But now that Yelp has shown me the magic of smaller businesses, we looked around and found a Rodda down the road. We stopped in on a Thursday morning to find some samples and we're so glad that we did! We have now been in three times. The first two to find some samples and the third to place the large order for all the paint we will need to paint the interior of our house (GULP!) The staff here were so helpful. All three times we have been in, it has been the same lady and gentleman working and both of them have been awesome. They answered all our questions, without hovering or trying to make big sales. On my second trip in, I was looking for a paint that was somewhere in between two other colors and the gentleman poured over all their paint chips to find me the perfect one! And sure enough, that's the one that's going up on our walls! They advised us on the type of sheen to get for the three different colors (we have to do ceiling, walls AND trim...double GULP) and which ones would be the most durable to hold up against Hurricane (1 years old). The told us couldn't do it at that store and sent us to another. 5 stores later and never once offering to call ahead, even when we called ahead they told us they could, only to arrive and be told they could not an eventually be told we were told we were out of luck. We thought about and decided they are not the only paint store in town and went to Benjamin Moore, it was a whole different vibe walking in, it was friendly and welcoming, we worked with Ken and felt Ken actually wanted to help us accomplish our goal. While this specific store also could not do the match (we need and oil based lacquer), he called around until he found a store that could. When we arrived at the next store, they were also super friendly and welcoming. This was such a different experience. As I'm struggling to hold my 40lb 2yr old to comfort him, the guy asked if he was mad about something or was hurt. I already had judgy eyes on me and whispering from other customers and this guy furthered my embarrassment by doing this. I'm sure he was trying to be helpful but it didn't make me feel better when he drew more attention to an already embarrassing situation. However, I would discourage anyone from ever visiting this store due to their unethical business practices. When I first was here I spoke to James, who gave me some good recommendations as far as paint brand goes, he seemed personable and knowledgable. He then recommended I get 2 Gallons of paint for a small 135 sq ft room (I made clear that I was not looking to paint the ceiling, trim, or closet), which I did not question at that time due to this being my first paint project. He said that should mostly cover it with some paint leftover... Once I decided which colors I wanted to go with I came back to this store and spoke again to James, this time the store manager Annie was present too. Both were friendly while assisting me, and after they clarified for a second time the square footage of the room (I reiterated that it was a small room of 135 sq ft, and that I was not looking to paint ceiling, trim, or closet, just the walls), they ended up selling me the aforementioned 2 Gallons of paint and another 1 Gallon of paint for an accent wall. Little did I know at that time that this was way, way too much paint... After the project was finished I was shocked to find out that I had about 1.5 Gallons leftover of the main paint color (with one of the Gallon containers completely unused and unopened), and most of the other color. I realized that they had severely oversold me. So I packed up the unused can and the partial used one and headed over there a couple days later. Neither James nor Annie were in that day, but instead a guy that filled in for them named Isaiah. I explained my situation to him and he too seemed to be puzzled at how much paint they had recommended and sold to me, and admitted it was indeed way too much paint since one of those Gallon cans is supposed to cover 300-400 sq ft. He then proceeded to explain that they would not be able to refund the 1 Gallon I had not even used, due to it being "tinted". He also said that particular brand of paint they only seem to have in 1 Gallon cans, so that would explain why I got a whole Gallon for the accent wall, however, they could have easily recommended to get a Quart of a similar color of another brand or something, but their goal was very clearly to sell me as much paint as possible. Isaiah suggested I leave the unused can with the receipt and my name and phone number so he could explain the situation to the store manager Annie, who was supposed to be there the next day, in order to possibly find some kind of solution. Two days later, I did not receive a call, nothing. I also checked my account balance just in case they unexpectedly refunded a portion of the purchase, but no. Basically these people flatout lied to my face and did it with a smile, and no attempt at all to make it right, not even a store credit. And they still have that can of unused paint which I had left there upon Isaiah's recommendation, which I am not going to retrieve after this disaster, I never want to see these scammers again. If there ends up being some kind of response to this review by them I would not believe a word they are saying, they demonstrated so clearly that they have no hesitation to lie to their customers even in person. My recommendation is to stay far away from this store, I'm sure there are paint stores in the area with ethical business practices.

Their cut ins to the existing ceiling paint were exceptional. They removed and replaced all light fixtures, wall plates, vents, etc to create a very professional and finished end product. They were tidy, prompt each day, communicative, enjoyable to have around, and took great pride in their work. I will 100% call on them again when I need any future painting projects tackled. Highly recommended. If you're getting bids, do yourself a favor and include B&K in your research. You'll be glad you did!

They finished painting in 2 weeks. I saw my unfinished house. I was impressed with the paint job…read more(specifically some of the fine lines they painted and caulking), but some things were missed and both estimator and I agreed it was very unfinished. I was out of town 1 week, during which, 5-Star had full access (with key and garage door opener) to my house and my permission to enter without me there. For that time and the next ~3 weeks, they canceled on me 6 times and nothing was done. I had to reschedule once by 12 hours b/c project took so long and to complications with roommates (near end of this timeframe) Next, I get the rudest phone call I have ever received from a company. The call was the estimator and they start pressing me for payment because it has been so long and they haven't received the second half of the payment despite the work being incomplete(contract stated 50% upfront, 50% after completion). After about 20 minutes of trying to work it out with this guy and have a reasonable conversation, I could tell he wasn't listening to a word I was saying. My girlfriend overhead a fraction of the conversation and said "Wow, I would never talk to a customer that way" and then proceeded to apologize for the next hour because she "Didn't realize I was going through things like that." Eventually got in contact with Craig (edit: he's ex-owner and very recently started handing things off to a new owner) and dealt with him over another week or two when things got done. Craig was nice, but I guess I never was in contact with the owner, which I specifically requested to talk to. I guess that just shows readers how disorganized this whole thing was. As far as the 'free work' goes, during painting house curtains were taken down, doors were taken down, painted, then put back up. After put back up 2 closet doors and 1 room door no longer shut. I texted short questions like (paraphrase) "hey I noticed, these doors don't shut, also curtains still down, also tops of door trim not painted, will you fix?", got super rude phone call above. Very next conversation (first convo with Craig), I said I honestly wasn't sure and DID NOT ASK THEM TO FIX THESE ISSUES. I DID NOT EVEN ARGUE THESE ISSUES. I did have them fix 1 door (to the room) because I was confident that issue was new Most of the rest of 5-Star's response is inaccurate. Both invoice and estimate are short (looking at it now) Invoice is 1 item. Estimate has 2 items caulking and paint, but specifically mentions an exclusions (non of which are issues with this paint job. caulking is separate line item). The overwhelming majority of items were overspray, missed or thin paint, paint trash, or things not being re-installed at all (there's even photos that prove 5-star took these things down or were the cause). So debatably, I got 1 'free' door adjustment. Everything else is well within what most people would consider a reasonable thing to ask to get rectified
