I grew up in the area and am back for a week for a wedding. After spending the day with an old friend, I convinced him to go out. This was the closest spot to him that was reportedly open until 1. I thought it looked good so we ubered here around 11:30. Upon walking in, the bar was empty except for two other groups of 2 and 4. They were nearing middle age and it seemed like that was the target demographic of this establishment based on the decor. My friend and I sat by the door and ordered a round from the bartender, whose name was Beata according to my receipt. One of the other patrons, visibly drunk, started yelling because he was accused of not paying his tab. It was a quiet, empty bar, and I could hear it all. About 5 minutes after I had ordered my drink, Beata comes and lets me and my friend know that they would be closing in less than an hour (which was a good bit earlier than the alleged 1:00 closing time). So I asked for another drink and she let me know that I can only have one at a time. I then finished my cosmo relatively quickly and then ordered a margarita. What happened next truly has never happened to me before. When I ordered my margarita and she saw my empty glass, she asked me, "Are you trying to get drunk quickly? You're drinking too fast." As a bartender and bar manager myself, I would never stand for a bartender to be so blatantly rude to a patron. Especially in a bar as empty as it was, you want to build relationships, not burn bridges and ensure they're not only never coming back but also takes to Yelp afterwards. It's funny that she was worried about the sober person getting too drunk when she just had a disheveled patron yelling and being hostile. I'm sure he didn't show up that drunk. It truly puzzled me, and we made sure to leave as soon as possible after that. My friend and I both tend bars and agreed we would never ask questions like that so directly and rudely. I wonder if she asks those same questions to anyone ordering a round of shots. The bar was also extremely bright and the decor was strange. The playing of country music also didn't fit the vibe of the bar. Below average cosmo with wrong garnish, adequate margarita served in the wrong glass. If the owner of this establishment is reading this, please train your employees on customer service and proper drink preparation. At least one of them wouldn't know tact if she had the dictionary page open in front of her. read more

Me and two other friends went here to celebrate a 21st birthday. It's quaint, the music too loud at times and they play local sports on the TV. Food is decent, and there is a good selection of drinks. However, the bartended working that night clearly favored regular patrons over newcomers, repeatedly ignored us when we tried to wave her over, accused my friend who was being harassed that she was drunk and had to leave (rather than the man who was harassing her and our party). Very sexist and misogynistic, clearly only working for her money with her regulars. Made to feel unsafe, and refused to accept liability if things kept escalating. Overall, would not go back unless I suddenly become a sad middle aged man picking fights with girls old enough to be my daughters. read more

Cute place in downtown Des Plaines, friendly staff and it had a nice crowd when I came in for a friends fundraiser. They do serve food and they weren't kidding regarding their pizza, it's delicious, fresh ingredients, and tasty. The drinks was good, they have darts, and a shuffle board. read more

The things I LOVE about Miner Street: 1) Open until 4 am - big plus in Des Plaines 2) Completely remodeled inside and out. Feels warm and modern on the inside. The big picture windows in the front will be great for summertime. 3) The people. All of my favorite hometown bar hoppers have seemed to discover Miner Street and I can't go in there without seeing someone I want to hug. The things that I DON'T love about Miner Street: 1) No kitchen. Mama drinks beer, mama gets hungry. 2) It's VERY narrow near the bar. It's tough not to feel claustrophobic on a Saturday night. Went here yesterday with my hubby for the first time after moving to the neighborhood!! Loved it!! Its got a nice, warm and friendly vibe to the place and looked like everyone had the happy pill over there! Well doesnt take much to guess what the happy pill might have been. I've driven past a 100 times, walked past too... never really thought much about it. But there's Karaoke on Wednesday nights, so I met up with some friends and we hung out. Reading a couple of the reviews on here, I was a little leary, but my friends had been there and didn't have negatives to share, so I ventured out. Karaoke, not a lot of people show up for it, but it's worth it. The hosts do a decent job and the rotation is quick. Bar, not bad at all! Clean with a homey feel. The bartenders are good and the other patrons, a mix of ages, are friendly. Yes, its a narrow, local, city type bar... I like neighborhood, city bars, so I'm in! Electronic darts, shuffleboard table, a few TVs to watch a game. Honestly, no complaints. We will be back, I kind of wrote this place off just because I figured it was really divey, but it has a decent decor and a good vibe. read more

Not a big drinker or much into bars but if I'm going out I'm going here! Got here around 9pm with 2 friends. Got a beer in about no time. While talking a guy came up to us and started hitting on the girl we were with....this is to be expected but the guy got very upset when she was not interested. From out of no where a large bouncer came and asked if everything was ok and when we told him no he walked the guy back to his table. I don't know what he told him but he didn't bother us again. A+ on that one. Then after a few drinks the male behind the bar with the long hair bought our next round.....awsome. Played shuffle board and left. Bartender seemed inebriated, caters to regulars. Doesn't have local sports teams on TV for game nights. Don't waste your time and money.

This is totally my favorite townie bar! It's open until 4AM! Miner has tons of fun events every night but one of my favorites is Beer by the INCH! They have it once a month on the first Wednesday of the month. You can bring it pots, pans, coffee pitchers, whatever you like. It's so much fun! They charge you 50 cents for one inch so the wider/flatter your pan is the more beer you drink for literally nothing. It's a blast! The other thing I like her is when I go here with my sister they actually play the music you request... my sister likes to dance :) The bartenders are a lot of fun too! read more

This bar is extremely small and the music is shit. I bothered to buy some credit on the music machine and guess what? They weren't even using the music machine so I wasted my money. Instead of connecting the machine, they use their own laptop, shitty music system that stops for ads and constantly stops due to their crappy internet connection. Wouldn't be surprised if they steal their internet connection from the place next door, since it seems they try to save money as much as possible, even at the customers expense. They clearly do not care about their service and overall ambiance. read more

Horrible bar. This place lost my credit card! They totally screwed me and told me they would have it for me, and when I went to get it two days later, they didn't have it! This is a great little bar. City vibe without the prices. Music and local sports games. Quaint neighborhood location that's arguably the hippest bar in Des Plaines. Smaller than Tap House and much better service. Open late night and always a fun crowd. There is one small bathroom, but it's a small, intimate setting. Good for a date, nightcap or hanging with friends for a Hawks game. Don't think they serve food, but there's plenty of places close by that u can walk to before or after. read more

By accident, I happened upon this place about a month ago. This place is a DUMP! It's so damn narrow that it's like walking down a dirty, dark alley at midnight. Great bar and open until 4am in Downtown Des Plaines. Have always had a good time here. They have awesome bartenders which are all hot. They always have drink specials and excelent service as well. Great thing about this place is they always have special events going on. Every February they have a Suitcase Party were you can win a trip to Las Vegas for a weekend. As a group a few of my coworkers and myself decided to check out this bar, as it's close to work and we all just needed to let loose. It was a bit packed, but overall it was a fun and vibrant environment. We went there on a Friday night around 7:00PM and there was two waitresses handing out free samples of shots...which they were a bit too sweet...but hey a free shot is a free shot. We stayed there for a few hours before calling it quits but we had a fun time. They played a bit of everything...mostly new stuff: Gangnam Style, Katy Perry, etc. I'm not really a fan of that type of music, but it doesn't stop me from having a good time. We all plan to go back and have a blast again. The only reason why I give this 4 stars is because first there's no kitchen and secondly I had a half drinken beer and I go to the bathroom for a second, in which the waitress/barback grab it. read more

The only time I go here is when I wanna party late and the roadhouse is closed.. Lots of young people hanging out there and I've noticed a few that were definitely on the powder. The food is terrible and the layout is not a strong point. Very long and narrow, crowded when it's busy. Parking is nothing to brag about either. I like Miner Street Tavern! It's a small place but a good place. It's basically a long corridor but everything is clean and classy looking. Bathrooms are super small but serve their purpose well as bathrooms. Drinks are pretty cheap plus the daily specials always provide something to offer. Food is pretty limited but there are many nearby places for dining. Lots to do here besides drink though. There's one of those touch screen game monitors at the end of the bar, electronic jukebox, TVs, and the free shuffleboard and darts is extremely sweet! Special events are held here pretty regularly. The wall of photos from previous events is a nice touch. Creates a pleasant little sense of community. Staff is friendly and attentive. $10 minimum for credits cards btw. read more

This is a smallish room with a jukebox. I definitely found it a pleasant place to have a beer on a weeknight. The service was absolutely friendly and attentive. There are a good few beers on tap, although there is not as much variety as I like. The jukebox is also a BIT loud when the room is fairly empty as it was last night. Went to this bar for the first time the other night and I have to say I am impressed. This place was just what I was looking for without the hassle of having to go downtown. The atmosphere is very inviting with the warm lighting and nice decor. I had to wait maybe a minute or two in order to get my drink. We went on a weekday and it seems like the perfect place to get an after work drink with the girls. The bartender made an amazing Cosmo. Miner Street is a great hang out place! The owners are super friendly, and they always welcome you with open arms. It's nice too when you're not in for awhile, and they still remember you. How does this place get anything over 1 star??? I've been to this place twice in the last 2 years, both times a year apart. Reality is the place smells like a urinal, port-a-potty or a badly cleaned men's bathroom. It hits you in the face like a dump truck as soon as you walk into the door. I visited Miner Street Tavern one evening with friends and my experience was as follows; There was an empowered scholar in top physical condition to greet us at the door where he demanded identification as if we were smuggling terrorists in to the U.S. Then one of the owners approached us who had long greasy hair and clearly neglected any bathing rituals that normal humans practice. He basically informed us that it was his establishment and he was one of the greatest, if not THE greatest man ever to walk the earth. After a few overpriced drinks they decided that we had now broken the dress code in some way that they could not explain and asked us to leave. We can only assume this ejection from the bar came from an inappropriate and unsuccessful advance toward one of the females in our group from the tall greasy man.
