The staff is absolutely amazing. I am from 1100 miles away and just had another retailer tell me that they could not get me the pants I needed for the groomsmen in my wedding. In searching for someone who sold Tommy Hilfiger suits and could help, Milton's came up as one of the results. Taking a chance, I called the Chestnut Hill location and talked to Joe, who was filling in at the location. Let me tell you, for someone who is in full panic mode to talk to someone as knowledgeable, calm and willing to help was a God send. Joe took the time to listen to what I needed. He helped me with finding something that would work for the groomsmen and went above and beyond to make getting them shipped to me easy. I also spoke with Tim, who was friendly, knowledgeable and a tremendous help. Today, retailers of any size seem to be so focused on the amount of the sale to increase profit, they forget about what the customer actual needs. Milton's is not like that in my experience. A first and last experience! I stopped in here after a search found it as a recommended place for men's wear. However, after setting foot in here...no one greeted me or the couple that came in after. There were exactly 4 other guests in the store and 3 employees. I walked around for a couple minutes and after it was clear, no one really care to offer any assistance, I left and went across the street to Bloomingdale's at the Chestnut Hill mall instead! Unsurprisingly, the couple that came in behind me also walked out as I got in my car . Bottom line is, I definitely don't recommend this store based on customer service alone...I should say...lack thereof! read more

I had heard about Milton's for years, but had frequented other competitors. I gave them a try today and it was the fastest and most professional and polite suite buying experience I have ever had. I didn't feel like I was being pushed to get what I didn't want and was pleasantly surprised by the value (about $100-$150 less than a national men's wear chain, and comparable quality). I recently lost a lot of weight and so have to replace my suits but I am not looking to go bankrupt. I have very long arms and legs, which makes suit shopping doubly stressful. Milton's took so much of the edge off of the stress and a great price. I will definitely be back. read more

I had a really great experience here. I'm getting married this weekend, and I needed a tux. I worked with John G. over the course of the past three weeks to pick out and tailor a tux that looked great by the end of our work together. Wonderful and friendly service and advice, and A+ tailoring. Having worked at Miltons through my teens and twenties, I was confident in their ability to outfit the gentlemen in my wedding party. For years I saw owner Dana Katz, Store Managers and Sales Associates work tirelessly alongside Brides and Grooms to create picture-perfect fashions for a countless number of varying styles. I knew my wedding wouldn't be any different. My husband and I initially visited the Chestnut Hill location and met with Tim Gaines. We brought with us swatches of our wedding colors and photographs of the style we had in mind. Considering three different suit colors, Tim showed us a collection of "Buy One Get One Free" suits and assisted us in selecting a beautiful black Michael Kors ensemble that would flatter the varying builds of our groomsmen and family members, as well as our wine-colored bridesmaid dresses. Additionally, Tim put my husband in a similar but more tapered Calvin Klein suit, which differentiated him from his groomsmen and handsomely flattered his frame. Of my husband's four groomsmen, two lived out-of-state (North Carolina & Arizona) and one was serving overseas in Iraq, returning home just 10-days before our wedding. As far as wedding parties are concerned, we knew this was a tall order. Tim helped us complete a Wedding Party Registration Form, listing the names of our groomsmen and family members which was kept on file in both the Chestnut Hill and Braintree locations. Once our out-of-state groomsmen called the store with their sizes and credit card information, Miltons shipped their suits free of charge! Several local family members visited the Braintree store and were fitted by General Manager Mark Sarkis. Both Tim and Mark were diligent in updating us with who had yet to be fitted and/or purchase their suit and we always felt as though someone was keeping us on-schedule. As for our overseas groomsman, he stopped at Miltons on his way home from the airport and Tim was able to have his suit fitted, tailored and pressed in time for our big day - what incredible customer service. Walking down the aisle on my wedding day, I couldn't have been more satisfied with what I saw waiting for me. Miltons outfitted our wedding party from head to toe - shirts, shoes, belts, etc - and the guys looked immaculate. Their confidence shined through in all of our pictures and video and we received a multitude of compliments with how well put together they were. I went to buy a suit on a Saturday and I expected it to be busy. Leyla was the best! She was bouncing back and forth between an entire wedding party, another couple and me. She was very kind and professional! After Leyla helped me with a suit she sent me downstairs to pick out a shirt. The older woman working the floor was a horrible sales person. She made me feel bad for not knowing my neck size then made me find my own shirt. Old white lady working the first floor take notes from Leyla, you have a lot to learn. Had a pretty awful experience at Milton's when getting suits for my husband and the men in our wedding. Our suit order was "custom" so everything was written down and measurements were taken on each man and then sent out to be ordered. We had one groomsman pick his suit up and when he got home his pants were 8 sizes too big, he had to pay almost more than the suit cost to have them cut and sewed back together. We had another groomsmen suit arrive with no pants. All of the shirts ordered were French cuff shirts and two of the groomsmen's shirts came with buttons and no holes for the cufflinks. (Had to go out a few days before the wedding and buy them new shirts and was told I could only get a refund when I returned the wrong shirts, even though Milton's sent us the wrong ones). Both of the fathers suits were 48longs and when arrived they were 50 slim fit, was told the "vendors they order from do this sometimes and it should fit the same" they didn't fit the same and they both paid a lot in alterations. My husband was told the suits had arrived and we live about 45-60 minutes away from the store so when he drove there to pick some of them up the girl working couldn't give him any info on their whereabouts and didn't know where they were in the store. Needless to say it was a waste of a drive down there and he left without any suits even though they were somewhere in the store. Everything took months to come in as well so there was no time to send anything back and exchange it. I also was told because some suits took so long to arrive that when they shipped them to me I would receive free shipping on them, I didn't. Just overall was probably the most stressful aspect of my wedding and wouldn't put any other bridal party through that stress and extra money. read more

I find it shocking that Miltons has received poor reviews, I have never had anything but amazing experiences there. Over the years I have purchased a tux, a suit, as well as many accessories and have always found the staff to be helpful and attentive. Everything has always fit perfectly and my alterations done exactly the way they should be. My sales person twice has been Joe and he has been truly wonderful. After trying on a $400 and an $750 tux we both agreed that the cheaper one looked and fit better on me and he didn't try at all to force me to get the more expensive tux. The quality here is much higher then a Jos Bank type place and thats why you wont see them giving away 4000 free shirts if you buy a suit or whatever JosBank does. Miltons is a solid choice for 80% of men out there and is worth your time to go! read more

Milton's earns two stars for the selection, I was able to find two ties for my boyfriend to wear to a funeral, one was 80% off, When I entered the store, I could hear associates talking upstairs, but no one came down to help me. I wandered the store for 10 minutes and no one greeted or asked me if I needed help. When I went up to the register, an employee stared at me until someone else came up and said, "oh, she doesn't use the register." He rang me up without as much as a hello. We used Miltons for our wedding party and had a terrible experience with Cindy. She was very abrasive from the start, and not afraid to share her contrary opinions. In the end we agreed on styles for the groom, groomsmen, and fathers and had everyone measured and tailored. This is where organization fell apart. The grooms father was fitted in a groomsmen suit, and two of the groomsmen received "tailored" suits that were completely unacceptable an no where close to fitting. The day before the wedding they had to drive back to Miltons get different suits. Also, the shoes that were picked out for the groomsmen were apparently discontinued months ago, but we were not notified until half already had purchased the discontinued style. Cindy talked a big talk about being the best in the business and really let us down, causing a lot of unnecessary stress leading up to the wedding. read more

She was able to show me a variety of suits, pricing, and belts/ties/shoes and get me on my way in about 40 minutes. Been coming in a lot lately to Milton's for everything. Suits, sport coats, David Donahue shirts and Cole Haan shoes. They have the best prices the best staff and a great selection. I'm a big guy - 6'2/300 and it's tough to shop places these days at anything like Bloomingdale's and even Brooks Brothers (in-store) as all fashion is euro cut. I work with Tim on my suits and Alberta downstairs. Truly an amazing experience every time. They are able to tailor stuff quickly and get me to my next client meeting, Wedding, or family event in a breeze! You guys are the best. read more

He provided great (honest) input when needed, and also gave us some space to hem and haw, and go at our own pace. I was So freaking uncomfortable in this store. If I recall correctly Milton's slogan is "you will be as comfortable in our store as you will be in our clothes" I'm one of those guys who never shops and doesn't know much about clothes. The lady there gave me these blank stares when I wasn't sure was I was talking about which made things so awkward. When I was getting my suit fitted the guy helping me was a little bit snappy and rude with me. Contrary to their slogan I was not comfortable in their store at all. At least there was one black employee who came over to me and was very kind , I remember him saying "you're good bro" , when i asked if something fit me, and "nice to see you back", which was much more comforting than the other employees. Giving a 5-star review because of their ability to help me with a tough situation last Friday. I had an audition in Boston on Saturday. My wife and I drove in from New York on Friday, settling into our hotel at about 8:15 - when I realized that my suits were still sitting on our bed back home. Driving home to get them and driving back was not an option. Milton's was the closest men's clothing store still open. We walked in the door at 8:40, twenty minutes to close. I explained my situation to the salesman at the main checkout counter, who promptly suggested doing separates rather than a full suit due to the time constraints and sent me upstairs. Joe - who was the tailor working that evening - helped pick out a blazer that was a great fit for my body type (I'm a pretty hefty guy), as well as a pair of slacks, a shirt, and a belt. And the cost was very reasonable, comparing well to the cost of the suits I already owned. All in all, I was out the door with a great looking outfit in 15 minutes - one that I'll definitely wear again! read more

I haven't been compelled to write a yelp review before but had a surprisingly good experience today. I purchased suit separates 4 months ago and bought two pairs of pants so I had a spare when the first wore out. I've lost weight so went to return the unworn pair (with tags on) two days ago and they didn't have any problem with the exchange 4 months later. But that's not the amazing part. It turns out I grabbed the wrong brand of blue suit pants (because I didn't ask a salesperson to help me) that I needed for the next morning and only on the airplane did I realize it was slightly lighter than jacket. I thought it was an issue with dye lot so took them back. They took back the now-worn pants and gave me the right ones WITHOUT CHARGING ME. Totally my fault and I would have paid. I needed a whole new wardrobe from suits, ties, shirts, shoes and socks. This store is great for a shopper like me who knows what he likes but is open to suggestions from a helpful and very friendly team. Ron in Men's Suits knew my size just by looking at me and the best type of suits for my build, the tailor is amazing and very good at his craft. I'm not a big guy but my chest and shoulders are broader than my waist so shirts and suits have to ususually be fitted to my build. He was able to get me looking good and still feel comfortable. Best of all is Alberta who treated me like a member of her family, finding the right style and color and spending a crazy amount of time with me to help me find the right look.. In today's market, there are a lot of places to shop however, I highly recommend Milton's in Chestnut Hill for guys who may need a little direction from professionals. This review applies to both the Chestnut Hill location and Braintree locations... I initially went shopping in the Braintree location, and was looking for a suit that would last me a long time. When I explained this to the sales associate, he directed me towards the "best" suit they had on hand, and explained that it would last me 20 years, so would be well worth the extra $. I am always one to pay more for quality, so I went ahead with the purchase and laid down close to $800 for a hugo boss suit. I had the suit tailored in the store, and they told me I had "Lifetime tailoring" on the suit. I don't wear suits often, so fast forward about 1.5 years, and about 8 wears of this suit. I take the suit off after attending a business conference and notice that there's a gigantic hole in one of the pants! I figured, there must be some defect because a suit meant to last me 20 years certainly wouldn't rip in 8 wears, right? So, I go to the Chestnut hill store and speak to one of their tailors to see if he can fix the rip. He tells me, not a chance, but then he explains that it looks like the "professionals" at the Braintree store tailored and sized my suit too small. He explains that is why it ripped. So I then ask what we can do to remedy this situation, because obviously I didn't get what I paid for. Long story short, they tell me they can't do anything at this location, but that if I drive down to Braintree (a 45 mins drive!) the general manager Mark will take care of me. So, I drive down to that location, and when I speak with Mark he tells me that the best he can do is have his tailor at that location try and fix the pants. (Didn't his other tailor JUST get done telling me it can't be fixed?). I asked if they could replace the pants. He says that because it's 1.5 years old, there's nothing they can do. He explains that it probably ripped because I wore it too aggressively (I work all day at a desk, and barely wore the thing). So much for 20 years!!!! Oh, and he adds that they've since discontinued the "Lifetime tailoring" so I would no longer receive that benefit. REALLYY?!! So glad I just drove all the way down there for nothing. Finally, Mark says he's going to speak to the owner and see what they can do. A few weeks later the GM calls while I am in Africa, so I call him back about 3 weeks after he first called me. Basically, he says that they can't fix the suit (which was established by his own people in Chestnut hill), but would be willing to replace it for 1/2 price. Okay....fine. He tells me he has to check his inventory and will call me back. 1 month later, still no call back. I'm done with this chain. If you want a poorly tailored, unsupported suit and don't mind rolling the dice just to see the thing rip in less than 10 wears this is the chain for you. As for me, I'll pay a little more to shop at Nordstrom or another chain where I know I'll get what I pay for, and no questions asked returns are ALWAYS an option. I'm completely unsatisfied and feel as though I threw my hard-earned money down the toilet. read more

Due to an upcoming wedding we were in the market for a simple navy blue blazer. We'd shopped all the men's stores in the Chestnut Hill Mall and found some lovely blazers - but they were all priced higher than I cared to spend. We crossed Rte. 9, walked into Milton's and found exactly what we wanted: the perfect blazer at the perfect price, sold to us by a sales clerk who knew what he was talking about. He took the time to help us find various options at all price-points within our budget and helped us choose the 'right' blazer without breaking the bank. This is the second time I've shopped Milton's and the second time I've walked out of the store with exactly what I was looking for. It is probably the most-affordable men's clothing store in Chestnut Hill and well-worth checking-out if you want a well-made suit, but don't want to spend a fortune. read more

I was recently on the market for a couple of suits and, I decided to visit Milton's at 176 Boylston ST (route 9) in Chestnut hill. I'm VERY glad i did. I walked in, the store is laid out very nicely...stylish suits on display...very clean... overall a great atmosphere. I was greeted by Jose Fonseca. Mr. Fonseca was the ULTIMATE salesperson. He was very friendly but not pushy or overwhelming in ANYWAY whatsoever. You can tell he really cares about customer satisfaction and he takes great pride in his work. He was very knowledgeable of his product and he was very helpful when it came to the advise as far as style and fitting. He was also very patient throughout the whole process. He made sure that whatever I bought, I was 100% satisfied with. From the moment I walked in, to when i went back a couple days later to pick up the suits, after having them tailored...(that's the other thing, they have the best tailor)... the experience was a 10! A standard men's shop with a 1950s feel. Large, on two floors, but small on variety. The good quantity of coats, suits, shirts, sweaters and accessories stay in a rather narrow range of bankers' taste. The prices are OK, as long as you don't need a full length cashmere coat, which costs at least $500. Next door, the Atrium Mall looks as if it has fallen on hard times, with most of the storefronts empty. Maybe that's why Milton's seemed less than bustling when I went in today. But it's a decent store; just not an exciting one. read more

I purchased one suite at this store and I will not be shopping there again. I went in and picked out a suite from their separates section. They had the jacket I need, but needed to bring in the pants from another store. I explained to them that I was going to be away for a week, but I would come in for the alterations at the beginning of the next week. They said that it was not a problem. They called when the pants came in and left a voice mail. I called the next day to tell them it would be a few days before I could come in and again they told it wasn't a problem. When I returned I went in for the fitting and they couldn't find the jacket they had on hold for me or the pants they had brought in. They said they didn't have the size left in the store so ultimately they put it back on the rack at some point and sold it. I picked out a new suite because I was in a pinch and the only thing they offered was to cover the cost of the alteration to the pants. The jacket needed alterations as well. The suite I had originally picked out was $200 since it was on clearance, but the new suite they sold me (which was the same thing but just a different color) was $300. I feel that they should have covered the difference as they sold the suite they were holding for me. Looking back at it now- I feel as though they were playing a game of bait and switch. Fast forward a couple weeks, I go in to pick up my suite and they tell me to go try it on and once I'm done they will put it in a garment bag. I come out and no one is there to make sure it fits right. Considering they are the professionals I would think they should be the ones to judge if it fits properly. I change back into my regular clothes and go to the desk. No one is there except for a clerk who is re-stocking the rack. I wait about 5-10 minutes and finally he asks if needed help as he thought the other person was helping me. I'm very disappointed with my experience there. I expect this from a large department store but from a store that specializes in men's clothes. I would have thought their standards would have been higher. read more
