I bought a 50/50 Fish Fry Card from 50/50 Friday's on WJVL. This was our 3rd card and so I know how it works. You pay $75 on the website for the card and you get $150 value at 6 different restaurants. We went to Milton Family Restaurant. When I sat down in the booth there was a bad smell like body odor. I asked the server what we could order because I wanted to make sure it was included on our card. She was condescending and said the fish fry. I knew that but there were different selections on their fish fry menu. So we ordered and the food came out. The food was good but not great. We got our bill and it was illegible. I took it up to pay and they had charged us for one of the fish dinners?!!! I explained I had already paid for one when I bought the card. The woman was confused and talked to the server. She said this is the way they always charge when you use the Fish Fry Card. I said why would I buy the card for $75 and then pay for the other dinner at the restaurant? That would mean I'm paying for 2 dinners. They two women couldn't understand and told me they would get the owner. I waited 10 minutes and he finally came out to speak with me. He too said I had to pay for one of the dinners and when I explained to him that I already paid for one when I bought the card he kept saying the same thing over and over again. I called the restaurant next door that is also on the Fish Card and they said you can order whatever fish dinner you want and they give you $26 off your check. (Their lowest price dinner is $13). The Milton Family Restaurant still couldn't understand! He finally said I didn't have to pay for anything. I told him I wanted to pay just not get ripped off. He finally took off $25 and I paid the rest of the check. I also overheard another person ask our server what the ham steak was and she condescendingly said "it's a ham steak). I went Friday night + it was great. They open until 8 pm on Friday. The only night, they're open late. You can tell regulars love it here. I completely understood why. The fish fry was great. They had the option of cod or perch, baked or fried. I chose the 3 pieces, fried cod and I would gladly get it again. It came with your choice of potato and corn. It was so fresh and crunchy, perfectly cooked! I also ordered a side of clam chowder, that reminded me of my childhood in Boston. The bread that I dipped in the chowder was the perfect accompaniment. My wife loved her grilled cheese. And we were so stuffed, we ordered a slice of the homemade lemon meringue to go. I would definitely come back for the fish and I want to come back for the French toast, other breakfast and lunch options. Definitely a wonderful value and local treasure! The staff was very kind, ambiance was like a comfort food, cozy small town diner. They were busy and still able to seat us right away. I had the biscuits and gravy with fruit. Very good. The only thing I will say that brought the rating down is the orange juice had a funky taste which they attempted to correct. Would go back if in the area. read more

Solid small town restaurant. The seasoned staff was working hard to take care of the customers. The coffee was solid,sadly only prepacked cream though. The biscuits and Gravy was good. Amazing food and service!! Came by with coffee refills at an insane rate! Which is so appreciated! Offered a plate of flavored creamers as well. Food was delicious and had attention to detail. Cheese in the whole omelette, not just the middle. Toast had actual melted butter allll over. It sounds so simple, but it's the little things. What a gem! This reminded me of a good ole hometown restaurant/diner that I'd go to as a young kid where neighbors said hello to each other from across the booth and the place really felt like a community. I came here to meet a friend from the area, and I'm so glad she suggested it. The place has EVERYTHING. Breakfast, lunch, dinner, all kinds of options. I was honestly debating between a traditional eggs/potatoes toast breakfast, a stir fry (um, yum!), and spaghetti. But then I found a turkey/cheese sandwich on a croissant and it seemed to combine the breakfast and lunch/dinner worlds way too perfectly. Sold. The sandwich was amazing, with real turkey and plenty of it. I so appreciate that the best food is often very simple. I scarfed my sandwich down quite quickly. The fries on the side were icing on the cake and wonderfully fried/cooked. Staff was incredibly nice and service was great. Even observing staff interact with other patrons proved this point. Definitely a place worth checking out. And if you're coming with the family or picky eaters.... there's something for everyone. I can't wait to go back. read more

The menu is is very well rounded with all the staples one would expect with a lot specialty creations. I had the Buki's special for breakfast and it was absolutely the best. We were greeted as soon as we walked in, as if we were already part of the family. Food and service = 5+ stars. The janitorial aspect of the business had the only failing blemish. My husband got steak and eggs. The steak was huge and done perfectly. Service was fast and friendly. Arrived at 930 am on a Sunday and was seated immediately. Prices were very reasonable. We have been Milton Family Restaurant customers for about 5 years. We drive from Janesville to get orders to go because the food is usually good. This time, however, the Hobo Skillet was terrible. That toast was burnt, the eggs overcooked, there were 5 small pieces of sausage and no vegetables mixed in with the potatoes. No jelly for the toast. I do realize that a restaurant can have an off day. But when I called the manager to inform him of the poor quality of this meal, he hung up on me. This prompted my husband to get back in the car and drive 20 minutes back to the restaurant to actually show the manager this meal. read more

However, Milton was the epicenter of my childhood during summer camping trips at Blackhawk Campground and now that I'm an adult, Milton remains my summer stomping grounds for more Blackhawk camping. It's become nearly traditional that we head to Milton Family Restaurant for "morning-after" food, when we're hungover and catching up on the antics of the night before. I have a soft spot for Milton Family Restaurant now because of this, but I also really like the way this family diner makes me feel. Just look around on a Saturday or Sunday morning and you'll see Milton families with their parents, their grandparents, sisters, friends...it's the gathering place. We always have great service here. The wait staff are always prompt in bringing our order(s) and beverages, and just as prompt in cleaning off our table when we're done with our breakfast. The service is consistent and I appreciate that. I hate nothing more than getting hit-and-miss service at a ma & pop-type place. I have had pancakes, eggs, egg sandwich, cottage cheese, coffee, orange juice, etc. here, while my friend usually grabs a greasy cheeseburger to cure her "morning-after". The food, like the service, is consistent and pretty good. If you're looking for a knock-out, sensational, incredible breakfast, then I'm not sure what you're doing in Milton, WI in the first place. This place is a steal for what you are getting! And, the service is awesome! The manager is super nice and walks around and talk to the customers. Their Friday night fish fry is yummy, especially the potato pancakes and the tartar sauce. Delicious! They close fairly early but are open until 9pm on Friday which works for me! read more

We stopped in here for our first visit with a large group for breakfast. We were immediately greeted and seated. The place was pretty busy and this was around 9:45 am. The staff were all very friendly, smiling, and attentive. When you were low on coffee or water they were there with a refill and so forth. Food was all good and came out correct. Tasted fresh, seasoned well, and flavors were just right. I had the country fried steak which was delicious. My wife had an omelette which was also very good!
