Georgian chocolate honey cake
Chloe L.

My second time having Georgian food and this place came highly recommended! We came on a saturday but it got pretty busy especially since it was the same day as the St. Patty's bar crawl. I would highly recommend calling in to reserve a table in case! Drink ordered: Tarragon Georgian Soda (10/10): the color is intimidating but the flavor is so delicious! Almost herb/licorice-like even though I don't like licorice. We ended up getting 2 bottles of this since we drank it so fast from the hot weather Food ordered: Bacon Acharuli Khachapuri (7/10): comes with the egg! Score is lowered because they forgot the bacon and gave it to us after we had finished a good portion of it but it came uncooked (apparently the bacon is supposed to cook in the cheese) but since we were almost already done with it, we requested for the bacon to be cooked separately. I would opt for the classic next time and not the bacon because it already was amazing without it. If we didn't have the issue with the forgotten bacon, this would be 9/10 for me. Chicken Mtsvadi (8/10): It was pretty good but in comparison to everything else we ordered, it didn't stand out. I did enjoy the sauce it came with though! Soko Ketsze (9/10): I really liked the mushroom especially with the cheese and definitely feel like this is more like a shared appetizer. Beef Georgian dumplings (10/10): my biggest fear with these is that they're always going to somehow taste gamey but this wasn't at all! I loved the seasoning and how it's like a giant xiao long bao. I definitely would get these again and try the other flavors as well! These are a must get if you come! Georgian Chocolate Honey Cake (10/10): get this. Just make sure you get this if you love a honey cake. The chocolate makes it that much better Napoleon (9/10): soft, flakey with light cream. An absolute dream but the honey cake was my fave 100% will be coming back!

My bro recommend this as a unique delicious meal for our fam and did it deliver! I've never had Georgian food and am now a fan. Location is in the heart of the busy North Beach neighborhood. Loved the pink art-laden interior and friendly welcome for our party of 6. The owner was also there and he had great recommendations. We ordered a variety of the menu and highly recommend the following; -Classic cheese boat (kachapuri)- freshly baked bread, yummy rich salty cheese, an egg yolk and butter. What more can you ask for? Once you swirl them in the bread boat and take a bite, it's heaven in your mouth. Great to share or hoard to yourself. My toddler had to have the last bite. -Salad combo- refreshing colorful veggies mixed with walnuts, herbs, vinegar and garlic rolled into balls. Tasty with their fresh bread. -Kharcho (beef soup) - one of the most flavorful and delicious soups. Vibrant yet comforting on a cold day. - Shkmerui- Cornish game hen in a super tasty milky garlic sauce. - Chocolate honey cake and poached pear- both desserts were a nice yummy finish! Highly recommend trying this place for a unique authentic Georgian experience- the cheese boats are an absolute must for the carb enthusiast!

Appetizer combo with eggplant rolls and pkhali
Matt J.

It hurts my heart to say it because i love so much about Georgian Cheese Boat, but it has gone downhill in quality, quantity and presentation. They used to give larger portions in their appetizer combo, especially the eggplant which is my favorite. Now there are fewer pieces of it, and the dish no longer feels like a worthy tasting of the various starters. Plus, the ratio of walnut paste to vegetable is way too heavy on the farmer, making it difficult for the eggplant and bell pepper to cut through the heavily-salted spread. Also, while it isn't a big deal, the older presentation of the combo on a wooden pedestal lent it extra charm, making the new conventional plate a letdown. The combo dish already felt like a splurge, but now it just feels unjustified. The service has never been immaculate, but it was especially tough to get our server's attention in an empty restaurant. We had to flag him down for water, to place our order and to get the bill as he was always seated at the bar facing the opposite direction. Admittedly, the pkhali are so good that they're still worth the occasional trip, but the overall experience has fallen off and Georgian Cheese Boat will have left the usual rotation.

GCB is the kind of establishment that elevates the whole city's credibility as food destination. I got a chance to try their flagship offerings -- cheese boat and dumplings, both were excellent. Highly recommend the mushroom dumplings.

I stopped by on a Monday evening. Ordered the acharuli khachapuri with bacon online in advance. I was quoted 20 minutes, but it was ready in less than 15 minutes, packed in a flat pizza-like box. Staff was friendly at pickup. And the setting was inviting and had quite a bit of indoor seating available for dine-in. The cheese boat was definitely cheesy and super rich. A bit salty too, not from the bacon rather from the cheese. The bread was soft and flavorful combined with all the cheesy goodness. This was a filling dish and good for two meals.

Beef Khinkali

I just came back from Georgia because of my best friend's Georgian Wedding. I wanted to try this place a short walk from my mom's house, hoping it might serve the best of the food my friend has shown me. I must say- I've tried a few Georgian places and true to its name, the Adjaruli Khachapuri (the "Georgian Cheese Boat") does not disappoint. This tasted exactly like the one from Georgia. I am so excited to try it again and show it to my friends. On the other hand, the Khinkalis were lousy. They weren't neat at all, looked hastily put together, and the meat itself was spicy for some reason, and not succulent enough. So why the 5 stars? Simply because there are almost no other Georgian restaurants in the city and I would like to support this place. I want them to give me a reason to spend more by improving the Khinkalis in the future, but I'll be back to sail the seven seas on that cheese boat, any day of the week. Bon voyage!

Khachapuri classic
Liz I.

I've been wanting to try this place for a while and it didn't disappoint. We didn't have reservations, but arrived early and snagged a table, which was fortunate because they filled up pretty quickly soon thereafter. We ordered the khachapuri classic and the kebab plate. The khachapuri bread was divine - warm, fresh and just perfect. If I had to nitpick it would be that the egg was a little cold and the dish itself a bit salty. The kebab was delicious, loved the herbs and the potato wedges were really good. The plate comes with a tiny piece of lavash so we asked for extra bread. Husband also tried the Georgian beer, which while good was a bit flat. Menu had many tempting options, looking forward to returning and trying other dishes.

Ajapsandali
Mindy H.

This is my first time trying Georgian food and it was okay - the cheese boats were a bit salty. I wasn't a big fan of the Shkmeruli as the chicken was a bit dry. The Ajapsandali was really good though and I liked eating it with the kubdari.

We went to the restaurant to try Georgian food and was instructed that we could sit anywhere. We picked a table to our liking. We reviewed the menu and ordered several dishes and wine. While sipping on the wine and waiting for the food, the server suddenly directs us in a brusque manner to change table, to a much smaller table "because he expects a lot of guests." Some more guests arrive but not so many so we couldn't had kept our table. We pointed this out to him but he insisted that we should keep the much smaller table. He offered us no compensation, such as a dessert or at least a charming smile for the discomfort and unnecessarily brusque treatment. He acted smug when we pointed out that his behavior was rude and he didn't even apologize. The food was ok but nothing earth shattering. As the name of the restaurant implies, the food is very heavy on cheese. The restaurant didn't really have any ambience that felt warm or inviting and looked like a run-of-the-mill pizzeria. We will not go back.

Hinkali
Vsevolod K.

Amazing Georgian Restaurant! I'm from Russia, and I have to say-Georgian cuisine completely won me over! The khinkali were absolutely incredible: juicy, fresh, and authentic. The wine was delicious, and the uncle who served us was extremely friendly, warm, and welcoming. The whole atmosphere felt very kind and genuine. Everything was polite, fast, and super tasty. I definitely recommend visiting this restaurant-you'll enjoy every moment!

Rkatsiteli Qvevri, Askaneli 2016
Lisa X.

My friend and I came here recently during Fleet Week. After walking around North Beach we decided to pop into Georgian Cheese Boat for dinner. The first thing we noticed, very Pink interior. We decided to sit by the window and people watch. My friend was interested in trying the Rkatsiteli Qeveri, a type of amber wine buried underground in an earthenware pot, some for up to 50 years. So we ordered that. Next I wanted to try their Khinkali (dumplings), but they were sold out that day. Bummer. So we got an order of the Chicken Kebab instead. Next, we got the Khachapuri which is a traditional Georgian dish of cheese-filled bread and what this restaurant is named after. Loved the cheesy khachapuri and the wine. The chicken kebab was okay, not that memorable. Would come back to try the dumplings tho. Service was okay. Located on Grant Ave between Columbus and the small Fresno Street.

For our anniversary, I had been dreaming of eating khachapuri for almost a year, so we decided to celebrate at a Georgian restaurant. I highly recommend trying the Georgian beer--it was a surprise favorite for me! I usually don't enjoy beer, but this one was so good that I wanted to have it at home. Every dish we tried was delicious, and we left feeling happy and satisfied. The service was pleasantly polite. We'll definitely be back! P.S. If I had to mention a downside, it would be the lighting, which felt a bit dim.

Phkali spinach, phkali beets, phkali carrots, rolled egglplant, stuffed red bell pepper but no tolma
Pink P.

Their food was ok. Services was not. I liked their cheese boat so went there few time but last time I visited, their service went downhill. We ordered "combo" plate and it was missing tolma. So we asked why tolma is missing. Their answer was it was always like that and when I asked then why did menu said they are included in the menu, Nd of course they didn't give me straight answer and their attitude was like take it or leave it. I don't know that's how this place marking money, remove the foods even it's in the menu, but that small thing is more like a trust issue. Who knows what they put or remove in the food. Hard pass from now on.

Spinach khashipuri. So delicious.

For this trip we tried the Borsh and the Salmon & Beef/Gouda dumplings. I'll start with the dumplings; super flavorful! The Beef/Gouda was fantastic with the sour cream versus the Garlic sauce and I'd have to say this one was my favorite out of the food we got. 5/5 The salmon one was good, coconut charcoal is what the black color is from, but you can't expect a coconut flavor just because you see the word on there. This one was also very good; I preferred this one with the garlic sauce instead. 4/5* The Borsh unfortunately for me was good, but it came out luke warm at best, not sure how you can serve hot soup, but it was still flavorful and good despite being cold. Make sure to add sour cream to your soup! 3/5* Overall, this place is very good! If they had more accessible hours we'd come on the weekends. It's also downtown and parking on the meters around the restaurant is $4.25/hour for those whom are curious.

I guess the customer is NOT always right? Then he told us our second selection wouldn't be ready for another thirty minutes despite it being a simple vegetable dish. He then brought us our beet pkhalis which looked almost sickly, but he was so adamant about our failure to consume his cuisine properly that he basically kicked us out the door (at the very least we didn't feel pressured to eat the clearly subpar food). If we had even eaten the food (which he was angry weren't the primary dishes), we would have racked up a bill of over $60, an absurd price for any casual restaurant but especially this one. Even if the food was exceptional, the service would be enough to deter any return trip. Honestly, we walked away happily given that we didn't learn the hard way, monetarily speaking, that Tamari is a uniquely crummy establishment. He was very unpleasant. It felt like we owed him something. He didn't even want to come close to our table, and every time we asked a question, he answered as if he wasn't happy to have customers there. To be honest, we were really excited to visit because we had been missing our traditional cuisine so much. But after just five minutes with this waiter, I decided I would never come back. We asked several times for the dumplings without herbs, but they arrived covered with herbs anyway. Mistakes happen--we understand that. The problem was that he didn't apologize or say anything at all. He simply took the dish away. Later, a young waitress brought us the correct order. She seemed a little friendlier, but only for the first few minutes. After everything that happened, we had lost our appetite. We ate what we could, and when the bill arrived, we said we would be paying by card. The waitress replied with an annoyed attitude, "Well then, come with me." During the entire hour we spent there, not a single staff member smiled at us even once. That may seem like a small thing, but for customers it makes a huge difference.
