I'll begin on a positive note. The staff and service were amazing. The food was wonderful. Thank you to our server Lisa for your amazing service. Our room, however, was a let down from the time we opened the door. It truly felt and looked like a poorly maintained, very old cottage. We were excited to have a wood-burning fireplace in our room. There was literally two small pieces of wood stocked. Our next plan of course was to jump in the hot tub. The area was covered in snow and ice. They provided a Gorilla brand, two step, from a local hardware store to get in and out. It was literally covered in ice and unusable. We put a towel over it to step on it and get in. We put in the the bath tub to thaw out during dinner in hopes to use it more safely. The hot tub was a three person tub. One seat was missing the headrest with the fastener still attached. We couldn't use it. The water was so low that the upper jets were spewing air. It was VERY precarious getting in and out. I'm truly surprised they would risk the safety of their guests like this. They were also not private. We were looking at our neighbors in their tub. We left for dinner. I left the cover off for an hour. Got back to use the tub again to find it cold. I covered it for a couple of hours hoping it would heat up which it did not. We literally used it once when we arrived. The cover takes two people and needs to be completely removed and installed. All of this on a very icey surface. Other issues were: the very, very dated window coverings, the paint was chipped and peeling everywhere, the light fixtures were from a garage sale, as was the furniture. TV and internet was in and out all night. TV converters were dead. There was no knob to control the heat in the room despite the instructions on the sign provided. This was definitely NOT to the standards expected of a Vintages Hotel. I booked two nights complete with dinner and breakfast, however, after breakfast the first day, we cut our stay short and went home. The experience was a total disappointment for us. It is obvious that they took the Vintages Hotel name but not the quality. We were refunded for the cancelation and they deducted $100.
Horrible experience June 2024 I have been coming here for year and loved it, until today! I arrived to finding about 10 kids from 3-13 dominating the main pool and two hot tubs with toys/ floats, screaming and running around and the parents doing nothing. There was even a baby in a toddler, poolside crying. Not exactly a relaxing or ideal spa experience. If they are going to have weddings with an abundance of small kids, shut down the resort to others or give us a discount. I will be rethinking my future visits. My facial was fabulous and so was my meal/ bartender...but the rest was absolutely ridiculous and a waste of my time.
The restaurant's hostess is all the reason why this place should be avoided. She doesn't look at you when speaking to you, instead of "may I have your room number?" It is " room number" in monotone. She clearly does not want to work here. When asked for a napkin because there was spillage on the outside of the cup, she brought over one sheet, when asked for more, she brought over a single sheet again, with making very clear that we are being unreasonable. The facilities are old and poorly maintained, they say they're expanding to double their room capacity and add more pools but if they can't maintain at this size, how are they expected to maintain in the future? Expectations would have been managed if it was priced accordingly but I've stayed at much nicer for less. Diana at the restaurant was excellent, she was kind and was a net plus to our experience, but the rest of it was a disappointment
Review on the food: The food at Millcroft Inn & Spa is definitely 5-star worthy. Make sure you make a reservation for dinner at their in-house, Headwaters Restaurant! My date and I came here during Thanksgiving long weekend; that turkey dinner was PERFECT. The appetizers and dessert were also very delicious - we shared the seared scallops, ravioli (omg that sauce!), ruby beet soup, and a strawberry mousse dessert :) Breakfast AYCE style is also served at Headwaters Restaurant. You can include the breakfast package to your stay, or it will be $17 per person (I think). Nothing crazy about the breakfast, except for the omelette station :) made fresh to order! The scenic view from our seat is also breathtaking: waterfall and fall foliage everywhere! The fully-licensed cafe inside Millcroft Spa is the perfect spot to grab a quick bite or enjoy an afternoon snack after the spa treatment :) Our lovely server, Birgit is the sweetest; she is funny, accommodating, and we enjoyed her service! We shared a charcuterie board with a side of assorted breads, and a fruit-filled creme dessert full of rum (my fave!). . . . . Review on the stay: The room we stayed at had 2 floors: living room and washroom on the first, and bedroom on the second. The furniture, carpet and TVs were a bit dated. But nonetheless, a very clean place to stay for the night. I especially loved the heated floor inside the bathroom. It was also our first time using a REAL fireplace, burning REAL firewood... actually not really, we just burned the fire starter bar, the wood didn't even catch on fire hahaha. There are quite a few hiking trails on the premise, ranges from easy to hard. My favourite trail was to take a walk by the pond, waterfall and the orchard, check out my photos below :) You will also come across an outdoor wedding ceremony area, perfect for couples looking for a private, secret garden to host their wedding event. You can access the indoor and outdoor pools, hot springs, sauna, and exercise room via the Millcroft Spa building. I really enjoyed soaking in the outdoor hot spring while it is still cold out ;) . . . . Review on the spa experience: We opt for the Japanese Ofuro Treatment for Couples - Traditional Japanese bath ritual is known as the Ofuro. We began with an exfoliating body polish to remove dead skin, then a soaking phase for deep relaxation, and lastly a 50 minute body massage. The exfoliating part was probably the toughest to endure, I'm quite ticklish, and you're butt naked for this lol. The exfoliation gets pretty ROUGH too; you can certainly ask the massage therapist to tone it down a bit if it is too much for you. But damnnn, my skin was baby smooth after the soak and the oil massage. My massage therapist, Nicole, was very experienced. She guided the entire treatment from beginning to end. She knows how to use her pressure, and the massage was very enjoyable :)
In my opinion this is more of a 4.5-Star then a 5-Star. I would class this as an old fashioned country Inn & Spa. Not an inexpensive proposition but very nice nonetheless. A solid way to spend our 21st Anniversary with my amazing, incredible wife! In our opinion our dinner server Melody was very nice & efficient. She took the time to explain the menu to both us & the other patrons. We were seated in a small alcove that had only 4 tables of two, very intimate. The food...it's was definitely a 5-star for me & a 4-star for my wife. Mine consisted of a rather interesting salad that had sun-dried strawberries, blueberries & other greens. Unusual tasting but still good. The main was beef tenderloin that was cooked to perfection to my taste. Medium-well Chicago style. The side was mashed potatoes coloured with squid ink. Both unique & tasty. The loss of 1/2 star was as the result of my wife's incorrectly cooked steak with what she felt was excess salt. In the end they made us feel special & that's exactly what we were looking for. A special meal to celebrate a special event in our lives. A definite do-over.
My friend and I decided to come here for one night during reading week. It was the most adorable place and the people were so friendly from the moment we checked in. Depending where the spa is located with regards to your hotel room, it may require you to walk a short distance or drive (they have a parking lot). The hot tubs were very nice and there weren't too many people. The following morning, we opted for the buffet breakfast for an additional $17 per person. There was a great selection of food and had an omelette station as well. Overall, the Millcroft Inn and Spa was a very nice, relaxing getaway with very nice facilities. I would definitely return!
I came here last weekend for a relaxing spa day with my husband. Overall,we enjoyed our day here but I have to admit that the experience fell a bit short of my expectations in some aspects. Let's start with the positives: 1. My massage was great even though it was only 25 mins long 2. The staff member who called me regarding the RMT scheduled to do my massage being sick was professional and offered a few options. Complimentary day spa vouchers for future use were also offered as their way of saying sorry for the inconvenience of a shorter massage, which was a nice gesture. 3. The lounge area that we went into before getting our massages was tranquil and had numerous complimentary teas to try 4. The hot spring areas were relaxing even though they were small 5. The charming afternoon tea experience ($29 per person) in the Headwaters restaurant was great as the sandwiches, scones, jams and little desserts were all delicious. 6. There were cute trails towards the waterfall and viewing areas Room for improvement: 1. The change room was poorly designed as it had only 2 working washroom stalls which was annoying as there were always about a dozen of us women that needed to use it each time I went in. The lockers were placed inconveniently as well and there were not enough areas to put belongings down on. 2. The upstairs lounge room seemed to be very guarded as anyone who was about to go up there was questioned about whether they had a massage or service booked. That area really should be accessible to people using the day spa facilities as well since coming here isn't cheap! 3. The indoor pool area could use some updating as it seemed nice enough upon first glance but after looking more closely, it's a bit run down 4. I wish the outdoor hot spring areas and pool were larger (more of them would be great) as it seemed a bit crowded at times, making the experience less relaxing 5. A bit expensive for the massages considering that the facilities are cute enough but aren't as nice as the other Vintage hotels. Overall, I still enjoyed my day here but I have to say that after experiencing the Niagara-on-the-Lake Vintage hotels and spas, this one paled in comparison. It was worth a visit once to experience their spa in a rural setting but I likely won't return again as I feel the other properties had better amenities and were more relaxing.
The good: excellent customer service from Carolyn, wonderful massage with Braden, great Aveda products, complimentary tea and granola in lounge after treatment, comfy robes provided, lovely pools and sauna, plenty of outdoor seating. The bad: children allowed in spa/pool areas (even though there is signage that says "quiet area"), lack of vegetarian options in cafe.
I finally stay at this lovely country inn that has been operating since I was a young girl, when my parents used to take me for lunch . . . The inn is beautiful on Shaws Creek with the waterfall as the feature, and wooded, historic grounds. Great for walks, and photo ops, plus 100 acres for more hiking and tranquility. Our nicely decorated room on the 2nd floor of the inn was roomy with a high ceiling, a tall, comfortable bed, and two large windows that looked out to the falls and the creek. The bathroom was well appointed with gold plated accent taps, Grohe fixtures in the bath, and a great towel warmer. Toiletries were Gilchrist & Soames which are good, but since the Spa is Aveda concept, I would expect Aveda toiletries. Touches such as thick robes, bottled water and a turndown service still exist here with a beautiful rose left on the bed. Sunset-coloured roses are a beautiful touch throughout the inn and restaurant. The Spa has a wonderful accoutrement of teas, waters, magazines, newspapers and snacks in the lounge. The technicians are clearly Aveda trained with their procedures and extra touches. The spa change room has more roses, thick towels, beautiful glass sinks and showers with body wash, shampoo and conditioner. Very relaxing with both an indoor and outdoor pool, swirl pool and infra red sauna. The spa cafe wasn't open, but is a good idea, poolside. The gym has a basic selection of cardio machines and free weights, TV, water and towel service. The first night we enjoyed Headwaters lounge overlooking the mill pond with comfy outdoor couches and coffee tables. Service was super friendly and attentive. It's nice to see Growers cider ($7.00) on their drink list. A bread basket was served before our appetizer-based dinner. The charcuterie and cheese plates were quite good. Other appys to add to make for a dinner for two made for a great, relaxing evening, but it easily comes to over $100 for food and drink. Bring bug spray . . the Mosquitos were biting. The second night we enjoyed dinner in the pod overlooking the Falls. Again, excellent service. Beautiful view. I started with the pea purée with grilled Lake Simcoe whitefish ($14.00), and that was perfectly presented and deliciously cooked. Then came the strip loin ($41.00), ordered medium well, but it came more well done. For this price I would switch it out for a tenderloin cut (and put out Frette linens and Peugot pepper grinders on the tables for this price - being picky here). The extra ($10.00) side of mushrooms was a delicious variety predominantly chanterelles and oyster mushrooms. We shared a dessert (Marcuya - well presented and delicious, in Brazilian colour theme related to the soccer matches at the time), paired with two Nuts & Berries after dinner drinks ($11.00 each). Buffet breakfast is glorious and and unrushed if you can make it before it closes at 10am. Greaves jam from Niagara-on-Lake is available in little jars. There is salmon lox, yogurt, granola, cereals, pastries, various breads to toast, good bacon, meaty sausages that are not greasy, and scrambled eggs that are good, among other offerings. What I noticed throughout the two day stay was that service is very attentive and congenial. For example we had a cold shower due to a boiler breakdown the second morning and they apologized profusely and then comped our breakfast. This place is expensive overall. Dinner first night was over $100, second night over $200 with cider, wine by the glass, desserts and after dinner drinks. But the relaxing setting, excellent spa treatments, luxury touches and service make this a "treat" getaway.

I was here for a family wedding in July. The property was stunning. The wedding ceremony was very scenic in the wedding garden with the lake. The cocktail hour and reception were in different locations. The reception was in the River Room which was near the waterfall. The food was delicious and local, especially the quinoa encrusted salmon and the goat cheese fritter with wild blueberry compote. The staff were very friendly and helpful. I would definitely recommend booking this place for a wedding! read more

My friend and I decided to come here for one night during reading week. It was the most adorable place and the people were so friendly from the moment we checked in. The atmosphere is perfect for a fall weekend where all the colours are changing, with a backdrop of waterfalls and a lake/pond. I used to come here with my family as a kid and nothing has really changed in over 20 years (not sure if that's good or bad) The review is for the restaurant. The food is excellent, with a diverse menu that suits many tastes. The only downfall was the service We had booked for 1:00pm but needed to push it to 2pm. When we called, they said "sure sure we can do that" but then we were wondering how they can without asking our name and reservation details. When we got there, there was no hostess for at least 5-10 mins. I started walking around the resto when a lady came by in a huff. Told us and the people behind us to wait in the lobby because they are very busy. It was probably 2:15pm at this point. In addition, we clearly saw our last name and table on their seating chart, un-highlighted. Being impatient and annoyed, I started walking around the resto, to see where this supposed table was and the hostess literally shouted at me to go wait in the seating area. I found this unnecssary and rude. Yes, they are busy, but should you not have aniticpated this on Thanksgiving Monday? They've been in business for so long. THey set up a table for us on the opposite end of the restaurant because they could not accomodate us even though we requested a view. We sat down, no plates, only napkins and cutlery, no menus. I was frustrated, and instead of waiting til they came (who knows when) I went to get the menus myself. We got some nice bread to start, but no bread plates, they needed to set that up as well, after we got it. Appetizers came quickly, and was delicious. The Aspargus Brie mousse was interesting, not something I'd order again. The calamari on a bed of spinach was really good, flavourful and not charred. We asked the server to take a photo of the group, and the first time in my life she refused (but came back much later in the meal) as she was very busy. We got our mains, I had a handmade parpadelle with feta, sundried tomatoes, mushrooms, (it said peaches and cream, but I did not see it in here). It was really tasty. The White Fish Esabeche was also very good, with a savoury but sweet sauce which I could not pinpoint the ingredients but I think was jalapeno. It did take a while for the mains to come out. For dessert, we had the Chocolate Pavlova with a Passion Fruit Marshmellow, I had this Citrus (why citrus? is it an orange, lime, lemon, all??) Tart, with Grand Marnier soaked bisquit, sesame flake and padane ice cream. Very tastey except the soaked liquer cookie was not incoporated enough in each bite, and became this bitter after taste, seemed to ruin the consistency of the dessert. It was my mother in law's birthday, so I asked for a candle and something special on the cake, dessert she was going to get. They did do something, but no candle. Overall, yes come here, but don't expect much in terms of service (I would expect more from an establishment of this calibre nonetheless). read more

Loved this place from the first sight! If you are looking for a quiet, unique and stylish place to relax away from the city-this is the place to go and recharge! Stylishly decorated rooms (choose Manor house) with renovated bathrooms, delicious fancy cuisine in the dining room (both dinner and breakfast), and finally the spa! Customer service is excellent through out the resort. Peace, quietness and nature! Can't wait to go and check it out during fall/summer season! read more

Great experience just outside Toronto! We enjoyed a day pass to the spa that was $80 per person for the entire day! We enjoyed the saunas and outdoor heated pools. We ate at the restaurant at the Inn which turned out to have fantastic food. The crab cakes were amazing! Recommend for a small weekend or day getaway. read more

This is a lovely Inn and Spa with a great restaurant in it. They have a fabulous wine list and great food. The ambiance is terrific. The staff are professional wait staff and know how to take care of you. It's pricey but quite good! read more

This restaurant has THE BEST Steak I have eaten in my whole life!! We go monthly for the Beef Tenderloin w/ mashed potatoes, mushrooms & veggies! It is pricy but worth it! Great atmosphere, yummy complimentary bread(Have AMAZING Gluten Free Bread that they know to bring instead of real bread) Also get a complimentary small appetizer(diff every time) as well as a complimentary dish to cleanse your palate. It's well worth the drive. Again, BEST FOOD I've EVER eaten! read more
