Winnie the Pooh and Excalibur are must-do escape rooms at this MindTrap. My group and I had so much fun with both of these non-linear, themed rooms. Our game master, Megan, was sweet and professional, and the venue was clean and spacious. Winnie the Pooh: 5/5. Super cute set with impressive decor and props. It was also nice to experience some nostalgia since I watched the show during the 90s. Difficulty was between easy and medium, and it implemented a mix of tech and locks. A few parts will make people smile, whether or not they're familiar with the story/characters. Excalibur: 5/5. This medieval set housed a good balance of puzzles. I feel like this room was slightly easier than Winnie the Pooh, but maybe it's because we've seen similar types of puzzles in other escape rooms. We were informed that Excalibur was going to be a little dim most of the time, but I believe it helped to enhance the cool effects. No issues with finding the spot in this quiet Murrieta plaza with free parking. I highly recommend MindTrap to escape room enthusiasts of all levels. I will start off by saying, if you are in the fence to try Escape Rooms, just do it!!! My wife and I started coming here in 2024 and come back once every 4-6 months to try a new room. I have never had a bad experience at this location or the Temecula location. All rooms are challenging and the difficulty rating does match the experience. If I could change a few things it would be when you reserve a game online, that it routes you to the waiver right away. Show up a few minutes early to sign the waiver if you didn't online. The second thing would be to have the option for people to allow others to join their group. Some games can be easier with 3-4 players versus our typical 2 but still very doable (we have done 8 escape rooms and have beat them all). read more

First time ever doing an escape room and this was definitely the best place to start. Booking was simple through their website as was signing the waiver. My friend chose an easy room to start as there were a few of us that have not done this before. We did the "plan a birthday party for Winnie the Pooh" rated a 7/10 on the difficulty scale. The employees were informative, patient while we asked many questions, were super helpful and friendly. We were able to get a handful of clues going through the 3 rooms and still made it out with 13 minutes and 13 seconds on Friday the 13th which we all thought was super cool. My partner and I visited my parents this weekend to take care of some important business, and I wanted to do something besides wine tasting since we usually do that (and we still did do that this time as well). I suggested an escape room and my parents seemed "okay" with trying something new. I did a quick yelp search for the options in the Temecula/Murrieta area. At first I was going to look for the cheapest room available since this experience for four was going to be a spontaneous gift, but then I started thinking that I should instead look to see which business had the best reviews so that my parents wouldn't be hesitant to try a better one in the future. I came across MindTrap and noticed they had two locations and both had great reviews. I looked through the options to find something that didn't seem too childish, too scary, too difficult, or too hard, and we mutually agreed on the Excalibur room at the Murrieta location. It was ~$40 per person, which is standard for an escape room in my experience, and I liked that the rooms are all private. This experience is for 2-8 people, but they recommend 4-6. So I'm doing this at 6pm on Saturday and I see that there are two openings available that night, one at 8:25 and one around 9:30. We all decided to be super spontaneous this day and went for the 8:25 option. This is just to say that I thought the booking was easy and I appreciated that they still had enough openings to meet our needs, despite many of the other times and rooms being booked around this time. They're busy, but not TOO busy. So then we sign the waivers from home, which was also convenient and easy, and of course my parents are like "what? DEATH?" So I have to explain to them that every escape room I've been to has a waiver to sign and that they will *probably* be okay. We arrive at MindTrap Murrieta early, and from the parking lot, and even in the front room, the business is unassuming. Charli is being hilarious with the quips while explaining what we need to keep in mind before starting, and made the wait before the game more tolerable lol. After the instructional video but before your hour starts, they give you the option to leave personal items (including cell phones) in a locker for the duration of the game. I find this very useful because you'll want as much space as possible to run around in these rooms, plus the lockers have a key lock on them and you take the key with you (it's on a bracelet). My dad is kinda germaphobic and I'm sure he was probably not super thrilled at the idea of touching a bunch of things that an innumerable amount of other people have touched, but he was putting on a brave face because the rest of us seemed excited. I was excited to try an escape room with my parents for the first time, but I had no idea how it would go or if they would like it. I am pleased to report that my parents had an amazing experience, and even I was shocked at how good this escape room was. I am not an expert escaper by any means--I've probably been to six other escape rooms--but this was the coolest escape I've done yet. The production was top tier, and all the puzzles were fun to figure out, both the easier and harder ones. The difficulty level is well-gauged; this was definitely an intermediate challenge. We ended up escaping with 6 minutes left, and I was happy to see that we were able to solve at least a few puzzles each. Jillian did a great job with the voice acting and hints, and while in an escape with more experienced players I might have been upset with being given hints without asking for them, I realized that we probably wouldn't have escaped or had as much fun together without the occasional "psst psst." My dad really warmed up to the game quickly, and before long he was touching everything in sight to try to unlock the next clue. He definitely used the hand sanitizer at the front afterwards, though. But he was super excited that he was chosen as most worthy to pull the sword out of the stone at the end. We got a super cute picture that they sent over to us later on. Thank you so much to Jillian and Charli for making my parents' first escape room experience such a fun and memorable one! We will 1000% be back to MindTrap to try a new escape room in the future. read more

I have been to more than a few escape rooms and after what I experienced here, the room Nightwalker is now in my top 3. I have never experienced such an immersive escape room like this with great puzzles that were not all math based. We escaped with two minutes left. Our game host Caitlin was fantastic and her accent was crazy. We didn't know it was her over the speaker. I hope they expand to Los Angeles so I can go to more rooms. read more

Our group did THE ARENA and I immediately came to Yelp to see what I was getting myself into. Unfortunately, there were no reviews that warned us... for better or worse. I do think it's necessary to clarify some things, so at the end of the review I will explain. Please do NOT read it if you want to go in totally surprised! First of all, this was the most unique escape room I've ever done. THE ARENA is described as a "sadistic gameshow" which will subject you to torture while you try to escape. Our group is a bunch of horror movie enthusiasts so this was right up our alley. The whole thing kind of felt like a Saw trap, solving puzzles with a faceless game master giving us tips between insults. There was only one thing I did NOT like, which I'll explain a little at the end, but in all honesty it DID contribute to the overall experience so I cannot bring myself to take off a star. Overall, it had everything we wanted out of an escape room: a unique and creative theme, puzzles that were challenging but not impossible, and enough suspense to keep it interesting. They have a number of rooms to choose from, all with varying levels of difficulty and themes. For example, there's a Winnie the Pooh themed room that I can only imagine is MUCH more family friendly than the one we did. Some suggestions to make it even better: We didn't realize we were being timed until our host informed us we made it out with two minutes to spare. Adding the time as an element would have made it that much more suspenseful and the stakes that much higher. We also were given a TON of hints along the way, by our "Sky Daddy" aka host who would lead us in the right direction amid a bunch of swear-laden insults. I think we were guided a bit TOO much though, as she practically gave us the answers sometimes. They mention in the beginning we have unlimited questions we can ask (other escape rooms I've been in limit you to 3) Perhaps there could be different levels of difficulty offered if you want to really figure it out yourself, or the host could be limited to giving clues only when prompted. As for storytelling, it's supposed to be a game show, but it's not clear WHAT we're competing for. Maybe add into the storyline that we THOUGHT we were competing for money, but in actuality we're fighting for our lives? Suggestions aside--We will ABSOLUTELY be back to try the Zombie War Room (I am forgetting the actual name, heh) as it is the other horror themed room in the building and after surviving THE ARENA we feel that we can conquer anything! Also bonus: we were told the zombie story doesn't actually cause you pain, but that there are jump scares involved. Which leads me to... SPOILERS.... DO NOT READ IF YOU WANT TO BE ENTIRELY, TOTALLY, 100% SURPRISED BY THE ARENA... Okay so, in the multiple waivers you need to sign, they mention you'll be wearing electric shock collars, be exposed to surface irritants, and be emotionally abused as well as physically touched/moved. Asking for ANY clarification on these leads to vague answers from staff, so we really truly had no idea if the build up was part of the experience, or if you truly were signing up to be hurt. I think our entire group suffers from anxiety and it would have been nice to know how intense this is. Yes, they do tell you in the paperwork, but the staff being vague makes it feel like it's not going to actually happen. So, if you need to know exactly what those electric shocks are due to a heart condition or whatnot (seriously don't even sign up for this if you have that, don't risk it!) I will say that they use actual dog training shock collars set to low. So yes, you are literally getting a small electric shock. How much it actually hurts depends on your pain tolerance. In our group one person couldn't feel it at all, but personally it was a painful shock and various games utilize this was a "punishment." There are other elements of the game that hurt you in a similar way, so be aware. It's not just build up to make it feel scary, if you have a low threshold for pain you do not want to do this room! read more

Our party of 4 had a great time experiencing the Arena escape room! It was my first escape room and they were surprised we chose Arena. They have a sign in their lobby that states how many people have backed out of Arena. The beginning, before you even start the escape room, feels like the scariest part since they make you sign consent forms and offer you numerous opportunities to back out, but when you start the game, it's actually very interactive and a really fun experience! My friends who had done plenty of escape rooms prior to this one said this was unlike anything else they've done and had a great time. While Arena is one of the longer games at 90 minutes, MindTrap has others than are shorter and thus less pricy. On top of an elaborate and well-made game, the employees were great as well. Everyone had great attitudes, really got into their roles, and was overall very accommodating and friendly (Arena environment-aside)! Honestly, this room has moved into one of the best rooms I've done. I had so much fun and the production on this place. Wooooahh! Lost of unexpected puzzles. We were surprised with the way they do their puzzles. You'll see what I mean. It's hard to talk about a room without giving things away. Must do escape room. We also did Excalibur. Another great room. They didn't hold back with anything. We were stumped in a certain place, but that's our fault . Haha. Maybe when they open up again we can try out their gold rush room. This place is amazing and I'm glad they were open on Christmas Day. This is my 8th escape room but first one in So Cal. My cousins (party of 10) did the Excalibur themed room. It's meant for 2-8 players but I'm thankful they were able to accommodate an additional 2 more players. We finished in about 40 mins with 2 clues being given. I think the hints they gave us though made it easier for us to solve it, felt like they could've given more challenging ones. But still fun overall! The production is great! There are multiple rooms. I love how the puzzles aren't sequential so you can solve multiple puzzles at once which is great if you have a larger party. No one feels left out. I'm from the Bay Area where the prices for escape room easily cost $100 per person so at $42 per person this was a steal! Can't wait to try more of their escape rooms when I'm back in the area. read more

The Murrieta location of MindTrap definitely has some of the best escape rooms I've done to date. I'm at 50-ish rooms now and this place definitely holds some of the most incredible sets, creative puzzles, and immersive experiences for an escape room. If you're an enthusiast for escape rooms or are just lucky enough to live in the neighborhood, I highly recommend you check this place out! Would highly recommend this place to any escape room veteran or lucky first-timer. MindTrap definitely hires some of the friendliest and best staff in the escape room business. At both times I've visited, the staff were super attentive to us before, during, and after the games and were excellent GM's. They were also all super knowledge about escape rooms in the area and their business. Oz Room: If you grew up watching Oz as a child, this room will be an amazing nostalgic trip. The rooms at MindTrap are huge for an escape room! The amount of space they use definitely lends itself to be able to tell a full drawn-out story as you navigate from room to room. The room designers also definitely went over-the-top with the amount of cool effects, amazing props designs, and storyline for the room. We really felt like we're literally in the storybook adventure. I've done so many rooms now but Oz with it's combination of a unique, yet very familiar theme and its amazing attention to an awesome set design make this one of the best escape room experiences I've done! Excalibur Room: Excalibur was also an amazing room that shared a lot of the same amazing qualities as Oz. I wouldn't rank this room as high as Oz simply because the theming didn't connect to me as well, but I'd say it's still also one of the best escape rooms I've done. The space is also quite large for Excalibur and all the props and sets and puzzles highly draw you into the immersion of the story. This is definitely also a must-do room for escape room venturers. Another cool perk about this escape room location is the lounge area with games set aside. Didn't get to try it out but it looks like it would help with killing time before/after doing their escape rooms. After having experienced the awesomeness of two of their existing rooms, I can't help but look forward to their horror-themed escape room that they have planned and making a visit when it opens. read more

Myself, my hubby Ron and our 2 grandsons Tyson and Sid went to the Escape room in Murrieta CA today 10-16-21 and did the Excalibur room. we had a blast there. We were 'virgins" as far as escape room people. The place was very clean and employees were very nice from the moment you walked in & that was really cool, because its rare now a days, and you got a good vibe walking in the door. We did the Excalibur room and believe me, I did not think we would even get out of the room to go home lol. One thing I was asking for were clues and you could ask as many times as you like for a clue. My grandsons said that they went to a escape room in Lake Elsinore & only got to ask 3 clues and that's it. I guess the gal talking with us over the speaker is a game master & we had Victoria. She was so awesome. Nice voice over the speakers and the clues she gave us were still hard to think through but we were all communicating & ended up getting out of the 4 rooms in Excalibur in 55 minutes. I was so shocked we did it. The experience was at first overwhelming but as you got the clues and all were looking for clues separately and then working together, it worked for us. We had to ask to turn down the music but Victoria couldn't hear it and would talk louder which we appreciated. It's weird to think some one is watching our every move we made but after10-15 minutes, you forgot. One thing is I'm glad I did was ask for a light torch and have each one in your party ask for one. I only asked if they could turn up the lights and that's when someone came in and gave me a battery operated torch. Next time all of us will ask for one since we kept passing the torch a lot during the hour's time. It helped us all a lot. It was dark in the rooms and hard to search under tables, walls etc. and since back in the day, no electricity, the torch was it. Great clues in the rooms which pop out at you after solving the clue and all the items we found were really cool looking . The interior design in the Excalibur was well put together and after we made it through (yay, 1st timers for us), we were brought in to take a group photo with some of the items we found and a gal took it, and it was free!!! Yes, F-R-E-E!! Nothing is free anymore lol. Posted it below. We all left saying we had a great time. Laughed a lot , used our brains more than usual and tried not to bicker (me & the hubby). Grandboys 17 & 15 were great with a clear mind and no foggy brains like their grandparents (us), both over 60 years old. I wanted to sit a lot since having major back surgery & 8 weeks in post op, so maybe something to sit on in each rooms or a stool would be great. Traffic sucked going there & going home to Corona, but that's just the 15 freeway all day, 24/7, going north or south. All in all, I recommend this escape room in Murrieta big time and just go there to have fun and be together and remember, It's only a game!!! Suggestion: I think for the price one person pays for a escape room & for either a 1/2 hour or 1 hour, you should stamp a card to where you buy 9 and the 10th one is free. Gives you more of a reason to go play in other escape rooms to get a free one. Just a thought. read more
