This was my first time trying Georgian food, and I can confidently say I'm a fan now…read more Everything we ordered was genuinely delicious. The standout for me was the mushroom dumplings. I was a little unsure about them at first, but they ended up being a 10 out of 10. I was honestly craving more as soon as I finished them. Of course, we had to try the Acharuli Classic cheese boat, and it absolutely lived up to the hype. The staff kindly showed us how to mix and eat it, which made the experience even better. The cheese was incredibly rich, flavorful, and perfectly balanced. We loved it so much that we ordered another version, the Imeruli cheese pie, and it was just as good. One thing to note is that the food is very filling, especially with how cheese-heavy it is, so come hungry. The upside is that the leftovers hold up really well. I reheated mine in the oven, and it tasted almost as good as it did fresh, which was a pleasant surprise. Overall, this place completely won me over. I'm excited to come back, try more of the menu, and definitely reorder the mushroom dumplings, Acharuli Classic, and Imeruli.

We came on a saturday…read morebut it got pretty busy especially since it was the same day as the St. Patty's bar crawl. I would highly recommend calling in to reserve a table in case! Drink ordered: Tarragon Georgian Soda (10/10): the color is intimidating but the flavor is so delicious! Almost herb/licorice-like even though I don't like licorice. We ended up getting 2 bottles of this since we drank it so fast from the hot weather Food ordered: Bacon Acharuli Khachapuri (7/10): comes with the egg! Score is lowered because they forgot the bacon and gave it to us after we had finished a good portion of it but it came uncooked (apparently the bacon is supposed to cook in the cheese) but since we were almost already done with it, we requested for the bacon to be cooked separately. I would opt for the classic next time and not the bacon because it already was amazing without it. If we didn't have the issue with the forgotten bacon, this would be 9/10 for me. Chicken Mtsvadi (8/10): It was pretty good but in comparison to everything else we ordered, it didn't stand out. I did enjoy the sauce it came with though! Soko Ketsze (9/10): I really liked the mushroom especially with the cheese and definitely feel like this is more like a shared appetizer. Beef Georgian dumplings (10/10): my biggest fear with these is that they're always going to somehow taste gamey but this wasn't at all! I loved the seasoning and how it's like a giant xiao long bao. I definitely would get these again and try the other flavors as well! These are a must get if you come! Georgian Chocolate Honey Cake (10/10): get this. Just make sure you get this if you love a honey cake. The chocolate makes it that much better Napoleon (9/10): soft, flakey with light cream. An absolute dream but the honey cake was my fave 100% will be coming back!

We tried their Pkhali Spinach which is an acquired taste and the beef khinkali dumplings, which had good flavor. We also tried the assortment of drinks from the traditional Georgian soda (pear and tarragon flavors) and the mixed berry compote. The tarragon tastes like fennel/licorice. We wanted the Chakpuri, but they stopped selling it when we arrived at 6:30, since they had run out, so make sure you arrive early to try it! Please note that the food does take a while to arrive. We waited 30 minutes for food, but the staff are very nice and the owner spends a lot of time and effort in ensuring quality food. Generally, there is plenty of space and never too full, but they do take reservations. Note that the restaurant is rather pricey, but it is well worth.

After being Tired of the same boring chain restaurants in the bay area (I.e. pacific catch, lazy…read moredog) my family and I wanted a more unique and vibrant culinary experience for our family dinner. Left with the task of choosing that nights restaurant, I found Tamari, fitting perfectly as my step-mother is Georgian. A great choice it was. Upon arriving we were greeted gracefully by the owner, Shalva, who helped us in choosing a nice wine to pair with our dinner. We then went over the menu with both by my step mother and Shalva guiding the rest of us through the menu, and we made some great selections. Upon sharing conversation with the owner, I revealed to him I am Romanian, to which he brought me out one of his own personal bottles of Romanian beer he ironically had himself and gifted it to me. I was immediately blown away the generous hospitality! That truly made my night! Then out came the Imeruli and Acharuli (see pictured) khachapuri. Both included crispy golden crusts with savory cheeses that melted in your mouth. The only regret after eating the khachapuri would be that you hadn't ordered more! Seriously, the khachapuri is so good that you could get multiples of these as your dinner and still be completely satisfied! They are that good! That was then proceeded by the eggplant rolls (see pictured) stuffed with walnut pesto. An interesting combination of flavors that blended perfectly together, followed by the khinkali (lamb dumplings see pictured), of which we were most excited for! Cracking on some black pepper on to the pillowy dough for dumplings, as soon as you bit into them you tastebuds were met with a hit savory broth and an indulging sort of lamb meatballs that were nicely seasoned. These were also extremely satisfying to savor. Lastly we received some fried potatoes and mushrooms (see pictured) of which my mother pointed out the Georgian seasonings upon them that proved quite tasty, and lamb kebabs alongside a lamb stew (see pictured.) Both were quite tender and nicely seasoned. Throughout our whole dinner and after we spent time sharing stories with the kind owner Shalva, who proved to be an excellent host. We couldn't leave without ordering some khachapuri and a bottle of wine to take home. We most look forward to returning to Tamari to where we plan to bring some friends to accompany us to broaden people's insight on cuisine you wouldn't typically find any day. Thank you Shalva, we will be back!

Ever find a place to be...lacking hospitality to new faces in a restaurant?…read more Let's talk about the service first. We came on a Friday night and there were 2-3 other tables. Our server did not give us a breakdown of any dish, or even the categories on the menu (which by the way, are in Russian). They kinda expected us to "know" everything on the menu. My wife and I ended up googling EVERYTHING, and deciding on what to eat after reading other yelp reviews and what the dishes looked like. After taking a good 10mins of googling and figuring out what to order, we had to raise our hand several times, to a point where we had to call our waiter over vocally and with a hand wave to take our order. The restaurant really isn't big with only 2 other tables being occupied, and I guess locals do come here often and chat with the servers, but we're talking a good extra 5min of not looking at a menu and just waiting. People are raving about the service but I personally just didn't experience the same kind of hospitality. We ordered a borsch, a beef stroganoff, and a viennese schnitzel. I wouldn't say the food came out slow, but it was at the pace of a homecooked meal. The borsh tasted a lot better than ones I've had, and the sour cream was very creamy and fresh. The beef stroganoff was the star of the show with how flavorful and creamy it was. The beef was very tender, and the kasha was especially good. It's definitely enough to fill one person up. The viennese schnitzel is basically a fried pork cutlet (like a katsu) but with different seasonings and paired with some kind of red sauce. The mashed potatoes...were just mashed potatoes. The portion felt a little small for the price for what you get, pork cutlet and mashed potatoes being $27. I can see how authentic this place is, but being tucked so far away in Richmond naturally gets it lower foot traffic than other more accessible spots. The food is delicious and if people are willing to take their grandparents here, then you know it's authentic. I just wish the service was more attentive. The portions to price ratio was also pretty low, and I left feeling a little hungry despite spending $75 before tax and tip for 2. This place is feels more geared to reminiscing a childhood flavor with the family over a date night IMO.

The Lamb Chop Mangal definitely tasted gamey, if you like the taste of lamb you're gonna love the flavor of this dish, it doesn't get hidden. I would skip the pirogi, a small portion of 1 for $10 and nothing special you can't get at a Russian bakery. Tea was flavorful, lasted 3 of us throughout the dinner (with hot water refills). For dessert we had 3 options, but 1 was out, so we got the honey cake and settled for the pavlova. Honey cake was the definite favorite, dense and creamy, exactly how it should be. The service was intimate. We had the host, bartender, and server checking up on us frequently. To be fair we had the place to ourselves the first half of dinner (around opening 5pm, then people started crowding in around 6). A tip for this restaurant is to get the inkind rewards app to get $50 toward your next $150+ visit or you can also use the blackbird app here as well.
