When I moved to Hayward it took me awhile to find someone I could really trust- I was literally driving to Sunnyvale to have my former barber cut my hair, and had been doing that for another three years while I lived in Millbrae- the point is I don't have a lot of trust when it comes to barbers, so when I say that Jack is a fantastic barber that should mean something. One word of warning though is that he does keep a schedule- if you show up late he will likely ask you to come back later or to reschedule rather than delay other customers who are on time. This is a very new business that opened August 15, 2013. Mr. Jack Perez owns the shop and is a gifted barber. I walked in with my Beloved and he received a haircut. I enjoyed Mr. Perez's demeanor, professionalism, and being so personable. Hot towels and a straight razor were used during the cut. Last month I updated my review based on the service I recieved, but for some reason it was not posted. I still recall, however, how it went; I came in to the shop on time, and Jack had just finished with his previous client. I didn't understand just how busy Jack's schedule was until that day. If I had come late, it would have messed up the scheduled appointments for the rest of the day! I'm mentioning this because it is obvious that Jack really cares about his clients and goes to great lengths in order to address their concerns and meet there needs. Once again, I wanted to change my haircut up a bit, and I'm sort of picky on the details, but Jack was patient with me and took his time to get it just right. He gave me some tips, like he always does, and we had a nice conversation ( I personally don't like it when it's quiet the entire time). I left the shop that day as satisfied as ever, and knowing more about hairstyle than I did before. We can show appreciation for the fantastic service we recieve by keeping our word, being on time, or early if possible. Some people don't understand just how big of am impact 10 mins has on his schedule. I needed to find a new hair stylist and all the good ones in the area are booked, so I settled on Studio One. I've never been happy with the haircuts, they were inconsistent, sometimes borderline OK, and other times a pure hack job. I have been coming to Jack for the past two to three years for hair and beard trims/cuts. The quality of his work is top-notch compared with other barbers. Jack treats his customers very well, almost like family. I love the fact that I can schedule an appointment and not wait in ridiculous lines like, at other barbers, time is money. Parking is also great, there is a ton of parking right across in the dominos parking lot, 500 feet away, and you can catch a street spot in front of the shop on the weekdays if you like street parking. This year I was looking for a regular barber closer to home, and through Yelp reviews I found Jack here at Studio One Barber. He's been cutting my hair for the last half a year, and he's the only "fancy" barber I've gone to consistently without taking a break (to save money) to get a free haircut from my wife. Jack has been consistently good with my haircuts. He has the best, clean fades. He's very meticulous with his work, and he doesn't rush it. You know how fresh haircuts usually only look good for a few days to a week and then you have to put a hat on until your next cut? Jack's cuts have lasted me up to 3 weeks before I needed a hat or another cut. I get my cuts from Jack every 3-4 weeks. The cuts are a bit pricier after tip, but I think it's well worth it for a clean cut, and I'm always up for supporting a local barber who deserves it. Jack is good at listening to what you want and making it better than you'd expect. A couple of times, I wasn't sure I was going to like it after the cut, but I went home to shower off and put my own product in my own hair to style it my own way, and it looked much better than expected. I have yet to be disappointed with a cut from Jack, so I plan on coming every month for my cuts. Even my wife has said that this barber gives me the best cuts, and I've gone out in search for a good, consistent barber for a few years now. Jack is now my guy. Definitely a one time only visit for me. Maybe if your a guy who doesn't know at all really what you want, you just want a guy to put an okay looking hair cut on your head, maybe this is your guy. (If your a girl, you can roll the dice if you want to, he really doesn't do girls hair though) But I knew the hair cut that I wanted to get, and all this guy gave me was a big argument about how guys shouldn't have long hair. (The long hair in question was about 6 inches long). So, not good for that, Also, he tells me I shouldn't give a crap what my lady likes to see me with since I'm the one wearing the hair cut not her ( I can't see how this guy could possibly have a good marriage, but who knows? I didn't ask) So after trying to explain to him the style and name of hair style I wanted, all I get back from this guy is attitude, like I don't know anything, and a weird hair cut that looked funky a week after getting it. AND IT WASN'T AT ALL WHAT I ASKED FOR! ON TOP IF THAT, because my hair was considered "long" the price was $45, not the $25 advertised. So he doesn't know how to give "long" hair cuts to guys, acts like a jerk, overcharges without telling you, is chronically behind schedule, and acts like he's gods great gift to the barber industry.... * Excellent service in both quality and price * Backwards racism Recently I went in for my third haircut with Jack, and while he's a super nice guy otherwise and quite skilled I feel I need to divulge the racism I witnessed this last time I went in, to make sure people at least know before they schedule an appointment with him. As he was working, an African-American woman came in with her son (or someone, I wasn't actually facing to see) looking for a haircut. While he does work by appointment only, he turned them away in a seemingly kind way, explaining he wanted them to get the best haircut possible and redirected them to another barber. When he came back, I asked him (all quotes paraphrased) "Is it just different hair, or...?", to which he replied, "No, I just don't serve blacks.", and went on to tell me about how he "doesn't want the wrong crowd to come around", he "works late and alone", and "most robberies are commited by black people". Full stop. No further details required, I hope. I feel bad writing this review, as it's my first, and it may have huge consequences for any number of people, but I definitely feel like people should know. I know I won't be returning. read more

Horrible service: I scheduled an appointment, arrived early. There was already another person waiting when I got there. That person was seated in the chair at my appointment time. When I called we had a conversion over the phone about a haircut and a beard cleanup. When my haircut was over he informed me that he only has me down for a haircut. It's very clear he favors his regulars and doesn't seem like he wants to turn a new client into a regular. My Wife & I went at 7am & one after another got hair cuts. Jack is really easy to talk to. We had good conversations. I didn't understand scalp or no scalp when I said I like it around the ear. This is my new favorite barber. Jack works alone and now I see why. He does it all. He has both a Cosmetology license AND a Barber license. This was my first time here and Jack really took his time to make sure he knew exactly what I wanted. He was very detailed in my cut and made me feel comfortable and welcomed. He works by appointment only, but was willing to take a walk in that showed up while I was there. His shop looks clean and smells great! There was never that awkward silence.
