We started with the lamb dumplings, which were packed with flavorful filling and a rich, savory broth. For an appetizer, we enjoyed the eggplant rolls served with a walnut sauce delicately flavored with fenugreek and coriander. The Megruli Khachapuri was a standout a smoky, cheese-filled Georgian bread that was rich and comforting. For our main course, we had the Chakapuli, a traditional stew with a distinctive tang from green plums that gave the dish a unique and memorable flavor.

The dirty and dim dining room was matched only by his repulsive demeanor. First of all, the place didn't open at the time listed. Then when we arrived, the waiter scoffed at our ordering choices, saying they were only sides and not intended to be consumed like we were going to consume them. I guess the customer is NOT always right? Then he told us our second selection wouldn't be ready for another thirty minutes despite it being a simple vegetable dish. He then brought us our beet pkhalis which looked almost sickly, but he was so adamant about our failure to consume his cuisine properly that he basically kicked us out the door (at the very least we didn't feel pressured to eat the clearly subpar food). If we had even eaten the food (which he was angry weren't the primary dishes), we would have racked up a bill of over $60, an absurd price for any casual restaurant but especially this one. Even if the food was exceptional, the service would be enough to deter any return trip. Honestly, we walked away happily given that we didn't learn the hard way, monetarily speaking, that Tamari is a uniquely crummy establishment. By the way, the same people own Georgian Cheese Boat in North Beach in San Francisco, so I recommend avoiding it as well, given that it's subject to the same unseemly waiters and the same horrifying cost for disappointing cuisine. Good riddance.

At that time, the bill was handwritten for me to check, and then I put down the credit card, a staff came with a POS machine. I clicked 15%, signed, and saw the total charge went to $43.xx, so I checked the handwritern bill again and realized the staff made a mistake (the total of the pre-tax food items should be $33 and but she wrote $35). I pointed it out, the staff apologized, and gave me $2 cash. So far everything should be fine, an honest mistake and the staff was very nice about it. However, this does not explain why my credicard was eventually charged $45 instead of the $43 I signed for. Were there uncommon charges in San Francisco, and is it allowed that the resterant owner to not inform customer about it & not showed them in the final amount (after tax and tip) on the bill?

The schnitzel was well fried and the mashed potatoes were very buttery! The Sauerkraut was the highlight and even my German friend loved it! Since I went during lunch time, the restaurant was also very quiet. It was also very walkable to a lot of other stores in the Richmond district. The service was great as well. Overall, the food & service were good but it was a bit pricey for schnitzels.

The food wasn't bad, although the portions were quite small. However, that wasn't nearly as disappointing as the service. At first, we were served by a man who looked to be around 40 years old. He was very unpleasant. It felt like we owed him something. He didn't even want to come close to our table, and every time we asked a question, he answered as if he wasn't happy to have customers there. To be honest, we were really excited to visit because we had been missing our traditional cuisine so much. But after just five minutes with this waiter, I decided I would never come back. We asked several times for the dumplings without herbs, but they arrived covered with herbs anyway. Mistakes happen--we understand that. The problem was that he didn't apologize or say anything at all. He simply took the dish away. Later, a young waitress brought us the correct order. She seemed a little friendlier, but only for the first few minutes. After everything that happened, we had lost our appetite. We ate what we could, and when the bill arrived, we said we would be paying by card. The waitress replied with an annoyed attitude, "Well then, come with me." During the entire hour we spent there, not a single staff member smiled at us even once. That may seem like a small thing, but for customers it makes a huge difference. Replace these two waiters, and your restaurant will truly shine.

We ordered the borscht which comes in two sizes. The borscht came out out warm and hot. It was very delicious and nutritious. Rye bread is included with the soup. We also had the beef Gouda dumplings and lamp dumplings. The dumplings are pelmeni which are a little smaller than the traditional vareniki however the filling is very strong and delicious. The condiments to go along with the food were located near their dumpling freezer. Last item was the beef handpie. Pretty good ! But wished it had more filling. Very good with some sour cream. Service is quick. Ordered at the front and picked up order when called. This is a no frills place so it's a quick grab n go lunch or sit down at the restaurant if you please. Would come back !

For this trip we tried the Borsh and the Salmon & Beef/Gouda dumplings. I'll start with the dumplings; super flavorful! The Beef/Gouda was fantastic with the sour cream versus the Garlic sauce and I'd have to say this one was my favorite out of the food we got. 5/5 The salmon one was good, coconut charcoal is what the black color is from, but you can't expect a coconut flavor just because you see the word on there. This one was also very good; I preferred this one with the garlic sauce instead. 4/5* The Borsh unfortunately for me was good, but it came out luke warm at best, not sure how you can serve hot soup, but it was still flavorful and good despite being cold. Make sure to add sour cream to your soup! 3/5* Overall, this place is very good! If they had more accessible hours we'd come on the weekends. It's also downtown and parking on the meters around the restaurant is $4.25/hour for those whom are curious.
