Julie was my introduction to the world of western music, and the journey with her has been great. We usually work on one or two pieces at a time. She also makes sure I get the basics right and so we practice sight reading and do some basic warmup exercises every class. So far I've tried different genres such as opera, christmas carols and musicals. We have fun-filled parties at Noteworthy music very often and it's always great to catch up with her other piano and voice students. I really look forward to our gatherings. Julie hasn't confined my music education to just classes. Last summer, we watched a number of musicals in community theaters in and around Omaha. The highlight of the year is our Christmas performance. We sang carols at a prominent hospital in the city last year. I really look forward to my musical journey with Julie, and highly recommend Noteworthy Music to anyone looking to take piano and voice lessons.

I've been going to this Guitar Center since 2011 and seen a lot of changes. They used to have a…read moredecent variety of high end Martin and Gibson guitars, but on my last visit there were very few high end guitars. They did have a large selection of low to middle price fretted instruments but some were not in the best shape. According to the Guitar Center web site, they had variety of guitarlele's and Cordoba Mini II guitars in stock. When I went to the store, they had one guitarlele with a broken 6th string, and one Cordoba Mini II Bass with bad fret buzz on the 1st and 3rd strings. If you are looking for musical accessories, they do have a large stock. But the problem is that on my last few visits the store was severely understaffed. So if anything you want is locked, or requires staff assistance, it can be very difficult to get help. Even paying for your purchases can be problematic, since there was only one register open when I visited and the two staff members behind it seemed more interested in talking with each other than helping customers. I know that corporate Guitar Center has ongoing financial problems, but they need to invest some money back into their stores to make the shopping experience better for customers.

Sharon taught me real vocal technique, especially how to use breath support, control my tone, and sing with more vocal awareness. My favorite style to sing is pop, and over the years I've had other teachers or professors tell me that pop music is "bad for your voice." Ironically, it was Sharon -- who sings opera -- who helped me realize that pop can absolutely be sung in a healthy way with proper technique. That perspective stayed with me and helped me sing in the style I love without strain or guilt. Even now, the things I learned from Sharon have helped me better understand vocal function from a clinical perspective. She really knows how the voice works, and because of that, I trust that anyone she brings on to teach at SNJ knows what they're doing too. The lessons were absolutely worth it -- what I learned has stuck with me for years, and I still use those techniques both in my singing and in grad school. If you're looking for a place that teaches healthy, lasting vocal technique this is 100% a worthwhile choice.

Our son has been doing voice lessons and the guy teaching him is very flexible and willing to work with our schedule if something comes up. Terry is a good guy and our son has certainly improved working with him. I don't have anything but good things to say about SNJ. If you have a creative child or are a creative child at heart, it might be worth checking out.

We finally stopped in at Wenninghoff's after two years of driving by and saying, "We should go…read morethere sometime." I'm glad we did! The market is packed with locally made and grown products. We picked up some sandwich pickles, local honey, and a massive seedless watermelon. Prices on some items were a little higher than expected, but given they're local, I didn't mind paying a bit extra--it feels good to support nearby farmers and makers. That said, there are a few things I'd probably skip. One thing to note: they add a $1 fee for card transactions, so if you want to avoid that, bring cash!

Mind you, I don't actually PLAY guitar, but I have gotten to a somewhat competent level at ukulele and baritone ukulele, and therefore I am craving the novelty of something new, that I can be bad at. I mentioned this to the woman working there, and she said "well, why don't you just take a class with John and he can teach you to build one"? Wow, this woman GETS ME. A total level up from what I was considering doing. I'm still thinking about doing this. But on this visit, I was just here to get a string, as moments earlier I had purchased a uke at a thrift store and it had a broken string. John had his assistant put on the string. He offered to show me how to put on the string, but since I already know (but just didn't have a string) I looked around the store and stroked a lovely cat on the counter. Which she enjoyed until she abruptly didn't, we know how cats are. Anyway, John wouldn't accept any money for the string or for the putting-on of the string. That was nice. Great place!

I've been looking for a new classical guitar instructor for over two years and Valley View Music actually had an excellent one. The classes are reasonably priced and I love their online lesson system with integrated billing. I like to arrive to class a bit early so I'm glad that they have a large waiting room.
