On the busy streets of Dame, we passed by and wanted to try this spot as we were leaving the Trinity College. It was tucked in among many food and attraction places but it still stood out to us as a unique place of its own. Inside had a rustic feel and though not spacious was warm and inviting and gave an at home feeling. We were seated in a corner close to the bar and stairs at a table of 2. Our server was very friendly . I thought it was great how they served us sparkling water and distilled water in large glass containers that we could pour into our glass cups. We decided to try the Stuffed Yorkshire Pudding which had a nice mix of cut beef pieces with mushrooms and onions in a creamy sauce inside a bread like bowl. And it came with a mix spring salad. Very tasty. We also tried the slow roasted Wicklow lamb shank and it was melt in your mouth good. So juicy and I enjoyed it with the mash potatoes and gravy. Wonderful restaurant with a separate Celiac friendly menu. My husband and I split the gluten free seafood chowder and the gluten free fish and chips and it was delicious. The portion size for the fish was big. We came on a Thursday night and didn't have a reservation but we were seated quickly - we just ended up sitting upstairs versus downstairs. While walking around Dublin we came across The Millstone. After taking a peak at the menu we decided to give it a go. We were warmly greeted and promptly seated. Niki ordered an Aspell cider, a favorite on this trip. I ordered a stout which I prefer while in the UK. For lunch I ordered the Irish Seafood Chowder and Guinness beef Stew and Niki ordered the steak sandwich with fries. Our order was delivered in a reasonable amount of time. The chowder was creamy and packed with seafood. I had a few chowder on this trip and this was my favorite, simply delicious. The beef and Guinness Stew was topped with a pillow of mashed potato and toast. The Guinness shines through in this Stew which is seldom the case and very welcome since it adds a deeper dimension to this lovely beefy dish. I am happy tonreport that Niki enjoyed her beef sandwich very much. I would highly suggest when in the area to give this restaurant a try. Staff, food, and drink are all exceptional here. read more

We found the Millstone when a restaurant around the corner wouldn't seat us. Fortunately for us it was a win. We had some of the better meals at the Millstone while on vacation. My wife had the Irish stew and it was excellent! My peppercorn ribeye was equally as good. The servers were super friendly and attentive. We stopped in there during our day as they advertised a Michelin on the restaurant, so we made a reservation. The people here are rude, we made reservations and they have our table to other people. They tried to cram Im us into a area where they had a big party starting, we waited for quite some time and not a single person came to even take a drink order. The big party showed up and they just started to cater to them and ignore us. After a while more- we just got up to leave and they were indignant towards us. Save yourself the trouble and pick another place that not only honors reservations but treats customers with respect. There cannot be any way a place like this has a rating when they cannot treat or handle their customers with honor or respect. Don't waste your time there. read more

Visiting Ireland was a blast, and this was our welcome dinner that consisted of so much yummy food, including dessert! The staff was so friendly (I am now friends with one of the servers) and the food was well seasoned. A good amount of options all around that fit a lot of different diets and kept us very full. I had the crispy calamari as a starter and they do not skimp on the squid, they were the size of onion rings and were covered in the perfect amount of breadcrumbs. For my entree, I had the salmon which was cooked perfectly. We also can't forget about dessert! The crème brûlèe was smooth and creamy. Definitely a spot to visit when in Dublin! read more

This is the worse restaurant I've ever eaten at. I ordered a Milstone Nacho; when it arrived, it was cold and the Nachos was stuck to the cold cheese which was plastered to the plate. You couldn't even pull the Nachos away from the rest of the dish. I tried to talk with the waitress, Jennifer byt she brùshed me off so I told her to get me a to-go order of Onion Rings. When they came, they were tĥrown into a brown paper bag hot grease and all. By the time I got home, the paperbag was soaked in grease. I called back to soeak with a manager and she too blew me off. Everyone agreed this would be our last time going to this restaurant. Three out of the four of us today didn' enjoy our food. read more

The millstone has come recommended to us and while we didn't have a reservation, the millstone seated us almost right away. Loved the decor! Very pretty, vintage feel! I had looked up the menu before we went and they had some vegetarian options (something most steakhouses in the US don't have). I ordered the tomato soup and crostinis. My husband ordered the steak. He hasn't stopped talking about the steak since we had dinner. He said it was like slicing through butter and so flavorful. Had it been entirely up to him, we would have had dinner here every night. In fact, when we were in London, he contemplated flying back to Dublin just for the steak. In case you are wondering about the mom steak elements, my food was also really good. The soup was delicious as were my crostinis. The next time we are in Dublin, we'll be back. And you can bet, my husband will be sending our friends here as well. read more

I got the vegetarian lasagna which was good but not as good as my Mam's take on it - I will make it for you someday. The guy playing the keyboard was a fun tacky touch, good singer... He pretty much made it through most of the Beatles tunes by the time we finished our meal. I thought it was a tad pricey even though I wasn't paying. Roughly €15 and that did not include sides. Service was great but I felt we were asked too many times was everything OK and whether we wanted dessert etc. Would I go back? It might seem odd to write a review of this place when I've only been there twice and ordered the same item both times, but I must say their butternut squash soup is one of the best I've had in Dublin - and it's a great value at €4.50! My friend and I have been here twice and both walked out the door feeling full from just the soup alone (and the 2 pieces of bread it comes with). See photo. Service has been very nice both times. I've only been there midday so cannot comment on service or atmosphere for dinner, although the other reviews sound nice. Would recommend the place to a friend and will probably go back myself. The Millstone restaurant is a sister restaurant of Miller's Pizza Kitchen on Baggot Street, so they have the same great pizzas and much more besides. The restaurant itself is funky, with piped music coming out the door as you walk by on the street. It's very cool inside with an almost French feel to the old building. I was here for Valentine's dinner with some friends and we had a great meal. Lots of fun, roses from the waiters, and fantastic food. They have a much larger menu than Miller's which includes steaks and more seafood. Pizza's just slightly cheaper than Baggot Street (€16-18) but other main courses are expensive. Sides are separate too. We were really fussed over and had a lovely night. Keep it in mind for dinner in town. read more

I was very impressed with Millstone... this was one of the best meals I had while I was in Dublin. I ordered cheesy garlic bread for an appetizer. The presentation was great and the bread was very, very good. For my entree, I got a surf and turf style meal, which was a filet with shrimp and lobster claws. The filet was super tall, yet still cooked perfectly medium rare (not an easy task). The shrimp was also really good. The only weak part of the meal were the lobster claws, which lacked flavor until I dumped them in the garlic butter. Overall it was an amazing meal in a very nice restaurant. I have two minor complaints. First, they don't give free refills on pop. That's just lame, especially for a nicer restaurant. Second, the live music was like a poor man's Wesley Willis (look it up) playing this super cheesy electric keyboard. Kind of goofy. read more

I went veggie for main with a goat cheers Wellington covered with béchamel sauce. Was so good too. Just deducting a star for the service with our big table. Usually I try to avoid tourist traps like the plague, so the Millstone was never high on my list. Having friends over from Holland brought me here nonetheless, as they wanted to try typical irish cuisine and I didn't want to bring them to a random pub. The Millstone has that old fashioned cozy feel and some live music on the background. The early bird/ set menu here is superb value. 20€ for two courses and 24€ for 3. Add a fiver after 7. There is plenty of choice on it too. The dishes that came out looked nothing but AMAZING. The chef in this place definitely has a very creative side to him. (see my portobello mushroom photo! No-one ever made a mushroom dish look so arty!) The dishes were big and tasted very good, I was very impressed I have to say. Service was very friendly and attentive. My only slight complaint is their winelist, glasses are over 7 euro and bottles starting from around 30 euro. But that's what happens in tourist central I suppose. read more

First time visiting this restaurant & it definitely won't be the last! Myself and my colleagues had the early bird menu which was great value at €24.95 for 3 courses or €19.95 for 2 courses. I had the Baked Portobello Mushroom for starter, this was one of the tastiest mushroom dishes I have ever had. The mushroom pate was unreal. For mains I had the Oven Baked Irish Salmon and Lemon Sole, which came served with crushed baby potatoes. At first I though the portion was a bit small but I can honestly say I was stuffed after it. One of my colleagues had the Traditional Beef and Guinness Stew, which looked & smelled amazing. As an Irish Country girl a good stew is one of my favorite dinners & I had serious food envy!! I will be making a return visit to try this for sure. Overall I was pleasantly surprised at this place, I honestly was expecting it to be a typical tourist restaurant, however the standard of food is above this. This was a great find! The restaurant had a cozy vibe but we didn't feel crammed in with the people nearby. The food was amazing and the 2 course set menu deal was a great value. My friend and I dined for a total of €60 for two courses and a drink each. My only complaint is that the service was a little disorganized. All the food came out very quick because any available waitstaff seemed to come service our table. However, when it came time to pay we sat for a while and finally ended up flagging down someone for a check because we weren't sure who the waiter in charge of our table was. read more

this is where I bring fam & friends when they're visiting Dublin. It has got to be one of the most underrated restaurants around -- it's not trendy or flashy, but offers consistently great food & service. the early bird dinner menu is great value for 3 courses, and showcases local foods and products beautifully. for the starters, you can't go wrong with the seafood chowder or smoked salmon parcels. Though not Irish, the stuffed Yorkshire pudding with Hereford beef is also a good choice. there's a wide selection of entrees / mains to suit different tastes -- I personally love their steak (undecided about which cut? get the tasting plate), pork loin & lamb belly. To end the meal, I'd recommend the bailey's cheesecake, the creme brulee (but mostly because I just love creme brulee!) or one of their liqueur coffees. Service is attentive and knowledgable, always with great recs for wine pairings. There's live music there most nights, but it's more background music so you'll be able to have a chat during your meal. As a bonus, it's located in the heart of the City Centre. even those not familiar with Dublin are unlikely to get lost, and after the meal, there's loads of options for drinks nearby. read more

I had a table booked two weeks in advance for a party of 11 people at 8:15. We still were not seated by 9pm. My party consisted of my two elderly grand parents who were left standing for that longevity. When I confronted the manager he never once apologised instead he gave me a dirty look & shrugged his shoulders. Evidently he should not be working in the hospitality sector. Lunch here is very good, and it is a great little spot. I wasn't aware of it until I saw it from the higher floors of the Central Bank building during a visit. We went here last Thursday night. I had the prawn cocktail to start, which was huge, and came with 3 large crab claws. Unfortunately the crab claws seemed to have been badly frozen, as they were pretty tasteless and had been soaked in lemon juice. I was pretty happy with it though. My boyfriend had the butternut squash soup which he said was very nice. I had the vegetarian mushroom tart, which again, was nice enough if not for the fact that the mushooms (the most important part) had been soaked in balsamic vinaigrette which overpowered any other flavours including the mushrooms themselves. My boyfriend has a thai curry pizza which was very tasty though. I think I'd get a pizza if I went here again. I do think that I'll return - I think that I just made a couple of bad choices with my meal. The cocktails we had were very good. I went here with some work colleagues for lynch today. They have a great lunch menu, one course and a soft drink for €10 or two courses plus a soft drink for €15. I chose the Irish cheeseburger which came with tomato, pickle, choice of cheese, shoestring fries and garlic mayonnaise. The burger was enormous and delicious and several hours later, I am still full. Others in the group ordered the chicken foccacia and the club sandwich which also looked great. I am a huge fan of this place and have been going here for years. It is just perfect for every type of occasion, I have been here on a first date, on an anniversary, with my parents, with my in-laws and with friends, it seems to cater for all. The atmosphere here is perfect, it is so cosy and relaxed and welcoming. The staff are fantastic and just let you get on with things, very helpful but not in your face or always hovering around. Last time I was here there was an amazing guitar player singing away entertaining the guests. The early bird menu is super and such great value but the main reason I come here is because of the food. It is delicious and good proper fill you up portions, I always leave here stuffed, but always leave room for dessert because they are gorgeous here, especially the apple crumble. Another reason I love this place so much is the excellent vegetarian choices on the menu, we are well catered for with interesting and tasty choices, not a boring pasta dish in site, but instead creative soups, giant stuffed portobello mushrooms and what they cannot do with goats cheese I don't know, as every goats cheese dish I have tried here has been divine. I even had a main dish with tofu and chocolate sticks, now you don't find that very often in Dublin. I have never had a bad experience here and everybody whom I have brought here has fallen in love with it and come back for more. I am sure you will too. read more

There was a pianist nestled in the corner not far from the table which added to the ambience of the evening! The food is always beautiful and for €25 for two courses, you can't go wrong. Not only are you getting exceptional good quality, service, and ambience; you are also getting a glimpse into old world Dublin. You're likely to find a few familiar Dublin faces. I love the Millstone on Dame Street. This was the first restaurant I was brought to for a proper lunch specifically for my diet. It happened to be a date and he was making a great impression. I walked in and was handed a completely separate menu and informed they made their own bread. I was in heaven. Since then I have been here many times for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. They have a lunch deal on for €10 where you get a main course and tea, coffee, or a soft drink. Included in this menu is a steak sandwich on their gluten free bread! They haven't disappointed me at any time of the day, food-wise anyway. I would recommend making sure you're not sitting at the table under the stairs, I bumped my head on it a few times, including on my birthday of all days! I went in a few weeks ago for dinner with friends. We were seated quickly. Because we opted not to have starters we were waiting a while for the food, but that was our own fault. They generally only have a limited number gluten free menus, that I know of, in circulation. Myself and the other half were asked to give one back when we were choosing our dinner because they were short. It's not the first time we've been asked to hand one back so it's worth noting that if they're busy they need more menus. Anyway, the food is great and the staff are always friendly. We had lamb and shepherd's pie for mains and a brownie and crème brûlée for dessert. They normally have gluten free apple pie, but had run out on this occasion. The beauty about their menu is they have a full menu to choose from and not a selection from the main menu. Makes you feel normal! I totally need to go in here for brunch again soon! Wonderful meal stared with the the mussels which came in a tomato and chorizo sauce and the stuffed Yorkshire pudding, both were very good the mussels could have served two people. The each had the roast goat cheese Wellington that was nicely done. Vegetarian as no meat is included, vegetables where cooked perfectly as was the Wellington crust. Cerne brûlée for dessert which had a nice fresh fruit topping. And a lovely wine was a plus. The service was very good. Everyone was attentive and helpful read more
