Had a great experience here. Came in for coffee and to work for a bit. Really comfortable chair, power outlet nearby and the wifi speed was good. The atmosphere here is really fun and it'd be great to come back in the evening. I love the random books and games around on tables. I ended up staying all afternoon, having lunch and then 2 ciders... really settled in for the day ;) An employee there, Collin, was extremely friendly and fun to talk to, and helpful to share info about things nearby in Independence as I was just visiting for the day. Would recommend for coffee, working remote, lunch or drinks with friends. Great place to call your own and become a regular. read more

Got a sampler beer flight and the beer was good. My mother asked for an espresso martini and the bartender said that she already cleaned the coffee/espresso machine. There was 20 minutes left before they closed. That is not ok. Sorry you clean after you close. My mother ordered a Jameson and water and it was served in a tall pint glass. Drink was very diluted. As we waited for our drinks 2 other patrons came inside from the patio and wanted to order more drinks. The bartender said that is fine but I close in 20 minutes. She talked them out of ordering and they said no thanks and walked out. Why would you say that and not want the sales. We are from out of town and we were not impressed with the bartender and her attitude. read more

Just discovered this cute little spot and I really enjoy it. The atmosphere is very relaxed and the prices are amazingly cheap. They have great snack food, lunch and breakfast options, beer, wine, coffee and more. They have a big t.v if you want to watch the game. They also have outside seating for the summers. This place has a nice ambiance and fabulous coffee. My son and I have been in a couple of times - he gets a muffin, I get a hot drink - and we both enjoy being there. There are funky decorations up to look at and I like that it's a historic building. Service has always been friendly too. It's not a huge place but the location is good, right by a city park, making it a nice way to spend a morning. read more

We have been here a few times! The one person behind the counter is always friendly but seems like they are always behind in filling orders and stressed. This was the first time we've ordered food......and the last time! It was $60 after tip for some mediocre tater tots( that came after the meal) a "Caesar salad" that was $15 for iceberg lettuce, tomatoes, and about 4 ozs of non seasoned chicken! We had a great experience here last night with old friends that moved to Independence. The food was excellent and the guy at the counter when we ordered set us in the right direction when we ordered. I ordered the Mac & Cheese with brats in it and was completely impressed. We also had a chicken salad that was large and very fresh. The guy at the counter let us know we only had 3 minutes to order before the kitchen they use next door closed and the girl that made my Mac & Cheese came over real quickly to get the stought beer she added to the dish. The outdoor glass fireplace was great to sit around and enjoy our meal and one of the locals stopped by to chat with us. This is a cool laidback eatery that was a pleasure to experience. If I lived here, I would become a regular for sure. They even offer painting events. read more

Ordered a chai with an espresso shot and a latte and they weren't impressive. They weren't hot enough. The chai was very sweet despite the espresso shot--I suppose that is great if that's what you want. The service was ok, we were told to wait because the barista had to put some milk away. Honestly, mediocre. Not so terrible where I wouldn't ever go back, just not good enough that I want to go back. I'm guessing it's really a beer place that added coffee in the mornings to make some more $$. read more

John is the man. This is my first ever visit. My friend brought me to this place to enjoy some coffee and it was an excellent idea. I noticed that they sell eclipse T-shirts so I purchased one. My beverage was simply a doppio espresso but it was amazing. I added to that a tasty chocolate biscotti, then we went to sit outside. John was very polite when taking my order and he made this a very pleasant experience. The place is kept very clean and organized, the interior ambience is pleasant. A lovely location and great view though. But kindness or customer experience were not present. Consider skipping this one and trying Jubilee or ovenbird bakery. Better product and customer service experience for us. Gave this place a second try and proved to be a disheartening customer service experience all around. Please do not expect to be treated with any haste or courtesy here. It's okay to treat out of town visitors better than what we experienced. Kindness, care, customer service were not present. Had a great experience with the two other other bakeries down the street- way better product and kind humans. Jubilee had a great assortment of baked goods that proved to be a better all around product. read more

Local and Family Owned with two locations just a few miles away from each other. Inside and outside seating. Smaller than it's West Salem account but offering an extensive menu full of tasty treats. This place is SO cute. We went a little before closing and it was nice because it wasn't busy. Shelby was our barista/bartender, she is absolutely fabulous, so knowledgeable, great phone photographer, and incredibly relatable. One year on our way back to Portland, Oregon... my Darling Husband purchased a Birthday Muffin for me here at Brew Coffee & Tap House - Independence. I shared it with my Husband. It was a substitute for Birthday Cake. Another year we stopped in for an Italian Soda for me. Another year we shared a bottle of Kombucha here. There is a nice huge park to walk around in just outside the front door. Also, we were told that we could take our food and beverages onto the back patio if we wanted. We stayed inside. There is an interior design marvel known as a penny counter where you purchase your food and beverages... it has real pennies in it. We like to sit in the seats that are in the window that faces the main street in Independence, Oregon. We will be back. read more

Small spot in a small town. Feels like the swankiest place downtown though. Decor just nails the feel of small town Americana though. A+ for that. Prices are a tad high for what they are selling though. Beers are averaging about 5-6 bucks for a pint. The time to go here is in warm, sunny weather. The outdoor seating is very well laid out and gives you a decent view of the river and main Memorial Park in town. Not sure how this view will change though, as it appears to be having massive construction between this spot and a new downtown addition next to it. Definitely will be back. read more

Only reason I'm giving 2 stars is because our server was nice. We had a coupon that we won at cinco de micro for a free appetizer here with no expiration date. They also had a sign for $1 pints during happy hour. We walk in and the place looks great. We weren't sure what to order yet and figured we'd just wait until 2 and enjoy a $1 pint while we wait with our free appetizer. When we went to the counter we were told that the coupon we won 2 and a half months ago is expired "even though there's no expiration date" from our server and figured, whatever, let's get our dollar beers. I asked which pints were $1 and she said all of them on the tap list. We decided against food since nothing was really screaming at us and went to close out. "That will be $10" she said. What? Your sign outside says $1 pints. "Oh that's $1 off pints". Well here's a picture of their sign stating $1 pints not "$1 off pints". I won't be back due to not honoring the coupons you had to win and not honoring what their sign right out front says. Pretty poor business practices as we drive from Salem to check this place out. My husband and I were meeting a friend for lunch and a movie. Our friend lives 2 hours from us, so we met in between. Hubby found a movie theater in Independence, OR. Nice, little town. There was a farmer's market. Not too many stores or restaurants. Very serene. We were walking around and an aroma of food got my attention when we opened the door to this place. They served sandwiches, pasta and pizza. Our server said that the food comes from the bakery (freshly baked breads for the sandwiches and Stromboli) and the pasta comes from "Naughty Noodles" which is three stores down next to the bakery. I had the Roast Beef Stromboli and it was very good! Great service and our server was nice and friendly. read more

Pros: fabulous service, very cool decor, great feel and nice patio! The people were kind and helpful. Cons: $14 is just way too much to charge for a small sandwich and side salad. It was good, but sandwiches should be priced between $6-8. Next door at the bakery they are only $6, and both places use the same bread. It's a great spot with a lot of potential, but prices should be more reasonable. read more

This was one of the worst dining experiences I have ever had. I went with my husband 6pm Saturday early August 2019. First off, every person that came in got confused with their order inside polIcy. You have to pay and tip up front and even after getting several items refunded later for the terrible service they kept our large original tip. A large group came in just after us. Brew has a lot of games to play but it seems like that is just to distract from the slowest service imaginable, and the inflated prices. When we ordered they took our names but every time they brought out food they would just repeat the name of the menu item ordered to everyone in the patio until someone claimed it. We sat there playing round after round of dominos on splinter-filled picnic tables, watching one person after the other in the large group getting their food. I finally dared to look at my phone and it was 7:30! We wanted to leave but having already paid and had fun playing games we decided to check on it. A few minutes later they came out and started checking on tables to see if people got their food. I said we hadn't and they couldn't even find our order so we essentially had to reorder after having already waited an hour and a half. I wish we threw in the towel then but the staff seemed nice even with the deer in the headlights look. When our entrees finally came out our rabid hungers were to be disappointed. My husband's $14 beef stromboli was flaccid, stale, and had a green tone to it. My $14 chicken caesar salad included a good quality chicken breast but the lettuce was doused in oil. I asked for caesar dressing and the waitress said she would have to text the manager to bring over the caesar. So I got ranch instead and it took nearly 10 minutes for her to return with that. Meanwhile, the hornets munched on my greasy salad instead. When they brought out our entrees they apologized saying their microwave broke and they offered a free dessert, forgetting of course that we had already ordered and paid for a dessert that never arrived. In the end, we got the stromboli refunded, as well as the two items they forgot entirely. Still had to pay for the drinks, grease salad, the full tip for the original order, and for the jalapeno corn poppers that were actually pretty good. We will never return and since I unfortunately live near by I have to drive past it often and seeing the front door triggers my feelings of dining there. I felt invisible and a bit robbed. It was horrible. I can't believe I paid to be so dissatisfied. Get it together, Brew! Get more organized and spend more time training your staff if you ever want repeat business. read more

I went here for St. Patrick's Day wth my partner. Really cool place and great ambiance. However, the food was nothing special. Very overpriced and underwhelming. We ordered Mac n cheese, fries, a sandwich, and a couple ciders. Fries were undercooked and inedible. Service was disappointing. Hoping things have gotten better since our visit as I know they are a new business. read more

Well, we've tried three times over the last year to get coffee here...and they continue to fail miserably. Please stop advertising that you serve espresso unless you're willing to properly train your employees on how to make a basic mocha. We've ended up throwing our drinks away after a few sips every time. We're done giving them chances and won't be going back. I'm sure the beer and atmosphere is great later in the day, just don't plan on getting your morning espresso here. read more
