The whole experience was seamless, I would recommend working with her.

This review is concerning my experience with taking the 'Prenatal w/ Partner One-Day Condensed…read moreEducation' class. At 35-weeks pregnant and not having yet any education on the labor and delivery process, I decided to sign up for Debra's one-day course designed for the birthing parent and their partner. It was very last minute, but I decided to do it out of desperation. WOW. I came out of the class knowing so much more than when I walked in. I was skeptical of how much I could absorb in just four hours, but Debra makes it possible. The content was perfect (course content at a high level includes labor and delivery, how partner can be involved and infant CPR) for what I needed to know; and Debra's teaching style made it very easy for me to comprehend. She makes it very clear from the beginning that the class is about how to advocate for yourself in a hospital setting. I do not have patience for a long, 8-week course so this condensed workshop version was really the thing I needed. If you're like me, don't hesitate and just sign up for the class. It was super engaging and fun. Debra has A LOT of knowledge and it's her passion to share. It's super obvious!

That's…read morewhen I decided to have a VBAC and thought that prenatal yoga would be critical in achieving an easier and natural birth. What I found was much more important than just a yoga class, I found a community! Debra is an amazing childbirth educator! I enjoyed the yoga classes because it wasn't just about yoga - it was about the whole birthing process. My husband and I also took her Hypnobirthing class which I HIGHLY RECOMMEND! Debra gives insight on all things birthing. When I talked to her about my VBAC plans, she recommended that I see Dr. Sancetta, who is widely known in the South FL community for VBACs. Sure enough, in my 34th week, after my initial consultation with Dr. Sancetta, I changed medical providers. My first baby came via c-section after a long 30 hour labor. I pushed for 3 hours and she never moved an inch. My doctor at the time told me that I had a "small" and "tight" pelvis which is why Baby #1 got "stuck". He told me that my subsequent labors most likely would go the same way and I might always have a hard time delivering naturally. Fast forward 18 months, and I was able to achieve my natural and unmedicated VBAC and I have to thank Debra for that. I truly believe that what I learned from Debra's yoga class, in addition to chiropractic care, helped to properly align my pelvis and create more space for the baby. The morning that I was in labor, I texted Debra to let her know that I wouldn't make it to class because I thought I was in early labor. She replied that if it was still early, I should come in to stretch, relax, and open up the hips. As I wasn't in too much pain yet, I decided to go - definitely had some contractions in class and she showed me how to breathe through them. Baby was born 4 hours later! Almost delivered in the car. Showed up to the hospital at 10cm. I was shocked to say the least. Thank you Debra for all your help and believing that I could do it!

Absolutely amazing!…read more I cannot say enough about every aspect of their operation, from the kind knowledgable staff to the classes and overall information they provided. My wife really wanted a different birthing experience as we originally started off at a OBGYN office and were not happy with the basic care provided. Many times people get very nervous with using a birthing center over a hospital but after your first visit with them this will all go out the door. They provide you with so much more information and care than other provider's and truly make it a whole new level of experience. They go far beyond the basic care a typical provider gives. They focus on the mothers overall health (since it greatly effects the baby), from their diet, how much they are being active, how much knowledge they have, and give you so many resources/exercises to prepare your body for the process. Versus a normal practice where they just give you basic care and handle things as they come up at birth vs being preventive from the start. This experience was everything my wife wanted and more. Being first time parents we were very nervous coming into the process but are beyond ecstatic with the experience and the amazing staff at this center. If your plan is to have a natural birth then this is undoubtedly the place for you.

After 2 years this experience still haunts me and if this can save even one future mama from what I…read morewent through.... Horrible horrible horrible experience with the doula who I paid extra for because of her experience not only as a hypnobirthing doula but also as a midwife and LC, named Sharon. I went to their open house and it was a very warm experience. I thought it was an informative experience as well but now I realize I wasted hours of my time there. Why? Because they just yes yes yes-ed me on everything. This one payment covers the entire time I am in labor? "YES". What if it takes hours or days? "Yes it's still covered" No matter how long?!? "Yes no matter how long" Can they advocate for me if the doctor does something I didn't want? "Yes absolutely" So they will confront the doctor? "Yes" Will the doula take pictures and videos of the birth? "Yes" My doula will come to me to labor at home and then we go together to the hospital? "Yes" Every single question I had I was told yes by both amazing births and the doula I ended up hiring. Of course, that was just so I end up working with them. They will tell you everything you want to hear. In reality that is not the case. My doula came to my home to labor with me in the beginning stages. I ended up in the tub alone and I'm not sure where she was but she was sleeping. At a certain point I tried to get out of the tub myself and after failing over and over I had to keep calling my doula until she woke up and came to help. When it was time to go to the hospital suddenly my doula said she has to go home to take care of a few things but will meet me there. Ok. Wish she would have informed of that earlier because I was told by her AND amazing births that she will come with me to the hospital. So she went home, fed her cats, took a nap etc. Too much time had passed and she never arrived to the hospital - I was already checked in at this point and had gone for a long walk to help progress labor (kept asking my doula what I can do to help progress my labor, should I walk because my friends doula told her to do that, but Sharon kept insisting that there is nothing I can do. Yet the second I got to the hospital the nurse told me to walk walk walk their hallways to progress the labor.) I called my friend to ask what moves I can do on the birthing ball to help and got yelled at that why am I paying for a doula and where is my doula that's her job to help me with this stuff. That's when I realized my doula has been missing for a very long time and I called her. I MID LABOR HAD TO CALL HER. She said she will be right over. Then some time passed. ALOT OF TIME. Still a no show. No phone call or follow up text either. So I had to call her again and she said the police had locked down the street and she can't get out and was still home. A health care professional in an emergency can't get out?! Really?! Only after we inquired for the backup doula was she suddenly able to sneak out. My doula did nothing to help me with my labor pains. She just sat in her chair while I tried to do breathing techniques on my own. She didn't do a single hypnobirthing technique nor did she massage me. It was a horrible experience. I had to deal with each contraction on my own and in the end couldn't handle it anymore and had to get epidural and pitocin. I also looked to her for advice on the epidural and pitocin but she just kept insisting she didn't know. She also said that if a certain Dr was the delivery driver then she had no power and it would be his way. Funny though because during the interview I told her I was looking for someone specifically to work with this doctor and she said she has it handled and in the past had even had to take him out of the room and argue with him. Ah more lies she told. So this women who didn't touch me didn't massage me and completely neglected me during labor when it came time to push guess who was right there holding my leg?!!! I was so taken aback!! No one asked her to do that. In fact we specifically had asked her to take pictures and videos during the birth. And I was stuck pushing the entire time thinking look at her standing there proudly like she earned that spot when she didn't do a single thing. Thank gd my husband realized and asked one of the hospital staff to take videos. Of course we missed out on some of it. And when the baby was born guess what Sharon did then? Snapped a picture of us on HER OWN PHONE WITHOUT OUR PERMISSION!!! Who does such a thing! I had to ask her to delete it. There's more but Yelp only allows a certain length. We were so let down by the entire experience we did not bother with the follow up. Which was a shame as my baby did need the help of an LC and ended up on formula. Choose wisely. Choose someone who you know personally worked with a doula. Don't hire blindly regardless of how great they sound on paper or in the interview. Sometimes you are better off with a good friend or family member.

I enjoyed being near her. My husband and I just knew she was the one! Take the time to meet her and if she is the one, you may just know it! She spoke very openly to us; very tell-it-how-it-is. She is exactly the strong woman energy I felt I needed near me during birth. I was new to the area and had little resources. She was able to point me in directions I never knew to ask. This is invaluable. She knows the area very well and has the experience as a doula that made me feel comfortable. We were planning a HBAC (home birth after cesarean). My 2 1/2 year old daughter would be there also. It was very important that we found the right person to be support for my husband and daughter also. She was the one. My daughter grew very fond of her leading up to birth. She looked forward to our visits. I could be at ease with my daughter's position during birth with her support. Dawna helped us make our plan possible. Leading up to birth, Dawna was a constant resource. I looked forward to our visits and felt like she was my personal cheerleader. I really needed that! She knew I could do it all along. This was my second birth, and unlike my first one, I felt like everything flowed with all my plans and wishes respected. Everyone there was valuable. Dawna just did exactly what needed to be done while I was in "labor land". She gave me the encouragement I needed and took a load off my husbands shoulders. She brought me drinks with a straw without being asked. She was like an amazing birth angel. Her energy is very calm, strong/confident, go with the flow, and on point! I'm obviously very happy and would hire her again. Right after birth, she made sure I was comfortable and fed. My 2 year old couldn't wait to see her again. We all looked forward to her postpartum visit. There's a reason why she is so experienced and adored by her clients.

My husband describes her as "heavy artillery" as in "call in the very best!" Though I have the greatest husband and my phenomenal sister was supporting us, all of us agree the experience would have been significantly different without Dawna. She truly has a calling which we were lucky to experience in both types of birth settings.
