The new Milwaukee Repertory Theater - Checota Powerhouse Theater is a nice intimate theater. I saw the "Come From Away" Tony Award-winning musical and did not disappoint. This theater might be small, but it's the musical that makes it a grand experience. Conveniently located downtown, you can find ample parking in nearby parking structures or street parking. They offer drinks for before or during a show's intermission. Tickets are now paperless, so you can use your phone, but you can print your tickets too in case you want a hard copy. Affordable ticket pricing if you are a UPAF Suppprter or get in on their multi ticket / season pass. Definitely come see a play here, it's worth the leisure!

Been coming to the Rep for years. This past year they completely remodeled several of the theaters, including the Powerhouse, which has been rebranded as the Checota Powerhouse, formerly the Quadracci Powerhouse. We were there on a Saturday night to see the premiere of Come From Away. The theater and all the amenities are terrific. The entire space feels much more open and free flowing. The actual theater now has more seating, and the seats have armrests, which for me is a big plus. The stage is also larger, with more vertical space, which really enhances the overall experience. We arrived just in time for the show, and since there was no intermission, there was not much opportunity to explore the public spaces while they were fully in use. Looking forward to spending more time taking it all in at the next show, coming up in January.

Steel Magnolias is a HOOT! Such a great play performed so well by the ladies of Truvy's Salon and Chinquapin. This was our first time watching a play by Milwaukee Rep and boy! did we laugh our hearts out at the quick wit and humorous temper tantrums of the ladies. Thank you Yelp Elite for giving us the opportunity for a fun, safe time at the theatre.

Run, Bambi, Run !!!! Great stage set. Great prelim music !!!! So, much fun and history ... and having lived through it and reading the news, quite reminiscent. Even learned a few things, I didn't know. Truly a bit of Milw and Wisconsin combined (dialect, music, accents) . . . as well as the Chief Brier years. A little long . . . if it goes to a wider audience, I think it would need to be condensed a bit.

Highlights 1) Fantastic Milwaukee establishment with an amazing line up of shows every year 2) Friendly staff 3) Great season package options We love the Milwaukee Rep! This is our first year doing the season subscription (we do the 5 play package for the Quadracci Powerhouse) and it has been so fun! For less than $300 per year, we have 2 tickets to 5 shows on Thursday nights. This is such a fun way to break up the week. The subscription gets us out of our comfort zone with theatre and we see shows we may not have otherwise bought tickets too. We just recently saw Titanic the Musical and it was one of my favorite shows I've seen in Milwaukee. The talent that the Milwaukee rep brings in are diverse, talented and clearly love what they do. The staff is warm, welcoming and always able to assist. We love getting a wine before the show for act 1 and at intermission for act 2. There is a nice beer, wine and specialty cocktail selection that you are allowed to purchase and take in with you while you watch the show. We will definitely be renewing next year!

My first experience at the Rep theater was a great one! Thank you Yelp Elite for the opportunity to have such a wonderful night out. Steel Magnolias was such a fun and emotional performance. The theater itself was beautiful and clean. With masks, it was a safe experience for all. The ladies who performed are so talented! They had the audience laughing constantly. Beautiful set design. I can't wait to go back for other shows.

A Sunday night show is always a good idea!!

Went to a Sunday evening show, and sat in the right Orchestra section! Venus itself was unique in that the stage is level with the first row of seating,a much more intimate show experience! Loved that, felt part of the action! The only downfall for me was sound. It didn't appear any of the actors or actresses we're wearing microphones, and we struggled to hear some of the show. Can't imagine how anyone in balcony seats could hear anything, and an older couple nearby us was also a little frustrated (understandably so). Would likely book a show there again, but best to buy tickets up front perhaps for the best experience!

I had the opportunity to see M is for Murder and absolutely loved the venue. We had seats in the balcony which afforded a great view of the full stage. There is ample parking in the underground garage, which is easy to access without having to go outside. There's a nice gift shop in the entry as well as refreshments available. If purchased in a theater cup, the refreshments can be brought inside during the show, which is a great plus for sipping! Can't wait for my next show!

I love going out to see plays and musicals. This happened to be a brand new play so we got to enjoy the first glimpse of this writer's work. The cast was excellent and interacted well with the audience. Drinks (alcoholic or non-alcoholic) are available in the lobby, a small gift shop, and comfortable chairs to wait before the performance. The only reason I gave those four stars was the comfort of the seating area. Very cramped and uncomfortable chairs. It is especially inconvenient for people that have long legs. Other than that, very excellent evening.

Perfect girls' night out / date night! Wonderful live production. Everything from the cast, costumes and set designs were well done. We enjoyed Steel Magnolias were captivated from start to finish. It was a treat to be able to get back into the Rep to enjoy live theater once more. Staff was kind and accommodating. Ushers are volunteers and knew the theater like the back of their hand. Masks were required the entire time, and we had to show our vaccine cards to enter. There was no space between seats for social distancing. Parking was affordable and available under the building in a conveniently located parking garage. Drinks are available for purchase before the show and during intermission or you can pop over to Saint Kate for a quick bite/drink before the show - make a night of it! Ticket prices are very reasonable and there isn't a bad seat in the house.

I have seen several shows at The Rep (what it's known as for short) over the years. My first time here was so, so long ago. Most recently, I came for Animal Farm. The show itself was ok for me, but the venue I really do like! The night we went I noticed some of the top corner seats by the lights weren't occupied and doesn't look like they should be, but honestly in all of my visits, I've never had a bad seat. I've always been in the Quadracci wing, I believe. The size isn't tiny, but also isn't huge, I like that about it. It is much smaller than the Marcus but bigger than Next Act, for example. There are many shows to choose from all year round at The Rep. If you haven't had a chance to go, I'd suggest you check out the show line-up and get there!

The Milwaukee Repertory Theater has been bringing professional theater productions to Milwaukee for 63 seasons! I have been to a couple performances at The Rep and have thoroughly enjoyed both. Both shows I've seen were in the Quadracci Powerhouse (Guys & Dolls, Holmes & Watson). There's simply not a bad seat in the house. We've had 2nd row seats as well as farther back and can't complain about either experience. They offer a diverse season lineup, from musicals to mysteries to political satire--there's a show for every taste. A couple tips: +The parking situation doesn't seem to be plentiful. Both times, we took and Uber and were glad we did. +The seats closer to the front are more spacious than those farther back. If you prefer a bit more elbow room, I'd suggest purchasing your tickets far enough ahead to get in the first few rows. The Milwaukee Repertory Theater offers an exemplary evening of entertainment. I look forward to my next visit (which, I believe, will be for Animal Farm...because...I mean, c'mon. George Orwell + Live theater = genius). Get to it!

Blue Man is meant to be big on facial nuances, which are easily lost to those in the second sections. While the show was generally entertaining for all ages, it felt more like STOMP, with lots of drumming and fewer small humorous stories. The drummer was great, but I was left waiting for more physical entertainment by the Blue Men. I was disappointed, however I did hear that many in the audience are rabid fans and attend this show often. Maybe my feelings are colored by having attended BMG in a more intimate setting in Chicago, which really made the stage work pop. The theater is beautiful for larger productions, but maybe BMG can come back in a smaller stage and recapture that magic of nuances.

A word of warning--when we parked in the parking garage, there was the show we were there for and a Bucks game that evening as well which resulted in $30 parking fee. That said, it was money well spent to be able to park inside and right across the street during a snowstorm. Once we got to the theater, there was no waiting at will-call and we were able to get our tickets in a snap. The line to get in also moved quickly and there ushers waiting to direct us to our seats. All the workers made the experience easy and were friendly to boot. Our seats were on the left side in row L and no complaints about the view from there at all. Due to the storm (and possibly the economy) the theater was only about a third full so we had plenty of room to spread out. The stage is large and the sound was great throughout. I wouldn't hesitate to see another show here. Get to it!

One little bit of luck I had seating on row W was that this was the second to the last row on orchestra floor, but the last row was set up with sound tables and no one was seating there during my show. And because I had a really tall guy seating in front of me, I couldn't see anything, but I could actually flop up the fold down chair and sit up high without obscuring anyone behind me and get an unobscured view myself. So if I want cheap tickets in the back, get the very back row and sit up like that to get a better view lol. It's not comfortable though.

I too, have always been interested in this concept though the results were a mixed bag. Check in was a bit of a cluster as there were two tables next to each other, but no signs and that resulted in people shuffling back and forth because there was nothing to guide us. Once we got in the right line, we were asked to come up with a name for ourselves for the evening. Wish we had known this in advance so we could have been more creative. We then were checked in and given tickets for our food choices. There was a color-coding system that almost everyone forgot as soon as they found their table and wish they would have just labeled the damn things, "pork," or "chicken." Speaking of pork, the food overall was just okay. My apple pork was pretty good but I didn't care for the green beans. The salad was pretty good, as were the rolls. The cheesecake dessert was pretty pedestrian, likely Sara Lee or the like. After you were seated, the "host," Sue came in to lay the ground rules. I think much of my dissatisfaction stemmed from her and the two police office actors who were just a bit over the top for my tastes. Sue did not have the qualities of a good host, in my opinion. She was efficient and knew her stuff, but wasn't charming or gracious. I found her a bit grating, unfortunately. I am sure she's a lovely person she just didn't set the scene for me. I also didn't like the "interactive" portions of the event where we were encouraged to mingle with the other participants to see who was "suspicious." For those more introverted folks, this was not great. Given all that, kudos to the rest of the acting staff for injecting some fun and mystery to this event!

There was just a little time to mingle to get to know each other people/tables & their stories or cover up. The actors were pretty entertaining, but not dressed as I thought they would be in dinner show. They were pretty casual & barely any props. There was also a lot of reading for clues, which turned me off. We weren't provided the wifi at the beginning & we had to download all these articles to read as detectives. I wanted it to be more interactive, entertaining, and exciting, but it just wasn't. The chicken was rubbery & the food was just ok. My vegetarian friend had the pasta, which was very delicious. The service was professional & prompt. I won't spoil the outcome, but I was not really stumped! For $77 a ticket, per person, plus $25 to park per car, I was expecting so much more.
