I was only able to drink 4 beers on this great way to spend the afternoon, plus got some fresh air at the same time. I've been wanting to go on a pedal tavern forever and I'm so happy to say I was able to finally make it happen last night! Our group had the best time!! Brought our own beverages and snacks but also took advantage of some amazing specials at the four bars we stopped at along the way. The pedaling is a little bit of a workout but there are five seats where pedaling isn't required so you can swap seats if you get tired. Bring your own music (don't forget the adapter/usb cord) and pedal your party through the city. Check-in was fast, all of the staff was amazing and very conscious of the open container laws. Our driver started to pull a u-turn without looking behind her. If I hadn't screamed "CAR,"I think she would have steered us right into them. She also ran a red light down a hill without seeing past parked cars on the street to our left. sure, she was turning right, but I don't think we would have stopped in time if a car "surprised" us. Tips for those going: wear sturdy shoes, some women in our group had straps break on dressy sandals. Make sure you are in a group that is going to pedal; our shorter members couldn't really pedal comfortably, which made it frustrating for all. This was my first peddle tavern experience and it was a blast. We went on the 10am tour, so it was early enough that none of our stops were terribly crowded because it was still a little bit early to be drinking. We had 9 people, while the cart holds probably 15. Peddling up the hills was a little bit of a challenge with only 9 (+ our driver), but with everyone peddling it worked out just fine. A few of the shorter girls (maybe 5'5" or so?) on our cart struggled a little bit to reach the peddles. I can't say with 100% certainty but, as far as I know, the seats were not adjustable. You can bring your own music, food, and beers (no glass) along on the cart to listen to, eat, and drink in between each stop. For food I would suggest cheese cubes, crackers, a bag of pretzels, a bag of nuts, and the like. You will be drinking and peddling and drinking and peddling.... Not a whole lot of time to be eating! As you cannot have open alcohol on the streets or sidewalks, you either have to finish your beers between stops, or leave them on the cart while inside each stop. We got the small 8oz cans of beer, and they were small enough to enjoy, while not being too large to finish. We made 5 stops- George's Pub, Zad's, Milwaukee Ale House, and Brenner's Brewing Co. The original plan did not include Milwaukee Ale House or Brenner's, but the Irish pub that we planned on going to was not open when we got there (even though their hours advertised that they were open). Milwaukee Ale House was probably my favorite. So many options! Each of these stops had specials just for the Peddle Tavern, which was really nice. This was a fun way to check out Milwaukee for someone who's never been here before. I don't know that this is something I would do again (it sounds like it's generally the same route each time) but the experience was most definitely worth it. read more

I was really looking forward to the pedal tavern and can see how it could be fun if it the weather cooperates. We went for a friends birthday and the tavern was mostly our group and a bachelor party. We initially had a great time being on the tavern and blasting music. The first stop we made was George's at the suggestion of the pedal tavern driver. The bar was very divey, and cash only...something that should've been mentioned by the driver before stopping. Our stop there was quick as most of us did not want to take out cash when we had drinks on the tavern, and the bar didn't have air conditioning on an extremely humid day. We then went to another bar and it started to rain. Now, storms were in the forecast but the tavern insisted "it's more fun with the rain." Little did we know that that would be the end of our evening. Once lighting was in the air, we were no longer allowed to pedal. They had to drive to pick up two members of our group and out tour was over. No refunds, despite only going to like two bars and pedaling for 30 min. Felt like a waste of almost $400 that could've been spent on other things. Obviously they can't control the weather but if we were told that no refunds would be given or that we would have to completely stop if there was lightning then we might have postponed. I was so happy to see a small Yelp Zombie Pedal Tavern event happen this year! It was a small group all dressed as zombies and we went out pedaling around Milwaukee. OH. EM. GEE. The pedal tavern is a blast. Holy cow was it fun, I might even venture to say it was one of the most fun things I've done in Milwaukee. Myself and 6 friends went on a pedal tavern on a Thursday night as a part of celebrations before graduating, so it was very much a last hoorah in Milwaukee as a group and it was absolutely perfect. Working out AND drinking?! Say what?? A lot more difficult than I would have imagined but I probably should have known better. Okay, so we did the pedal tavern last weekend, first weekend of August in Milwaukee. The weather was awesome to exercise and exercise we did. I think those who say six is perfect are nuts. Now, really I think it was four of us doing the work, but our tavern had six riders. It was hard! It ruined a bit of the experience for us. We went to George's first. Clearly a fun local, old time bar with interesting folks, but it smelled in there. They have animals, and it was smelly. My husband stayed outside for this stop. Cool beads and raffles for me, but old smelly bar. Next we did the Sangria Bar. It was unique. It's hard to mix beer and wine for me, but the ambiance was cool. And they have great bathrooms for the ride, go here. Next came MOB Craft Brew. The ride was uphill, and with just a '6' of us, is was a hard ride. I needed a beer, my husband pedaled hard and wanted to puke. Two different experiences, but still, the point is...Ride a full tavern. We made it back to Steny's with not much trouble, flat ride, and Steny's is really cool. A great bar in a fun city. Ultimately, I liked the tavern, but it was really tiring. Get 15 of your closest friends, meet up at O'Lydia's, hang in the back room until you've all checked-in and filled out your "I'm not going to sue you if I fall off the pedal tavern and bite it" waivers, indulge in one of O'Lydia's many pedal tavern specials ($1 PBRs whut?!), and then, once your driver comes to get your group, you're ready to roll! Er, pedal. Of note: this is *not* easy, folks. Depending upon your route, you'll be pedal pushing like a you-know-whatter. There's only one gear, so be prepped for lots of rotation and little resistance. That said, an easy ride not does this make. But! You'll be stopping at some glorious spots, depending upon your group's chosen route. We really dove it up when we went, hitting three amazing dive bars and indulging in their particular brand of dive-y-ness, which to be truthful, was perfect for the evening and the group. Stop #1: George's. Wow. Seriously, and not even kidding around. This little gem is nestled on the east side of 1st St. just south of National. George and his spot are wicked-old school untouched by time, and it's all just so delightful. Your specials? $1 Busch and Busch Lights, $2 ice-cold shots of butterscotch schnapps. A raffle for random prizes, and George on the mic (this means a sweet, earnest, funny old guy MC'ing your half hour stop. Amaze.) Stop #2: Fat Daddy's. I've been here before, many moons ago. Cheap drink specials, dive-y without being dirty and a mixed crowd. Really not a bad spot at all! Stop #3: Zad's. I've been here before too, many moons ago. This 6am bar (read: third shifter bar) has since been rehabbed and has insanely cheap drinks, killer pedal tavern specials ($1 shots of Powers?), pull tabs, an internet jukebox, and friendly folks. And then, back to O'Lydia's for us, where we indulged in some killer apps (reuben rolls! potato skins!) and relaxed with even more of their pedal tavern specials in the back room. Ok, listen. My 5 stars are not going toward the concept of the Pedal Tavern, which should be considered torture in some countries, because really who wants to booze and exercise at the same time? Not me, and my derrière was none to pleased with me following the week. That being said, if you're set on giving this a try, this company is pretty great and I would recommend them. Our driver, Justin Jason (Just Jason actually, but the story's not as funny when you're sober), was awesome and fun and totally tolerant of our shenanigans as long as we stayed within the guidelines of the Pedal Tavern and the laws of Milwaukee. Drink specials were available at all of the bars and all of the bartenders were pretty cool with us too. We played our own tunes and laughed a whole lot. After reading some of these reviews, I think our pub must've been broken. There is no way that this could be considered fun. Seven very healthy men had an extremely difficult time pedaling around. The "tour" was 3 stops that I guess really don't change from "tour" to "tour." Since I was incorrect to assume otherwise, ALCOHOL IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE PRICE. So.much.fun. I had more fun than I thought I would on the pedal tavern. You can bring drinks (in cans or plastic cups) onboard. Make sure someone brings music for jamming. My favorite part was honestly just pedaling down streets while drinking and socializing on the pedal tavern. You of course make stops at various establishments for more drinks. I think you can choose your own stops or entrust the driver to select those for you. My only complaint- the time (two hours) went by SO fast. I could have easily done one or two more hours. 15 friends and I rented a pedal tavern for the 4th of July last weekend and had a blast! We met our pedal tavern at a bar that had awesome food and a great patio (if you're trying to get some lunch before you start). While we ate, we signed our waivers and then off we went! The tour felt a little short as once we all got on the tavern, listened to the rules, and headed off, about 15 mins had already passed. With only about 15-20 minutes to spend in each bar, it felt really rushed. I think they should at least let you stay 30-40 minutes and maybe even spend a bit more time pedaling in between. As we returned to our starting point after two hours, it felt like we had just begun and it was kind of sad to realize that we had literally just gone in a very small 2 block radius circle. Regardless, it was very fun and a great way to spend a holiday - just needed about an hour or two more!! Only other comment was that our driver was a bit nit-picky. One of our guests spilled a bit of beer while getting onto his seat and was immediately chastised and called an asshole. Seriously, it sucks. They took us to dive bars. The pedaling sucks. It is terrible, and I would not recommend to anyone. The idea sounds great! However, when you really think about it... you can't really enjoy the people you are with. Everyone is too busy peddling their butts off (because if you don't, you won't go anywhere)... if you have a drink, you can't really drink it all that easily because of the bumpy road and peddling... you stop and leave your unfinished drink... so you can stop at a bar (but only for a quick drink because you don't want to waste all the money you just spent on the tavern)... and do it all over again. This could be fun, if your activity didn't focus around drinking or hanging out with friends. This doesn't give you an opportunity to do either. read more

However, the company was very accommodating, it was easy to book and everyone had a great time. We started off at Steny's Tavern where we had lunch, signed the waiver and got ready to go. We stopped at three places to allow enough time to Peddle. We stopped at George's Pub (Rich in history and ambience), Mike Ale House (right on the Milwaukee River) and Central Standard Craft Distillery (which makes its own gin, rye, vodka, whiskey, bourbon). Also if you decide to do the Peddle Tavern, ask for Zac. He's the best!! Very nice, informative, easy going, and helpful. The only downfall is we all wished it was longer--two hour goes by quick when you factor in walking to the bar, waiting for your ordered drink, etc. read more

I had so much fun on the Milwaukee Pedal Tavern! It didn't matter that I was 8 months pregnant and couldn't drink. It didn't matter that it was 40 degrees outside and I couldn't feel my fingers. It was a super fun Milwaukee experience. I really enjoyed the places we stopped; I had not been to any of them before. There was a large variety in the places we stopped - pub, neighborhood bar, a bit more swanky...Our driver was fun, funny and had rockin' music. The people we were pedaling with were fun and thoughtful (we all took turns on the seat with no peddles). I am alway on the look out for fun Milwaukee ideas to participate in when we have friends visiting from out of town. The Milwaukee Pedal Tavern is now on that list! read more

Gather 15 of your favorite, most energetic (and athletic) friends and jump on this tavern on wheels for an exciting ride. Since the Pedal Tavern's addition to Milwaukee in 2010 it has become nothing less of a community pal. Living in the Third Ward, the Tavern has traveled past my place several times and I finally mustered up some courage to take it on. The Pedal Tavern is NOT for the faint of heart; it's a lot of work and a lot of sweating. But, if you are too short to hit the pedals, then you're just along for the ride. You start your journey at O'Lydias and make your way around either the Third Ward or the Fifth Ward/Walker's Point. You can bring your own beer on board (we had one large cooler) and your own music (they don't have an iPod hookup, so we brought our own little iPod stereo). Brandon was our guide and he was awesome. He let us go to whatever bars we wanted to (Pedal Tavern discount or not) and let us drive around any route. He was pretty cool. It happens rain or shine, so be prepared to take on a little water if it starts raining out. I would highly recommend doing this on a weekend. Friday was perfect. I highly recommend doing the Pedal Tavern ... it's a little pricey to just pedal around the neighborhood, but it's such a fun experience. All of our friends had such a spectacular time. It has the fun of riding a bike with your friends, the thrill of being a strange-looking biker in the middle of traffic and going slowly, and the joy of being able to have alcohol while you do it! Our "driver'... or steerer, I guess, read the situation and knew he could joke around with us as he went. He made sure we were all kept safe at the same time. He had bar recommendations and could accurately tell us what specials were at each before we got there. We were able to take unfinished drinks in plastic cups back onto the bike. We were all a little sore the next day, but all loved the experience. Note: you can bring extra booze on the tavern and have one of your friends play bartender. Also, you can bring music on!
