For it's class it's pretty good, I used to go to this place regularly for many years. Their lunch special is a deal and a nice way to try it out. Don't forget to tell them if you don't want a lot of sauce or not too much corn starch, whole peppers, light on the oil, etc. Switching meat on dishes is also no problem. You can ask for "light on the sauce" and may get no sauce, it depends on the cook. I wish their sauces had a non-msg option. The two sisters that run the place really try to please, and if the consistency of the food was better, this place would be an every day deal. Sadly, it's hit and miss. Sometimes funky beef, sometimes funky pork in wonton soup, sometimes undercooked meat, sometimes overcooked, sometimes missing vegetable. Too many errors Ming's! read more

UPDATE: Sadly, it's under new management as of about 2-4 yrs ago? and the food is nothing like what it used to be :( It's bland and not very good. I need to find a new Chinese place to eat at now Been coming here for years and have never gotten sick or had any problems. The food is delicious, in my opinion the best in Santa Cruz, and the prices are CHEAP! If you come in before 3pm you get a choice of soup, choice of rice, egg roll, and an entree for only 4-6 bucks! And they serve a good amount not small portions. The staff is very nice also. read more

Good hot and sour soup. Low prices. The meat is really grizzly and rice is soupy. The waitresses are always friendly and courteous.

One reason that I'm writing this is to let you know (if you don't already know) that you can check out the inspections done by the Santa Cruz County Environmental Health Dept. @: http://sccounty01.co.santa-cruz.ca.us/eh/consumer_protection/FoodFacilityViolations.pdf. Accoring to this report, Ming's, as of the last inspection on 6-7-10, had violations of: (1) Rodent or Insect Infestation & (2) Improper Food Holding or Processing Temperatures. Not knowing this until later, my husband, my son & I went there for lunch today, and had a HORRIBLE experience. Just for info, we have been eating there for over 20 years, but after today, NEVER EVER AGAIN!!! My plate had pieces of GRAY chicken, and when I asked for another dish, the 2 waitresses argued & yelled (and I mean YELLED) at us. I have been coming here for over a decade now. They have good lunch special prices that end at 3 pm. Yes, they are not the cleanest restaurant, and not the best service... but they do give you decent portions of Chinese food for the price they charge you there. The building, that whole block is really old in Soquel Village, so that is why it looks like it does. I like there won ton soup. read more

Wife and I just had lunch to go at the new Ming's Palace. The lunch specials we saw come out looked huge and smelt delicious. The restaurant itself was impeccably clean and the staff friendly. We opted for the regular menu. What we had was hot, fresh, plentiful and yummy. We used to drive to SC but not any more. Good Chinese food closer to home right here. read more

Mings changed hands 2nd week in May 2016. It was a great place prior to new owners. HOWEVER, big test was hot and sour soup order to go. Yuck. Nowhere close to as good as prior owners. Thought about it two days and decided to give them another try. Got my standard Kung Pau Chicken. Yuck again. They raised the prices and the food just isn't up to Mings standards. Normally I enjoy Ming's, but after today I will not be returning. I have gone to this place plenty of times since I've lived here, and usually they have better manners then tonights experience. I walked in and asked for the meal I normally get, with a substitution of shrimp instead of pork, which hasn't been a problem in the past. Upon my request for this change, the girl that was serving me, whom I haven't seen there before, laughed at me for asking for the change in my order. And when I explained how I had it before that way, she brought another co worker over who continued to laugh at me. And say it would be an extra 5 dollars to have it be with shrimp. I told them that I haven't had to pay more in the past, to which their reply was to scoff at me and said I was lying and that I should go somewhere else. I told them who normally gives me that price and if she was working and they just laughed and walked away from me. Never have I been so disrespected in a restaurant like that. I would have been okay with paying more if they changed the rules to substitutions but their behavior was so ridiculous that I will no longer be returning and will gladly take my business some other place. read more

I just had the $10.95 Teriyaki lunch special it was cooked perfectly, large portions the service was excellent from very nice people. Folks if you haven't tried this resturant since they reopened your missing out on not taking advantage of this great locally owned resturant. We will be back again great local spot !!! read more

Ming's used to be a great place to pick up some Mongolian Beef but it sure has changed. About 20 years ago I used to get Mongolian Beef to go often, as it was very good at Ming's and nowhere else could I find it prepared so well. It was simply yummy! Spiced just right, and the meat was flavorful and the veggies in it where very good. I went there a few weeks ago after years of being away from it. The place still looked the same! Twenty years and I don't think they have ever had a remodel. I took my Mongolian Beef home and it wasn't very good, not at all like it used to be. It had little taste and frankly sort of tasted like the indredients had been rinsed off and whatever sauces, etc. they used just lightly poured on the veggies and the meat. I thought oh well, maybe I just went in there at a bad time, because it can happen anyplace. I decided to give it another try just a couple of days ago. It smelled okay on the way home. I got home and opened the carton and it looked like the meat had been boiled.I know what boiled meat looks like. The entire meal had no taste hardly whatsoever. I am very disapointed and do not believe I will ever go into MIng's again for carry out Mongolian Beef or anything else. read more

Like I have been reading, this palce has changed hands and is not anything close to what the original Mings was. The new owners have horrible customer service and prices more than doubled with half the portions than you use to get. My grandmother has been going to Mings for years and she was always welcomed with a smile and they new exactly what she wanted. We tired to order her usually and they acted liked it was some forigen food or something..The lady taking our order was very confused with everything. she took our order then repeated it back to us then had to come out and ask again. There was alot more that took place on our unpleasant dining experience. But please take my word, do not go here if you dont want to get frustrated and ripped off. read more

The ingredients didn't taste fresh, the veggies were overcooked and the beef was fatty. The prices were similar to other Chinese Restaurants but this food just wasn't made with pride. More like fast-food. I'm going to skip this next time and drive into Santa Cruz for a much better meal. read more

My wife, two adult sons, and I went to Ming's last Friday night, and we were amazed and delighted at the quality of the food. We started with seaweed soup; not my choice, but those who liked it really enjoyed it. But then came the real food...what a wonderful feast! The plates were piled high with hot, colorful offerings with beautiful color and awesome flavor. We shared Tofu with Vegetables, Curry Fish, Ginger Fish, and Broccoli with Mushrooms. We were especially happy to find that they don't over-salt the food like so many Chinese restaurants. Salt fans would probably add some soy sauce (we didn't). Our server was very gracious and attentive, not at all intrusive. The most expensive dish was $8.25. Where else can four people go for an abundant, tasty dinner for under $50 including tax and a generous tip? The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is that the men's room needs to be remodeled...sort of funky (can't comment on the ladies' room.) It was very quiet and private. I couldn't believe that we were one of only three occupied tables...they have plenty of comfortable seating, including lots of booths. Please go enjoy this place...they deserve to be busier, and it looks like they need more customers! read more
