After seeing some stone work at a friends in Lamorinda we were referred to Steve and Avon and the work didn't disappoint. They were 100% on target with the style, their bid (when was the last time you didn't have to do a change order?!) and their layout and leveling recommendations. Also, and very importantly, the crew was always on time, patient with parking challenges, gracious and open to engage. The lead onsite took detailed notes, and the team was methodical and diligent. We have them coming back for two more projects and would refer them first for stone and masonry work. Project: front retaining wall customer cut around coast live oak roots. Back path with steps and landing in pavers, pergola patio leveled and filled with cross hatch brick, back patio in pavers with customer cut edging for grass, brick retaining wall and leveling for new sod, hothbub pad and walls customer cut to fit tub, planter box in pavers. Due to the difficulty and risk involved for excavation, it was hard to find a contractor to take on the job but from my initial consult with Victor, him and his team noted their experience with these scenarios and he was confident they can do it in less than a day. On excavation day they brought the necessary equipment and tools and were very cautious about the gas pipe. They ended up finishing the job in less than a half day! To follow up, we realized we needed more excavation at the apron of the driveway and Victor again came to the rescue and excavated that for us a week later. I sincerely appreciate the time efficiency and skill that Victor and his team have in getting our excavation needs completed. It took about a month longer than scheduled (like most projects) but everything was always communicated.

I hired Michael and his team for a large hardscape project. To his credit, he has at times gone…read moreabove and beyond -- for example, hauling away construction debris that wasn't his to keep the site clean. But in general, he has not been able to provide a crew that delivers work matching the quality you'd expect for the price. His crew frequently doesn't show up, and he often doesn't know where they are. When they are on site, they drink alcohol and smoke heavily. One day they appeared to have thrown a party, leaving food and beer bottles scattered across my yard for me to clean up. They've also taken items from the job site belonging to the homeowners and never replaced them. They've made decisions that put people's safety at risk, with no urgency to fix them. The main steps to my yard had to be redone because they were all different sizes and sloping down. Instead of making a plan to ensure a rapid repair, they tore up the stains and left the site a hazard. He then asked for payment for materials and tools to redo his mistakes. Michael doesn't seem to have real control over his crew and only shows up when an issue is escalated or when he needs payment. As homeowners, we shouldn't have to micromanage a contractor this closely just to know what his own crew is doing or when to expect them. On multiple occasions, his crew told him they were on site when they clearly were not. We have cameras. He also asked me to cover the cost of tools he should already have as a professional in this trade -- for instance, a wet stone-cutting tool to control concrete dust and protect his workers from inhaling it. Despite asking multiple times, his crew seemed resentful when I requested wet cuts, even for their safety. At this point, having already been paid roughly 90% of the total cost, it seems he doesn't have the funds left to finish the job and is now stuck. Like other reviewers here, I've been more than patient -- but this project is months overdue and still incomplete.

We recently completed a landscaping project that included a new front lawn, a backyard fire pit and…read morefire ring, an expanded planting area, and new irrigation in both the front and back yards. Overall, we are happy with the finished project. The fire pit and planting area turned out beautifully, and the lawn looks great. There were a few dead spots in the new grass, but the team returned and repaired them. There were a couple of details that did not fully meet our expectations. We had a propane box installed to supply the fire pit, and we were disappointed with the cover, which was made from only two large standard tiles and does not look as finished as we had hoped. We were also surprised that much of the irrigation system was installed using flexible tubing rather than Schedule 40 pipe that was trenched and buried. Since much of the tubing is covered only by bark, we are concerned it could be damaged as people walk through the area. That said, Nick did a good job helping us plan the project and was very responsive whenever we had questions or concerns. Despite a few areas that could have been handled differently, we are pleased with the overall outcome.

For my initial consultation appointment, I was set up with their awesome employee Mike Carson. Mike was the best to work with, as he was a very professional individual, who seemed quite knowledgeable about the products, and services that Den Defenders offered. Mike helped me find the perfect solution for my home, and family's needs, as we needed a door that would allow more airflow into Our home for the hot summers, while keeping out insects, and also being very secure, so that we can sleep without worry of any intruders entering our home. Mike recommended the Viewguard security door, as it appeared to meet all of my family's needs. After Mike educated us on the door, its quality, and its features, We were sold, so we ordered one, and set up an appointment for the install date. When it was install day, My family was very excited, because when we first seen the door, it looked like a very high-quality, and sturdy unit. The install took about a few hours, as my home needed some stucco modification for the door to fit, but the Den Defenders crew had all of the tools/ equipment to get the job done, and they even kept the area clean as they worked, which was a huge relief, and very professional on their part. BDC Landscape did an incredible job on my backyard! My house was a new build and the backyard was…read morenothing but dirt and weeds when my family moved in. BDC Landscape came out and responded to my inquiry very quickly and were able to provide an estimate within 1 day. We did not have a design in place, however, the team was able to put together a simple, yet effective design of what my wife and I had envisioned. What was once just dirt, soon became a beautiful mix of pavers, artificial grass, lighting and retaining wall.  The team worked quickly and efficiently and made sure to go over every detail to ensure it was to our liking. Andy was very knowledgeable and made sure our plan came to life. We now have a large paver area and concrete pad which fit our firepit and backyard furniture. Our kids now have a large area to grow into and play in for years to come.  BDC Landscape was able to complete my backyard in such a quick turnaround that they were able to accomodate the front of the house as well. They were nice enough to re-wire my existing sprinklers, move the old irrigation off to the side, add a spigot to it, and tighten up all the other irrigation lines all for no additional cost! Also, as a DIY person I appreciated them taking the time to show me how things work. Four weeks after installation the lawn looks amazing with no dead patches. I definitely recommend this crew and will be using them again for future projects.
