food: good bar food nothing special, don't let things get cold or definitely not as good service: staff was nice and accommodating ambiance: outdoor seating was nice, good shade with the umbrellas

    Best fried pickles!

Slightly overdue as I was back a couple weeks ago hangout with coworkers (love these Summer hours)! So nice to sit out on the patio under an umbrella- very relaxed and didn't feel bad about mostly drinking. The service was good - she gave us our space when she realized we were mostly hanging out but was easily accessible for another round. I must say that this place has the greatest fried pickles ever and makes spears, which is the way I grew up eating them. So delicious and it's in a nice crispy tempura batter served with a mildly spiced sauce.

Great menu choices, really good food & a fantastic amount of tvs (especially in the outdoor area).

Pizza is very good with plenty of daily specials covering bar food and drinks. Indoor and outdoor dining and we all had great service for our large group. Plenty of parking. Clean bathrooms. All in all a very pleasant experience.

The service and food are top notch! I've been here a bunch of times but decided to leave my review after this visit. We ordered trash can nachos which are some of the best nachos on the NW side. We ate too many so we decided to split a burger. They brought them out precut for us to enjoy! The food is delicious and the service is impeccable. P.S. Also featured is my bottomless mimosa for $18. Great brunch specials!

    Cheesy Garlic Beef

Their cheesy garlic beef was decent; however, the bread roll lost its firmness after being exposed to beef juice, even though it was toasty. The beef is soft and well-cut, and the portion is generous, but the flavor is lacking. Additionally, I wish more mozzarella had been added. The sandwich could be dipped in the au jus that was served alongside. It doesn't taste or smell strongly of beef. The hot peppers wasn't spicy at all and the tasted dull. My favorite item was their bread pudding for dessert, which had a great, fluffy, warm texture. The surface is nicely crusted, slightly firm, and topped with soft ice cream and drippy caramel. It's a really substantial portion. I'm glad I can enjoy it alone with no company.

Cool little place in Des Plaines a bit south of downtown. It sure doesn't look like much from the outside but it's bigger than it looks inside. Beacon Tap has a lot on tap of course. Lots of local beers to choose from. The food has a range from greasy fried stuff to Mexican options such as tacos. A pretty quiet place during the day. It wasn't busy at all when we went so we got seated at the bar and got some of the specials to drink and eat. There's always some going on. It had Goose Island varieties for $5 a pint. The food menu is pretty meaty, but there's the Taco Plate to get some grains and vegetables. It's about $13 for a choice of 3 tacos along with beans and rice. There's the choice of beef, chicken, or vegetables. Basic looking tacos but filling. They came out of the kitchen pretty slow, and these aren't the freshest, but better than expected for a divey looking place in my opinion. Has drinks, food, and also entertainment. It often has live music. There's also plenty of games including slots and whatever.

Every time I go for kbbq I base it off of the banchan before the meats. The banchan was disappointing as the quality was inconsistent especially with the kimchi. The rice was harder than a rock, and if you think about making a ssam wrap please try to stay away. I'm not sure if they even washed the lettuce prior but it was just nasty. The fish cakes were lacking in flavor and whatever sesame oil they provided does not taste like true sesame oil. I have to wonder if they have tried their own marinade/ preseasoned meats as all of them lacked salt. I'm rather disappointed in this spot as this had been on my go-to list for a while. Update: Do not go here if you want food poisoning!!! Do not eat the lettuce!

What I didn't love is that most of the chairs are those godforsaken metal chairs that anyone over 30 years old most likely has beef with (or is it just me?). also adding, this may have just been the time we went but oh god there were so many kids running around in there. When I first walked in I thought it was a very small restaurant, but it's actually way bigger than it looks and they walked us thru a few different rooms before getting to our table in the back private room. We had the room to ourselves for the first 30 min of our meal, which was lovely. The service was beyond incredible. Fernando was our server who went above and beyond the entire meal. And Jason (i believe the manager) stopped by to chat and shared fun tidbits about the concert...as well as gave us detailed directions of how to find the venue within the casino. The food did not disappoint either. We started off with some oysters and the chilled vinegar sauce served with it was amazing. I got shrimp cocktail as my main meal, which may have been the best shrimp cocktail I've had in awhile. I often eat shrimp cocktail from Costco at home as a good protein snack, but it's going to be tough to eat their shrimp after a taste of Hugo's. My husband was very happy with his steak, but was nice enough to share some bites with me and I can see why he was thrilled. Seasoned and cooked to perfection. They said dessert was on the house in honor of my husband's bday. He's a huge carrot cake fan and they brought out a slice of carrot cake that could feed 15 people. We had a bit and they even stored the leftovers for us until after the concert so we could take it home to our cake loving children. Turns out, Short Fuse was right up the road and a 5 minute walk got us there. For a Sunday, it wasn't too busy but not dead, so we got seated right away. We ordered some beer and took a look at the menu. While nothing really struck our fancy, our waitress made a comment that if we did want any food, it might be slim pickings as they were running out of stuff. Turns out, this day was the last day they were open. Talk about timing! After she mentioned that, I started to notice that people were buying bar signs and various other things. Emily started off with a Guava Gose and I grabbed a Krankshaft kolsch. We sampled each other beers and we both really liked what the other ordered. I don't really know what a gose is but, damn, was that good! I've had Krankshaft before so I knew what I was getting myself in to. We ended up ordering a second round of the same beers and let each other sample the other's beer a little more liberally this time. While we were kind of hungry, nothing on the menu really struck our fancy, especially considering they might've been out of it. Room service took care of those hunger pangs later after a few more beers in the hotel bar. If you're a beer drinker, they have a massive selection on tap (about 90 taps--and no, that's not a typo!). They also have a large patio that looks like a great spot when the weather is nice. Inside, there's a good mix of low-tops, high-tops, banquettes, and booths. All the tabletops feature copper tops with wood trim, and exposure to water and food over time has given each table a unique patina. We arrived right as they were switching over from the brunch menu to dinner, and the staff made us feel very welcome. What We Ordered: Smoked Brisket Reuben Eggrolls: We ordered these special eggrolls for the table. My friend has a shellfish allergy, and since many traditional eggrolls contain shrimp, he was excited to try these. He said they were the best eggrolls he's ever had (though he admitted he doesn't eat them often!). He paired it with a Guinness Zero non-alcoholic draught and was amazed by how close it tasted to the original. Fish Tacos ($19): Recommended by another reviewer, these come with three cornmeal-battered, fried Mahi-Mahi tacos topped with cilantro lime cream and fresh micro cilantro. They were crispy and very tasty. If you're usually sensitive to cilantro, you might still enjoy these--I mostly tasted a bright, lemony freshness rather than heavy cilantro. Sides (Broccoli Rabe & Asparagus): I substituted chips for a vegetable side. Due to a mix-up in the kitchen, I got to try the broccoli rabe first, though it turned out way too spicy for anyone at our table. My actual order was asparagus--my absolute favorite--but it was a bit disappointing, as the bottom half of each stalk was woody and fibrous. Fish & Chips ($21.50): My friend went with this traditional entry. At that price point, he was expecting three fillets, but he couldn't finish the two that were served and took some home. Overall, a solid entrée. Classic Breakfast ($15.50): My husband got this from the brunch menu. He was very pleased with the scrambled eggs, potatoes, thick-sliced bacon, and sausage links. Overall, a solid visit with great variety on the menu!
