Brilliant cut today. Never been before, will definitely be back. I stopped in at 11, asked if he could do a walk-in today. He was available at 1, so I came back then. Clean lines, even, quick, straight razor on neck and sideburns. I gave a little instruction at the beginning, he took it from there. I don't usually start conversation, so the only sound was the TV. I've been going to Milton's on and off for the last 8 months or so. He cuts adult hair great and I love getting his razor fades. However, what prompted me to give him a review was the great haircuts he's been giving my son. My son does Brazilian Jiu jitsu. He does one or two tournaments a month. There are lots of pictures being taken of him while he's on the mats. So I get his haircut before every tournament. My wife and I had to give our son a double take after his haircut from Milton. Don't know how this place got all these 5 star reviews. I'm not trying to be a jerk but I'm really curious how there are only a couple of bad ones. What a disappointment. We knew there was something wrong right from the get go when the barber didn't pay attention to what my son asked for. He even showed him a picture of his recent cut. Told him he wanted a low fade. Within 10 minutes, he managed to shave all his hair off the sides. No fade...nothing. Just straight up mowed his hair. Needless to say, my son is so upset. Won't be back again. Where do I begin? I came here for a regular men's haircut. Nothing fancy, just a little off the sides and trim up top. What I received was nothing short of a hackjob. I would've been better off using a weed-wacker. I came here because of the use of a "straight edge razor" and because I had read good reviews. Specializing in straight edge razor? More like specializing in one haircut only. All the haircuts Milton and co. give are all run of the mill African-American caesar type haircuts. They don't do anything other than that. When he asked how short I wanted it, he said you want a 2 or a 1? How should I know? You're the barber. He cut my sides, didn't even touch my top. Also. didn't even touch me with a razor. Instead, he left the back of my head super bald and with a high fade. What made everything even worse was his constant talking in and out of my haircut. Now, I am all about old-school barber shop feel and talking to customers is a big part of it, but he sure wasn't talking to me. He would cut and talk and cut and talk. About guns and weed and how hes a "thug". All very inappropriate talk. Seemed very, very ghetto and not the kind of talk that should go on a barber shop, especially with little children around. He also had no type of filter and every other word was a curse. Not only that, there was a girl working there and she was obviously a gay woman, and he made very rude remarks about her sexuality. Something that although, she didn't say anything, I'm sure affected her. All in all, I would NEVER come back to this place. The location is all wrong, this place belongs on a corner in east Oakland. I decided to treat myself for a beard trim. This is the ultimate in luxury for bearded guys. Milt did an impeccable job. He reshaped my beard to flatter my face, trimmed it to an appropriate length, and used a straight razor on my neck and cheeks. This is man-pampering (manpering) at its finest. All for a great price ($7). While I was waiting, I saw Milt give a perfect fade. He's a master at the razor and trimmers. I was extremely pleased and will be returning. This is a solo-barber shop. The haircut was ok, the barber went to go buy food because he was on break and some kid that was in the barber shop took over and finished the cut. It wasn't that bad but then I asked for a hairline and he made it hella far back. When he was done with it I was bleeding from the top of my head. After that I went to kaiser and got stitches. Was excited to get my haircut by Juanita as I had heard such good things about her. Had already waited over an hour...then a homophobic joke between the other barber and a teenage boy. I was shocked!
