The barbershop experience I've been looking for. After trying out several different shops around the city, I think I've finally found my go-to. The vibe is old school but chill. A rather intimate shop with a downtown street view, plenty of cool decor. Ellie cut my hair and did a very good job, patiently giving me suggestions on my particular situation (textured crew cut for thinning AND receding hair). I walked out of there looking great and feeling great! Both her, John the owner, and even the other men getting their cuts provided great conversation and restaurant recommendations. I was a first time customer and took an appointment that was convenient for me. It is a 4 chair shop and my appt was with a fairly new barber 3 months on the job. She was a little curt and started cutting my hair and asked is that the right length. I couldn't tell based on the small area she cut, and said so. She said she only had scheduled one hair cit not two, so if I wanted more cut after she finished that would be a problem. I trusted her and wound up with a very short haircut. Not what I wanted. Haircut, magazine options, and conversation was all absolutely fantastic here. I took my boyfriend for a haircut that wasn't $8 for the first time today and, believe it or not, a more expensive cut is worth it! Made a 2 pm appointment but was running slightly behind so I called and said I'd be a few minutes late. Guy said no problem. Showed up at 2:09pm - sat and waited 3 minutes. Kate, barber appears with came in and said I was too late. She complained that had to leave to pick up her child. She said after 15 minutes they auto-cancel. It was 2:12. I looked at the guy who took the call and he shrugged it off. Another barber was finishing someone else's hair and I asked if anyone was going to be able to help but nothing but plank stares. Was basically walked out. Totally disappointed. Worst humiliating experience ever. Good luck with that service. read more

Terrific barber shop in downtown Milwaukee. This place is new but has an old-school barber shop feel, complete with old photos all over the wall. Great cuts, good conversation, and a comfortable spot to get a great style. I recommend Kate, but friends go to Jont and Kelly and rave as much as I do. Tailored cuts are $30; buzz cuts are $20. It's taken me far too long to get around to writing my review for this awesome shop but I finally remembered and made time to leave this shop the 5-star rating it deserves. Fist of all Jont is amazing! He goes above and beyond for his clients and did so for me as well. I don't want to go into detail about what he did for me because I don't want too many clients and potential clients to ask for the same treatment but if you're reading this, Jont, thank you so much for being so accommodating! Most importantly, he gave me a great haircut. Flew in from LA to Milwaukee and didn't have the time to get a haircut prior, so it was such a relief that I could get a great haircut away from my usual barbers. I asked for a skin to high fade and my wish was granted with little direction. Lastly, Jont has built a beautiful, clean, and welcoming shop. I'll be visiting the area again in April and cannot wait to get my second haircut here.... oh and also see the Dodgers beat the Brewers again =]. read more

Yes, this is a REAL barbershop! Don't be fooled by salons that cater to men. Jont is an old pro, and Kate and the others are trained barbers, too. I have a straightforward hairstyle (a slightly modern take on the standard business cut) and won't risk those chain places but also don't want to pay $40 for a beer and cable TV. I just want a good, affordable haircut! Plus, I'm busy and don't have time to walk in and wait around like many barbers require. Making an appointment is simple via their website which will send you lots of reminders (critical for me!). Jont is obsessed with customer service (he's old school that way), and the others share his commitment to professionalism. The shop is clean and comfortable. Moved to Milwaukee in 2019 and got a bad haircut elsewhere in town so I took to Yelp and found Milwaukee Street Barbershop. My first haircut was with Jont and it was amazing one of the best haircuts I've had. Jont is an amazing barber but has a huge fan base so you need to schedule with him far in advance. In need of a haircut I saw Kate had availability's and decided to give her a try and she has become my go-to barber. I have booked with her 2-3 times and have gotten the best haircuts of my life. Also, I told her to take an inch off the top (and my longest strand of hair went past my nose) and I damn near have a buzz cut now. Talk about a great experience and a terrific beard trim. I am new to the area and I was trying to find my new barbershop. After doing some research, I found this hidden gem in my neighborhood. I would recommend calling ahead for an appointment because it seems like he has a good customer base. As soon as I sat down he asked what I was going for and want to do with my beard. I explained to him and he started on both sides with an electric razor. The first time I thought it was too long still, so I redid both sides. Then he shaped the front as well, and my upper lip area. During the time we talked about Milwaukee, the military and what not. He is a pretty good conversationalist which is one of the qualities I like in my barber. After he finished with my beard he laid me back and gave my a clean razor shave on my neck. Nothing is better than a clean razor shave. All in all, I was impressed and this will be my new barber. Sidenote: It was $15.00 for the beard trim but he give military, veterans and policemen a $5.00 discount for our service. I really appreciate places that take care of those who keep us safe. Jont is the best barber I have ever found in Wisconsin. He pays very close detail to your grooming needs and is very friendly. I love that this barbershop uses straight razors to really give a clean finish. Even though I live 2 hours north, I try to schedule my haircuts for when I will be in Milwaukee. When I was married in the third ward, I made sure that my best man and brother-in-law got a haircut here so we would all look our best. They are also very technology savvy and will send email and text confirmations as well as reminders (you can opt out, but I really needed it to remind me to be on time) and are very accommodating if you need to reschedule. Junt is the true definition of a barber, the cut was great the neck shave a nice surprise, and an overall great experience. If you live or work in Milwaukee you need to come see this guy. Looking good is important to me, so before I found Jont at the Milwaukee St. Barber shop, I acted counter character and spent $50 for some supposedly "fancy" haircut. It was good, but wasn't exactly what I wanted, and was outrageously priced for a man's haircut. That is when I found Jont. Jont listens to what I want for my hair cut, and gives me the perfect cut every time. He is fast and efficient, yet will spend all the time you need to get the perfect cut, and leaves me feeling sharp. I receive countless complements on every hair cut I get, and it grows out so well that if I wanted, I could go half the year without coming back.
