The staff was prompt in responses and provided a full menu I could pre order from (though my order was small enough that it wasn't required). I ended up picking up my cupcakes a few hours early and to my surprise they were ready! The cupcakes themselves were wonderful. Not these huge cupcakes that you see other speciality cupcake bakeries creating. These were classic size with wonderful flavors, some even completely reimagined. When I arrived for pick up I saw they had a new, special flavor- S'mores. I had to grab one of those too and I'm glad I did as it was the best cupcake of the assortment which a nice marshmallow surprise in the middle of the cupcake! Oh man, definitely worth the drive and worth the costs. I'd highly recommend checking this place out if you're in the area. Luckily the shop is in a pretty nice area of Salem so you could even make a few hours of it and check out some of the other shops in the area.

Unfortunately, the cupcakes were so good that there were no leftovers and I didn't get to try any :( Everyone was shocked at how good the cupcakes were and loved them!

We were heading to visit family in the area for dinner and were asked to bring dessert. While…read moredriving through Stayton, my wife remembered The Lovin Oven from years ago. We also recalled that there was some connection to Gerry Frank's Konditorei in Salem, which immediately caught our interest. After doing a little research, we discovered there's a deep and fascinating history linking the two businesses. The Lovin Oven began in 1983, when founder Doreen Helmemn operated the bakery out of her home. In 1993, the business expanded into a small storefront in downtown Stayton after being purchased by Mike and Valerie Schultz. Mike, who was formerly a logger, was personally taught cake decorating by the original founder, an origin story that adds to the bakery's charm and authenticity. One of the most interesting details we learned is that The Lovin Oven is the primary baker for Gerry Frank's Konditorei in Salem, a partnership that dates back to the 1980s. That relationship grew even stronger in 2017, when the Schultzes became co-owners of the Konditorei. Many people enjoying desserts at high-end restaurants throughout the region may not realize that their cakes were baked in Stayton. The Lovin Oven is especially well known for its Champagne Raspberry cake, Marionberry cheesecake, and an impressive variety of gourmet bars and cookies. Their menu also includes cakes, cheesecakes, cinnamon rolls, brownies, cupcakes, and more, something for just about every dessert preference. The bakery itself is housed in an industrial-style building that includes the production bakery, a storefront, and a small seating area where you can enjoy your treats on site. The outside is a unique with a black painted brick exterior. The customer facing area of the inside is industrial. We picked up a selection of cupcakes to take to dinner and were quickly back on the road. The cupcakes were a hit, everyone loved them, and they disappeared fast. It felt great to share something local with such a rich backstory. Overall, this was a fantastic experience, and we're glad we stopped. If you find yourself passing through Stayton or looking for high-quality desserts in the Willamette Valley, The Lovin Oven is absolutely worth checking out.

I had passed by Sarah's booth several times in the past, just never actually stopping for a cupcake. With my sweet tooth in maximum overdrive on a sunny mid-June day, I figured that was as good a time as any to check it out. Sarah Lilly has been baking all her life, but only started selling cupcakes earlier this year. Looking at her business Facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/SugarLillyGourmetCupcakes), she has several cupcake choices, rotating several flavors in and out from week to week. Sarah will have about 10 choices overall each week, with 7-8 regular cupcake flavors and about 2-3 gluten-free options. All cupcakes are $3. The gluten-free cupcakes intrigued me, and I grew even more interested when Sarah mentioned she uses black beans instead of a gluten-free flour mix. I went with a gluten-free mocha cupcake this time. It's a chocolate cupcake topped with coffee buttercream frosting, coffee sprinkles, and a chocolate-covered espresso bean. What a delicious cupcake! The cocoa powder masks the black beans, to the point where it really tastes like your everyday chocolate cupcake. Even better, the texture of the actual cupcake remains unchanged. Every component is amazingly light, including the coffee buttercream. I love the simple garnishing of coffee sprinkles and single chocolate-covered espresso bean. Regarding the "regular" cupcakes, there are several delectable options, including S'mores, Guinness chocolate, Snickers, Mexican Hot Chocolate, and Apple Spice cupcake choices. Panda gasp! Again, selections vary from week to week, and Sarah posts the Saturday Market menu on her business Facebook page several days in advance. I've only had one of her many cupcakes, but I definitely want more! I could see myself going on a cupcake bender and eating a dozen of these in one sitting. Check the Sugar Lilly booth out!
