He also wanted the guys to be off before 4, so it was very rushed. Then he overcharged me, but I did receive a refund after speaking to the business person. I'm very upset about the amount of damage I have found, but I'm not surprised because I couldn't figure out how they got all of it into the truck. I wish I had found the damage earlier, but I had water damage in the bathroom and I had to vacate my unit. One bedroom had to be packed and moved a month after I moved in. I had found some damage on a chair right after I moved, but I thought that was it and I should've checked everything better but I was depressed because of the water damage that happened four days after I moved in. Then my dog got sick with leukemia. He passed away a few months after I moved. Most of the guys were very nice but the supervisor had an attitude. I wasn't sure whether to put two or three stars, but because most of the fault is with the supervisor and not the moving crew, and because the business person took care of damage to my end table I am giving three stars.
