Ming Wo Cookware tends to be the sort of cookware store I'm not really a fan of, they carry a ton of different items and it's all sprinkled around the store and difficult to search through. I was very surprised they had five people working, as on a weekday they had almost no customers and it was a bit overwhelming the amount of stock they had. It didn't feel organized and streamlined like the Williams Sonoma stores are. I will say they were incredibly genuine and friendly so if this sort of kitchenwares store is your thing, I think you should definitely drop in. read more

A lovely little store filled with mostly cooking supplies and a few bathroom supplies at the back of the store. This is where I go if I need to purchase something for cooking. The staff are always more than helpful and patiently explain about the material of the pots and pans and how to use for long lasting cooking adventures and longevity care for your pots and pans. The person I talked with recently was respectful and patient with my lack of cooking knowledge. She helped me to better understand where I could improve with my cooking. What a beautiful store. I was looking for a very specific item, called a Mooncake Mould to make Chinese mooncakes for the Mid-Autumn Festival. I could not find the mooncake mould in over 8 stores in Richmond and the surrounding Lower Mainland. My friends told me to buy online, but I needed the item during the festival time to make my strawberry mochi snowskin mooncakes. Ming Wo on Granville Street has them for $6 - $7 each, for 50g - 63g sizes. You can see them in the photos I have posted with this review. If you read the previous reviews about this store, you can see people complaining about the customer service. I have to admit that that when we walked into the store, there was a lady working her books at the counter. So I waited for her to finish her work on her scheduling/accounting book first, because I did not want to bother her... but it felt awkward for a little bit to stand there and feel like I was a bother. But I still give Ming Wo 4 stars, because she placed the remaining last mooncake mould for me when I asked her about it on the phone a few hours earlier, because I was coming from an event out in Tsawwassen. I used to like to shop in Mingwo because it has a wide selections of cookware that I like. However recently I was purchasing a pan and this sales lady is super unfriendly to me. I noticed she showed big smiles to customers who are native English speakers. I felt discriminated by her attitude, but I thought maybe I'm over sensitive. This happened again today when I went to Mingwo for something else she was serving other customers smiling and offering help with friendly tone, but when I ask her a question, she immediately look sour face. I will not go back to Mingwo anymore due to this customer experience. read more

Ming Wo offers, what I've found, to be the best-priced stainless steel water bottles in Vancouver. They also offer a whole range of picture-perfect cookware that (warning issued) will prompt uncontrollable urges to spend money. The store has a fantastic range of french presses (versus most stores which only have two or three models) and the cooking utensils are great gifts for any difficult-to-shop-for people in your life. On my last visit, I also discovered the little backroom of picture frames, soaps, and lamps for the first time. In the South Granville area, we have a few kitchen shops from which to choose, including the highly regarded Williams-Sonoma and Cookworks. Of these shops, I prefer Ming Wo for it's casual atmosphere, numerous small, fun items, and great prices. Sometimes I'll slip in to one of the more upscale kitchenware establishments. I'll partake of the free samples and watch a demo or two but, when it comes to making purchases, I'll always head back to Ming Wo. Often, I will find the very same items available at a price point I can justify or something that is similar enough to fit the bill. My favorite items? I love the clothespin styled chopstick sets, so colourful and whimsical and great for parties. My daughter is crazy about the Alessi items and I am continually adding to my collection of white everyday dishes and cutlery and red accessories. If you like nice things for less, this is your kitchen store. read more

Of all the Ming Wo I have been to, this is the most unfriendly store. There were at least 3 sales staff working there. No one said hello or asked if I needed help when I walked by them, I had to ask one of the ladies stocking the shelf for help. She was really impatient and did not even listen to what I was asking for and just pointed me to a rack. Another customer was having the same problem, so we both left. read more

I went in to buy an inexpensive skillet with a lid and maybe one of the cheap industrial-strength-looking steel water bottles they'd had in their window for the last few months. To my regret, they had neither (! -- they had new, more "stylish" water bottles in, boo), but they DID have microplane graters, a silicone pastry brush, and a glass lunch dish, all of which became essential as soon as I saw them. This location is small and maybe a little incomplete, but it's fun, surprising, and unpretentious, which is nice for the South Granville strip! read more

This is a quality shop to find all sorts of kitchen gadgets, glassware and cookware. They carry Riedel Sommelier wine glasses (the good stuff) and Zwilling J.A. Henckels (German) knives and other kitchen tools (quality blades!). In addition to sipping and chopping in fine style, they always seem to have interesting and colourful Asian-inspired dishes for noodle soup, cute mini-dishes for sauce or minced ginger and the like. They have what seems to be an entire wall of ramekins, the basic white (in all sizes) and other brighter colours. They always have bright, fun patterned dishes that would be sure to impress your guests at any cocktail party. I'm not sure if they're that practical, but if you have money to burn on cute kitchen stuff, this is a great place for you!! The shop is pretty narrow and so full of stuff that, although it's on street level, it would be difficult to take in a wheelchair or a baby carriage or anything like that ... it's hard to pass other people in the aisles on foot! So when it's busy, it's pretty cramped. read more

I love the stuff that Ming Wo carries, but their customer service is terrible. I have had such a bad experience here, on 3 separate occasions, with the same sales person. The woman with bleached blond hair is absolutely dreadful and needs a lesson in how to talk to customers. This woman should not be in the retail business as she clearly hates her job, and takes out her frustration on the customers who shop here. read more

It helps when you have done your homework, are really interested in cooking and not just buying cookware to make the house look colourful and full. It's a small place, but they really fit quite a bit in that store! It's amazing! I love that the girl that was helping was not crowding me while I was taking a quick look around. I bought a Le Creuset in the lovely Caribbean colour, I really love the colour although I really wish that Le Creuset made the newer ones with steel knobs instead of plastic. I left with a Le Creuset and a Bodum stainless travel press for my friend. I'll be coming back to check out more Le Creuset, knives and the Gordon Ramsay for Royal Doulton cookware when I have more time. :) read more

I am a long time customer and have purchased thousands of dollars of kitchenware at this store. However, today, when I questioned the staff about a senior discount at this store, I was told no such thing existed. I discovered Ming Wo offered a discount here: http://411seniors.bc.ca/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/Senior-Discount-List-Feb-2014-2.pdf I doubt very much that the bc seniors made it up. However, not only was I told there was no such discount, the manager of the store saw no need to bother to speak to me herself. If there's one thing I've been enjoying the last year and a bit, it's been to get my inner chef or baker on. Ming Wo Cookware on Granville has been my go to shop for all kitchen related materials, devices, and gadgets along my cooking journey... and for good reason. Ming Wo may look like a small shop from the front, but what it lacks in width, it makes up for in length. The store is surprisingly large and is packed with cooking devices, plates, knives, etc. from floor to ceiling. One thing that makes Ming Wo such a great store is not just that they have a lot of stock, but they have a such a large variety of items. If you're a beginner and are looking for entry level items that will do the job and not break the bank, you can find it at Ming Wo's. Alternatively, if you want a high end item, you can also find the more expensive top quality items. However, even though you can find expensive items at Ming Wo, the same item will be typically 5-15% more at other kitchen or department stores. With some of the same competitors being less than 3 blocks away from Ming Wo (i.e. Williams- Sonoma and Cookworks), I have no reservations to just pass them by to go to locally owned Ming Wo to save some cash. Another item that is great about Ming Wo is the knowledgeable and friendly staff. When I first started getting into cooking, I didn't know what a silpat was, let alone know that there are several varieties of microplanes all with different purposes. However, the staff at Ming Wo have always been incredibly helpful in explaining the differences in kitchen items with both pros and cons. To illustrate their product and customer service, I thought I needed a certain type of knife to make a dessert. After asking a staff member, they informed me that I didn't need the particular item I thought I needed, and instead recommended a device that would do the job more effectively and was cheaper. Perfect! Additionally, I've never run into a scenario where at least one of the staff working haven't been able to explain what an item does (and there are some weird kitchen gadgets you can buy) and/or recommend a more versatile product or product that will do the job better (ofter being cheaper that the item I originally came for). Whether you want to dabble in the culinary arts as a beginner, or you want to upgrade your cookware as your baking prowess improves, Ming Wo is your stop to save money and get advice/recommendations if you desire! read more

Incredibly rude & uneducated staff which surprised me because staff at other locations were perfectly fine. I went to the South Granville location for the first & only time yesterday to buy a replacement Bodum carafe. Instead of offering to help, the "sales" girl just followed & eyeballed me as if I was a shoplifter. The employee became bug-eyed when I started to compare the Bodum I had brought from home against the replacement carafe in order to ensure the correct size (which shows her lack of interest in knowing anything about the product that the store sells; anyone with any level of knowledge of the industry would be aware that Bodum glass is notoriously fragile). I was appalled. In the future I'll go to a shop where customer service is valued. read more

Great store on Granville and the price point is great. Compared to William Sonoma or West Elm down the street, this store seems like a real deal! They have lots of different things in the store from dishes, glasses, cutlery, dish clothes and napkins and anything you may need to bake with. They were having a sale on their knives when I went in and got a steal on a global chef's knife. I also didn't realize until recently that there was a downstairs to the store which carries different items for your bathroom. The customer service can be hit and miss but overall the staff at the store have been pleasant and don't hover over you to pressure you into buying something. read more
