We visited Millstone for dinner during our time in Dublin and the food was terrible. My husband and son ordered mussels and cottage pie off of the early bird menu. The mussels were served in a red sauce, which wasn't very good. The bread had a wad of herbs inside that wasn't appealing. The cottage pie, one of our favorite foods, was overly rich and just not appetizing. I ordered the ricotta pasta and it was downright terrible. Our waiter never bothered to come back to the table or I would have sent the pasta back. The best thing about dinner was the live music and filtered water. Save your money and go elsewhere. read more

An unplanned stop at this place turned into an amazing meal. The beef dishes here are phenomenal and the clam chowder is to die for. Prices are very fair and service is nice but slightly slow. First time here and not my last Arrived on a rainy day for brunch with friends It was very quiet but I did like the decor ! Waiter was nice and patient as we had to wait a while for friends that was late . Brunch menu very good choice and I got pesto chicken was lovely , friends got eggs benidics was lovely . Food very good, service from Ingrid was delightful, prices pretty reasonable for the great ambiance. So what's not to like? A guitar playing entertainer who REFUSED to tone down his overamplified singing and playing. Fine Irish singing voice but an ego bigger than all outdoors...when will musicians realize that in a restaurant the customers are NOT THERE for a 'free show'. The food, company, conversation and ambiance are EVERYTHING. How would the manager or singer feel if I went to their homes and played MY choice of music at MY level of amplification?? My Millstone meals (yes I came back for more) gave me a much needed boost after surviving many days of dumbo repetitive pub food and sad attempts at foreign cuisine. Tastes gluten free dinner with a dedicated (albeit limited) dinner menu. Prices were higher than expected but on par with Dublin in general. Staff were awesome! Super friendly and helpful made great recommendations. Overall a good choice, and would return for lunch or a group meal. This place has the best fish and chips. The fish was coated in a mustard coating before being battered and fried, giving it a zesty spin on typical fish and chips. The fries or "chips" were thick cut and freshly fried, and compliment the fish perfectly. The next time I go back to Ireland, this place will be my first stop. read more

Good appetizer of Salmon with shrimp. Chicken Kiev was disappointing, well fried and crispy but no kiev. A waiter who was in a hurry (only 2 other people in the restaurant ) did not get our wine order right and put my tasted glass of wine back into the fridge! We'll see how the cheesecake is. read more

i discovered this restaurant by accident, but sheer fate , i discovered a gem . The atmosphere reminded me of a restaurant i visited in Sienna, very rustic and homely. I was converted to add as one of my favourite restaurant, which i visited often to have a good review, the staff are very attentive and courteous, and they always greet the customers both regulars and new, the meals are fantastic especially the beef ,which, i think its their magnum opus, I'm impressed with the barman in doing and making an effort to perfect the pouring of vermouth, according to Noël Coward, "A perfect Martini should be made by filling a glass with gin, then waving it in the general direction of Italy". ill definitely going back again ...its the le taillevent of dublin. read more

I ate here with family and I can not fault it! Good food & a lovely selection of wines. Decor was fabulous, very inviting and makes for a nice spot if celebrating a special event like a birthday or anniversary. This is a little gem for brunch! I dont think many of the cities brunchers think of this place as it can be quite dark and not an obvious choice for the hipsters of Dublin BUT if you are looking for a delicious slap up brunch at a very reasonable price you MUST try here!! They have all the usual brunch dishes but the portions are much bigger which is something I am very appreciative of when going to brunch starved after a night on the town. You wont pay more than €10 for a dish and the muffins the various egg dishes come out on are so tasty and extremely filling! The atmosphere would be my only disappointment here. There simply isn't!! Its dark and there's no music playing or any sort of ambiance. I always feel like everyone can hear my conversation when I'm there (Could be just because I have a very loud voice) And for people in there 20's/30's it can be an older than this like much much older which is not necessarily a bad thing but if you are planning on having a boozy brunch and having the lols chatting about the night before this setting might not necessarily suit you. First time to visit the Millstone and I'm giving it a major thumbs up. Really cozy and homely, friendly staff and the most important bit, extremely nice good. There was a group of 12 for a work dinner and the service was very fast . I ordered the baked mushroom and the Salmon fillet for mains. I loved both dishes and had major food envy looking at everyone's dinner. The early bird for 25 euro for three courses is a bargain considering the high standard. The 2 course dinner specials are a pretty good deal - but expect to pay about 20 euro each, not including drinks. We came in because the piano player/singer was belting out the House of the Rising Sun and the music was piped out to the street. Great music and singing and the food was good but not great. Wow, I cannot believe this place has 4.4 stars. It was absolutely the worst dining experience I've had in a while and definitely the worst thing we ate in Dublin. Food was wretched. For appetizers the only thing that was good was the baked cheesy bread, which isn't saying much. I didn't care for the salmon parcel, maybe just a taste I didn't like. the mussels were in a marinara sauce that was bland and watery. I had the trio of Lamb for dinner. The lamb belly was the only thing edible. The other two, a tenderloin and leg if I remember correctly, were supposed to be seasoned differently but were both drenched in the same sauce that also came on the plate for dipping (the only way to eat the lamb was drenching it in the sauce). I love lamb but this lamb wasn't cooked properly. Barely charred, chewy seasoned poorly. It was easy to tell that it was not quality. The side was something of a vegetable and potato cake with an unbalanced seasoning that was frankly horrible. The server was rude and unprofessional. I have spent a lot of time in the restaurant industry and I understand that this man wasn't working for tips but it was unacceptable. I ordered a Cote de Rhone, which is a syrah- it should be bold, and spicy, very strong flavors. It tasted like cheap boxed wine and I'm fairly certain it wasn't even a Syrah. I ordered a new wine and told the server I wanted something bolder. He actually scoffed at me, then ran off and brought me another underwhelming wine without telling what it was or anything. I've worked at a lot of great restaurants. This place is not even close. if your going to spend the money, go to Ryan and FX buckley - that place rules. A group I was with had a little dinner party here while they had their Christmas menu. The restaurant is very warm and friendly, and I didn't think it felt nearly as stuffy as I had originally thought it would. The food was very good and came in pretty good portion sizes. Not too much to make you sick, but enough to fill you. I think that I have walked past Millstone many times and never noticed it before! My partner and I were strolling down Dame Street looking for somewhere nice but not expensive to have dinner and we stumbled across Millstone. We were in time for their early bird special and the menu selection was good; showcasing a wide selection of their menu options. The establishment its self was lovely- furnished with antiques and candles the mood was lovely even before a guartarist began to play! Stopped here in search for dinner around 9pm our first night in Dublin. Was pleasantly surprised with the outcome. Even with a small hiccup in our order (they ran out of an entree) the owner quickly fixed the situation and added in a round of drinks, without question. good GLUTEN FREE menu, however at the same time very underwhelming. gf garlic bread was just three pieces of plain gf bread lightly toasted with a wee bit of garlic butter on it. kind of expected a little more, especially considering the upcharge to be gf. family did the early bird set menu options, but when the bill came some things that we were told were included had been charged a la carte. oh well. food was fine, nothing special.... maybe my hopes were too high. their website says they make their own gf bread fresh in house -- highly doubtful or again, just underwhelming. i think the gluten eaters enjoyed their meals more than the celiacs. it is cool they have as many gf options as they do... also though, it didn't feel very irish. it was more like a general european vibe, which was fine. just not what we expected. read more

We just recommended Millstone Restaurant to our Alaskan friends since we had enjoyed our evening of dining, conversation and music with the establishment this past spring. The fireplace adds to the special ambiance. Service and food were perfect. Tommy Benn played guitar and sang -- a lovely traditional performance from a charming musician while we were there. Dining at the Millstone with a gig having Tommy Benn will be in our future travels once again. read more

My Fiance and I went here just before 10:30 on a Saturday night and they would not serve us. Their website lists closing time as 11:30PM, but the host said the kitchen was shut down. This seemed absurd to me for a Saturday night. read more
