I was in the area taking a meeting and wanted to try something new for dinner. I pulled up Yelp and found Mimmo Italian and was very excited from the jump. Luckily it lived up to the hype and my expectations! It's a carryout place, FYI, with a few chairs for waiting if you walk in and order which is what I did. They do have online orders, which I tried to do ahead of time, but my card was being dumb so I decided to just swing by and order IRL. That gave me ample time to check everything out, too! Upon walking in I was charmed by the staff who were VERY nice (and offered me lots of gelato to sample as I waited for my order!). The second thing I noticed were the delicious looking baked goods and desserts behind the counter. Breads, cookies, cannoli, tiramisu, cheesecakes, etc. I grabbed a chocolate chunk cookie to nibble on during the drive home plus a strawberry cheesecake and tiramisu for dessert. All were outstanding! For our entrees I ordered a couple of things for my husband and I to split--the chicken parm sandwich and a margarita calzone with added Italian sausage. LOVED both but my favorite was definitely the calzone. If you're a fan of a gooey, cheese situation you're gonna love it too. Also the portions are HUGE! I got both for us but we could have split one of them. Each was double what I expected and we had leftovers for days! The gelato was also excellent. They offer several sizes, including pints, perfect for taking home and stocking the freezer. They didn't have the flavor I wanted pre-scooped in the cooler (the cherry stracciatella) but they kindly hooked me up. So good!! Speaking of coolers, they also have another cooler stocked with a ton of beverages, including some fancy imported Italian sodas (many I had to look up while I waited since I didn't recognize them). They also have a few dry goods. Not a ton but a few some bonus goodies like pasta sauces, olive oil, jarred preserves, etc, to pick up when you stop in to grab dinner or dessert. I wish I lived a bit closer but they're not TOO far and I'd absolutely go out of my way to get everything again. Especially because the portions which would feed us for a few days! read more

I was recommended this restaurant by my father, who stays in Wixom and visits all the time. The first time I went, I had the biggest Italian sandwich I'd ever seen on a hulking loaf of fresh bread. The second time, I had their Salsicia e' Rapini 12" pizza. Actually, 2 days in a row I had that pizza. I also enjoyed the Vanilla Latte from the cafe, and for a normal latte -- it was way better than I expected it to be (South Lyon isn't known for its coffee) . My observations were: * This place is so clean and vibrant. * The freshness of the ingredients definitely comes across. * I think you can expect a high quality meal from this place, no matter what you get! * If I liked Gelato I would have gotten it from here for sure! read more

For my 1401st review, I wanted to try someplace that looked really enticing; a spot that I've been meaning to cross off my list for a minute but just haven't had the opportunity to try yet. Enter Mimmo's of South Lyon, whose website does a phenomenal job of highlighting the quality of what they're all about. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND! Clean and bright inside, with a super friendly staff and incredible eats! My pizza and sub came out pretty fast considering I placed a walk-in order. It was shortly after they opened so I'd expect that at peak dinner hours they're running longer wait times?! I ordered a Classic Italian sub on a BEAUTIFUL sesame seeded artisan baguette. It was a huge sandwich. For comparison's sake, I'll mention that I very much like a Jersey Mike's sub and usually order two when I'm really ready to eat my feelings...the one sub from Mimmo's was enough for lunch and then lunch the next day too. (Disclaimer: there is a lot of bread as it came on their freshly baked baguettes but if you love bread it's pretty incredible; the proportion of toppings to bread was perfect.) I also ordered a medium 12" Salsicia e' Rapini pizza to cover my bases. It had a good amount of broccoli rabe lending a balanced bitterness to the ground Italian sausage, and the roasted garlic bits with their sweetness really rounded out the profile of the pie, all cheesy with the mozzarella and Romano and served up on a great crust. The only advice I have is: follow my lead and order a gelato while you wait and don't forget to take a pint home for dessert, too. It doesn't get any better than Mimmo's! It's a spendy option no doubt but it was well worth it if you're looking for something extraordinary. read more

Found this cute little Italian takeout spot in South Lyon and had to give it a whirl. I was so impressed with the freshness of everything. The margherita pizza was delicious! The fresh mozzarella and basil were perfect and you can tell. I'm not sure if it's wood fired, but the crust/dough was cooked to my liking! I don't like pizza that's too thick or doughy. We also got a beet salad, and the balsamic vinaigrette dressing was perfect. I love that they used golden beets in addition to red beets! I devoured it. We also got some gelato to-go. I did a split scoop of lemon sorbetto and cantaloupe sorbetto. OMG, the cantaloupe sorbetto was so unique and tastes just like cantaloupe. So refreshing and delicious! I can't wait to go back and try more items on the menu! I forgot to take pictures because I was so hungry, we just started eating right away! Gave this place a try recently. I saw a lot of people post about gelato. I did not try Genaro but I ordered the eggplant sandwich. It amazing. I loved how the eggplant was breaded and cooked. I loved the bun. I'm really picky about breads. I would order this every time! The place is clean. The staff is wonderful. They have a pretty big lunch menu. Thank you Mimmo's! We ordered our son's graduation dinner take out style. The food was amazing! My whole family raved about the entire meal: roasted chicken was juicy, potatoes were delicious, broccolini was tender and tasty, pasta was done perfectly. But the showstopper was the sausage and peppers - there is no doubt this was the best dinner we have had from Mimmos. We had a last minute change of plans when, instead of going out for dinner, my family wanted to eat at home. Since I wasn't prepared, I called Mimmo Italian and asked if they could do a half tray of lasagna for me. They were able to have it ready at the time I wanted and it was absolutely delicious! The sauce was rich and delicious and there was loads of cheesy goodness on top. All I had to do was pair it with salad greens and it was a hit. The young staff at the store showed excellent customer service, with one young lady carrying the tray out to my car. The food here is way too good for a little carry out place. For real, it's nearly as good as the meals cooked by my grandmother, who was born on a wagon a dozen miles south of Palermo. Did take out for the first time - a Margarito calzone & pepperoni pizza. The calzone was larger than expected. The dough was perfectly cooked, well seasoned and had the flavor of the bread / dough I've had at Italian bakeries. Delicious. The filling was made with the real deal Mozzarella, adequate fresh basil leaves. If there was sauce I didn't detect it & if ordered again, I'd request less Ricotta as that's my preference. The Pepperoni Pizza was deep dish, crunchy crust, sufficient sauce & the dough used tasted as stated above. We had enough left for a second meal and will be back to try other foods! read more

Today we got food from Mimmos for the first time, we really wanted to like it. We have had their baked goods, which are amazing! And their gelato is ok. We got pizza and chicken, the pizza looked great, the crust was a great thickness and texture, even the toppings were good, but the sauce was not good at all, it just straight up tasted like oregano and that was the only flavor that came out unless you picked it apart and avoided the sauce. None of us could eat it. The chicken tenders, I think, were homemade. They had no flavor and were pretty dry, I don't think they seasoned the meat, and they were so crunchy my son couldn't eat them. The fried chicken was edible but salty, and the fries were steak fries, which you know are gonna be mushy by the time you get home. I also don't think they were seasoned. The bread sticks were good, but they forgot our sauce for them(pomedoro and ranch) so I dont know if they make the sauces, but their bbq sauce for the chicken tenders was definitely open pit. The coleslaw was very saucy with a spice I couldn't figure out. I have had their baked good a few times. The baked goods are amazing! If I was leaving a review just based on the baked goods, it would definitely be 5 stars! Whoever is the baker needs to open their own bakery and hire me to work there so I can eat their baked goods every day. It's probably the best croissant I've had in years, and their cookies and bread are so good! I think they should get a new pizza sauce recipe, emphasize the baked offerings, and open earlier to sell those and drop the fried chicken and tenders. I will definitely be back for the baked items, and because it's there, the gelato. But they didn't have chocolate gelato today or regular stratiatella, so I didn't get any. I know they change flavors daily, but they should always have both chocolate and vanilla. read more
