I thought I had died and gone to heaven lol. I bought an epicurean cutting board. Add well. The pictures will show it much better than I can but from now on when I need something kitchen related, I know where I'm going. I also noticed that some of the items were as good quality, if not better than some of the major stores and the price prices were sometimes even less expensive. You can't beat that. I found out they also gave cooking classes there as well. Staff were friendly and helpful. The store was well organized and clean. There is free street parking in front.

We had drinks while we waited (delicious mango Italian soda for me and my friend; wine for others). We ate a delicious sample of mango chicken salad because that didn't require cooking, and then the next day, our fees were promptly refunded in full. So all in all, a lovely place to be when the power is on! Pro tip: if you've come with someone else, get there early so you can sit together!

If you are into kitchenware, cooking and baking, entertaining, or serviceware, or if you are in need of a hostess or housewarming gift, be forewarned. You will find what you need (or want) here, and you will probably pay top dollar for it. And you will do so gladly. They have mainstream kitchen gadgets along with very precise and specific baking and cooking tools, along with fabulous Asian ceramic bowls and dishes and chopsticks and more. Ramekins in every color? Check. Contemporary placemats? Check. Pots and cutlery and kitchen scales and kitchen gadgets that I don't even know what they do but they look cool so I feel is definitely should get them? Check, check and CHECK! They carry a lot of OXO merchandise (I always liked the ergonomic nature of this brand's products, and they last a long time), and yes, some of these items are available at HomeSense at half the price. But they also have here obscure kitchen tools you can't find elsewhere. If you are seriously into cooking or baking, I'm sure you'd find what you need here. Some items are overpriced. I purchased two Swedish dishcloths here for $5.95 each. (They come in a ton of patterns and colors here, which is fun!). But I know these are inexpensive, and on my last trip to Bellingham, I got a set of three of them for $8. So they are quite pricey at this store. And I've seen some of their more common items for sale elsewhere at half the price they were selling for here. However, there were quite a few deals to be found at this store, too. They have lots of high quality tapered candles in different colors, only 99 cents each here. And they've lots of white ceramic dishware and serving pieces at extremely reasonable prices. If you search this store, you will find bargains. I have to add that the young ladies who work here are all super friendly and helpful, too.

From a consumer's point of view, it's kinda of hard to gauge pricing; though Rob was helpful, when you're talking about tens of thousands of dollars, it's best to shop around. For instance, I saw my dream machine, a commerical milkshake mixer to make 3 at a time---guess we're talking about a drive-thru style a la United States --- for $995. One note is the warranty is VOIDED if you use it for residential use; guess asking for the GST # or restaurant name would clear that up in a jiffy lol. Besides, one would want this as a write off but I digress. Walking in from 7th Ave. (there's also the Manitoba entrance) the non-equipment goodies will be on your right: dishware, uniforms, pots/pans, etc. To me, there are other places that are bigger and more selection than here. Either way, they're geared towards restaurants/bakeries.

At least you know that's an option, though this place really isn't for the general public. If I wasn't no nosey with the owners, I'd never would've known about this place.... While the service and selection is good, the place doesn't get kudos for ambience and layout. Definitely more of a warehouse feel compared to Dunlevvy, but here, prices are good, and wheelin' and dealin' is almost encouraged. Everything you imagine to see in the kitchen of a restaurant, can be found here. Aisles are packed quite close, with handy overhead signs like you would see at a Safeway. At the front, is the real heavy machinery, ie. deep fryers, ovens, preparation tables, etc. And next time you order from Pizza Hut, don't get disgusted when s/he takes the pizza out of those thermal bags, it can be run down, ripped, etc.---they can cost $40, as per pic....
