Sam was the one who cut my hair. In terms of efficiency, availability, and flexibility to get me in sooner than my appointment I give a 5/5. I brought in some reference photos and when my hair was fully cut and styled I wasn't sure if I liked it or not. I walked out feeling egg like, but after washing, and styling on my own I was a little happier with it. Unfortunately, in my opinion, having your hair cut is an intimate experience where meshing with your stylist is important (at least to me) and it all felt very impersonal. It felt rather rushed, and at times I felt the blade get stuck in my hair because too much was being cut with very swift motions. I have thick hair, and smaller pieces are best to work a blade through. I am grateful to have been fit in sooner, to have cut off my hair, but I give the hair cutting aspect a 3/5.

Judging by previous happy customers with gorgeous hair color results on Yelp, ML Salon definitely showed experience and skill with Asian hair. We walked in and asked Michelle to help us. I called ahead of time to ask about magic straight perm and was informed she could only quote me in person; understandably so. So, I went in a few hours after speaking with the owner on the phone. She quoted me fairly and I accepted. But shortly after, she talked very negatively about my hair. Her comments included that my hair was severely damaged and asked me if I liked my hair cut "like that" nodding to my newly grown in baby hairs (I'm a few months postpartum). I finally informed her that I'm newly postpartum. When she was prepping for the perm, she told me to wash my hair. And pointed me in the direction in which I should go. She told me to take off my glasses, so I walked without them and held them while I sat in the chair. As I was getting situated, she yelled at me as I was navigating the hair wash chair, "move forward!" Several times, aggressively, loudly, when honestly from my perspective it was scooting backward for one, but also I couldn't see without my glasses. It was at this point I was seriously considering just getting up and leaving but she had already trimmed my hair. I'm 3 days post-perm and results look fine, but honestly given my treatment by the owner I will not return. Very disappointed, as I was looking forward to a positive salon experience postpartum.

However, I've been a fan of "Great Clips" as their stylists have always done a wonderful job to the many various locations. The one I am focusing on is one of their two locations in Rancho Cordova; this is at 2350 Sunrise Blvd. This particular Great Clips is in a fairly busy strip mall that neighbors "Chipotle", and "Pieology Pizzeria". Parking can get busy due to the vast amount of food establishments in the area. Since I work in Rancho Cordova, I arrived right after work at around 5:15pm. The best way to get yourself a stylist in a quick turnaround time is to check-in on the Great Clips mobile app. What makes this convenient is that is shows estimated times in all of the locations in a certain radius. But what really drew me into coming here is that I received a Facebook notification offering a discounted coupon of $12.99 for a haircut. Normally the charge is around $22.00 so this was a fairly decent price when major competitors and barbers charge in between $20-30. Once checking in, my stylist was able to seat me right away as there no other customers inside. What I particularly like about Great Clips is that no matter which location you visit, they keep a record of how exactly you would like your hair to be cut/styled. For me it is a low-fade 1/2" with a number 7 on top. My entire haircut only took about 15 minutes and I was done by 5:30pm. Best of all, they do accept cash, debit, credit, and Apple Pay/Google Pay. All in all, this was an above average experience. My stylist was non-talkative but in the past, I've gotten stylists that want to make conversation with you. I am a social person so if someone is in the mood to talk, I am all for it. To sum things up, the Rancho Cordova (Sunrise) "Great Clips" was bright, spacious, clean, and convenient. With that said and done, I am giving this location an above average four stars.

I could not believe the blonde level she got my hair to, there was no yellow in the highlights. This is a super rare salon experience for me. Shaqi took her time with each foil, got the thickness exactly right so the highlights contrast my base color instead of blending into mush, and made sure every section was properly saturated. She did not rush the foiling. She clearly cared about the final product and it showed. I also appreciate that she straightened my hair rather than curling it. I feel like many stylists curl and then you leave the salon thinking your hair looks good and don't notice how bad the cut or color is until you get home and wash/style your hair days later.
